As part of its commitment to provide and maintain the area’s most extensive
cellular network, Cellular One is adding another cell site to its stable. Located

minimal coverage or no coverage existed previously,” says Jamie Davis, Vice

coverage gaps along Route 6 and provide signal coverage to the surrounding

Are you aware of the effects that the recent healthcare reform legislation has on small businesses
like yours?
One of the provisions of the legislation is a tax credit for small businesses that offer health insurance to their
employees and meet certain guidelines. It provides incentives for providing health insurance to employees, tying the
amount of credit directly to wages and employer size.



Employers with fewer than 10 “Full-Time Equivalent” employees (FTEs) and average annual wages of less
than $25,000 receive the full credit.
For employers with fewer than 25 FTEs and average annual wages of less than $50,000, the credit is reduced
per employee as wages and number of employees increase.
Employers with more than 25 FTEs are not eligible for the credit.
In order to be eligible, employers must contribute at least 50% of the total premium cost for each enrolled employee.
This requirement is based on Single coverage only. When an employee has Family coverage, the requirement is met
if the employer pays at least 50% of what Single coverage would cost for that employee. [NOTE: The IRS has
determined the average premium for the small group market to be $5,039 for Single coverage and $12,471 for Family
coverage].
There are two separate phases to the credit, as outlined below:
For the years 2010 – 2013:
 Full credit is 35% of the employer’s contribution to health insurance.
 The credit is claimed on the employer’s annual tax return. It cannot be used to offset payroll taxes.
 The full credit for tax exempt small business is 25% of the employer’s contribution to health insurance.
For the years 2014 and later:
 Full credit is 50% of the employer’s contribution to health insurance.
 Tax exempt small business full credit is 35% of the employer’s contribution to health insurance.
 Qualified insurance will be purchased through an insurance exchange.
 Credit will be limited to two consecutive years.
Our communications will continue as this initial guidance and legislation are subject to change. Additional
information is available on the IRS website at www.irs.gov/newsroom.

Pocono Medical Center to Create the Tom Breslauer Garden of Peace and Healing
Tom Breslauer was a Holocaust survivor who educated hundreds of
students and adults throughout the country and was also very active
in the community. Mr. Breslauer passed away last spring at the age
of 92. Many people will remember Mr. Breslauer by one of his famous quotes, a simple but inspiring message
that reflected his remarkable character, “You must not hate, no matter race, color or religion. You don’t have to
love everybody, but you must respect human life…and don’t smoke!”
The Tom Breslauer Garden of Peace and Healing will be located on the campus of Pocono Medical Center adjacent to
the main lobby. “The garden is being created to honor and remember the life of our dear friend, Tom, whose
tireless commitment to our community and encouraging belief in peace and forgiveness made a positive impact
on many lives,” said Jill Howell, MA, ATR, Medical Art Therapist with Pocono Medical Center. Having a shared
vision for building a healthier, safer, and more peaceful community makes Pocono Medical Center the ideal
location for Tom’s memorial.”
“It is our hope that this garden will be a refuge for those in need of a healing environment, similar to the one
Tom provided for so many.” said Camille Breslauer. Anyone interested in donating to the Tom Breslauer Fund to
help complete this project and fashion a legacy for Mr. Breslauer is encouraged to contact the Pocono Health
Foundation at (570) 476-3530. All donors will be recognized at the unveiling of the Tom Breslauer Garden of Peace
and Healing.
Pocono Health Foundation to Award Over $40,000 in Community Grants and Scholarships
Last month the Pocono Health Foundation (PHF) awarded over $40,000 to nineteen different
community organizations and students. The presentation of these awards was part of PHF’s
eighteenth annual grant reception; inside the Stroud and Brodhead Conference Rooms at
Pocono Medical Center.
The award recipients will include eleven Monroe County community organizations that
provide basic needs and promote health and wellness for local residents. These organizations will be honored
through the generosity of the Dr. Alberta Finch Children’s Health Endowment Fund and the Dr. Claus G. Jordan
Endowment Fund. Three distinguished nursing students from northeastern Pennsylvania nursing schools will
receive scholarships to advance their education and profession as a result of the R. Dale Hughes Nursing Scholarship
Endowment, Jennie Cramer Nursing Scholarship, and Robert A. Gordon Memorial Nursing Scholarship. In addition, one
distinguished Monroe County high school senior will receive a scholarship to pursue their education in a
healthcare-related field through the Dr. Elmo Lilli Memorial Healthcare Scholarship.
Steve Cunningham, Vice President of Public Relations/Marketing & Chief Development Officer of Pocono
Health System/Pocono Medical Center will recognize all of the award recipients at the reception. “I look to
forward to the opportunity to personally congratulate all of the award recipients and thank the students and
community organizations for their compassion and desire to improve the quality of life in our community.”
Olympians in Paupack!
Pike County Area Agency on Aging
On June 4th the Pike County Area Agency on Aging sponsored its first senior field day.
There were 10 competitions in all, from Bocce to Walking competitions. The ages were broken
down as they do in the senior games from 55-64, 65-74, 75-84, and 85+ categories. Volunteers
helped “ref” the events so they were fair and legal. The participants had a great time, there was
only one heated debate and that was over Bocce points. The softball throw and baseball throw
showed surprising prowess.
Gold medals were received by 85+ contender Helen Smith, Bushkill for Bocce, dance, and
beanbag toss. Carmen Tambakis took the silver in dance for the 85+. Donna Wright, Dingmans
Ferry took the gold in the football throw and bocce. John Hahn, Shohola, won in the football
throw, baseball throw. Other gold medalers were: Barbara Schwinn in the beanbag toss and
bingo, and softball throw; Josephine Walton, Bushkill basketball & dance; Charlie McCoy,
Dingman’s Ferry for baseball throw; Lee Spencer, Dingman’s Ferry for beanbag, softball throw;
Peggy Blossom, Shohola for Horseshoes and walking; Gene Castimore, Blooming Grove for
beanbag toss; Antonio Biafora Bocce with Joe Scibetta. Judy Seidel, Lackawaxen took gold home
with her walking, baseball throw, and football throws. Lona Dagutis took gold for dance.
Palmyra Township provided a perfect setting for the “recycled teenagers” as they were called. A
tasty lunch was served by Cherie Bland, Barbara Paschall, and Kevin Wright.
Volunteer judges consisted of Charlotte Bell, Meg Janusewski, Lauren Janusewski, Bea Crosby
and Ed Crosby, and Georgiana Ehrlich. Lana Romeo provided the dance music and bingo calling
with help from Katie Stuccio. AAA Staffers on hand were Barbara Leary, Rene Bernatzky, Betsy
Kirtman, and Director LoDolce.
It was a great day for all competitors, and the Agency is already talking with the school districts
for next year to add events and join forces with the high-schoolers for their expertise. The gold
medal winning playoff winners have the opportunity to travel to York Pennsylvania in July for the
state competition. Good luck to all!
Pioneers! Out of four students chosen by the Wayne
Memorial Hospital Auxiliary to receive nursing
scholarships from local trust funds, three plan to matriculate
at the brand-new nursing program at Wayne Memorial
Hospital (WMH). The program is a collaboration with

confer two-year Associates degrees at the end of the
program to qualified students. Those students will be
eligible to take the registered nurse licensing exam.

CONGRATULATIONS Delaware Valley High School!
Delaware Valley High School was ranked among the best public schools in America according to Newsweek
magazine. Delaware Valley is among the top six percent of the nation’s high schools. DV was one of 29
Pennsylvania schools chosen and ranked 1,531 overall. This was the district’s first selection to the list. DV
hosted a Tuesday media gathering to announce its selection.
Newsweek named Delaware Valley one of the top high schools because of its challenging course load. They
offer students 22 advanced placement classes in everything from math to government. Nearly 40% of
students take at least one A.P. class.
Officials say the ranking will help students get into better colleges and even get more scholarship money, but
also give them a little bragging rights.
