Army Sgt. Aaron Hale and his family get a place designed just for them

ANTA ROSA BEACH
— As the front door
swung open, Army Staff
Sgt. Aaron Hale paused
a moment on the stoop for his
wife Kelly to peer into their new
home. Kelly took in the new furniture and renovations, and a smile
spread across her face.
“Oh my gosh!” she said before
clapping a hand over her mouth
and wiping her feet on the new
mat.
“Everyone wiped their feet,
right?” Aaron joked as he hurriedly wiped his own.
Hundreds of friends, family,
well-wishers and dignitaries from
the military and local community
welcomed the Hale family to their
newly renovated, mortgage-free
home Saturday, April 6.
“This is the most beautiful
crowd I have ever seen,” Kelly
said minutes earlier.
People began gathering outside the house Saturday morning, with shuttles bringing many
them to Pelican Bay Drive in
Santa Rosa Beach.

throughout training.
Combat operations were
not the only focus of this
training; the battalion support section provided over
40,000 meals to forwarded
deployed teams at different training sites, delivered
close to 20,000 gallons of fuel
and distributed over 800,000
rounds of ammunitions. The
maintenance section maintained, received, issued and
turned-in over 1,077 pieces of
equipment, spent over 2,400
man-hours on equipment
maintenance and repair and
provided 130 hours of driver’s
training on a gambit of tactical vehicles.
SOTF’s signal section
proved to be one of the best
in the Group at providing C4I
to the Task Force by employing a wide range of command
and control platforms. Some
of these included Tactical Local Area Network, Blue Force
Tracker, Command Post of
the Future and other individual and teams’ organic communication platforms that
the unit can expect to employ
while supporting both United
States Central Command
and United States Southern
Command theater security
objectives.
Enablers such as CA and
MISO also provided invaluable expertise and knowledge
essential to the battalion’s upcoming deployment. These
teams along with the Special
Forces Operational Detachment-Alphas conducted civil
military operations and tactical radio station operations to
identify and address the root
causes of instability affecting each of the villages. They
linked village-level leadership
with sub-national level governance at the district and
province.
The Task Force premission training validation exercise exceeded the
command’s expectations and
brought the unit to the level of
readiness needed to conduct
combat operations in support
of the battalion’s upcoming
mission.

Northwest Florida State College
50th Anniversary Kick-Off Assembly
& Doolittle Raiders Exhibit Dedication
April 17, 2013
A year-long 50th Anniversary celebration of Northwest Florida State College officially
begins with a festive 50th Anniversary Kick-Off Assembly on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at
9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the college’s 2,100 seat Raiders Arena on the Niceville Campus.
Free and open to the public, the event also features the
dedication and opening of a permanent Doolittle Raiders
historical exhibit that is being constructed in the lobby of the
Arena. Three of the surviving WWII Doolittle Raiders crew
members are scheduled to appear at the event and will be
honored by the college, which has used the Raiders name
for its athletics mascot since the early 1960’s.
The college, which was established by the Florida
Legislature in April 1963 as Okaloosa-Walton Junior
College, and first opened its doors to students in August 1964, will celebrate its
50th Anniversary with a series of events from April 2013 through August, 2014.
See the 50th Anniversary website www.nwfsc.edu/50 for information.
The NWFSC 50th Anniversary Kick-Off Assembly on April 17 opens the anniversary
year with entertainment, display of college historical items, the dedication of the
Doolittle Raiders Exhibit and more. As a companion event to the Doolittle Raiders
Reunion hosted by the Fort Walton Beach Chamber, the appearance of Raiders at
the college’s April 17th 50th Anniversary event will be the first public appearance by
the WWII heroes during the reunion weekend. It should be noted that the Doolittle
Raiders will not be available for autographs during their appearance at the college.
