Klein On Board provides highlights from the Trustees meeting held each month.
December 2015
Recognitions
 Special recognition was given to native Texans.
 The Klein Collins High School Choir, directed by Ms. Kasey Wilson,
performed seasonal music.
 Mr. Curt Drouillard, associate superintendent for human resource
services, introduced Ms. Trena Grice, promoted to assistant principal
at Nitsch Elementary School;
Zwink Elementary was recognized as a National School of
Character
Ms. Carissa Talk, promoted to assistant principal at Blackshear
Elementary School; and Ms. Dawndy Zinnert, employed as assistant
principal at Nitsch Elementary School.
 Dr. Susan Borg, associate superintendent for instruction and student
services, recognized Zwink Elementary School which was named a
State School of Character and a
National School of Character. Past principal, Ms. Jenny McGown, and
current principal, Ms. Katie Turner, along with other Zwink staff were
introduced.
 Dr. Susan Borg, associate superintendent for instruction and student
services, recognized Ulrich Intermediate School which was named a
Model Professional Learning Community at Work campus.

Professional Learning Community at Work campus.
 Dr. Susan Borg, associate superintendent for instruction and student
services, recognized Ms. Karen Watson who was named the Texas
Foreign Language Association’s French Teacher of the Year.
 Dr. Susan Borg, associate superintendent for instruction and student
services, recognized Ms. Karri Clark who was named the Supervision/
Administration Division Outstanding Art Educator of the Year.
 Ms. Cindy Doyle, director of community development and education
foundation, introduced directors of the Klein Education Foundation
who presented the district with a check in the amount of $73,505.
Winners of the fall 2015 education grants were
announced.
 Ms. Judy Rimato, associate superintendent for communications and
Donors are recognized as the Stand Up for Texas Public Schools
planning, presented the Texas Association of School Boards Stand
award recipients for providing eye exams and glasses.
Up for Texas Public School Award to Dr. David M. Way with Spring
Klein Vision Center, Ms. Maria Mafla, Executive Director for Bridging
for Tomorrow/Faithbridge Methodist Church, Ms. Marina Petino with
the Essilor Foundation, Dr. DeLa Pena with Premier Vision, and Dr. Grant
Gibson with Klein Eye Care for their partnership in providing eye exams to
145 Klein students and for providing 120 students with glasses.
Reports to the Board
 Ms. Amanda Salinas, data, research and evaluation officer, presented a preview of the Strategic Plan Scorecard
which is produced each fall for the preceding school year. The data represented summarized trend data for each
category collected from primary data sources that included the Klein Interactive Data Source website, community
engagement, AEIS/TAPR reports, TEA accountability reports, PowerSchool SMS, the Klein Quality Schools Survey,
Mizuni Data Warehouse and Texas Financial Ratings. The data tables included local accountability ratings, KQSS
Survey results, financial ratings, state accountability ratings, and student performance tables.
 Mr. Dean Borg, executive director of human resource services, presented the annual No Child Left Behind Highly
Qualified Status report. To receive highly qualified status, a teacher must have a Texas teacher certification, must
not have had certification requirements waived on an emergency, temporary or provisional basis, holds a minimum
bachelor’s degree, and has demonstrated subject matter competency in each academic subject in which the teacher
teaches. The district has attained 99.82% compliance as of June 2015.
 Ms. Judy Rimato, associate superintendent for communications and planning, presented the proposed zoning drafts
for Mahaffey Elementary School and High School #5. The elementary zoning committee met four times on two
dates, October 19 and November 9. The preferred draft is Option 7 which will affect Schultz, Bernshausen, Frank,
Hassler, Kuehnle, Mueller, and Metzler. The high school zoning committee met four times on two dates, October 27
and November 10. The proposed draft is Option 2, which delays until 2025 the capacity growth for Klein Oak to more
than 120%, allowing more flexibility on the opening of high school #6.
 Mr. Chad Corbitt, energy manager, provided the annual energy report for the fiscal year ended 2014-15. The electric
usage has been reduced by 40% and natural gas usage has been reduced by 53% since 2006-07. Water does not
follow the same trends as electric and natural gas. The utility cost savings since 2007 has amounted to more than
$28,000,000.
 Mr. Steven E. Smith, board president, announced that all trustees had met or exceeded the annual requirement for
continuing education credits.

Construction, Inc.
Budget Amendments; online auction; and petition for tax refund in excess of $500 for First American Title Co.
Nitsch Elementary Targeted School Improvement Plan
Bids as follows: Interlocal Agreement to participate in Bank of America’s purchasing card program,
instructional musical instruments and equipment, MGM Benefits Group online enrollment, laptop and tablet
battery replacement, awards, trophies, specialty clothing and items, walking path at Kuehnle Elementary
Charter School Statement of Impact for Community Preparatory Academy
