Another Successful Event!
Hearty congratulations are extended to the St.
Malo and District Chamber of Commerce and
its group of volunteers for once again putting
on a very successful family hockey tournament. A great time was had by everyone. The
hockey action was great and some of the
games were real nail biters. St. Malo really
knows how to do it up right!
The kids have had a nice, restful spring break
and that means that summer and all that it
brings is well on its way. Malo Minor Baseball

At École St. Malo School we strive to instill a strong sense of pride in the students of themselves, their school, their
community and their culture. There is a strong sense of belonging and connection to the community of St. Malo. We
also work diligently to expose our students to a wide range of cultural and musical activities by regularly bringing in
“ARTISTS IN THE SCHOOL ”.
Fubuki Daiko
Students learn about the instruments
while experiencing the high energy
and precision of taiko drumming.
On following days, two artists teach
students the cultural etiquette of
taiko, basic drumming skills, and a
simple song. The sessions draw on
elements of physical education,
music, theatre, and dance,
all within a Japanese cultural setting.
Freeze Frame
“Colour & Souls” is a workshop in painting with gouache,
and uses different styles and techniques in a multiple-image painting.
This hands-on program incorporates sketching exercises and discussion
about composition, light & balance, and the properties of gouache.
Kate Ferris
“Get Animated! Telling Stories through Sound and Movement” introduces students to the world of storytelling through
soundscaping: illustrating stories with sound. Kate brings her three trunks full of noisemakers and unusual percussion instruments and uses them to demonstrate the power of sound effects. Students will explore sound, using it to accompany written
stories, create soundscape “postcards,” or illustrate tableaux.

“One person‟s junk is another‟s ... Music!”
This program explores the world of „found sounds.‟
How many different sounds can you make on a garbage can?
We will make the transition from noise to music by taking a pile of junk:
garbage cans, buckets, and hoses, and transforming it into an orchestra.
Stomp for kids!
