Gone are the days when your mouth is filled with unsightly amalgam fillings.

odern day tooth

categories: those made from
a composite resin and those
made from porcelain.
Composite fillings are placed
directly into the tooth cavity
and are then shaped by the
dentist. Porcelain inlays/onlays
are porcelain fillings that are
usually made and shaped in a
laboratory and are bonded to
the tooth by the dentist. Both
are free of mercury and come
in an array of tooth colours that
can be accurately matched to
each individual tooth.

Crowns and Bridges offer a restorative solution to natural teeth that have
been damaged, decayed or lost.
A
crown is a cap that is
made to fit over an existing tooth
damaged by decay or fracture.
The aim of a crown is to restore
the tooth back to its original form
and function. By helping to hold
together and support the
remaining tooth structure, the
placement of a crown minimizes
the risk of further tooth fracture.
A bridge is used as a permanent
replacement for one or more
missing teeth. Dental bridges
involve placing a crown on
either side of the missing tooth
so that an artificial tooth can be
suspended between the crowns,
thus ‘bridging the gap’.

Your occlusion or ‘bite’ describes how your teeth meet when your jaws
close together. Good occlusion is key to the success of restorative and
cosmetic dentistry.
Y
our “bite” is important;
if your teeth do not fit together
properly, they may become
damaged through wear, fracture,
cracking or increased mobility.
People with a disrupted bite may
also experience constant
headaches, muscle pain in the
head and neck, tooth sensitivity
and pain when moving the jaw.
Other symptoms may include
excessive clenching and grinding
of the teeth.
It is amazing how easily a
person’s bite can become
disrupted. Even a seemingly
routine treatment involving a filling
or crown placement can create
occlusal problems.

Botox is a popular non-surgical
treatment that uses a natural,
purified protein in very low doses.
When injected into the facial
muscles, it temporarily relaxes the
overactive muscles that cause the
formation of frown lines, forehead
creases and crow’s feet near the
eyes. The reduction in wrinkles
leads to smoother skin and a
more refreshed appearance.
The effects can last between 3-4
months and the procedure is
safe, painless and takes about 10
minutes. Botox is now a widely
accepted treatment and is
becoming as common as going
for a haircut.
Restylane is a gel or “filler” that is
injected into the skin in order to
create volume, smooth out
wrinkles and restore youthful
contours to the skin. It is also the
world’s most commonly used
filler. Since 1966, over 10 million
treatments have been
successfully performed in more
than 70 countries worldwide.
It consists of biocompatible
and biodegradable non-animal
hyaluronic acid, a natural
substance that is already
present in the skin but is lost as
the skin ages. Restylane is safe
to use and is frequently used to
treat deep smile lines, smoker’s
lines around the lips and facial
scars. Restylane can also be
used to “plump up” the lips,
giving them fullness.
So if creams are no longer living
up to their promise and surgery is
a step too far, Botox and
Restylane may be the treatment
