TERM 2 WEEK 4
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Parents
Diocesan Cross Country
On Monday 16 May, 10 of our students represented the school at the Diocesan Cross Country
in Quirindi. Congratulations to all of our students on showing such determination and drive to
compete to the best of their ability during their race. Special congratulations go to three of our
boys Daniel Murrell, Ronald Boxsell and Malakye Wright who have all qualified to go to the
Polding trials. Daniel won the Senior Boys AWD, Ronald came 3rd in the 12/13yr Boys and
Malakye won the Junior Boys AWD. We wish you all the best when you travel to Eastern Creek
to compete next month. I would also like to thank Mrs Kim Heagney for her organisation and
co-ordination of this event. Thank you also to the parents who so willingly took their children,
allowing them to compete at this event.
Kinder 2017 Open Morning
On Monday the 6th June the school will hold our Kinder 2017 Open Morning starting at 9:30am.
The day will include a tour of the school, an information session, morning tea with current
parents and fun activities for the pre-schoolers. We will also give further information about our
Transition program to be offered in Term 4. If you know of any children who are ready to start
Kindergarten next year please invite them and their parents along to our school for this
important morning. I will also be attending the Uralla Pre-school Information Night on 25 May to
present some information to parents about what a St Joseph’s School education can offer their
child.
End of Year Awards
Within this newsletter I have included, for your information, the list of prizes that will be handed
out at the end of year presentation night. The teachers have reorganised the evening to make it
a celebration of each and every student’s learning. Please take the time to read through this
sheet and if you have any questions please contact me. This will also be shared with our
students later this week.
Step Day Year 5
On the 25th May our year 5 students have been invited to a STEP (Stage Three Experience
Program) Day at O’Connor. In the past, these days have been offered as a combined Year 5 &
6 day but due to larger numbers they have now been offered separately. Year 6 students had a
STEP day last term. Notes have gone home today with our Year 5 students. Please return the
signed permission notes by Friday.

PUPIL FREE DAY

PARENT VOLUNTEER CHECKS
In complying with Government and CSO Child Protection guidelines we as a school are required to obtain
clearance for all adults who are engaged in both paid and volunteer work where the employee or volunteer
comes into contact with the students in our care.
Over the last two weeks we have obtained the signed declarations and/or Working with Children
Clearances for our canteen helpers.
We are now requesting ALL PARENTS WHO VOLUNTEER IN ANY OTHER WAY (for example: driving
students other than your own child to sporting and other events, assisting at school events such as
swimming and athletics carnivals etc.) to complete a declaration form which is included in this newsletter. It
would be appreciated if you would return the completed form as soon as possible. Thank you for your
understanding in this matter and a big thank you again to all our volunteers.

DIOCESAN CROSS COUNTRY RECOUNT
On Monday Ethan Walters, Malakye Wright, Jack Young, Kaitlyn Walters, Georgia
White, Charlotte Murrell, Jack Reddon, Angela Ryan, Sascha Wright, Ronald Boxsell
and Daniel Murrell travelled to Quirindi for Diocesan Cross Country.
At 10:00 we had to walk the track which was at the race course. We raced in all
different age groups—U8/9s, U10s, U11s and U12/13s. There was a canteen which
had wonderful cupcakes. The ambulance was there in case somebody hurt themselves.
The tracks had lots of ditches, gullies and large cracks because the ground was dry
and hard.
We all sat under the gazebo as a school team with our parents and family. Everyone
ran fast and hard, and all tried their best.
Three students successfully made it to Polding to be held at Eastern Creek, Sydney.
Ronald came third. Malakye and Daniel came first in their AWD divisions.
Thank you to our parents for taking us. We wish Daniel, Ronald and Malakye good
luck!
