Wapiti Encounters (Elk Hunting & Scouting 101) – 2 Day Course

"Reading the land" Navigation - using maps and GPS
Day 2: Afternoon
Ø Afternoon trail ride: Navigate to scout habitat
Ø Using tracking skills to locate elk.
Ø How to glass for elk
Day3: Morning

Hunting gear (clothing, optics, survival equipment, trail cams)
Firearms or archery equipment
Practice calling techniques
Using scents (attraction and cover)
Day 3: Afternoon
Ø Finding bedding areas, wallows and travel paths
Ø Scouting for elk in evening feeding areas
Day 4: Depart
Participants will need:
1. Water proof hiking shoes & riding boots
2. Camouflage hunting clothing for summer/fall conditions.
3. Elk calls, both cow and bull.
4. Day pack: binoculars, canteen, compass, GPS, fire starter, first aid kit, flashlight
or head lamp, batteries, sun screen, chap stick.
5. Rain gear
6. Scentless soap
7. Sun glasses
8. Optional: Camera, spotting scope
9. Optional: Archery equipment and/or firearms used for elk hunting
Provided by Coulter Lake:
1. Private cabin with all bed linens, towels, soap, etc.

Weofferbotha2daycourseanda4daycourseforyoutochoosefrom.Bothcoursescanbe
customizedtofitwhatyouarelookingtolearn.The2daycourseincludes2fulldaysoftraining,
3nightslodging,andallyourmealswhilethe4daycourseprovides4fulldaysoftraining,5nights
lodging,andallyourmeals.Bothcoursesstartwithdinnerthenightbeforeyourclassesstartand
endafterbreakfastonthedayafteryourtrainingisdone.Bothprogramsincludeallofyour
