While he never had financial success in his lifetime, Poe has become one
of America’s most enduring writers. His works are as compelling today
as they were more than a century ago.
He captured the imagination and interest of readers around the world.
He first published a poem, “The Raven” in 1845. His work focused on
common themes of the time – death and loss.
Join us to learn what made Poe tick and more about his life and poems.

Back to School Storytimes at the Poplar Creek Public Library started the
week of August 25 and will run through October 10. Registration started July
28. Be sure to look for Miss Wendy’s Music-n-Motion for toddlers on September
20! Hurry and call, our storytimes fill up quickly!
Mary Poppins Sing-Along! The Children’s Department of the Poplar Creek
Public Library will host a screening of Mary Poppins in the large meeting room
on Saturday, September 13, and we invite you and your family to sing along!
Seasonal Craft Club Join Ms. Vynette for a leafy craft in September,
something spooktacular in October and a craft you can gobble in November.
Sign up for all three! Ages 7+. September 17, October 15, and November 12 at
3:30 PM.

Book Time with Bogart Our library has gone to the dogs! Every Thursday a
certified therapy dog will be available to listen to kids practice reading aloud.
This program is for children who already know how to read and need more
practice. Space is limited.

Poplar Pride!
The Village of Streamwood held its Annual
Summer Celebration July 25, 26 and 27. This
year’s theme was “roar” to highlight all the
wonderful accomplishments of the Village
and community members. This was the 20th
anniversary for this event which features food,
music, a carnival, and an afternoon parade. The
various parade entries are judged and awards
given. For the third year in a row, the Poplar
Creek Public Library has the honor of being
awarded the Best Theme Float designation.
Poplar Creek Library is proud to have won
the “Best Theme” in the 2014 Summer
Celecbration Parade.
