Crowned the Sprint Queen of the Pacific, Toea
Wisil has certainly made her mark in the Papua New
Guinean sports scene, inspiring young athletes all
across Oceania.
From humble beginnings in the Western Highlands of PNG, Toea is proving that no matter
your circumstances through hard work and dedication you can achieve greatness.
Toea burst onto the international athletics stage after her efforts at the 2003 inaugural PNG
Games where she impressed the then president Tony Green with her performance in the
400m sprint which led to her being invited to attend two national training camps.
Toea has never looked back. Toea has been crowned Papua New Guinea’s Sports Woman
of the Year in the SP Sports Awards in 2010 and 2011, flag bearer at the 2012 London
Olympics as well as one of the Games Ambassadors for the 6th PNG Games in 2014, Toea’s
determination and commitment to continually improving herself and pushing herself is
paying off.
Achievements
Toea’s career has seen her compete in the world’s most prestigious sporting events. In 2012
Toea had the pleasure of being Papua New Guinea’s flag bearer at the London Olympic
Games.
Some of her notable accomplishments on the track is 5 Gold Medals won at the 2011 Pacific
Games in New Caledonia, winning the 100m, 200m, 400m, 4 x 100m relay and 4 x 400m
relay.
In April 2013 Wisil became the first ever Papua New Guinean to hold an Australian national
track title when she claimed the 100 metres in Sydney. In 2010 she missed out on PNG’s
first ever track and field medal at the Commonwealth Games by just 0.04 of a second, in
finishing 4th in the 100m.
In 2014, Toea was announced as an official games ambassador of the 2014 PNG Games in
Lae, PNG.

Toea is based on the Gold Coast where she trains at the Griffith University athletics track
under the guidance of Sharon Hannan the former coach of Australian Sprinter Sally Pearson.
The below training schedule demonstrates the commitment Toea has to her chosen sport
and hopefully soon we can incorporate a time table for education to become a part of her

Apparel Opportunities
Prospective Sponsors will have the opportunity to align their brand with Toea Wisil in a number of
different contexts:
1. During competition – under IAAF rules no sponsors other than apparel companies such as
Nike/Asics can be on the garments all athletes wear during competition.
2. At training/warming up – Toea will wear a custom made shirt affording branding opportunities
for her sponsors at events that can attract media attention, but again this is subject to IAAF
rules in terms of at what point she can no longer wear this.
3. Educational appearances – a custom made shirt for her educational sponsor/s will be worn by
Toea for appearances relating to the work she will be doing to advocate literacy and education.
4. Whilst travelling or participating in general media appearances – it is proposed that when Toea
is travelling she will wear a custom made polo shirt which will depict her Principal and Major
sponsors only. Likewise when she is participating in scheduled media appearances that are not
part of a specific event that may be subject to sponsorship restriction that she wear this same
custom made polo shirt that will depict the principal sponsor and major sponsors.
** Please note that the Principal and Major sponsors will have the right to have Toea wear their own
shirts, caps etc for the purposes of leveraging their association.

Public Relations
Toea Wisil is a proud Papua New Guinean but like many in PNG she
is illiterate. It is estimated that over 680,000 children aged 6-14
remain out of school. Literacy rates are in general are low and in
females particularly, very low.
Toea’s image has graced the front and back pages of the Post
Courier and National newspapers. She was recently an ambassador
for the PNG Games and as such had significant exposure on TV. She
has been seen on billboards and you only need google her name and
you can see her online presence.
Toea is already a powerful conduit to masses of engaged and
passionate Papua New Guinean’s, this is set to increase on the back
of the 2015 Pacific Games and thus will only serve to amplify the
message she can deliver.
With an education, Toea’s ability to deliver this message becomes
infinitely more powerful. As such, an Education partner or partners
is required to provide the necessary financial support (direct to the
provider) to achieve this end.
Given her training commitments Toea’s only option is to have a
private tutor and given past attempts to get some education for
her it is evident Toea requires intensive (starting with the basics)
teaching.
Processes are in place to facilitate media equivalency for your
brand through any association with Toea, dependant on the level of
investment.
Professional Development
Toea is supported by her coach Sharon Hannan. But this is no
ordinary coach and athlete relationship, she is coaching life skills
too. Sharon guides Toea in all facets of her life from helping her with
her budget to sourcing a vehicle to get around.
Brand Ambassadors Director Terry Johnston is assisting Toea (and
Sharon) to understand her obligations to sponsors, the return they
seek on their investment and what it means to build equity in her
own brand.

Sponsorship Model
Below is the proposed sponsorship model designed to provide the necessary funding for Toea to operate as a professional athlete, to gain a
much needed education and ultimately assist in setting her up for a life beyond her athletic career.
Toea’s Principal Sponsor is the Bank of South Pacific. They have been and continue to be a highly valued supporter of Toea Wisil. There are
two major sponsorships available at $17,000 AUD each and a number of supporting sponsorships available for those companies who can
provide cost relieving in kind support, in certain areas necessary for Toea to operate as a professional athlete.
It is proposed that the education partner (or partners) are kept separate to her sponsors supporting her athletic endeavours. That is, it is
proposed that a customised suite of benefits will be tailored for the sponsor/s in this space given the opportunity to position Toea as a role
model for improving literacy rates and truancy.
