CORPORATE
RESPONSIBILITY
– OUR APPROACH
Corporate Responsibility (CR) is
one of the important
responsibilities for a successful
international company. At CSC, we
take our CR responsibilities
seriously at every level. We have
developed a comprehensive
approach to ensure we operate as a
responsible business, whilst
enhancing our reputation as an
open, honest and flexible
organization
OUR CR FUNCTIONING
Innovative. Democratic.
Inclusive.
We manage our CR activities through a
committee called Binergy. Binergy is a
thirty-five member team of CSC
employees (one member per five
hundred employees), who are
democratically elected each year in a
formal electoral process. Employees
interested in being part of Binergy,
create a manifesto, present their vision
on CR to the CSC employees in India
and are elected to lead the CR efforts.
Binergy leads and manages the CR
efforts. Other CSC employees act as
volunteers and based on their interest,
work on an ongoing basis on various CR
projects that are led by Binergy. The
overall Binergy team is headed by a
country mentor with each location
having a committee advisor.
OUR CR IDEOLOGY
Beyond Charity.
Binergy provides our employees across our seven locations and across
the hierarchy - a platform to give back
to society. Almost 60% of CSC’s
employee base in India is under thirty
years of age. With this energetic team
of employees, our CR ideology is not
merely to give back to society by
means of charity, but by means of
giving our time and effort in making a
better society. We all go the extra mile
for the cause of CR.
While this is the basis of our support for
social causes, we realize that funds are
extremely important to carry forward
such activities. CSC has over 16,000
employees in India. CSC pledges a
certain monetary value per employee
per month every year which we use to
carry out our CR activities. CSC
additionally provides funds for any
important or special initiatives that may
require monetary support.
The starting point for our social
responsibility at CSC is personal
responsibility. The knowledge that
nothing less than the highest standards
of professionalism, ethics and fair
business conduct are acceptable at any
time is at the core of true corporate
responsibility. For CSC employees, this
is a given. This is what gives our
company strength, both at an individual
and team level. And we believe that this
is the strength behind our CR
commitments.
CSC CONTRIBUTION
Apart from time, effort and charity, CSC
contributes towards the cause of CR by
providing our people the benefit of a
six-month sabbatical for social service.
An employee on social service
sabbatical receives 50% of his/her gross
salary during the period and all other
benefits continue as applicable. This
policy has been utilized by many
employees over the years when they
have taken a sabbatical to work with an
NGO or have gone to help rehabilitate
victims in disaster struck areas.
All Binergy members are given exclusive
eight hours per month out of their work
time to manage and lead the CR efforts.
Volunteers are encouraged to
contribute to the CR programs.
OUR CR GOALS
We focus our efforts towards the
following CR goals:
• Community Development
• Education
• Healthcare
• Environment
In the following pages, we will provide
you with a snapshot of our
commitments and activities and how
they are increasingly becoming core to
our identity.

THE BACKWARD
VILLAGES
One of CSC's most successful projects
has been the adoption of backward
villages (Sagarpaisa, Nayagaon, Lalpura
on the outskirts of Indore, Madhya
Pradesh and Chenchupally near
Hyderabad).
This ongoing program has helped
improve the quality of life in these
villages by providing financial aid, and
more importantly, volunteers to help
develop the villages. Some initiatives
include:
§
constructing and maintaining
primary schools in these villages,
training an educated physically
challenged member of the village to
teach, compensating the teacher,
providing for books, stationery and
uniforms for the students,
organizing summer camps for extra
curricular activities and regularly
visiting the village school to mentor
the children, tracking school
education activities, and even
tracking career of the children
passing out of the schools
§
getting the male members of the
village counseled to overcome their
drinking habit
§
enabling active participation of the
womenfolk in various activities of
the village, training them on
vocational skills like tailoring and
knitting to help them become
independent
§
helping in providing basic health
care facilities: arranging for mobile
medical vans and a doctor to
provide free medical aid to the
villages
§
ensuring the villages get safe
drinking water and proper sanitation
facilities
THE ORPHANAGES
CSC is associated with many
orphanages. Our people donate funds,
essential daily need items, medicines,
toys, clothes and sweets to the children.
Employees visit the orphanages
regularly.
CSC also runs a Corporate Mentorship
Program for the orphaned children. As
part of the program, children visit CSC
facilities (unrestricted areas) and
interact with CSC employees who have
volunteered to be a part of the
program.
These CSC volunteers mentor the
children, help them in their studies and
act as their guides in building their
careers. Going on picnics is also a
regular activity the children and CSC
volunteers do together.
THE DIFFERENTLY
ABLED
CSC is running various programs to
help the differently abled. Some recent
initiatives include:
§
Donation of wheelchairs, crutches
and calipers to the Free Artificial
Limb Centre at the Hindu Mission
Hospital
§
Scholarships and Universal Braille
Kits to the visually challenged
§
Donation of computers to various
schools and equipment for extra
curricular activities, such as an
orchestra for one of the schools we
work with
§
Assistance in providing vocational
training, employment opportunities
and counseling facilities
In addition, giving financial aid to
various institutions, supporting a sports
meet annually and organizing sales
stalls of handicraft products at CSC
locations are regular features.
CSC is an equal opportunity employer
and provides employment
opportunities to the differently abled.

regularly.
BLOOD DONATION

CSC regularly organizes blood donation
camps, eye camps and free health

ENVIRONMENT
Small but significant initiatives are
important for the environment; like the
‘Save Food’ campaign run in CSC to

canteen and the ‘Save Energy’ drives
run in CSC by switching off electricity.
Other than this, conducting
environmental awareness camps in
association with NGOs and conducting
education drives by CSC employees on
World Environment Day are other ways
by which CSC shows that it cares for
the environment.
CSC has a Global Asset Surplus
Disposition policy which ensures that
assets are disposed with the best
possible outcome to CSC and its
