All About Italy
Consciously or unconsciously, we all live the Italian lifestyle. Our clothes are either Italian or are somehow
influenced by Italian designers. We all have had some pasta and pizza, perhaps even regularly. And our
favorite coffees have Italian brands and served at Italian cafes! It’s a lifestyle that we have lived and it is
all worth celebrating.
To do that, and in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relationship between Italy
and Indonesia, Pacific Place collaborated with the Embassy of Italy to Indonesia, Italian Trade Agency,
and Bank BRI to present Buongiorno Italia. Held from 8 October 2014 to 2 November 2014, the festival
put together Italian lifestyle products that represent the best of the country’s design, craftsmanship,
and engineering. They were shown all over the mall on exhibitions, from fashion, automotive, furniture,
culinary, to the history of coffee culture in Italy.

Alfa Romeo and Fiat
Representing the unparalleled speed and style
of Italian automotive industry are Lamborghini,
Vespa, Alfa Romeo, and Fiat. Lamborghini Jakarta
featured the new Huracan and the limited edition
50th Anniversary Aventador in a limited edition
yellow. Meanwhile, Vespa showed their latest and
most modern lineup of scooters, from Primavera
to Bellisima. And making a comeback to Jakarta,
also with their newest speedster, are cult-favorite
Alfa Romeo and Fiat.
On a different side of the mall, Espresso Italiano
exhibition provided visitors with an insight into
the rich history of Italian coffee culture that is
centered on coffee machines. The brainchild
of H.E. Federico Failla, the Ambassador of Italy
to Indonesia, who himself is passionate about
coffee, the exhibition depicted the history and
evolution of coffee machines, including the ways
and the contexts they were used in. Best of all,
visitors got an up close look at coffee machines
from different eras, including ones that date back
to centuries ago. Centuries later, their legacy is
celebrated on every corner of the globe, with
people ordering cappuccinos as part of their
daily meal.

SIXTY YEARS
OF STYLE
The Inaguration of 60 Years Of Made In Italy
Italian fashion today is a global force,
demanded by customers and revered
by fashion industry players all over the
world. Anyone who calls himself a fashion
enthusiast can correctly pronounce names
like Roberto Cavalli, Valentino, and Prada.
But what marked the beginning of Italian
fashion and how did it evolve through the
decades? That story can be seen from 60
Years of Made In Italy, a global-scale fashion
exhibition that was a part of Buongiorno
Italia and held from 8 October 2014 – 23
October 2014.
Curated by Studio Galgano, the exhibition featured 30 historical dresses, including alta moda (Italian
haute couture) and runway collection from national couturier, like Franco Ciambella, Gattinoni, and
Emilio Schuberth, to global brands, such as Etro, Fendi, and Gucci. Some of the dresses were once worn
by movie stars, including Milla Jovovich in Prada, Jennifer Lopez in Versace, and Sophia Loren in Giorgio
Armani. Others even appeared in movies, like a dress by Sorelle Fontana that appeared in both 1954’s
The Barefoot Contessa and Federico Fellini’s legendary La Dolce Vita.
Diverse they may be in terms of aesthetic and silhouette; the dresses are unified by an almost peerless
level of craftsmanship and quality that has commanded the attention and awe of global clientele for
decades. Even in the simplest dress, that level of craftsmanship and quality was not compromised. Not
60 years ago and certainly not today.

Ramen
Jakarta’s culinary obsession with ramen is finally
complete with the arrival of Ippudo. Established
in 1985 in Hakata, the capital of ramen in Japan,
Ippudo now operates over 80 outlets nationally
and 40 more around the globe. The founder, Mr.
Shigemi Kawahara, was crowned as the Ramen
King in 2005 after winning a reputable ramen
competition in the country for three consecutive
years.
So, what makes Ippudo’s ramen so special?
Essentially, it combines a rich and flavorful
tonkotsu broth with delicate hand-pulled noodles
made from a secret recipe. With “secret” being the
keyword, it is best to try the ramen yourself to find
out why many people have dubbed it “cosmos in
a bowl.”

create his groundbreaking theory out of thin air. It
was attained after countless experiments, sustained
by supports from peers and institutions. Young
fashion designers, too, need the same support to
mature up and maybe then be hailed as the next
Alexander McQueen or Miuccia Prada. Enter Fashion
Lab, a collaborative project between Galeries
Lafayette and Indonesia Fashion Forward to give
young Indonesian designers precisely that kind of
institutional and public support, as a stepping stone
in their careers.

Inspired by similar program initiated in 2004 by Galeries Lafayette
Berlin, Fashion Lab in Indonesia provides a space on the 2nd floor of
Galeries Lafayette Jakarta dedicated to showcase and sell the designs
of young Indonesian designers. Nine designers are featured in this
pilot project, namely fbudi, JII by Gloria Agatha, Major Minor, Monday
to Sunday, Monstore, Patrick Owen, Tex Saverio, Toton, and Yosafat Dwi
Kurniawan. Their collections are available until 9 November 2014 and
there is something for every personality, style, and budget.
