Madrid
MADRID
Meet fellow travelers and expedition staff in Madrid for a
festive welcome dinner. If you choose to arrive early enjoy
several options to explore on your own. Take in some of
Europe’s finest art collections at the nearby Museo Nacional
del Prado. Soccer fans can opt to take a guided tour of one
of the game’s most famous venues, Santiago Bernabéu
Stadium, referred to as simply the Bernabéu and home to the
much-decorated Real Madrid C.F.
Accommodations
In the heart of Madrid’s “Golden Triangle,” Hotel Ritz by
Belmond is a classic luxury hotel within walking distance of
the city’s major cultural and shopping centers. The landmark
building features such amenities as a spa, fitness center, two
restaurants and a bar.
“The attention to detail from
beginning to end was superb.
Postcards, local currency,
expedited service through airports,
seemingly endless options, even
welcome-home chocolates!”

Baku
Once a booming oil town and Soviet republic, Baku is an
intriguing blend of historic structures, modern glass towers and
Soviet-era apartment blocks. A city of contrasts, black cabs
imported from London traverse streets lined with designer
boutiques adjacent to 15th-century architecture.
A maze of narrow streets and ancient buildings, tour Baku’s
Walled City, which dates back to the sixth century B.C. and
is a UNESCO World Heritage site. See Shirvanshah’s Palace,
the magnificently carved stone complex that was the last
residence of the rulers of the powerful Shirvan State. Take in
stunning views of the pathways and minarets from the top of
the iconic Maiden Tower, built in the 12th century and the focus
of much folklore. Opt for a day trip to the Gobustan Rock Art
Cultural Landscape, also known as Gobustan National Park.
Another UNESCO World Heritage site, this area of plateaus and
rocky boulders is home to more than 6,000 rock engravings
spanning 40,000 years of rock art, ancient cave settlements
and burial grounds.
Accommodations
On the waterfront promenade, Four Seasons Hotel Baku
features spacious rooms with balconies that open to views
of the Caspian Sea or the Walled City. Guests can unwind at
the penthouse spa or with a swim in the indoor pool set in a
sky-lit, two-story atrium.

Samarkand
UZBEKISTAN
An outpost of the fabled Silk Road and considered the
“crossroads of world cultures,” the city of Samarkand
prospered in the 14th and 15th centuries under the rule of
Timur, who oversaw the city’s most significant development.
Stroll through Registan Square and its assembly of buildings
with exquisitely decorated mosques, madrassas and minarets
in vibrant blue tiles. Step inside the sparkling Gur-Emir
mausoleum, the tomb of Timur, crowned with an azure-tiled
dome. Explore the sacred Shakhi-Zinda complex and see the
turquoise domes of the majestic Bibi-Khanym Mosque, once
one of the Islamic world’s largest. Among the fluted domes
and giant monuments to Timur, browse the city’s lively bazaars
filled with stalls of dried fruits and nuts, colorful fabrics and
freshly baked bread. The round, distinctly decorated bread,
called obi non, is baked in clay furnaces.
Accommodations
Conveniently located in the city center, Registan Plaza Hotel
Samarkand is adjacent to the business district and historical
Old Town. All rooms are comfortably furnished and equipped
with modern amenities.
“The TCS staff was outstanding.
They delivered much more than
promised, all with a warm smile.”

NOV. 6-7
Xi’an
The ancient city of Xi’an was China’s first capital and the
starting point of the Silk Road. Here you will absorb the
grandeur and scale of the Terracotta Army, created to guard
China’s founding emperor, Qin Shi Huang, in the afterlife.
Discovered by farmers in 1974, this UNESCO World Heritage
Site contains thousands of life-size terracotta figures.
Enjoy a dim sum lunch replete with artfully crafted dumplings
designed to resemble animals—the origami of the food
world. Explore the Wild Goose Pagoda, one of China’s most
important Buddhist symbols. This pagoda was among the
tallest buildings of its era and housed Buddhist artifacts
and symbols imported from India. Our tour of Xi’an ends
with a Tang Dynasty music and dance performance, an
ancient art representative of Xi’an’s status as a cultural hub
on the Silk Road.
Accommodations
The Westin Xi’an is just steps from exhilarating cultural sites,
restaurants and shops in the Qu Jiang Tourism Development
District. Guestrooms offer such amenities as wireless Internet
and hair dryers. The hotel offers a lounge, spa, gym with
indoor pool, and several restaurants serving both regional
and international specialties.
CHINA
NOV. 8-9
Lhasa
This morning we take a local flight to the sacred Buddhist
city of Lhasa, Tibet. Lhasa, Tibet’s capital city, is located
on one of the world’s highest plateaus. Visit the lavishly
ornamented Potala Palace, once the winter residence of
the Dalai Lama, that also served as the seat of the Tibetan
government. Witness the monks as they go about their daily
rituals at the nearly 600-year-old Sera Monastery. Take
in Jokhang Temple, the region’s oldest and most revered
temple.
TIBET
Alternate: Instead of flying to Lhasa, continue to Guilin
on a local commercial flight. Cruise the picturesque
Li River on a private bamboo raft, admiring the karst
peaks rising above. Watch traditional cormorant fishers
and meet local farmers. Take part in a private cooking
class before an evening flight to Chengdu. There, see
pandas at the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Center.
This non-profit is recognized among the top global
environmental conservation entities by the United Nations
Environment Program.
Accommodations
The St. Regis Lhasa Resort in Tibet offers excellent service
and serenity with such amenities as its sparkling Golden
Energy Pool, Iridium Spa and Meditation Garden. The
spacious guest rooms offer custom-designed furnishings
and beautiful views of Lhasa.
Alternate: Enjoy unobstructed views of the Li River at
the Banyan Tree Yangshuo. This property blends local
architectural styles with traditional Chinese furnishings.
The Shangri-La Chengdu offers a visual feast for every
visitor with its surrounding rivers, bridges, trees and
gardens. The spacious guest rooms include modern
amenities such as wireless Internet and hair dryers.
NOV. 10-12
Luang Prabang
Surrounded by jungle-covered mountains where the Mekong
and Nam Khan Rivers meet, life in Laos unfolds at an unhurried
pace. Temples sit next to elegant French colonial architecture in
the old town. With more than 30 temples, it is no wonder that
UNESCO deemed this ancient city a World Heritage site.
To better understand Laotian culture, opt for a sunrise excursion
to see the morning almsgiving, a sacred ceremony where locals
offer sticky rice to monks. Dive deeper into regal history at
the Royal Palace where the lavish Throne Room plays second
fiddle to the sacred Pha Bang, the golden Buddha less than
three feet tall, a gift to the city that is recognized as the official
introduction of Buddhism to Laos for which the city derives
its name. Opt to meet local craftswomen at the Living Crafts
Centre Ock Pop Tok, a social enterprise dedicated to preserving
fine textiles, handicrafts and ethnic design. Or float down the
Mekong River on motorized long boats and view daily life along
the water.
Accommodations
In Luang Prabang, we split between the following hotels:
Central to the Luang Prabang peninsula, Amantaka provides
easy access to many historic sights, including the former Royal
Palace. In addition to its comfortably furnished rooms and suites,
this large garden estate features a spa, pool and art gallery
displaying works from local artists.
La Résidence Phou Vao sits atop seven acres of lush gardens.
Guest rooms include large windows that open to stunning views
and first-class amenities. The resort also features a UNESCO
heritage garden and infinity plunge pool.

NOV. 13-16
Bagan, Inle Lake and Yangon
MYANMAR
Once the historic overland trade route between India and
China, Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) is emerging
from decades of political and economic isolation. This land
of ancient Buddhist temples remains largely unspoiled by the
modern world.
On arrival in Yangon, take a local charter flight to the ancient
city of Bagan. Home to more than 2,000 temples scattered
over 26 square miles, Bagan was once a thriving capital and
the heart of Buddhism in the region. The collective scope of
the temples makes it one of the top archaeological treasures
in Asia rivaling Angkor Wat. The next day board a local
charter flight to Inle Lake where daily life unfolds among
stilted houses and floating markets set over tranquil waters.
Watch skilled locals guide rowboats with a single leg on the
oar as they tend the lake’s floating gardens. We return to
Yangon for our final night and visit the over 300-foot-tall
Shwedagon Pagoda, the shimmering golden temple that
dominates the capital’s skyline.
Accommodations
Set within the Bagan Archaeological Preservation Zone
among the ancient temples of the Kingdom of Bagan, the
Aureum Palace Bagan is a spacious 27-acre resort that
features villas and rooms furnished with unique crafts.
Aureum Palace Inle is on the edge of tranquil Inle Lake, a
series of expansive waterways. Uniquely designed rooms line
the shore and feature lounge areas and lotus ponds.
Sule Shangri-La, Yangon is a contemporary property known
for traditional hospitality. Rooms include views of the Yangon
River and nearby pagodas.
NOV. 17-19
Taj Mahal and Udaipur
No visit to India is complete without seeing the Taj Mahal,
the white marble mausoleum that took over 22 years, 20,000
people and 1,000 elephants to construct. Witness the
interplay of light and shadow on the walls and surrounding
reflecting pools, and observe its intricate mosaics created
with precious stones.
After our day stop, we reboard our private jet to Rajasthan,
a region of opulence that is known as the “land of kings.”
Perhaps no place better exemplifies this title as Udaipur, a
city rich in royal rivalry, set on the banks of Lake Pichola and
home to revered temples and marble palaces. Discover the
City Palace, a complex comprised of 11 smaller structures
filled with courtyards and hanging gardens. Visit the Fateh
Prakash Palace, a luxury hotel that houses the Crystal Gallery.
Venture into the Rajasthani countryside to Ranakpur Temple,
one of the five holiest Jain sites in the world. Or choose a
horseback ride through the Aravalli Range, exploring small
villages and ending with a lakeside alfresco lunch.
Accommodations
Built to emulate a traditional Indian palace, the Oberoi
Udaivilas is grandeur at its finest. Rajasthan’s rich heritage and
style is present in the hotel’s courtyards, fountains and gardens.
“I’d absolutely travel with TCS again.
You anticipated every need, making
every moment perfect. First-class
service in every aspect of the trip.”

Petra or the Dead Sea
JORDAN
Half-built, half-carved into rose-red cliffs by the mysterious
Nabataean people more than 2,000 years ago, Petra was once
a rich, sprawling metropolis of lush gardens, fountains and
villas. Imagine this long-forgotten era as you walk through the
Siq, a narrow chasm in the bedrock, and emerge before the
elaborate Treasury. Explore the intricate buildings and tombs,
and observe up close the superb blending of Eastern traditions
with Hellenistic architecture.
Alternate: Or opt to see the ancient site of Jerash and the
Dead Sea. Known as the “Pompeii of the East” because it was
preserved under blankets of desert sands, explore Jerash’s
theaters, temples and stone roads once traveled by chariots.
Then go to the lowest spot on the face of the earth, the Dead
Sea, and float in this mineral-rich body of water.
Accommodations
With its close proximity to the sights, the Mövenpick Petra
smoothly blends Middle Eastern craftsmanship with modern
conveniences.
Alternate: Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea is situated on
the edge of the Dead Sea amid gardens dotted with lagoons,
waterfalls and nine amazing swimming pools boasting views
of the sea.

infeasible to operate. If TCS cancels the Tour prior to departure, you will receive a
full refund of monies paid. Please note that costs for visas, commercial air tickets,
insurance, suite upgrades, and pre- or post-tour independent arrangements may not
be refundable.
Insurance: We strongly recommend this important protection, which can save you
money if you are forced to cancel or alter your trip. Insurance premium payments
are nonrefundable.
Baggage: On the private jet, each Participant is limited to 90 pounds of checked
baggage in 2 bags (one bag of your choice limited to 50 pounds, and one wheeled
bag that TCS will send ahead of time to you specifically for use on the Tour, limited
to 40 pounds); plus a few smaller carry-on items such as a backpack, purse, camera,
and/or laptop. For international flights, the air carrier’s liability is limited to the actual
value of the baggage but not more than 1,000 Special Drawing Rights, approximately
$1,250 per person, unless a higher value is declared at the time of check-in and an
appropriate excess valuation charge is paid. Baggage, when not handled by TCS, and
personal effects are at all times the sole responsibility of the Participant.
Aircraft: The private jet flights will be performed using a Boeing 757 jet with 80 VIPstyle seats. The air carrier for the Tour will be TAG Aviation (UK) Ltd, Farnborough
Airport, Hampshire, GU14 6XA, United Kingdom. TCS and the air carrier reserve the

configuration of the aircraft.
Visa Documents/Entry Permits: To participate in the Tour, visas and/or entry
permits may be required for some countries. Acquiring visas and/or entry permits
is the responsibility of the Participant. Failure to obtain visas and/or entry permits
does not negate the terms and conditions. Any extra costs for rerouting Participants
without visas and/or entry permits will be the responsibility of the Participant. We
will provide information on the necessary visas and/or entry permits in the Tour
documents.
Single/Shared Accommodations & Suite Upgrades: A limited number of single
rooms are available at an extra cost on a first-come, first-served basis. We will
make reasonable efforts to assist persons requesting a roommate. If a roommate
is not confirmed, the single rate will be charged. Suite rooms are available in some
destinations; more information about them, including their extra costs, will be sent
to you in the months before departure.
Itinerary Changes: The itinerary and staff are subject to modification and change by
TCS. Every reasonable effort will be made to operate the Tour as planned; however,
should unforeseen world events and conditions require our itinerary to be altered,
we reserve the right to do so for the safety and best interest of the group.
International Flights: The operation of these flights is subject to the foreign
governments involved granting landing rights for the flight. If the air carrier cannot
obtain these rights for any particular flight leg of the Tour, that flight leg will be
canceled and alternative arrangements may be made, at the discretion of TCS.
Health Requirements: This is an active program, which requires you to make a
realistic assessment of your health. All Participants are expected to be in active good
health, to enjoy traveling as part of a group, and to be ready to experience cultural
differences with grace. Walking and climbing stairs are required in many hotels and
airports, to board the aircraft, and as part of many excursions. Prior to traveling, we
highly recommend visiting your personal physician for a check-up, so that you may
discuss your ability to participate in this type of journey. To go to certain destinations
or participate in certain activities, such as vising a high-altitude area (8,000 feet
above sea level and higher) you may need to obtain your physician’s approval; in
this case, a form will be sent to you for your physician to sign. We are prepared to
arrange for an alternative destination or activity, in case a physician recommends
it. Malaria and other diseases may be present in some of the countries featured
in this itinerary. For the latest recommendations on specific health precautions for
the areas you will visit, consult your physician and the Centers for Disease Control.
Any physical condition requiring special attention, diet, or treatment should be
reported in writing when the reservation is made. We will make reasonable efforts
to accommodate Participants with special needs; however, we cannot accommodate
wheelchairs. If you require a slower pace, extra assistance, or the use of a cane or
walking stick, arrangements will be made for private touring at each destination, if
necessary, at the discretion of our tour staff. Any extra cost for such arrangements
will be the responsibility of the Participant. If you would like to forego some of the
scheduled sightseeing to rejuvenate and relax, please feel free to do so at any time.
Photography & Video: We reserve the right to take photographs and/or videos
(the “Photography”) during the Tour and to use the Photography for promotional
purposes. Participants who prefer their images not be used must notify us in writing
before the commencement of the Tour.

Basis of Rates: All prices are based on two persons sharing a room. All prices and
fares are quoted in U.S. dollars. The rates are based on current tariffs and are subject
to change due to unforeseen circumstances. While TCS will make reasonable efforts

TCS, nor any of its respective owners, directors, employees, contractors, officers or
agents (collectively, the “Released Parties”) shall be held liable for (A) any damage to,

for bodily injury, property damage, wrongful death, loss of services, lost profits,
consequential, exemplary, indirect or punitive damages or otherwise that may
arise out of or occur during your travel in connection with the Tour. The Participant
waives any claim against any of the Released Parties for any such loss, damage,
injury, or death, including any right to seek consequential, punitive or exemplary
damages against any of the Released Parties for any reason whatsoever. None of the
Released Parties shall be liable for any air carrier’s cancellation penalty incurred by
the purchase of a nonrefundable ticket.
Acknowledgment of Risk: You understand and acknowledge that your travel in
connection with and participation in the Tour or any activities which may take place
during the Tour, may involve risk and potential exposure to injury or fatal injury and
that risk and dangers may arise or be caused by the negligence or participation

you willingly and voluntarily assume full responsibility for any injury, loss, or damage
suffered by you or caused by you. By registering for the Tour, you certify that you
do not have any mental, physical or other condition or disability that would create a
hazard for yourself or other Participants. TCS reserves the right in its sole discretion
to accept, decline to accept or remove any Participant on the Tour and reserves the
right, subject to the terms and conditions contained herein, to withdraw any part or
all of the Tour and to make such changes as may be necessary.
Arbitration: Any controversy or claim arising out of or relating to this Agreement

in any court having jurisdiction over the subject matter of the controversy. Such

the right to seek arbitration is for any reason waived by both parties, or if judicial
review of any arbitration is sought, any action or legal proceeding arising out of this
Agreement shall be brought exclusively in the courts of the State of Washington, or,
if it has or can acquire jurisdiction, in the United States District Court for the Western
District of Washington or the appropriate appellate courts, and the parties hereby
waive any objection to venue or jurisdiction in connection therewith. In connection
