Johan Dalene
Yehudi Menuhin founded his famous school in England
to provide the environment and tuition for musically gifted
children from all over the world to pursue their love of music,
develop their musical potential, and achieve standards
of performance on stringed instruments and piano at the
highest level.
Malcolm Singer
The Alternative Menuhin
Yehudi Menuhin was the most prominent classical
musician of his generation to embark on cross-genre
collaborations and his work with Indian musician Ravi
Shankar and jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli has become
famous. Curated by British violinist, songwriter, composer
and Artistic Director of the JMI, Sophie Solomon, this
evening will celebrate the musical diversity of the violin
across genres in a tribute to Yehudi Menuhin. An all-star
line-up: Tcha Limberger, John Etheridge, Dave Kelbie,

In the first half of the concert The Yehudi Menuhin School
Orchestra will perform music by George Enescu who was
Menuhin’s teacher, as well as a new piece by Malcolm
Singer, who is Director of Music at the school. This was
specially commissioned for Menuhin’s centenary and is
for seven violins. In addition two of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons
will be performed by Johan Dalene, a Junior prizewinner
of the Menuhin Competition London 2016. The Menuhin
Competition is the world’s leading competition for young
violinists, held biennially in a different global city.
