A Message from Cheryl Corlew
Hello!
I am so happy that your child has chosen to study in Lancaster, California. Lancaster is
centrally located where within 90 minutes you can travel to the coast, Los Angeles or the
mountains.

My name is Cheryl Corlew and I will be your child’s homestay coordinator. I have lived in
Lancaster for most of my life. I have been married to my husband for the past 30 years.
We have two sons, who both graduated from the same school that your child will be
attending. Both my boys married their high school sweethearts. I am blessed to have one
grandson, who is amazing! Being a grandparent is the best!
I also work at Desert Christian Schools as the International Student Coordinator. I have
worked at Desert Christian Schools going on 20 years. Working at the school, I have the
opportunity to communicate with your child and their teachers on a daily basis.
Lancaster is located in the Mojave Desert in Southern California. The weather tends to be
a little hot in the summer, but the nights usually cool off with a nice breeze. The winters
can be chilly!

destination, offering an array of outdoor experiences with the backdrop of four seasons,
local shopping, restaurants and entertainment.
The Antelope Valley has great events happening year round including the California
Poppy Festival, LA County Air Show, Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix and the Antelope
Valley Fair.
I am looking forward to meeting your child, and to help him/her adjust to our
American culture.
