Automation Technology
Acquire practical and project-oriented laboratory skills and expertise:
Automation trainers, mechatronics trainers, PLC trainers
Automation technology
Automation technology
Due to the growing importance of process automation the area of automation technology is taking on an ever
greater role in industrial operations. This applies both for standard operations in production as well as for
vocational training. Today automation technology almost always involves drive technology, closed-loop control
and computer engineering. Due to the rapid developments in microcontroller and computer technology,
automation has become one of the most innovative and breathtaking of all the areas of electrical engineering and
electronics. Add to that the fact that novel industrial solutions like decentralisation and visualisation require new
vocational training systems. Furthermore, the hitherto sheer multitude of manufacturer-dependent software
products has been replaced by the international standard IEC1131-3. Contemporary programmable logic
controls will now be programmed in accordance with standardised rules. All of these demands mean that there
is a need to have the automation technician of today trained on practice-oriented training systems which convey
to the student both the latest technology but also endow him or her with the required skills and competency.

Instructions are provided in the form of an Interactive Lab Assistant
course. This multimedia course goes step-by-step through the topic
of PLC programming. Students are introduced in steps to PLC
programming, from the simple operation of a conveyor belt on to
complex sequence control systems. The projects are made simple
to understand thanks to graphic illustrations and animations.
The models are shown in animated form on a touch panel and are
controlled via the digital I/O of the PLC system to which they are
connected. As for genuine models, it is possible to receive the
signals from sensors which can then be used for processing in a
step sequence. The models are already full programmed as
supplied.
Projects included:
Transport crane (step sequence programming for advanced
students)
Road works traffics lights (animated vehicles respond
automatically to the state of the traffic lights)
Container filling plant (process automation of a system with
three tanks)

PLC application models and Process simulators
PLC application models and Process simulators
The objective of PLC training is for the student to acquire practical hands-on skills. The prerequisite for this is
systematic-didactic instruction in both form and content. This allows the necessary knowledge and skills to be
conveyed in a practical, fast, effective and cost-efficient manner. The hands-on oriented experimentation and
training using the process simulators and the process simulations are designed to meet these requirements. As
such these training systems constitute the foundation for teaching not only the fundamentals but also advanced
PLC programming.

CLC 34 PLC universal application simulator
CLC 34 PLC universal application simulator
The PLC universal system simulator was designed especially for PLC basic training. It is compact and
constructed according to the motto "set up, switch on and train". It is exceptionally well-suited to graphically
demonstrate open-loop and closed-loop industrial applications. By using the masks up to 24 different technical
processes and models can be simulated.

CLC 35 Process simulation PRO/TRAIN for Windows
CLC 35 Process simulation PRO/TRAIN for Windows
Effecient and didactically sensible training on the highly complex production systems found in industry is only
feasible to some extent in automation technology. Thus training systems must be used which graphically
demonstrate system interdependencies and that can be explored by the student without directly affecting the
production process. PRO/TRAIN for Windows is a training system which allows various automated processes to
be depicted and simulated at a work station for practical hands-on experimentation.
The training system consists of software, hardware and teachware. The software simulates and graphically
depicts typical, technological processes, machines and drives on a PC. The software models are graphically
detailed and realistically depicted both in terms of design as well as operating response. For each model there
is the possibility of performing process analysis in demonstration mode. Malfunctions are realistically simulated
in the process simulations for practical experience and can be initiated randomly or simulated by the user using
the keyboard. Control errors are identified and logged by the software. The switches and pushbuttons needed to
operate the models are already integrated into the respective simulations. The use of real hardware for operation
and monitoring, e.g. an Operator Panel, is easily integratable. The I/O interface connects the PC via the serial
interface using the signal inputs and outputs of a PLC control unit. As such process models with digital
actuators and sensors as well as analog final control elements and signal generators can be connected and
controlled. The actuators incorporated in the model can be controlled directly by the PLC and the switching
states of the signal generators are transmitted to the PLC. The signal level for connection to the PLC has been
selected so that any given industrial-type PLC can be connected to the interface. The input and output signals of
the process are accessible on the interface and can be checked by means of electronic measurement. Each
model package has an in-depth, state-of-the-art online help using browser technology. These contain general
descriptions of the simulation models, control exercises as well as sample PLC programs. The control programs
are generally applicable system function charts documented in accordance with the IEC-1131 standard. The
input and output signals are outlined in the statement lists and IQF reference lists. This guarantees simple
translation into the respective programming language.

CLC 36 Closed-loop liquid level control/ flow-rate control
"Closed-loop liquid level control" is a practice-oriented experiment set in applied control technology designed
especially for didactic purposes. Due to immediate, visible nature of the controlled variable, i.e. "the level of the
liquid", liquid level control is an extremely graphic experiment and is thus particularly well suited for an
introduction into automatic control technology. The controlled system or liquid level basin is characterised by
the fact that it has a medium response time. Thus experiments can be performed rapidly and the student can
simultaneously monitor how the experiment is proceeding. The experiments focus on determining the most
important parameters of controlled systems with compensation and the set-up and optimisation of control loops
with continuous and discontinuous controllers. The liquid level basin has a plain form on which the foils can be
attached to facilitate the marking of the liquid level as a function of time. The character of the controlled system
can be modified by using various sliding partitions (delays of the 1st and 2nd order). 4 different outlet drains can
be set on the filling basin and the inlet can be set as desired either using an ascending pipe or versus the filling
pressure. Because of its modular design, the training system can, with the corresponding supplements, also be
used for automatic flow-rate control and to explore measuring techniques.

39 Compact level control kit including vessel, tank, pump and sensors CO3620-1H
1
The filling level measurement training system is for experiments in
automatic control technology that are both educational and based on
practice. Liquid level and flow can both be measured with one
instrument.
Since the controlled variable, the height of liquid in the vessel is
clearly visible, it makes the experiment easy to observe and makes
for a good introduction to automatic control technology. The compact
educational apparatus includes the vessel to be filled, a pressure
transducer to determine the current filling height and a separate
reservoir and pump.
So that the pump achieves constant pumping power, a secondary
control loop with a flow rate meter which can shut off the system as
necessary is integrated into the set-up. Disturbance variables can be
simulated by means of adjustable throttle valves that alter the flow
rate to and from the vessel. Quick-release plugs are available for
connecting an optional second vessel in order to create a second
order controlled system.

Operating and Monitoring
Operating and Monitoring
Continuously simplifying the ever more complex is our motto. Processes are becoming multilayered, the
demands made on machine and system functionality are becoming greater. Today, what the machine operator
has to know and see is vast. For that reason the Human Machine Interface (HMI) has to provide him with the
optimum transparency. A whole new technology has emerged in the automated world of production; a
technology which is gaining in significance. Operating and monitoring are essential in mastering a process and
translate into both availability and productivity. The operating and monitoring training system gives the student
an opportunity to gain insight into HMI technology. But advanced users are also able to profit from the simple
text display provided by the Operator Panel and to train aspects of technology reaching all the way to PC-based
HMI software.

CBS 1 Industrial bus systems
CBS 1 Industrial bus systems
It is vital to know about the most important industrial bus systems. With this compact set, you can learn about
project planning for three different bus systems and how they are used. It is not only the extensive theoretical
background but also the detailed experiment instructions which offer a thorough exploration of these bus
systems.
You will start with direct communication via the I/O of a PLC system. A conveyor belt will then be connected to
an AS-i bus to provide an introduction to bus systems in general. The bus system which is most widely used in
industry, PROFIBUS, is dealt with second, while the concluding section is formed by a conveyor belt control
system implemented in PROFINET.
This means that a single system is controlled via four different means of communication.

64 PROFIBUS to PROFINET converter
The PROFIBUS to PROFINET converter integrates any given
PROFIBUS-DP-Slave into the PROFINET. The converter operates as
a standard PROFINET-IO device and maps the process data of the
PROFIBUS slaves 1 to 1 on the Ethernet. The available GSDML-file
makes the controller configuration tool integration child’s play. The
24 V supply voltage is tapped from the DP-Slave power supply.
If every Profibus-Slave is equipped with a converter, the entire system
can be connected via Profinet.

CLP 20 Open-loop control of drive systems
CLP 20 Open-loop control of drive systems
Today automation technology is becoming more and more tied up with drive technology. Concurrently
programmable logic controls are normally used as the overriding control system. In addition to the possibility of
controlling the drive amplifier via digital and analog inputs and outputs, the use of a fieldbus even provides the
possibility of having the process data and parameters read from or written into the drive amplifier.

The areas of electrical machines, power electronics and drive
technology pose particular problems for measuring instruments. In
addition to high-performance overload protection, the acquisition of
measurement values must be performed accurately independently of
