Violin and fiddle lessons for students of all abilities and ages. Contact Information Sarah Foard (301) 356-‐2190 [email protected] Location L’Adoré studio is located in the Penrose neighborhood of Arlington, VA: 317 S. Veitch St. Arlington, VA 22204 Calendar The studio operates on a semester schedule. There are 16 lessons in the fall and spring semesters and 6 lessons in the summer session. Please keep the attached calendar as reference for holiday closings and built-‐in make up days. Studio Classes & Recitals There are two studio classes and two recitals per year. All school-‐aged students are required to participate in these events. These classes will be through Levine Music, taught by Sarah Foard. Pricing and payment will go to Levine. Practicing Students are expected to practice at least 30 minutes, five days a week. Practicing ensures that students gain the most from their lessons. Without practicing at home, students will not progress. Parents of young students are asked to attend all lessons, take notes during the lessons, and practice with their children at home. For tips on practicing with your child, read “Helping Parents Practice: Making it Easier” by Edmond Sprunger. Missed Lesson Policy S T U D I O
In the event of any anticipated student absence, please notify L’Adoré Studio in advance. L’Adoré does not offer compensatory lessons or classes for absences and/or missed lessons that occur because students have conflicts, travel out of town, etc. or due to illness. This is in respect for the instructor, who has set aside a specific day and time for each student. This time is reserved. The instructor cannot give the time away to someone else or fill it again. Though many students and families are consistent and reliable about attendance, some are not; this policy ensures that all families, and the instructor, are treated with equal fairness and respect their time. If a lesson or class is cancelled because of a weather-‐related closing or because of an instructor conflict, L’Adoré sets aside certain days each semester as make-‐up days. On these days, there are no regularly scheduled lessons so that the teacher can compensate for such missed lessons. The instructor may choose other days to make up missed lessons or classes outside of the scheduled make-‐up day. If faraway conflicts are known before the beginning of the semester, students may register for one or fewer individual lessons on a pro-‐rated scale. Families may opt to purchase the $30 Make-‐up Lesson Insurance per semester, which will guarantee the student one make-‐up lesson in the event he or she has to miss a regularly scheduled lesson. This lesson will be held either on a make-‐up lesson day or on some other date mutually agreed upon between the teacher and the student. About Sarah Foard S T U D I O
Sarah Foard teaches traditional violin, Suzuki, and fiddle lessons from her home practice, L’Adoré, in Arlington, VA and also at Levine Music in Washington, DC. Together, she maintains a vibrant and full studio of students of all ages and levels. Sarah has studied Suzuki violin pedagogy Rhonda Cole, Christie Felsing, Cathryn Lee, and Ed Sprunger, and traditional pedagogy with Rebecca Henry at the Peabody Institute of Music, Gerald Doan at the Cincinninnati College-‐Conservatory of Music, Mimi Zweig at Indiana University. As a performer, Sarah blends the clean sounds of a classical violinist with the energy of Irish reels and the soul of early American jazz. Sarah began studying the violin at the age of five in Huntington, West Virginia where she practiced violin every day with her great-‐
grandmother and concert pianist, Dede (Mary Shep Mann). Sarah completed a music degree at the University of Cincinnati College-‐Conservatory of Music studying with Patricia Green, Laura Kobayashi, Piotr Milewski, and Rebecca Henry. She has also studied jazz violin with Eddie Drennon and improvisation with Tina Chancey. Sarah has performed at many venues throughout the DC area including the Kennedy Center, the ATLAS Theater, THEARC, and Strathmore Music Center. She now performs regularly with Black Oranges, the Sligo Creek Stompers, and the Bumper Jacksons. In addition to performing and teaching music, Sarah has been a long time advocate of the Alexander Technique. Sarah has studied AT with numerous teachers including Karen Guertler, Cynthia Mauney, Jan Baty, and many more, and she incorporates its principles into her violin teaching.
