ORTOVOX EQUIPS ITS AVALANCHE TRANSCEIVERS
WITH RECCO REFLECTORS
The ORTOVOX avalanche safety experts are joining forces with RECCO. Starting fall 2013, RECCO REFLECTORS
will be built into all ORTOVOX AVALANCHE TRANSCEIVERS. By collaborating both companies CONTINUE TO
IMPROVE THE EXISTING SAFETY STANDARDS and REDUCE the SEARCH TIMES of professional rescuers when
searching for avalanche victims.
ONE MORE CHANCE
Never go without! The use of the RECCO system is widespread. Today more than 700 SKI AREAS AND RESCUE
TEAMS around the world are equipped with RECCO search devices, called DETECTORS. In the words of ORTOVOX
CEO, Christian Schneidermeier, “To us, RECCO represents the IDEAL ADDITION TO OUR ESSENTIAL EMERGENCY
EQUIPMENT consisting of avalanche transceivers, probes and shovels. We feel that the small RECCO reflectors
are a useful development and will help improve our safety standards.”
RECCO, a Swedish company founded in 1983, specializes in PROFESSIONAL RESCUE and provides advanced
electronic search equipment to professional rescuers. The two-part RECCO system complements transceivers.
PROFESSIONAL RESCUE teams are equipped with the RECCO detector. This handheld, schoolbook-sized radar
device detects a very small 4 gram reflector integrated into clothing and select gear worn by the avalanche
victim. “The system enables fast searching and DIRECTIONAL PINPOINTING of a victim‘s precise location using
DIRECTIONAL RADAR,” says Magnus Granhed RECCO CEO and founder. Originally developed for use in and
around ski areas, the RECCO system also benefits those in the backcountry. Granhed continues, “ORTOVOX
avalanche transceivers provide cutting edge technology to today’s winter visitors. Together an ORTOVOX transceiver and a RECCO reflector create an integrated rescue system that gives professional rescuers two means to find
avalanche victims.”

Schneidermeier adds, “By integrating a reflector into all of our avalanche transceivers, any of our customers who
get caught in an avalanche have A BETTER CHANCE OF BEING FOUND AND ARE LIKELY TO BE FOUND MORE
QUICKLY since professional rescuers usually first search the avalanche deposit with a RECCO detector and
transceiver simultaneously – often when they are still in the air.” Granhed continues, “By combining two technologies we’re providing opportunities to rescuers to do their jobs even faster, and that’s when rescuers can make a
difference.” Human errors can render the best transceivers ineffective. Schneidermeier continues, “In addition,
avalanche victims who have forgotten to turn on their avalanche transceivers or whose batteries have died can
also be found.” The small RECCO reflector can be integrated into an avalanche transceiver and does not interfere
with operation and performance. RECCO detectors and avalanche transceivers can be used simultaneously
without any problems.
