Indications
Compound Benzoin Tincture is used mainly as an inhalation in bronchitis
and acute laryngitis or a topical antiseptic/styptic to small cuts or on intact
skin as a protective dressing.
Contains: Aloes cape 20mg/mL, benzoin sumatra 100mg/mL, storax
prepared 100mg/mL
Compound Benzoin Tincture BP (Friar’s Balsam), is used in the
treatment of catarrh of the upper respiratory tract, by adding to hot water
and inhaling the vapour. Benzoin has protective and mildly antiseptic
properties when applied topically.
Directions for use
As an inhalant: Add 5mL to 500mL of hot water (not boiling) and inhale the vapours.
May stain utensils.
For topical applications: Apply undiluted with clean applicator as a topical antiseptic or
styptic to small cuts or on intact skin as a protective dressing.

Do not use if known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
Flammable. Do not use near a naked flame.
Avoid contact with the eyes, ears and mucous membranes.
Use on adults only. If coughing persists, consult your doctor.
Occasional reports of contact dermatitis have been made. Should skin irritation occur,
discontinue use.
