Creative Minds in Dialogue: the Relationship between C. G. Jung and Erich Neumann
A Symposium at Pacifica Graduate Institute

The recent publication of the correspondence between C.G. Jung and Erich Neumann has brought
renewed interest in both the creative relationship between Jung and Neumann, and Neumann’s
contributions to Analytical Psychology. Months before his own death, Jung mourns Neumann as his
“friend and companion on the way,” elsewhere saying that he only had two friends, Victor White and
Erich Neumann.
The symposium will celebrate the unique contributions of Jung and Neumann, with original
presentations. Murray Stein and Riccardo Bernardini from Eranos will be among the several prominent
presenters, on topics ranging from creativity, art, Jung/Neumann and their impact on culture and the postmodern world, to anima and the great mother, and God, good and evil. The presenters will also lead
discussions, with the participation of the attendees.

Results from Our Recent Survey of IRSJA Meeting Preferences

During our spring meeting in Boulder, analysts and candidates completed a survey on their priorities of for planning future meetings.
The survey was also emailed to analysts who did not attend the meeting. 67 analysts and 23 candidates completed the survey. Here
is a summary of the response. Thanks to everyone who completed the survey—your response and individual comments have been
carefully noted and will factor into decisions going forward.
Question #1: What factors influence your decision to attend an IRSJA meeting? (Asked of analysts only). These categories
ranked as “very influential” (from a total of 67 respondents)
 Community/seeing friends-- 50 responses
 Committee work—33 responses
 Training-related work (examining, teaching etc)—31 responses
 Geographic location of the meeting—30 responses
 Program/Presentations –25 responses
 Vote on issues I care about—20 responses
 Hotel Cost—13 responses
The following categories each received fewer than 10 responses:
Cost of transportation; Total cost, including time off work; Personal limitations such as health; Ease of transportation; Hotel
amenities, Providing supervision or analysis to candidates.

Psychopathy Within offers forensic, Jungian
and personal perspective

history and a general contemporary pertinence. Jung’s

dissociation. More recently, conceptualizations of an
unrepressed unconscious are making an important
contribution to this ongoing debate and have again
brought Jungian perspectives on the ‘not yet conscious’
to the fore.
