CLERK OF SESSION
Maria Glass
Dear Wayside Congregation,
There have been many questions the past few weeks regarding the early
termination of Interim Pastor Brazell.
Your Session has struggled for the past few months with serious issues that
have been raised by Elders, Deacons, congregational members, community
members and staff in regards to Pastor Brazell.
All issues we addressed were submitted to us in writing and were signed.
In addition, a formal charge was lodged with Presbytery by a congregational
member and at this time is still in the process of being heard and resolved.
These issues were discussed in an executive session meeting and are kept
confidential for the sake of our members and Pastor Brazell. Considering all
of this, our best decision was to sever our ties with Pastor Brazell for the health
of our congregation. Please trust that this decision was made after much
prayer, discussion and deep thought.
We look forward to our future as we move ahead together. We need YOUR
help to create the next chapter in the history of Wayside. We know the best
is yet to come!
Volunteer today:
Volunteer to be on the stewardship committee
Volunteer to work a fundraiser
Volunteer to participate in a worship service
Volunteer to become a Deacon or Elder
Volunteer to share your special talents.
Your church needs you!!!!!!!!
Sincerely,
Your Session

COMMUNION SERVERS
August 1st: 10:30 *Mary Biellak, Shirley Vandepoll, Janet Brooks, Rhoda Peace
We are in need of people for coffee
hour, greeters, assistants and to
serve communion. If you would
like to help, please sign up on the
bulletin board outside the office
door or give your name to Julie in
the office.
CONFIRMATION CLASS
Calling all students in grades
9-12 who are interested in
making their confirmation.
We will have a class beginning
in September 2010.
TASK LIST
Do you do a job, big or small
at Wayside? There are many
people who do special things
here such as preparing communion, changing
the paraments, and putting out signs on Sunday.
Some of these jobs get done and we have no idea
who does them. We are creating a TASK LIST
of all the jobs that are getting done here at
Wayside. This TASK LIST will be very
helpful, especially when our new Pastor
arrives. Please, don't be shy, send me a note and
let me know what you do and if no one has said
it, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!
We are pleased to announce that our class is
coming together nicely under the capable
leadership of Jim Barry.
Due to inclement weather, the car wash scheduled
for June was cancelled. Look for a future fund
raiser sponsored by the class.
3 L’s WEIGHT LOSS GROUP
The 3 L’s group will meet at Nancy Cuoco’s
beach house on Thursday, July 15th at noon.
Any questions, please see Nancy Cuoco.

CHARACTER
The character virtue for July is "Meekness," yielding to ones personal rights and
expectations with a desire to serve. In scripture we also read "the meek shall inherit
the earth," those who are humbly patient. In our society where everything is so
rushed it is sometimes difficult to remember that it is through patience, giving up the
instant gratification, and serving, that we will reap the greatest rewards. As Wayside
goes through a time of rebuilding and selecting a new spiritual leader let us join together, finding
ways to serve, realizing it will take patience. Whether it's the few coins you add, that join up with
others to make many, or the few hours you can give, to complete a needed task, it will all help to
preserve Wayside as the spiritual home we all have come to love.
BEST WISHES TO…
Mary Glass and Nicholas Lindstrom
who were married at Wayside on
July 3rd.
CONGRATULATIONS TO
OUR NEWLY BAPTIZED…

QUILT FOR THE LORD & STITCHIN’ TIME II
This group has settled in and is really liking their Wednesday meeting dates. They are
especially appreciative of the fine cooks within the group and enjoy the lunches they
provide each other. If you like to do any type of sewing or quilting, please feel free to
join them. Quilt for the Lord meets every Wednesday, 10 to 3 PM except the first
Wednesday of the month when they meet from 12—3 PM.
The Monday evening stitchers (Stitchin’ Time II), meet on the first and third Mondays at 6:30 PM.
Come and join them on July 5th, July 19nd, Aug. 2nd, and Aug. 16th.
If you have any questions, please call Shirley at 649-0736 or Mary Lou at 627-2038.
Everyone is welcome to come...you don’t have to be an expert at sewing, just someone who wants to
sew some, chat some, and have a great time.
SUMMER “FUNDAY” SCHOOL
Summer ―Funday‖ school is underway and thanks to Michael Edwards the children
have worked on some very creative crafts. Children in Pre K—Grade 4 are invited to
participate. Children in Grades 5—12 are invited to come and help with the younger
children. (A great way to earn community service hours if you need them.) Adult help
is also needed, so if you can stay with your child on a Sunday, it would be helpful and
appreciated. There is a sign up sheet on the table by the door in Room 110. A great chance to help your
church and talk about a short-term job….one hour...how easy is that!
“CHEW CHEW”
The Chew Chew is still chugging along. He is a hungry fellow. Any nonperishable food
that you can donate is always appreciated.

“Helping Hands Working Together-to Serve Our Family, Our Church, and Our World.
Hello Everyone,
Thanks to everyone who helped out at the picnic...all those who came to set up, cook (thanks
George for bringing your ―big‖ grill), staying for clean up and even helping me put the stuff
away in the kitchen. Thank you also to everyone who attended and brought all those
delicious dishes to share, in spite of the weather, it turned out to be a delightful day.
Our first chicken and chicken/rib barbeque was Wednesday, June 23rd. Luckily, the rain held off until we
sold out. We are happy to report that we sold 356 dinners for $1,200 profit towards purchasing
curriculum for the fall. Thank you to everyone who baked brownies, worked that day and/or purchased a
dinner. A special thank you to co chairs Lisa Edwards and Kim Carlson. If you missed out, don’t worry we
are doing it again on Wednesday, August 4th. Be sure to mark your calendars now.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I can be reached at [email protected] or at
church after August 8th.
A teacher meeting to prepare for fall start up is scheduled for August 8th after the 10 AM service.

WAYSIDE BOOK CLUB
The Book Club will meet next in Sept. We have selected two books for your summer
reading pleasure. The first is ―STILL ALICE‖ by Lisa Genova. In this powerful
debut novel, Alice Howland is a 50-year-old cognitive professor at Harvard and a
world-renowned linguistics expert. One day while out jogging, she finds herself lost in
Harvard Square unable to find her way home, though she is just a mile from her house
on a route she has traveled every day. This is just one of the memory disturbances that
she has noted she is having on an ongoing basis. Soon she can tell that these moments, which are coming
with increased frequency, are not ordinary --- and they are disturbing. Lisa Genova, the author, is a
trained neuroscientist who understands the science behind Alzheimer’s from a clinical point of view, but
she also comprehends the personal tragedy that accompanies one losing a loved one to this insidious
disease. This book is well written and will help you understand the trauma Alzheimer’s disease.
The second book selected for the summer is ―DIARY OF A WHIMPY KID‖ by Jeff Kinney. This is the
first book in the series that has proven to be extremely popular with children. Reading this will give you
some insight to what type of literature appeals to children today. You will meet Greg Heffley and the life
he deals with as a middle school student.
If you want to get a head start on the reading for October, get ―THE BOOK THIEF‖ by Markus Zuzak.
It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical
Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. . . .Set during World War II in Germany, Markus
Zusak’s groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich.
Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t
resist – books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen
books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement
before he is marched to Dachau. This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.
Everyone is welcome to join the Wayside Book Group. Just read one of the books and join us for
discussion. Feel free to bring something you have enjoyed and would like to discuss. We would be happy
to add it to our reading list.
THANK YOU
WAYSIDE’S AWESOME BAKERS
We sent out a message that we needed 400 brownies
for our Chicken BBQ and as usual folks signed up.
Well, we were amazed at the number of brownies
that were brought in. You are so generous. We
thought people would bake a pan or perhaps two.
Well our bakers brought in three or four pans. We
had more than enough for the BBQ. As a matter of
fact, once the extras we froze are counted, we may
have enough for the next BBQ. If not, we’ll let you
know if you need to whip up another batch or two.
Thank you for helping make our BBQ a success.
Have you ever thought about how
much fun you might have sharing
your faith with our youth?
Ask any of our teachers and they
will tell you the good time they
have on Sunday morning...how
rewarding they find teaching our
children. If you think this might be something you
could be interested in, please see Mary Lou Zerby
some Sunday morning or give her a call after
August 8th. Our 3-4 & 5-6 grade classes are
waiting for you.
TUESDAY MORNING QUILTERS
If you would like to work on hand
quilting, please join these ladies at
9 AM every Tuesday in the parlor.
If the Tuesday morning time
doesn’t work for you, please talk
to Fran Wise 627-9881, she is
willing to switch their present
meeting time if a better time would work for any
interested folks.
If you don’t know how to hand quilt and would
like to learn, they would be happy to teach you.
Novice quilters are welcome.
OLD BAGS NEEDED
Ok, stop snickering...I know what
you are thinking, and you are wrong!
We could use your gently used
plastic grocery bags for our next
BBQ. So please bring them to church and leave in
Room 110.
CALLING ALL ABLE-BODIED PERSONS
We can use some help for our next BBQ on Wednesday,
August 4th. So if you can dish, scoop, walk or even run, we
can use you. This is also a great opportunity for our youth
to earn community service hours.
WAYSIDE CHURCH
LIBRARIAN
We are pleased to welcome

our library a more user-friendly place.

Gowanda Still Needs Help From the Flood Last Year
We are still looking for ways to help the families that still need help with home repairs from the August
2009 flood. Sooo here it is!
We are starting a 3000 Club, we need 3000 checks for $50 from our Brothers and Sisters in Christ. GOD
is calling youth groups, women's groups, men's groups, church groups, social clubs, school clubs and individuals to step out and show that we are CHRISTIANS not only by our words but also by our actions. Did
you ever hear " LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU'. How about " LOVE YOUR
NEIGHBOR AS YOUR SELF'
The preceding is what happens when Deacon Fred Johnson wakes up in the middle of the night with an
idea from GOD.
Love In the Name of Christ is on Facebook now and that is how I will keep everyone posted as to how we
are doing. "Love In the Name of Christ, The Movement" is the Facebook page. We have a web page

Your donations can be sent to: Love in the Name of Christ, PO Box 243, Gowanda, NY 14070-0243.
Please put FLOOD RELIEF in the note space.
FAMILY RELIEF FUND
While there is always a need, job loss and
financial difficulties are especially hard on
families that are struggling to make ends meet. If
you could spare a dollar or two, please help out
with this important ministry. Please annotate the
check or envelope accordingly. Thank you.
THANK YOU!!!

St. Stephen's Ministers
One on one. One to one. One with one.
Confidential, because you and me and God will find a way.
The stuffed Bear sits quietly waiting amidst the settling dust. Some of the stitching is loose and its insides
can easily be seen. It's a bit worn...been through a lot of life. If Bear would talk; O, the tales it could
tell. Stories of great and grand adventures; when its roar would make pirates quake in their boots and
Bear's mere presence would keep monsters at bay cowering in the closet or under the bed. And the parties; grand teas and picnics, dances and balls. Bear knew those too. Don't forget love. Bear knew love.
It knew of hugs and kisses and joy. When the mere thought of separation would once bring emotions too
great to bear; desperate cries and tears. Bear knows of friendship and games; of loyalty and comfort. The
power of a touch or a hug or a kind thought to calm a fear; or speed the dark shadows of midnight to the
cheery light of a new day's dawn. The stuffed bear sits quietly.... The moral: Take care of the toys and
remember the joys. Some days you get the bear and some days the bear gets you. And some days you are
the bear.
Should you ever want to share some of your tales or stories, there are Stephen Ministers available who
believe that together we can shake off some of our dust and tighten some of our stitches and find our way
into that new day. Confidentially.
Just A Thought….
I asked for strength...and God gave me difficulties to make me strong. I asked for wisdom...and God gave
me problems to solve. I asked for prosperity...and God gave me brain and brawn to work. I asked for
courage...and God gave me danger to overcome. I asked for love...and God gave me troubled people to
help. I asked for favors...and God gave me opportunities. I received nothing I wanted ; but I received
everything I needed.

Our nurses are off duty for the
month of July but they will be back
in August! Blood pressures are

HAVE YOU SEEN?
A few months ago some note cards and other stationery
items drawn by children were shown to Session as a
possible fund raiser for our church by Christian Ed.
They were from a company called KidsArt.
The sample pack seems to be among the missing. We
were wondering if anyone has seen them. If you have
come across them, please return to the CE office.
Thank you.
IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING
that you would like posted in the
bulletin, Waysider or Call to

The prayer shawl group will meet on Wednesday, July 7th and August 4th. Join this group
for a time of discussion and thought as they
knit and crochet shawls.
At noon they will join the quilters for lunch.
The shawls are made and given to folks in our
congregation who are ill and/or grieving. If
you would like to knit or crochet at home,
contact Maria for the patterns.
If you know of someone who would benefit
from one of our shawls, please contact the
church office at 627-2150 or Maria Glass at
549-1561. Hope to see you there. Why not
come and bring a friend.
