Relais San Maurizio
The Relais San Maurizio is an ancient 17th century monastery which became
a Luxury SPA Resort just a few years ago. At the heart of the Moscato lands,
in Langa, is it a unique and unforgettable place. Elegant and romantic, it is an ideal
destination for enjoying moments of absolute luxury, for relaxing and indulging
the senses and the soul. The frescoed halls, 30 rooms with stunning, individual
décor, the gardens and the park with its centuries-old trees are all overwhelmingly
enchanting. From the large outdoor swimming pool, at the top of the hill, guests
can enjoy a 360 degree view over the breathtaking scenery. The hotel is home
to the Michelin-starred restaurant “Guido da Costigliole” and the exclusive
Medical & Beauty SPA “La Via del Sale”. It is a member of the Relais & Chateaux
hotel chain.
Rooms and Suites
The Relais San Maurizio has 30 rooms, including ten suites, each with its own
individual décor, style and atmosphere, and some with private gardens. Many still
retain their original frescoes, stone, wood, furniture and materials. Private and quiet,
the rooms are located in three areas on the property: the executive, superior and junior
suites are located on the first floor of the main residence, along the attractive corridor
onto which the monks’ cells once opened; the largest suites are found in the old stables
and in the ancient oil-mill by the side of the church.
Restaurant
For fifty years, the Michelin-starred “Guido da Costigliole” restaurant has been
a benchmark for haute cuisine in the Langhe territory. Located in the ancient cellars
of the San Maurizio monastery, the underground rooms and passages hold a treasure
of more than 2,500 wines that have been lovingly collected for many years by Andrea
Alciati, who runs the restaurant along with Monica Magnini and Luca Zecchin. This
young chef has taken on the legacy of Lidia Alciati in creating dishes that enhance
the flavors of tradition in a contemporary vision, using carefully selected local produce.
Medical & Beauty SPA
Over a thousand square meters are set aside for the “La Via del Sale” Medical & Beauty SPA,
where salt takes centre stage in these exclusive therapeutic and aesthetic treatments,
and in the hydrotherapy. The SPA includes the Grotta del Sale or ‘Salt Cave’; a natural ravine
with pools of high salt density San Maurizio water, a heated indoor swimming pool
with hydromassage, a hammam, a gym, a panoramic solarium terrace and eleven cabins
that are used for aesthetic treatments, massages and therapies. The SPA Suite is a private
area where couples can enjoy massages and hydromassages for two or lunch on the terrace;
a place to spend an entire day in complete privacy.
Terraces
The panoramic open spaces that surround the Relais San Maurizio are absolutely
splendid. Guests can enjoy a unique and unforgettable view over the landscape of
the Langa. All around, there are rolling hills as far as the eye can see, covered with
Moscato vineyards. Besides the magnificent belvedere of the “Guido da Costigliole”
restaurant, where guests can dine romantically under the stars during the summer
months, there are panoramic views from the outdoor pool which has a 360 degree
view over the surrounding countryside. Outside the SPA is a wide terrace overlooking
the vineyards, shielded from the wind and ideal for moments of complete rest and
relaxation.
Scenic swimming pool
A peaceful and sunny place in which to relax at the hotel, Relais’s large scenic
swimming pool is the hub of hotel life in the summer months. The view extends
for 360 degrees over the surrounding hills, while the mind relaxes and the body
is invigorated by long swims…and not just this. Over summer, the scenic
swimming pool is the ideal setting for prestigious events and cocktail evenings.
Park
The centuries-old park in which the Relais San Maurizio is immersed spreads
over the top of the hill and enjoys a special microclimate where strawberry
trees, centuries-old olives, firs, larches and majestic beeches live alongside
local plants, such as elms and oaks. All the public areas and the rooms in the
main building overlook the internal cloister, including the frescoed room which
is home to the “La Vie en Rose” bistro where breakfast and lunch are served.
A wonderful hundred-year-old strawberry tree takes centre stage in the cloister.
Bar & Bistro
With its frescoed hall overlooking the monastery’s internal cloister and its flower
garden with views over the Langhe, the “La Vie en Rose” bistro is ideal for business
lunches, family parties and peaceful moments. In summer, lunch is taken al fresco,
in a unique setting, where local specialties can be savored alongside light dishes
prepared using local ingredients.
The “Wine & Cocktail Bar Hemingway”, with Cigar Room, has one of the most
extensive wine lists of wine sold by the glass: more than 40 labels including
sparking wines, whites and reds which guests can always taste. Exquisite bottles
are lined up side by side, representing the excellent production of the Langhe area.
Events
The “Spazio Bianco” is Relais’s new multifunctional hall dedicated to events and shows.
With a contemporary feel but housed within the monastery’s ancient church, it is a
location spread over 100 meters squared fitted with the most advanced audio and video
technology, connectivity and simultaneous translation. It can accommodate up to 130
people and is also equipped for international events. A unique choice for conferences,
conventions, meetings and very prestigious public or private events that can rely upon
