InterpowerTM Panel-Mount Sockets
IP (International Protection) Code
“Splash resistant” sockets are suited for environments with
airborne dirt and splashing liquid. These sockets can be
mounted on machinery used in areas where dust or
by-products of manufacturing may come in contact with a
machine mounted socket without fear of harming or
obstructing the socket. The spring-loaded flip-lid protects
the electrical outlet.
An advantage of InterpowerTM “splash resistant” panel-mount
sockets is the uniform size of the panel cutout used for
mounting. Panel Components Corp. offers 5 sockets usable in
dozens of countries. The ability to change the socket to meet
the country’s specifications without re-tooling the outer box of
the equipment allows the same box to be used for
European and North American applications.
IEC 60529 outlines an international classification system for
sealing effectiveness of enclosures of electrical equipment
against the intrusion into the equipment of foreign bodies
(i.e. tools, dust, fingers) and moisture. This classification
system utilizes the letter “IP” followed by two digits. The
sockets featured in this brochure are rated IP X4 or IP 44.
The “X” indicates no requirement so no rating. The following
example is of IP 44:
The first digit of the IP code indicates the
degree that persons are protected against
contact with moving parts (other than smooth
rotating shafts, etc.) and the degree that
equipment is protected against solid foreign
bodies intruding into an enclosure.

Protected against solid objects greater than 1.0mm
The second digit indicates the degree of
protection of the equipment inside the
enclosure against the harmful entry of
various forms of moisture (e.g. splashing water
in any direction).
This illustration shows one use for InterpowerTM “splash
resistant” sockets. In this example, the machine is located in
a dusty environment with occasional water splashing. While
closed, the socket is protected to IP 44.
