Greetings From Our Episcopal Leaders
“But even there, if you seek GOD, your GOD, you’ll be able to find Him if you're
serious, looking for Him with your whole heart and soul.” (Deuteronomy 4:29)
The Steinway Piano is considered by many to be the best in the world. The manufacturing process for each piano takes
almost a year and many of the employees have been doing the same job for more than 25 years. Even after all those
years, doing the same job, the craftsmen and women are fully engaged in their work and remain truly urgent in striving
for excellence. When asked how they remain urgent and engaged they said:
•
•
•
•
No piano is ever built the same way twice.
I am always learning something new.
I work for an amazing company and I’m an important part of it.
There is no one else who can do what I do.
Imagine if each of us cultivated this same attitude in what we did for Christ and His Church. Think of the difference in
our homes, our churches, and our communities, if we did everything as an offering unto GOD, always doing so with
our whole hearts and souls.
• Whatever I do, it is a unique opportunity to glorify GOD. Nothing in ministry is built the same way
twice.
• I desire to always learn something new.
• I work for Christ, the AME Zion Church, and my local congregation. That’s an amazing privilege and I’m
a valuable part of it.
• GOD has created me with unique gifts, a unique personality, and a unique perspective. I am
“fearfully and wonderfully made!” There is no else who can do what I do like I do it.
That’s the type of Lifestyle Stewardship that brings glory to GOD and grows the church. Lifestyle Stewardship rejects
this culture of individualism and mediocrity. Rather than becoming hoarders of GOD’s blessings, we become conduits,
allowing what the Lord has given us to flow through us to bless others.
What is your attitude about how you offer your talents, treasure, time, and temple (your body, mind, and spirit) to
GOD? Do you consider yourself an owner instead of a steward? Are you constantly trying to do and give only what
you feel you must? Or do you give, work, serve, love, EXTRAVAGANTLY?
The Rev. Dr. Benjamin Elijah Mays, mentor to Dr. Martin Luther King, stated;
“The tragedy of life is often not in our failure, but rather in our complacency; not in our doing too
much, but rather in our doing too little; not in our living above our ability, but rather in our living
below our capacities.”
It is our prayer that we will have a powerful ENCOUNTER with GOD this week. May the preaching, teaching, worship,
and fellowship inspire us to a greater commitment to Stewardship as Holy Living and Heart-filled Giving.
Blessings and love always,
Bishop & Mrs. W. Darin Moore, Episcopal Leadership of the
Western Episcopal District

It is like the precious ointment upon the head,
that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard:
that went down to the skirts of his garments;
As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the
mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing,
Even life for evermore.

Praise Him! Praise Him!
Fanny J. Crosby
(1) Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer! Sing, O Earth, His wonderful
love proclaim! Hail Him! Hail Him! Highest archangels in glory; Strength and honor give
to His holy Name!
Like a shepherd, Jesus will guard His children, In His arms He carries them all day long:
Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness. Praise Him! Praise Him!
Ever in joyful song!
(2) Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer! For our sins He suffered, and
bled, and died. He our Rock, our hope of eternal salvation, Hail Him! hail Him! Jesus the
Crucified.
Sound His praises! Jesus who bore our sorrows, Love unbounded, wonderful, deep and
strong. Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness.
Praise Him! Praise Him!
Ever in joyful song!
(3) Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer! Heav'nly portals loud with
hosannas ring! Jesus, Savior, reigneth forever and ever.
Crown Him! Crown Him! Prophet, and Priest, and King!
Christ is coming! over the world victorious,
Power and glory unto the Lord belong.
Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness. Praise Him! Praise Him!
Ever in joyful song!
Praise Him, Praise Him is one of Fanny Crosby’s most well-known and well-loved Hymns. She
wrote many hymns to lift spirits and convey God’s message to those who struggled. She was
incredibly prolific, producing perhaps as many as 9,000 hymns in her lifetime, a rate that some
say included composition of six or seven songs per day in some periods.
Her aggregate output should be thought of as a reflection of the depth of feelings – her gratitude
toward God could not be contained in just a few words. Blind since the age of six weeks old, she
struggled with the loss of her only child, which some say may have spurred her toward reflective
behavior and writing of hymns.
She was a Methodist, and attended the Chelsea Methodist Episcopal Church in New York City,
while also reportedly a member of the John Street Methodist Episcopal Church in NYC. She was
also aware of the February 1869 dedication of the Nostrand Avenue M. E. Chapel, at the corner
of Nostrand Avenue and Quincy Street in Brooklyn, so maybe her hymn flourishes also served to
supply new and growing churches with praise material.

Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah
William Williams
Guide me, O thou great Jehovah, Pilgrim through this barren land; I am weak, but thou art mighty; Hold
me with thy powerful hand; Bread of heaven, bread of heaven, Feed me till I want no more.
Open now the crystal fountain, Whence the healing stream doth flow; Let the fire and cloudy pillar Lead
me all my journey through; Strong Deliv'rer, strong Deliv'rer, Be thou still my strength and shield
When I tread the verge of Jordan Bid my anxious fears subside; Death of death, and hell's destruction,
Land me safe on Canaan's side; Songs of praises, songs of praises, I will ever give to thee.
This hymn was written in Welsh by a Methodist preacher William Williams, a pioneering
hymnist who (some say) did for Wales what Wesley and Watts did for England. It is one of
the greatest of evangelical hymns, mainly because of its understatement. Williams' words
have been much admired for their plain yet majestic dignity. 'The grandest re-enactment in
modern hymnody of the Israelite journey through the barren wilderness to the Promised
Land. This hymn was sung at the Princess of Wales's (Princess Diane) funeral in 1997.
O How I Love Jesus
Frederick Whitfield
1. There is a Name I love to hear, I love to sing its worth; It sounds like music in my ear,
The sweetest Name on earth.
Refrain:
Oh, how I love Jesus, Oh, how I love Jesus,
Oh, how I love Jesus, Because He first loved me!
2.
It tells me of a Savior’s love, Who died to set me free; It tells me of His precious blood, The sinner’s
perfect plea.
Refrain:
3. It tells of One whose loving heart Can feel my deepest woe; Who in each sorrow bears a part That
none can bear below.
Refrain:
The greatest love of all is the Love of Christ for each of us. The love that would cause Jesus to leave the
beauty and glory of heaven to come to this earth to give His life for us, even while we were yet deep in sin.
And it is because of that love that we desire to love Him more each day. "We love Him because He first
loved us." (I John 4:19).
The power of Jesus’ name is a theme that has many biblical sources, but perhaps none more important
than Philippians 2:5-11: “Have this mind in you, which is also in Christ Jesus” - and concludes, “that at
the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, in heaven and on earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ
is Lord”.
The writer of this hymn, Frederick Whitfield was born and reared in England and was graduated from
Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. He studied for the ministry and was ordained in the Church of England.
He wrote this hymn in 1855 while still a student at Trinity College. He published about 30 volumes of prose
and verse, and a couple of his songs can be found in some hymnals today. But most familiar to us is "O
How I Love Jesus"; it is characterized by simplicity and a lilting style, the tune used here is typical of camp
meeting songs that emerged in America in the early 19th century. It's a simple song with a deep meaning.
