Regime change for Mashtronauts
For the first time in virtually forever,
the Bay Area Mashtronauts enter a
new year with a fresh slate on the
officer front.
Yes, the Decembeer meeting will
be the chance to wave goodbye to
Mission Commander Guthrie, Pilot
Rambo, Payload Specialist The
Apprentice, Capcom pica and data
Input Specialist Hughbrew.
Running the show in 2008 will be
Hughbrew as Mission Commander,
Pilot Jimmy Skidz, Payload
Specialist SWMBO, Capcom
Manshow and Data Input Specialist
Bo Duke.
In one holdover, The Force will
continue as the Club Conscience.
The Mashtronauts also approved
The debate and casting of ballots at the Novembeer meeting was quite spirited.
an amendment to the bylaws that put the onus for club
history and public relations onto the shoulders of the
Data Input Specialist.
What’s on tap for the
Bay Area Mashtronauts
in month of December
The Bay Area Mashtronauts’ next
meeting will be held at 7 p.m.,
Decembeer 11 at the ho-ho-ho-ing
Outpost Tavern.
The Styles of the Month are
Holiday, Specialties, Novelties,
Liquors, Ciders and Meads. Bring
‘em on!.
But first, the annual Homebrewers’
Christmas Party will be held at the
St. Arnold Brewery on Sunday,
December 9 from noon until 4 p.m.
It’s a great time, so get out and
quaff beer gratis.

The Mission
The Bay Area Mashtronauts is a club
dedicated to the art and enjoyment of
fermented beverages. The club is
associated with the Homebrewers of
America and supports the American
Homebrewer's Association's goal of
brewing better quality beers and enjoying
them responsibly.
Annual dues are $20 for individuals and
$30 for families and are payable in January.
The club meets on the second Tuesday of
each month at The Outpost Tavern in
Webster, Texas.
The officers of the Mashtronauts and the
Prost staff assume no responsibility for the
accuracy of any story in this newsletter.
Because to do so would imply that any one
of us is a responsible individual, which is
quite likely the most laughable idea in the
world. Besides, why should one of us get
caught holding the bag?

Equal time for the lady
Recently, SWMBO expressed disgust at the
recent issues of The Saturday Evening Prost.
It seems she took offense to our publication
of photos depicting scantily clad women.
In deference to Her Royal Elevation to
Payload Specialist – and the fact that she
can reimburse us for any and all expenses,
plus a little extra for our trouble is completely
irrelevant – we have decided to publish a
little beefcake for SWMBO:
What? What’s the problem?
Beefcake. Meat loaf. What’s the
difference?

Food for the Holidays
From the Association of Brewers
The following are some guidelines to beer and
food pairings as well as proper glassware to
use for the suggested beers:
Appetizers:
• Monterey Jack cheese goes well with
Blonde Ale. Serve Blonde Ale in a
Classic Pilsner Flute.
• Aged provolone and a Weizenbock is
a good complementary cheese and
beer combination. We suggest serving
a Weizenbock in a Stemmed Pokal.
• White cheddar and Amber Lager
makes a good match. Amber Lager is
best served in a “Shaker" Pint.
• Dry Stout served in a Irish Imperial
Pint goes excellently with raw oysters.
Main course:
• For smoked ham we suggest
Weizenbock. Again, Weizenbock
should be served in a Stemmed Pokal.
• Duck since it has a rich flavor, should
be paired with a Belgian-inspired
Dubbel served in an Abbey Goblet.
• Salmon flavors go well with a Dunkel
Lager. The Dunkel Lager is best
served in a Handled Glass Stein.
• Leg of lamb pairs well with Pale Ales.
Pale Ales should be served in a
"Nonick" Imperial Pint.
• Beef tenderloin is best paired with an
IPA or Imperial IPA to contrast the rich
taste of the tenderloin. Serve your IPA
in a "Nonick" Pint. Serve Imperial IPA
in an American "Shaker" Pint.
Dessert:
• Cookies are popular holiday party
desserts. These very sweet items go
well with Double/Imperial IPA's who's
hoppy flavors are a good complement
to the sweet dessert. Serve your
Double/Imperial IPA in a "Shaker" Pint.
• If you're serving chocolate at your
holiday party, a good match for the
chocolate is a Dopplebock. Serve your
Dopplebock in a Small Tulip or Snifter.
