RESPONSES TO QUESTIONS RECEIVED BY
5:00 PM FRIDAY, AUGUST 28, 2015
Q1.
Is it anticipated, based on previous remediation/assessment, that materials such as
concrete pilings/foundations might be encountered in the excavations?
A1.
Because no as-built drawings were available for the properties, it is possible that concrete
piling/foundations may be encountered in the excavations. During excavation of the
northern portion of the MMM/APAC pit, concrete pilings/foundations were encountered.
Q2.
What overlap is expected with the ongoing project at the Texas Refinery site?
A2.
The Texas Refinery RAP Implementation project is ongoing and the McKinley/Airco &
MMM/APAC RAP Implementation project is anticipated to be awarded at the October TRVA
Board meeting.
Q3.
Will compaction testing be required for the general grading in Area 4? (understanding the
deep excavation will require testing) Who will be responsible for the testing?
A3.
See revisions to Specification 02222, BACKFILL AND COMPACTION noted on previous page
for clarification of compaction requirements. As noted in Paragraph 1.01 A., Contractor is
responsible for compaction testing.

ADD 1 - 2

Q4.
How should the additional manhole that was observed on the site be handled?
A4.
The manhole observed at the approximate southwest corner of the McKinley/Airco
property is located within the Bypass Channel footprint and is not required to be removed
by this contract. Because the sanitary sewer line will be abandoned by the City, the
manhole does not need to be protected during the execution of the work.
