for
Increased
Collaboration
Ethiopian Ambassador to Unites States of America,
Mexico, and Jamaica, His Excellency Girma Birru,
arrived in Jamaica on Sunday to explore ways in which
Ethiopia can further collaborate with Jamaica in the
areas of tourism, education, culture, sports and air
transport.
While on the island, the Ambassador is slated to meet
H.E. Amb. Girma Birru held discussions with Honorable Olivia Grange,
Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport of Jamaica
with the Hon. Babsy Grange, Minister of Gender,
Culture, Entertainment and Sport, Senator the Hon.
Ruel Reid, Minister of Education and Information, Hon.
Michael Henry, Minister of Transport and Mining as
well as Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade to
discuss bilateral matters. He will also be touring the
facilities
of
various
private
sector
enterprises,
including Red Stripe and Sutherland Global.
In discussing the visit to Jamaica, the Ambassador
H.E. Amb. Girma Birru with Honorable Michael Henry, Minister of
Transport and Mining of Jamaica
stated: “Jamaica and Ethiopia have enjoyed a historical
and
cultural
affinity;
however,
there
are
many
opportunities for Ethiopia and Jamaica to cooperate
with
each
other-particularly
in
the
strategic
development of tourism, the trade sector and the
sporting industry. This visit will, therefore, shed light
on areas for further collaboration.”
His Excellency Girma Birru is the first Ambassador
appointed by the Federal Democratic Republic of
H.E. Amb. Girma Birru with Senator the Honorable Ruel Reid, Minister of
Education, Youth and Information of Jamaica

to the Governor General, His Excellency the Most
Honourable Sir Patrick Allen, on Tuesday May 12, 2015.

Hundreds of Amhara Region diaspora members residing in
the Washington D.C. Metro area held a successful meeting at
the Ethiopian Embassy on Saturday, May 14, 2016.
The Amhara National Regional State (ANRS) delegation led
by
H.E.
Gedu
Andargachew,
President of
the
Amhara
National Regional State, addressed the hundreds of a packed
H.E. Amb. Girma Birru with Acting Executive Director of Heart
Trust National Training Agency in Jamaica
audience of Ethiopians on regards of the propitious
investment environment currently obtaining in Ethiopia, and
invited the Natives to invest in the Region.
On the meeting, a presentation was made wherein the
congregation was apprised on Investment in particular and
the Growth and Transformation Plans 1, and 2 in general. It
was stated that investment is the kernel of the current
agenda in our country and centre piece of the government's
strategy beside Peace, Development and Democracy.

During the presentation it was made clear
that
conducive investment climate created in the Amhara
Region
and the
major economic and social activities
undertaken to improve the lives of
the people have
proven tremendously positive by all standards. It was
also
underscored that the development strides in the
Region in particular and Ethiopia in general have been
corroborated by notable institutions and world media.
Ato Gedu then opened the floor for a candid discussion
and admitted that most of the questions raised were
positive enough that were answered from the Chair.
The President, during the interactive meeting, reminded
the community members to take personal initiative to
actively engage in the national development by resolving
to put their competencies, skills and fund into use to
make a difference in all fields. The audience expressed
its readiness to inject their share in their area of
competence in the on-going
investment and national
socio-economic drive.

inaugurated in the presence of hundreds of Diaspora
Ethiopians at the auditorium

Araya, played
in his Managerial capacity and they
expressed their hope that the book which they titled
Morning Star, speaks all and appealed to the audience
to make good use of it.

Ambassador Extra-Ordinary, Girma Birru reminisced
that the Late Araya Zerihun, presented in the book, was
really an initiator of social development in its true
sense, and an economic and social liberator. Ato Araya
Zerihun, the Special Envoy attributed was renowned for
introducing
new concepts and approaches to his ideas
of social and development initiatives.

communicator. Dr. Tilahun made a brief citation on the
inception of the Tigray Development Association (TDA)
in which he underscored is the brain child of the late
Ato Araya Zerihun.

Ato Mulugeta Berhe from the Embassy's Diaspora
Section who had earlier introduced the sequence of the
program, opened the floor for a bid of one book which
contained the signatures of Ambassador Girma Birru
and the wife of the Late Ato Araya Zerihuin, drew an
active participation of the audience and fetched $1,600
from an individual. The Mass Pledges, ensued with a
maximum of Fifty books and a minimum of Ten books
taken by individuals and was followed by sales of single
books.
