Attendance Check Program
Our Safe Schools Arrival Program ensures that all students
arrive at school as expected. The safety of our students is of
utmost importance. If your child will be absent or late for
school, for ANY reason, please call our attendance check line

Volunteers Needed!
The Breakfast Program requires volunteers
for Mondays and Tuesdays between 8:00
AM and 9:30 AM. Duties would include
set-up, food preparation and clean-up in
the Alpine Public School gymnasium.
If you are interested in volunteering your
time for a great cause, please contact Mrs. Crewe at 519743-4338.
Be on time!
It is very important for students to arrive on time.
If your child arrives at school after 9:10 AM, he/she must
report to the office to receive a Late Slip.

School Closing Policy:
If buses are cancelled in the morning, and schools are
open, parents/guardians may drive their child(ren) to
school. It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians
to pick up their child(ren) at 3:30 PM.

Thank you first and foremost for your support of the LaMontagne fundraising campaign last month – the sales totaled $5922
of which Alpine will receive approximately
50%. All proceeds will go towards subsidizing enrichment activities for students
such as field trips, performances and technology resources. Thanks to Mrs. Crewe
and Mrs. MacLeod, for organizing this successful fundraiser. Congratulations to Lily
O. for winning the top fundraiser prize by
collecting $509! Kaden M. came a close
second with $409. Mrs. Halvorsen’s K3
class raised the most money with $968
and will receive a pizza party for their
efforts. Thank you staff and students for
your amazing support.

Progress Reports were sent home on November 3rd. This year, teachers will offer
all parents an opportunity to discuss their
child’s progress on the evening of November 6th and during the morning of November 7th. Teachers may also be conducting
interviews over the telephone, if preferred. If you did not receive your interview memo, please contact the school.
Once you receive your interview confirmation, with the date and time, please mark
this important date on your calendar and
plan to attend the parent-teacher interview for your child.
As a complement to our
character
development
program, A.S.P.I.R.E.S., we
are excited to introduce,
Tools For Life, a relationship-building program at
Alpine. Over the next few months we will
be discussing how to speak to each other
in respectful ways; how to deal with our
feelings; we will learn what tools can be
used to resolve issues and how to work
cooperatively with others Throughout the
year, we will be encouraging your child to
share his/her thoughts, feelings, and strategies with you at home. Please look for
the various handouts and activities to be
sent home, and use them as a basis for
discussion and practice as a family.
I would also like to encourage and invite
you to attend our Parent Council
meetings. Meetings are usually held once
a month and next meeting is scheduled for
November 26th at 6:30 PM in the school
library. We discuss issues concerning children’s learning and well-being at school in
a relaxed environment. Rebecca Harris
and Jessica Beaucage are the School Council co-chairs, Jen Smerek is the Secretary
and Tanya Allen is the Treasurer.
Alpine A.S.P.I.R.E.S!
We are very happy to continue the character
development
program,
Alpine
A.S.P.I.R.E.S! Each letter stands for a character attribute; AWESOME ATTITUDE,
SELF-REGULATION, PERSEVERANCE, INTEGRITY, RESPECT, EMPATHY, AND SETTING GOALS. Developed by our own staff,
the program will provide common language and clarify expectations for all students, parents and staff.

Farewell
Remembering those who served
our country means honouring all
veterans. Please join us on November 11th, Remembrance Day,
to honour veterans and our Forces
members serving today in Afghanistan and elsewhere around the world. The ceremony will start
at 10:30 AM in the gymnasium. Don’t forget to
wear your poppy for Remembrance Day!
Alpine Holiday Concert
You'll join a group of chimney sweeps as they dance across
the rooftops of the city and discover all the different ways
that families celebrate the winter holidays. From the candles
of Hanukkah to bright piñatas, from a baby born in a stable
to the uplifting message of Kwanzaa... and don't forget that
big red fella in the chimney!

Remembrance Day Ceremony
As most of you know, Mrs. Abshoff-Millar went on maternity leave this past September. On October 10th, the AbshoffMillar family welcomed baby Owen into the world. Congratulations to Mrs. Abshoff-Millar and her family.
It is with mixed emotions that we say good-bye to
Ms. Gottvald from class 2-3A. Ms. Gottvald has accepted a
contract with Brigadoon Public School. Staff and students
send her best wishes and good luck. We will miss you!
Welcome
World War by Kaustubh U., Grade 6
If I could change one thing in the world, it would be world
war. I would like people to stop dying in this world. It
would be amazing if people thought there should be peace
and prosperity in this world. Kids shouldn’t even go to war
in different countries. They shouldn’t be killed so early in
their life. They should live their lives happily. War should
stop instantly. People are getting less families. Families are
being broken. As a result, I would end world wars as soon
as possible.

Come on out and watch the movie, How To Train
Your Dragon 2, enjoy some popcorn, pizza and
baked goods with your family and friends. Wear
your comfy pyjamas and bring your favorite
stuffed animal.
Cost: $2 Per Person - Includes popcorn and 1 slice
of pizza each. (Extra slices can be purchased for $1)

Remembrance Day by Mitchell E., Grade 1
Remembrance Day is important because a lot of young men
fought in the war. We wear a poppy. The war was a sad
time.
Literacy Week is November 19 to 21
Please give a warm welcome to our new 2-3A teacher, Mrs.
Mehta. As many of you know, Mrs. Mehta has spent much
of her time at Alpine Public School as an occasional teacher
over the years. Congratulations, Mrs. Mehta, and welcome!

It is cold and flu season! Please take care and monitor your child(ren) very carefully. If your child shows symptoms of fever,
chills, nausea, and/or headache, it is advised to keep him/her home.
Boogie for Literacy Dance-A-Thon
and Storybook Character Spirit Day ● Friday, November 21

Grades 4/5/6 - 12:30 pm to 1:20 pm
If your child has vomited, please keep him/her home a minimum of 24 hours after the last symptom. Germs and viruses transmit very easily within the school environment. A person infected with an influenza or cold virus is contagious 24 hours after the
virus enters the body. Adults remain infectious (can spread the virus to others) for about 6 days and children remain infectious
for up to 10 days.
