“Women on Board“ matters
The EWMD experts’ group “EWMD women on board” successfully continued
the work flow exchange. A second meeting took place in Zurich in February
addressing the board´s role in risk management, audit committee work and
executive compensation. The next work flow meeting will take place on the 4th
of June 2016 in Hamburg, Germany. Are you interested in joining the experts’
group or to find out more about it?
Then take a look at the working group on the website in the international
network section (see: www.ewmd.org/workgroup/14937). Send a message to
the international office to add your e-mail to the mailing list:

The call for applications for the EWoB Mentoring programme clearly showed
that the topic is extremely relevant for our network. Many members have already
shown great interest in it. Two mentors and two mentees may participate in the

EWoB Mentoring programme on behalf of EWMD. On the 4th of March 2016,
all EWoB program mentors and mentees from across Europe met in Brussels.
Mentors and mentees will continue the exchanges until the end of October. The
mentoring programme is not only a chance for the participants, but, also for
EWMD as a network to link up to other organisations Europe wide. Kris Hauf
and Gudrun Timm, co-leaders of the EWoB contributing membership, made
use of the opportunity to strengthen the connections between both networks
during this meeting in Brussels. Watch www.ewmd.org/workgroup/14937 for
infos re. the launch of the European database set up by EWoB, the EWoB
X-BBRW Network. News to follow soon!

NEWS FROM THE NETWORK
EWMD goes Europe
As EWMD is not present everywhere in Europe, diversification of countries
is one of the main priorities of our association’s future. In concrete terms, in
2016, EWMD will start up in Benelux, Spain, UK and France. In the Benelux,
namely Brussels, a series of networking events and establishing contacts is
on the way. The first Ladies Lunch of EWMD Benelux was hosted by Kris Hauf
and Gudrun Timm in Brussels in March when attending the EWoB event. Kris
and Gudrun could establish some new contacts and met promising partner
institutions. The next opportunity for networking in Brussels is May 27th,
when the international board will meet in Brussels. The evening event gives
interested guests the chance to learn more about EWMD and the network. A
week before Tatiana Tarasova, from our Corporate Member TÜV Rheinland
will speak at the international conference on the topic “Corporate Universities:
Advancing Executive Learning” in Barcelona.

NEWS FROM THE NETWORK
EWMD goes Europe
EWMD uses this excellent opportunity to invite interested manager for a
networking event in the evening of May 20th in Barcelona. Separate invitations
have already been sent out to EWMD members for both events in May. If you
know people who may be interested in the EWMD network, please invite them
to the events.
We have already started preparations for a learning journey to France in 2017.
The aim is to establish new contacts in France through the learning journey.
The same steps will be taken for the UK. Originally EWMD targeted to have the
AGM in the end of 2016 in the UK in combination with an attractive networking
event. As the networking event in the UK was not feasible this year, the UK will
be postponed to 2017 and well prepared in 2016. The International Conference
and AGM will be from 11 to 13 of November in Italy, the city will be confirmed
soon.

D&I Forum: “Changing leadership:
how does it work in a part-time position?“
at TÜV Rheinland
EWMD D&I Forum provides a platform for companies to present and discuss
general trends and developments as well as specific experiences with diversity
management tools, programs and projects. Getting new impulses, exchanging
ideas and learning from each other are key goals of the Forum. On the 9th of
June the EWMD Corporate Member TÜV Rheinland together with EWMD invites
you to the D&I Forum on the topic “Changing leadership: how does it work in
a part-time position?”. Managers are supposed to work in full-time positions.
However, full-time positions sometimes do not meet the requirements and
necessities of a diverse workforce. In the face of these trends, more and more
companies develop new approaches as to how leadership roles can be fulfilled
without a full-time position. This issue will be addressed in the D&I Forum
at the TÜV Rheinland headquarter in Cologne. Christiane Flüter-Hoffmann,
Senior Researcher at the German Institute for Economy, will introduce the
topic from a scientific perspective, while Katrin Peplinski will present a bestpractice example from ERGO Insurance. EWMD Corporate Members are invited
to discuss and exchange experiences with experts and interested guests from
different companies and industries.

Corporate Member Workshop
“Virtual Cooperation”
August 26, 2016 in Essen
The digital transformation changes team work and work processes and
requires new competences from managers. Managers face the challenge
to achieve good results with diverse teams which are distributed across
different countries or even time zones. Few companies train their managers
systematically for virtual leadership. EWMD invites Corporate Members to the
workshop on virtual cooperation on the 26th of August in Essen. The workshop
gives an introduction into the potentials of virtual cooperation. Participants
will learn about digital tools and how virtual communication works best. The
presentation of best practices and practical exercises to increase the output of
virtual teams complete the workshop. Katrin Neuendorf and Alexandra Altmann,
both experts in virtual leadership and team work, facilitate the workshop.

EWMD Germany Conference 2016
“Management 4.0”
August 27, 2016 in Essen
EWMD Germany invites members and guests to the German conference
“Management 4.0“ from August 26-28, 2016 in Essen. The digital
transformation from the industrial to the digital era is in process. Industrial
countries have started to invest technology and research into what is known
as the fourth economic revolution. The German government actively seeks to
promote this development and approved the Digital Agenda in 2014 which will
be implemented together with the business community, the social partners,
civil society and universities. The transformation is affecting all industries and
services. Existing business models will change; new business approaches will
occur. What does this mean for the management of the companies? Central
questions which will be addressed at the conference are:
• What kinds of managers are needed to lead through this process?
• What are the future requirements for managers?
• Are there any role models female manager in particular can lean on?
• Is Germany behind the development compared to other countries?
These questions will be discussed with experts and practitioners at the
conference. Attendees will also have enough time for networking and exchange
at the conference. A guided tour through the former coal mine plant completes
the weekend.

Bodenseegespräche
(Lake Constance Talks) 2016
The Bodensee Gespräche (Lake Constance Talks) is a German speaking*
gathering of members (max. 30) which takes place annually in one of the
three participating member countries, CH, A or D depending on whose turn
it is to organise it. As the numbers of participants are limited, members
are able to delve deeply into a given topic and really have the opportunity to
air their feelings openly or in a small group in beautiful surroundings. This
year, it is the German chapter’s turn to organise the meeting and they have
chosen the topic “Shaping the Future at Eye Level” with the guidance of two
experienced speakers, Elisabeth Grebe and Cornelia Walter. Elisabeth is an
experienced Business Coach and Mentor with over 20 years of experience as
Chief Procurement Officer in international technological companies. Cornelia,
has worked internationally for years in diverse areas of health and education
and currently works as a freelance organisation and personnel developer in
various companies, focussing on demographic staffing policies, globalisation

“Donate your Experience!” – Webinars
and seminars from members to
members
“Donate your Experience!” - is an EWMD International initiative promoting
and highlighting the expertise of our members. The experts donate their time
and expertise for webinars and seminars that are marketed by EWMD. The
participation fees which are lower than usual in the market go to EWMD for
future projects and initiatives. EWMD Italy ensured the successful initiation,
in 2015, with a seminar on “Smart Leadership” in Brescia. This year, EWMD
has continued the series with the webinar “Virtual Leadership”, led by Katrin
Neuendorf with the participation of 20 members and guests. The next webinar
will be “Visual communication of data and expert knowledge” on the 26th of
April at 19:00 (CET) carried out by Annette Hexelschneider. People who like to
learn more about this issue can also join the seminar with Annette in Salzburg
on the 25th of June.

NEWSFLASH FROM
Helen Macfarlane in the USA
The US electoral campaigns are full in swing and things are certainly heating up
beyond hot! You can imagine my surprise when I bumped into Hillary out and
about the other day! Hillary? Well not THE Hillary, but the best impersonator of
her: actress, writer radio host and comedienne extraordinaire, Marianne Curan
who is Just Like Hillary
Marianne has studied Hillary over many years and knows her inside and out!
This is why her impersonations are so convincing. I was interested to know
more about her feelings towards women in politics and Hillary’s chances of
winning the election, making her the first female president of the USA. And,
how does she keep people laughing at times when there does not seem to be
much to laugh about?

NEWSFLASH FROM
Helen Macfarlane in the USA
HM: What made you start impersonating Hillary Clinton?
MC: I was working in a very popular sketch comedy show in Washington,
DC, called Gross National Product. We were much like Chicago’s famous
“Second City” or Los Angeles’ “Groundlings” but we had more of a topical
focus on news, issues and politics. When the Clintons came into town I started
impersonating Hillary. I was always doing character voices and impersonating
people so mimicking a public figure came naturally. And, there was a lot of
natural material there!
HM: Do you think Hillary will win? Do you think bad press and Hillary’s mistakes
in the past will overshadow the positive side of her career and ruin her chances
of winning?
MC: I think if either Trump or Cruz gets the GOP nomination and Hillary the
Democratic nod she will win. Sadly, even if she does win, she will be even
more hated and vilified by the right because of this embarrassing election
process. And, I know there are many Democrats/Independents who might not
give their Sanders vote to her. Crazy, crazy time.
HM: What effect do you think a female president will have on the USA…the
world?
MC: It’s about goddamned time “the leader of the free world nation” got over
gender, race, religion and elected the most qualified “person” to lead our
country, our legislatures, our courts, our workplaces, our schools. If Hillary
gets elected I hope the important issues don’t get sidetracked by electing the
“1st Woman President.” But, I know they will. The US is so far behind in electing
female leaders. Focusing on gender vs. governance is such an archaic notion
to me…but, sadly, not to the “thugs” and “morons” voting for Trump.
HM; Where have you performed most recently? Do you also impersonate other
celebrities and also perform at conventions or in other business environments?

NEWSFLASH FROM
Helen Macfarlane in the USA
MC: I have been doing a live morning drive radio show in Cincinnati with my
husband, Bob Goen, for almost four years. “Hillary” pops into the show from
time to time. I used to be a regular featured performer as Hillary on Jay Leno’s
“Tonight Show” (as well as “Martha Stewart” and “Sarah Palin.”) My most
recent appearance as “Hillary” was on an ESPN pre Super Bowl show with
Frank Calends who is a renowned impersonator and comic.
HM: Sometimes there does not seem to be much to laugh at anymore with
all the controversy in these electoral campaigns however, humor is a great
vehicle for transporting serious messages. How do you keep people laughing?
MC Even the worst circumstances need “comic relief.” Political issues are
especially difficult as both sides are so emotionally attached (re: the violence
at Trump rallies, Hillary’s emails.) In the 20+ years I’ve been spoofing the
news/politics etc., I have never seen a more difficult environment for spoofing
an election. The stakes are so high in terms of ISIS, the economy, jobs,
immigrations, healthcare, etc. and the candidates are like a clown car meets a
train wreck. It’s hard to find the funny when so many Americans are desperate
for a better life. Yet, somehow, with every administration and topics I’ve
spoofed the punch line is there. This is going to be a challenge…
HM: Do you think Trump stands a chance of winning the election? What will
you do if he does?
MC: Hillary was supposed to be a sure win in 2008. That didn’t happen. So I
won’t make predictions. To be honest, if Trump shows any possibility of living
in our precious White House I don’t know what I’ll do. It’s “TrumpPocalypse” as
far as I can tell. I will hopefully move to Italy, grow my own tomatoes and eat
pasta every day.
