Ambassador of Switzerland to Singapore
Dear Students, Dear Parents
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the seventh edition of the Swiss Education Fair.
www.SwissEducationFair.org
Switzerland is one of the world’s leading investors in education
and has a very qualitative educational system.
The various educational strengths that Switzerland has to offer
include globally top ranked public Universities, Universities of
Applied Sciences and Hospitality Schools. Their high quality
and dedicated educational programs have shaped 27 Nobel
Laureates in the past.
Discover various Swiss institutions of higher learning
presenting their outstanding programs, Bachelor and Master
Programs. Meet and speak directly with exchange students
and delegates and get answers to important questions
such as the requirements, application process, future career
opportunities or living in Switzerland.
The institutions present at the Swiss Education Fair 2016 – including Universities, Universities
of Applied Sciences , Hospitality- as well as Boarding Schools – represent Switzerland’s finest
pre- and tertiary educational institutions. All of them command considerable respect among
their global peers.
Switzerland’s educational institutions are the backbone of our society and economy, continually
producing highly skilled individuals whose expertise is sought after around the world. Being one
of the largest investors in education and research worldwide, Switzerland offers opportunities
for personal and professional growth through innovation, diversity and drive for perfection. It
lays emphasis on the exchange of knowledge via its multiple partnerships and collaborations
with world reputable research institutes. The variety of courses and programs equip students
to manage the various challenges of today’s global environment. In multiple professional
areas, from Banking, Pharma, Architecture, Engineering, IT to Hospitality, Alumni from Swiss
institutions face challenges with a solid academic training, a balance of technical and service
oriented skills, along with a passion for details. As these Swiss alumni move on to explore the
professional environment, they all become world citizens engaging with Swiss standards and
innovation spirit.
Singapore and Switzerland have always placed a strong emphasis on the excellence of
its education, and the existing collaborations between both countries are evidences of this
common objective. Furthermore, the recent interest of the Singapore government in the Swiss
dual education system shows that both countries have still very much to share in terms of
education.
Studying in a foreign country is not only an educational experience but also a personal journey.
While educational institutions assist in this endeavor, surroundings and environment also play
a role. As a country, Switzerland offers a wide array of interesting opportunities to learn outside
of a formal school setting. Home to four distinct cultural regions, our small country, nestled
in the heart of Western Europe, is easily explored by public transport. The unrivalled natural
beauty of our lakes, rivers and mountains presents a perfect setting to revitalize one’s mind in
peaceful surroundings. Furthermore, the cultural diversity makes it an enjoyable place to live
and discover new horizons.
For centuries Switzerland has been attracting those eager to learn, excited to explore and
willing to teach. I therefore encourage you to inform yourself, enjoy discovering this multifaceted
country and to make the most of the opportunities presented at the Swiss Education Fair 2016.

The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), in its idyllic location on the shores of Lake
Geneva, brings together a campus of more than 13,000 people. With a novel structure, the school stimulates
collaboration between students, professors, researchers and entrepreneurs. These daily interactions give rise to
new and groundbreaking work in science, technology and architecture. With over 120 nationalities on campus,
more than 50% of the faculty recruited internationally and over 60% of the PhD students originating from abroad,
EPFL is one of the most international universities in the world.
The international outlook – two-thirds of all professors have been recruited from abroad – and the excellent
infrastructure make ETH Zurich the ideal place for creative personalities. Ties to businesses and industries
are very close, the greater Zurich area being the economic center of Switzerland and home to numerous
international companies. Beyond world-class education, Zurich’s attractive urban environment offers many other
highlights: metropolitan flair, excellent sports facilities, an extensive range of cultural and recreational offerings,
and a vibrant night life.
Through the Singapore-ETH Center for Global Environmental Sustainability (SEC), established in 2010, ETH
Zurich has a growing research presence also in Singapore. SEC focuses on research in the area of sustainable
urban planning and construction, and risk and resilience.

The University of Geneva (UNIGE) was founded in 1559, through the initiative of Jean Calvin. It is nestled in the
heart of a city of great international renown and intellectual heritage, and defines itself as a place of reflection,
teaching, and dialogue. With a student body from 150 different countries, the University of Geneva is the second
largest university in Switzerland, and also hosts the largest number of female students.
The university is part of strategic networks of professionals and has developed such partnerships worldwide that
have special benefits for study, teaching and research. It cooperates with universities worldwide in teaching and
research. Students and teachers have many options to study and work on international projects. A permanent
quality control is applied by internal and external evaluation.
Ultra-modern infrastructure is available for all students at all times, such as numerous libraries, reading rooms,
computer rooms, a foreign-language media centre on campus, institutions for social advice, grants, study and
career guidance, housing, psychological counseling, a nursery and spiritual guidance support students in their
day-to-day life. Fribourg is a very young town and an ancient city: young because well over 10,000 of the 70,000
inhabitants are students, and ancient because of its medieval heritage. It is one of Europe’s most beautiful and
best-preserved medieval ensembles. The university students add vibrant rhythm and atmosphere to the town. A
fantastic starting point for excursions, Fribourg and the region are a paradise for sports enthusiasts.

UNIGE comprises nine faculties (Science, Medicine, Arts, Social Sciences, Economics and Management, Law,
Psychology and Educational Sciences, Theology and Translation and Interpreting). There are also several
Interdisciplinary Centres (informatics, neurosciences and environment...). UNIGE offers more than 290 types
of programmes and more than 280 Continuing Education programmes covering an extremely wide variety
of fields such as exact sciences, medicine, humanities, social sciences, economics, law, etc. Its domains of
excellence in research include life sciences (molecular biology, bio-informatics), physics of elementary particles,
and astrophysics. UNIGE leads and co-leads six National Centres of Competence in Research: PlanetS,
SwissMAP, Chemical Biology, Affective Sciences, Synaptic Bases of Mental Diseases and LIVES-Overcoming
vulnerabilities in a life course perspective.
In addition the UNIGE has led the NCCRs Frontiers in Genetics and MaNEP from 2001 to 2013 and have been
integrated into the University.
Just like the city of Geneva itself, the university enjoys a strong international reputation, both for the quality
of its research (it ranks among the top institutions among the League of European Research Universities)
and the excellence of its education. This acclaim has been won in part due to its strong ties to many national
and international Geneva-based organizations, such as the World Health Organization, the International
Telecommunications Union, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the European Organization for
Nuclear Research.

Ideally situated halfway between Geneva and Zurich, the University of Neuchâtel (UniNE) is the perfect place
in the French-speaking area of Switzerland to follow a complete curriculum or undertake high-level research.
UniNE is not an enclosed campus: students and researchers alike live and work in the heart of the city in several
nearby sites and this helps to establish a unique feeling of solidarity and exchange amongst students.
Founded in 1838, the University of Neuchâtel is composed of four faculties – Humanities, Science, Law and
Economics and Business. A human-scaled institution, the University of Neuchâtel welcomes more than 4,300
students (of which 570 are doctoral students each year) from Switzerland and abroad.
UniNE offers five Masters of Science taught in English: Computer Science, Finance, Economics, Statistics,
Cognitive Science. Some other Masters programmes are conducted partially in English: Hydrogeology and
Geothermics, Work and Organizational Psychology, International Business Development, Information systems,
as well as English and American literature and linguistics. FIFA Master, an International MAS in Management,
Law and Humanities of Sport, is also housed partially at UniNE.
The French Language and Civilization Institute (ILCF) is specialized in teaching French as a foreign language.
ILCF courses are designed for foreign students who wish to reinforce and extend their knowledge of the French
language, literature, and civilization. It also offers a four-week summer programme in July.

The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) is one of the nine professional
universities recognised by the Swiss Confederation. Founded under federal law, SUPSI offers more than 30
Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree courses. This year SUPSI counts 3,507 Bachelor, 671 Master and 6,750
Continuing Education students. The four fields of activities are: First level University Degree Courses, Continuing
Education, Research and Services. Great care is given to research, carried out in key sectors on competitively
acquired projects with large European and national agencies or mandated by organisations and institutions.
Drawing inspiration from our guiding values of concreteness, originality, multidisciplinarity, partnership, innovation,
territoriality and internationality, our Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes have been designed with the aim of
combining cutting edge technical-scientific methods with a practical and professional approach, leading to an
internationally recognised university degree. In direct contact with the teaching staff, which consists of professorsresearchers and professionals who conduct established activities outside the university, problems and situations
are tackled in their context, adopting methodologies resembling those to be found after graduation. In order to meet
the growing need for balance between study requirements and work or other commitments, courses are, whenever
possible, also conducted in parallel with professional activity, or in flexibility format.
Since its foundation, SUPSI has completed numerous research projects related mainly to the scientific areas
covered by its didactic programmes. Research is conducted in key sectors by means of projects won in competitions
held by major European and National Agencies, or commissioned by companies and/or institutions. The great
number of applied research projects conducted allows SUPSI to contribute directly to the economic and social
development of the region.

Le Régent College opened its Junior School in September 2015 and its Senior School will commence this
September (2016). Boarding and day students are welcome, aged 5-18, and we teach all classes in English,
following the British national curriculum while tailoring our programme to the needs of international students.
We are able to combine the advatanges of a very experienced staff, who have worked in international education
for a number of years, with all the blessings of brand-new purpose built facilities. Our campus is very compact
with the Junior School, Senior School and Sports hall all in close proximity. Situated in a beautiful, safe and
extremely healthy location in the Swiss Alpes with some of the cleanest air in Europe, we are able to provide the
very best environment to our young people. Pastoral care is one of the key ingredients that creates a successful
boarding school and we pride ourselves in developing a warm and friendly atmosphere where all our students
can feel at home.
A high academic level is one of our primary goals, and it is to be noted that we begin separate sciences from
the age of 9 and teach French and Mandarin as compulsory languages. Our school is governed by four School
Principles: Courtesy, Compassion, Creativity, and Courage. It is a school which treats children as individuals,
supports them and expects them to achieve well in all areas of school life.
Crans-Montana is an exceptionally beautiful and well equipped ski resort which is ideal for both students and
parents alike.
The curriculum is taught in English by native English speaking teachers: British National Curriculum, Common
Entrance, (I)GCSEs, IB diploma. Strong emphasis on languages (including French, Italian, German, Spanish,
and Mandarin), sports (including tennis, golf and skiing), outdoor activities, the arts, and community service.
