The area is inhabited by a population of about 500.000 inhabi tants in the two countries. About 65% of this population belongs to Shkodra and Podgorica, while the other part to smaller towns like Koplik, Bajza in Albania, and municipalities of Cetinje and Bar in Montenegro, as well as villages around the lake. Shkoder-Skadar Lake is an important area in a larger regional aspect, too. It is an important reserve of biodiversity and a migratory road for many animal species of the region. The significance as a tourist destination is still minimal despite the richness of the region’s historical, cultural and natural heritage. This multidisciplinary heritage encompasses many significant assets which consolidate its image as a tourist destination of diversified values. The Shkodër–Skadar Lake Ethno-Gastronomic Route The Shkodër/Skadar Lake Ethno-Gastronomic Route has brought together all the charms of its coastline to intrigue the curiosity of visitors and introduce them to the life and the natural beauty of this area. The Route invites tourists to experience tradition, nature, crafts and hospitality of both Albanians and Montenegrins, uniting their differences and similarities into an exceptional offer. The tourists will be welcomed by these kind hosts, whose characteristic hospitality is well known in the region. They will proudly take you on a tour through their farms and vineyards, where you can taste local traditional products, such as wine, honey, cheese, olive oil, and see custom-made handicrafts designed with local traditional patterns. U oblasti Skadarskog jezera živi oko 500.000 stanovnika obje države - Crne Gore i Albanije. Najveći dio populacije, oko 65%, živi u Skadru i Podgorici. Ostalo su žitelji malih gradova Koplik i Bajza u Albaniji i opština Cetinje i Bar u Crnoj Gori, kao i živopisnih sela oko jezera. Oblast Skadarskog jezera je rezervat mnogih biljnih i životinjskih vrsta, kao i stanište raznih ptica - selica i riba koje migriraju. Iako ova oblast nije dovoljno poznata kao turistička destinacija, u bogatstvu njenog biodiverziteta i neospornom kulturno-istorijskom nasljeđu se nalazi ključ njenog prepoznavanja od strane svih turista koji tragaju za posebnim sadržajima.
