MARSHALL MANN FUNDRAISER AT
EDDIE GAEDEL’S—June 17th
Marshall Mann, a 5-year old student here in Kaneland,
suffers from Autism. Marshall’s parents have enrolled
Marshall in a variety of therapies in an effort to give
Marshall the best chance of success in the future.
The Mann family recently completed fundraising to
purchase a service dog from 4 Paws for Ability, the
organization that trained a service dog for Kara Peters.
On June 17th, Eddie Gaedel Pub & Grill in Elburn will
be donating a portion of the sales to help offset some
of the Mann family’s expenses associated with the
dog, such as an upcoming two-week stay out of town
to receive training with the dog.
You can show your support for the Mann family by visiting Eddie Gaedel’s on June 17th. Our club will also
be making a donation to the Mann family’s expense
fund. See our web site for more information.

First Annual Tom Mahan Award
Not only is Elburn Lions Community Park treasured
within our club, but within our community. Many will
say that "the park is our biggest charity," and others
will simply note that without our park, the Elburn Lions Club would not be what it is today.
It takes an enormous amount of volunteer work to
keep our park running - be it maintenance or upkeep, repairs or working events such as wedding
receptions and anniversary parties. We count on
volunteers from within our community to keep the
park running.
At the Lions Club's Installation Dinner on May 31st,
2014, Park Board President Lion Phil Gladd presented Lion Tom Mahan with the first annual Tom
Mahan Award.
The Tom Mahan Award recognizes those individuals who have gone above and beyond to help maintain our park, and has been named after Lion Tom,
who for years has given to our park.
Thank you, Lion Tom, for all you have done for
the park!

The Lion Light caught up with incoming
Club President, Lion Bob Thomas, who
you’ve probably seen working Bingo
over the last few years.
Lion Light: Lion Bob—tell us a little
about yourself.
Lion Bob: I grew up in Elburn, but now
live in Sugar Grove with my wife, Sue,
and my two daughters, Holly and Faith.
I graduated from Kaneland High
School. From there I went into the Air
Force for two years, and graduated
from NIU afterwards.
Lion Light: Tell us about how you got
involved with the Lions Club.
Lion Bob: Back in 2009, I joined the
club. Lion Phil Albano is my sponsor.
He got me into working bingo, and I
had a great time doing it. I also thought
it would be a good thing to do with my
daughter Faith, since she was joining
the Leo Club. She likes working at bingo, as well as at Elburn Days and the
Car Show.
Lion Light: What is the most heartwarming moment you’ve had down at
the Elburn Lions Club?
Lion Bob: It’s a tie between two
events—fundraising for a dog for Kara
Peters, and also the Jason’s Journey
event.
Lion Light: The food at the installation
dinner was fantastic—the kitchen crew
did a great job, as always. You picked
out the menu, and we couldn't help but
notice the spumoni ice cream. Very
nice. What is your favorite desert?
Lion Bob: Strawberry ice cream, or
peppermint ice cream, Schwann’s
green peppermint ice cream. Also, frozen snickers are good!
Lion Light: Speaking of frozen snickers, tell us about a favorite winter time
vacation you’d like to take.
Lion Bob: A Caribbean cruise.
Lion Light: Going into your Presidency,
what is one thing you would like people
in the club to be thinking about?
Lion Bob: I really want people to think
about why they’re here, and why we’re
doing what we’re doing. Why are they
a Lion, and how can we do the right
thing?
Lion Light: Lion Bob, we’ll be thinking
about those things, and looking forward to your Presidency!
