Street Name changes throughout Rouyn-Noranda
Since the merging of the surrounding areas to Rouyn-Noranda we
have all been expecting that some
streets names would have to
change.
How many rue Principale’s
can one city have??
Within the district of RouynNoranda itself we are pretty lucky
and only 8 streets will be changing
names. 1) ave Dubois 2) chemin

Desabrais 7) rue du Ruisseau 8)

Dave Keon Arena Enlargement Project: The majority of businesses
are now behind the project.
Rouyn-Noranda, 8 February 2007- In accordance with the
agreement made in order to join their efforts to carry out the
enlarging of the arena Dave-Keon, the City of Rouyn-Noranda is
happy to announce that the Huskies have reached the first
stage with brilliance, by collecting the signatures of more than
60 % of business people of Rouyn-Noranda.
Remember that 2 333 000 $ will be financed by business
taxes. For this purpose, the Huskies had the responsibility of
obtaining an agreement of at least 787 companies who pay
business taxes within the city’s territory.
The project; evaluated at 10 M$ should be financed, in equal parts, by the three levels of government (federal, provincial and municipal). The City is responsible for writing the application request to
the governments, so far they have applied to the Ministry for Education, Leisure and the Sport.
Mayor Caouette stated: "It goes without saying
that the deputy of Rouyn-Noranda / Témiscamingue is now in the heart of the matter. Knowing his
eagerness to defend the files of his district, we are
confident to have an ambassador within the
governmental system" Very happy with the support shown so far for this project – the Mayor
added: "Of course, the project is not guaranteed
yet, there remain; still several stages to be completed, but the ball has been launched".

Meeting with Premier Charest
Your Chairperson Mitch, your Community
Coordinator Sharleen, and their spouses
were invited to a 5 to 7 where Premier
Charest was speaking. We are happy to report that he was aware of our presence in
the hall—and at the completion of his
speech he made a deliberate effort to shake
our hands and speak to us in English!

Têtes à Claques
If you have even one French friend you have heard of
Têtes à Claques which is a Quebec humour website.
Over one million short videos are watched per day!
The characters are all made of modelling clay, and are
fairly simplistic. Michel Beaudet creates the figures
himself, and superimposes his own moving eyes and
mouth on their faces using a computer. This gives them
their very ugly appearance. In addition, Beaudet has a
box of fake, grotesque teeth, which he puts in while his
face is being filmed. The phrase tête à claques translates loosely as "a face so ugly, you want to slap it".
Work is underway to convert Têtes à Claques to formats for cell phones and iPods. There are also plans to
make a DVD in time for Christmas 2007 and Beaudet
has recently admitted that making English versions of
the comedy shorts is in his "game plan”. On February
1, 2007, Têtes à Claques announced a partnership with
Bell Canada to provide videos and other media on Bell
Mobility, Sympatico and ExpressVu service
