Foot Washing
The foot washing on Holy Thursday may
seem somewhat anachronistic. The church
has kept it in the liturgy for good reason. As
Christ washed the feet of his disciples at the
Last Supper, emphasizing for them the
connection between Eucharist and service to others, this ritual
remains in our liturgy for the same reason. It is to emphasize
that Eucharist is not separate from service, but that they are
inextricably bound together. Part of the nature of receiving Holy
Communion is acknowledging that we are intimately connected
to one another and responsible for one another’s well-being.
The essential nature of Holy Communion is unity, not only with
God, but also with one another. This is to be demonstrated
through service.

forget to stop by.
Gluten Sensitivity and Holy Communion
At St. Mark the Evangelist we keep on hand a
limited amount of low-gluten Hosts made by the
Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Missouri. They are an approved and recommended
purveyor by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
These Consecrated low-gluten Host may be received only from
the Presiding Priest at Sunday or weekday Masses in the main
sanctuary. It is also necessary that you have a valid medical diagnosis that prohibits receiving the regular Hosts and the recommendation of a doctor. We keep a very limited number of these
Hosts on hand at any one time. It is also helpful to inform the
Presiding Priest before Mass begins that you will need the
reduced or low-gluten Host. We do not send these to the back of
Church at Communion time. You must come forward to receive.
Knights of Columbus Easter Egg Hunt
March 29
The KOC Squires Circle is sponsoring an
Easter Egg Hunt after the 9AM and 10:30AM
Masses on Sunday, March 29 for the children of the parish. Please plan to take your
children (8 and under) to the athletic fields behind the Lion’s
Lair Gym (formerly the Old Gym) to participate in the search
for Easter eggs. Why are we doing this before Easter? Because
we are anticipating the Resurrection and this is a fun reminder
of the glorious things to come!

Dear families,
Palm Sunday is March 29 this year, next Sunday! You can begin a
new tradition with your family this year: the placing of palms.
The palms we receive at Mass on Palm Sunday are blessed. Fr.
Cliff, Fr. Jack and Fr. Henry bless them in a prayer that asks for
God’s grace so that our entire lives and everything we do might
acclaim Jesus as Messiah.
Attend Mass together as a family on Palm Sunday. After Mass,
reverently carry your blessed palms into your home. Have family
members take pieces of blessed palms throughout the house
and place them with holy pictures, crucifixes, and other sacred
items.
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week.

The Church encourages us to make confession a regular part of
our spiritual life, especially during Lent, as we reflect on our
baptism and repentance. Bishop Kevin J. Farrell is helping to
make this experience possible by arranging for a Lenten initiative
called The Light Is ON For You. On March 25th and April 1st, all
parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Dallas will have their "lights
on" for confession and quiet prayer so that Catholics can come to
to this incredible source of God’s grace, mercy and healing.
"Don't be afraid of Confession. When you go into a confessional,
you have so many emotions, including shame. But afterwards
you feel free, great, beautiful and forgiven ... Each one of you
should ask yourselves: When was the last time I went to Confession? If a lot of time has passed, then don't let another day go by.
Go forward."
