MAX-PROP AUTOMATIC FEATHERING PROPELLER
Max-Prop is the leading low drag propeller on the
market today. Since starting production in the
1970’s Max-Prop has proven itself on racing and
cruising boats around the world. With over 35,000
propellers in the water, the Max-Prop is tested daily
in the harshest conditions and has established itself
as the most efficient and reliable low drag propeller.
The combination of low drag, outstanding reverse
power, efficient forward performance and fail safe
design makes Max-Prop the ideal Sailboat
propeller on the market today. Now with the
introduction of the ECOWIND, Max-Prop
has taken a revolutionary step forward in
the propulsion of Sailboats.
MAX-PROP FEATURES
LOW DRAG: Under sail the Max-Prop will
increase sailing speed by about 15%, the largest
difference being noticed when sailing in light air.
When sailing with a fixed propeller the vessel has to
overcome the fixed blade drag, installing a
Max-Prop maximizes sailing performance.
RELIABILITY: Max-Prop uses a
“differential” type design so all blades
open in unison in forward or reverse. The
extraordinary reliability of the Max-Prop has
made it an overwhelming choice for long
range cruisers.
GREAT REVERSE: The Max-Prop provides
80% greater reverse power than a comparable fixed
blade propeller. In reverse the blades rotate 180° in
¾ turn of the shaft giving the Max-Prop the same
efficiency in reverse as in forward.
Adjustability: The pitch is adjustable on
all Max-Props. This allows you to optimize the
propeller pitch to the engine to achieve maximum
efficiency.

Two and Three Blade Classic
The original Max-Prop was designed in the early 70’s for the high tech race boat
market. Since proving itself in the racing arena, the Classic Max-Prop has earned
its way into the mainstream market as the leader in low drag propellers. Today
you will find the Classic Max-Prop on a wide range of vessels from modest 25
foot daysailers to 150 foot classic schooners. While satisfying the racer with low
drag, its efficiency under power in both forward and reverse will keep cruisers
happy too.
With regards to performance under power, both two and three blade propellers
will power the boat well in flat water. The three blade has a major advantage
when going against heavy winds and seas, it will maintain the boat speed up to
30% better than the two blade. Moreover, a three blade propeller will run much
smoother and reduce vibrations as it is balanced around three points as opposed
to two.
With its unsurpassed thrust performance ability in both forward and reverse, the
Classic Max-Prop has become a legend among the sailing community.

Three and Four Blade VP
The Max-Prop VP is an enhancement of the highly
successful Classic. The VP provides simple external pitch
adjustment using a breakthrough patented system. This
system allows for easy pitch adjustment by a diver in a
matter of seconds. The finer 1 degree adjustment of the
VP provides the ability to tune the propeller for ideal range
and fuel economy, or for motor sailing.
When compared to the three blade, the four blade provides
improved balance making it the smoothest under-power
Max-Prop yet. The additional blade also improves thrust
when under-power against heavy wind and seas. The four
blade is shipped fully assembled. This new design
makes the installation as easy as installing a
fixed propeller, with minimal
assembly required.
Robert Perry on Max-Prop: “I am always
surprised by the number of sailors intent upon
good sailing performance who are willing to
accept less than maximum speed under sail as
well as under power... in my mind the Max-Prop
is the finest tool for the job...”
Available from 14” to 40
For shafts 1” to 2 ½” or metric equivalent
Also available for a SailDrive
Four Blade
The all new Max-Prop
ECOWIND propeller is a
true revolution in propulsion
technology for sailboats. The
patented spring based design drives
the propeller pitch automatically
to its optimum position according
to the load. When the boat is accelerating
the pitch flattens to allow the engine RPM’s and
boat speed to increase quickly. Progressively as the
vessel gets up to speed and the load decreases, the
pitch increases.
FEATURES:
ECOWIND
The result, compared to a fixed pitch propeller is
more boat speed with the same RPM’s, or the same
boat speed at a lower RPM.
The Max-Prop ECOWIND is four blade propeller
designed to combine maximum efficiency and
perfect balance (no vibrations). As an added feature
the Max-Prop ECOWIND uses a pitch adjustment
ring which allows you to tune the propeller pitch
exactly to your boat and engine combination.
Because the Max-Prop ECOWIND adjusts to the
loads in play, it will never “overload” the engine and
will respect the engine manufacturer
required RPM’s.
Speed / RPM on 47 Foot Yacht
Higher top speed cruising in calm conditions:
The light load on the propeller allows the pitch to
increase and the result is a higher speed at a
given RPM.
Higher top speed in rough conditions:
The heavy load forces the propeller pitch to decrease,
letting the engine increase its RPM resulting in more
power in the water, meaning more boat speed.
Much lower fuel consumption (at any speed
below hull speed):
At cruising speed, the pitch adjusts to the load.
This almost always results in a lower engine RPM
at a given speed, without overloading the engine,
resulting in a much lower fuel consumption.
Extended range under power (due to the
lower fuel consumption):
An important feature for ocean passages. The
ECOWIND can increase your fuel range by
up to 30%.
Better acceleration:
As a boat at rest needs a lot of power to accelerate,
the ECOWIND reduces the pitch during the
acceleration process resulting in more power, and
better acceleration. Acceleration in itself is not
important for a sailboat but the extra power at low
speed helps while maneuvering.
Very easy installation:
The installation of the Max-Prop ECOWIND is
very simple. The propeller is delivered assembled.
Just slip the hub on the shaft, thread and tighten the
nut, thread the two, lock screws for the nut, install
the zinc anode (3 screws), and it is done!
Much less engine noise at cruising speed:
The fact that the engine runs at lower RPMs at
cruising speed translates into much lower
engine noise.
Fine tune the pitch:
If your engine achieves either too much or too little
RPM at max throttle, just turn the pitch adjustment
ring to a higher or lower setting to attain the correct
RPM (no special tools are required).
Available from 14” to 32”
For shafts 1” to 2” or metric equivalent
Also available for a SailDrive
Low drag:
Just like other Max-Prop propellers,
the ECOWIND feathers to a low drag
position while sailing.
