FATHER MARIO’S NOTE
In today’s Gospel, our Lord reminds us that those who follow Him must abandon everything and follow Him.
Remember last Sunday, we were challenged by St Paul: “I have been crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live, yet not
I but Christ lives in me. And the life I now live, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself up
for me.” This challenge truly does echo today’s words of our Lord who states, “…whoever wishes to save his life will
lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” In considering this, we must place it in the context of our
daily lives. HOW can I live a life of abandonment and still work, raise a family, eat and so forth? Simply put, it is
through being willing to humble ourselves through surrendering to Him. Offering up to Him all that we are, all that we
have and all that we will ever be. Not everyone is called to be a lay minister in Africa, become a Parish priest, or to
live out the life of a religious. Yet, we are all CALLED to give our lives to the Lord through offering them to Him, to
live our daily experiences in service to Him in a personal relationship, to let Him live through us and our example.
Pray, spend time in the Word, and live the life. So easy a formula, yet it is a daily struggle. It takes work to deny
yourself, to “take up your cross daily and follow” Him!
With great joy I give thanks to Almighty God for the privilege of being a Priest for Him and His Holy Catholic
Church. As I celebrate having served Him as His priest throughout these past ten years – all here at St Cecilia’s – I am
awed by all that He has done in and through me as your servant before His throne. It is humbling for me to have been
called to the life of a priest and to have the blessing of this ministry. As we celebrate this special time together, I give
thanks to Bishop Foys for his assigning me to this wonderful Parish and entrusting me with the responsibility of being
your Pastor. I look forward, as well, to many more years of serving Him here as your Pastor. In hand with this, I
welcome Fr Thomas Picchioni as my Parochial Vicar. I pray that his service here will be a great experience in
preparation for him one day being a pastor himself. Welcome Fr Thomas!
May you have a great week in the Lord!
In His love,
Fr Mario Joseph Tizziani
Pastor

PARISH SUPPORT
The Teaching Office of the Church – “Divine
assistance is given to the successors of the apostles,
teaching in communion with the successor of Peter,
and, in a particular way, to the bishop of Rome, pastor
of the whole Church, when, without arriving at an
infallible definition and without pronouncing in a
‘definitive manner,’ they propose in the exercise of the
ordinary Magisterium a teaching that leads to better
understanding of Revelation in matters of faith and
morals. To this ordinary teaching the faithful ‘are to
adhere to it with religious assent’ which, though distant
from the ascent of faith, is nonetheless an extension of
it” (CCC 892).

MISERICORDIAE VULTUS
THE FACE OF MERCY – POPE FRANCIS
“Prior to meeting Jesus on the road to Damascus, Paul
dedicated his life to pursing the justice of the law with
zeal. His conversion to Christ led him to turn that
vision upside down, to the point that he would write to
the Galatians: ‘We have believed in Christ Jesus, in
order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by
works of the law, because by works of the law shall no
one be justified. Paul’s understanding of justice
changes radically. He now places faith first, not
justice. Salvation comes not through the observance of
the law, but through faith in Jesus Christ, who to his
death and resurrection brings salvation together with a
mercy that justifies. God’s justice now becomes the
liberating force for those oppressed by slavery to sin
and its consequences. God’s just is his mercy” ” (MV 20
cont’d).

Bless our Father,
Let the example of his faith and love shine forth.
Grant that we, his family,
May honor him always
With a spirit of profound respect.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
May God, who gives life on earth in heaven,
Lead you to walk by the light of faith
And so help your children attain the good things

Amen.
