My Fair Lady

My Fair Lady
Their Dresses vary from class to
situation. We are going to stick with
the Middle Class.
• All women wore dresses and corsets. Middle and
upper class wore corsets under their clothes so
please don’t wear them.
• We are talking about wearing skirts and not
dresses. This will allow them to mix and match
for the other songs. If they wish to wear a dress
they will need an extra change of clothes for
each song.
My Fair Lady
• The dresses were all floor length.
• They were more of a straight skirt
• If they had a print it was usually small
flowers.
My Fair Lady
• Their Hair was always up.
• And often they wore a hat.
My Fair Lady
• The shoes often had
buttons or laces.
My Fair Lady
Let’s make this work for us.

Add ribbon and flowers to any famine hat you have.
Straw is easiest.
For the hair, a simple bun or French twist should be a
nice compromise or you can use the instructions to the
left.
Skirts need to be floor length. Skirts were not knit but
if that is all you have, a Maxi skirt will work. (Maxi skirt
will not be easily interchangeable with the other song.)

Shirt needs to be loose fitting. A men's dress shirt,
especially white, would work great for this.
• Tuck the collar under to make it look less like a
man’s dress shirt.
A blouse or a shawl made of
cotton not yarn will soften the
shirt.
For the shoes if you have lace up
boots great. Also the shoes that
are worn with the blue
Rhapsody Dresses would work.
Newsies

Newsies
• These kids were the first
paper boys.
• They were dirty and over
worked
• They wore loose collard shirt. They were tucked in
with top button unbuttoned.
• A vest or suspenders helped as the sold the papers
on the street. Often when times were cold they also
wore coats, or sweaters.
• Slacks often had holes in the knees. They also worn
nickers.
• They wore long socks with worn out dress shoes or
boots.
• Most all wore hats to protect
from the sun. Often the hat
was floppy, slouch hat.
Newsies
Girls will be wearing the same thing as the boys
Since the girls will be changing from skirt to pants, please have
them wear pants under long skirt or wear leggings and tank top
to make changing between songs quicker and more appropriate.
• Loose and collard shirt. Make sure the collar is out

• For pants just slacks of some sort. No jeans. We

• Hats are floppy, slouch hat. Also
called a golf cap.

This is the era where you can choose to
wear pants or a skirt.

If you are planning on pants just pull pants back outside of
your socks.
•
For your top you can use your button up
shirt and dress it up with a scarf around
your neck.
Shoes can be small canvas tennis shoes,
dress shoes or just your shoes worn with all
the other numbers.
• This era wore big hair.
• So you can use the My
Fair Lady hair do. (We got lucky)
• Just take the Newsie’s hat off and make
sure your hair is not too messed up. Or
bring it down and throw in a ribbon.

Little Shop of Horrors
This the era where you can choose
to wear pants or a skirt.
•

If you are planning on wearing a skirt you can reuse the one from
My Fair Lady or have a different one.
In this movie the skirts are shorter but not mini. They were
definitely longer than even just school approved length. So no
excuses for high skirts.
If you like the poofy look you can
wear your My Fair Lady skirt. (As
long as it is not knit) Take the skirt
and bunch it up under. Take a
large elastic band and secure it
around your lower hips.
• For your top you can use your
button up shirt and dress it
up with a scarf around your
neck.
For Hair and
shoes look
at the pants section
Sum it all up!
To make it easy be sure to have these things and
you will be ready.

Dress shoes or loafers
If you were planning on doing different skirts for the different songs be sure to bring both.
Since the girls will be changing from skirt to pants, please have them wear
pants under long skirt or wear leggings and tank top to make changing
between songs quicker and more appropriate.
