Welcome
to the naturopathic world of Nutrigold.
NUTRIGOLD
The home of high quality,
Bioactive®, Citrizorb®
food supplements.
Dear valued customer,
Thank you for the interest you have shown in our
company. It is important to everyone at Nutrigold that
our clients understand just how firmly we stand behind
the idea that good nutrition really can make a difference
to our lives, especially in its role of supporting our everevolving, stressful lifestyles. I hope that once you have
had a chance to read the information contained within
this catalogue that you will have a better idea of just
how committed we are to supporting complementary
health practitioners and their clients’ activities.
We believe that the health food supplement industry
is not always taken as seriously as it should be by
many non-nutritional or non biochemically minded
practitioners and some of the more informed members
of the public because of the large number of overhyped,
unscientifically supported products that steal the
limelight from the less headline-worthy traditional
food supplements. However at Nutrigold we believe in
sticking with simple truths, that are often endorsed by an
overwhelming amount of scientifically referenced papers,
these are often further supported by many years of
successful traditional use. When most people consult a
nutritional practitioner for the first time, or when they
decide to take a closer look at how nutrition may help
support their lives for themselves, people are often
surprised by the amount of high quality research that is
available to support its safe and effective use in
maintaining a good quality of life.
“Designed by practitioners to the
exacting standards expected by
our fellow practitioners”
I believe Nutrigold to be a very special company
because it works mainly with these traditional food
supplements, but further enhances them by using the
latest scientific research to explain their true biological
functions in the body.
We also pride ourselves on putting the wellbeing of
our consumers above everything else, by constantly
monitoring the quality of our products, sales support
material and after-sales support services. I hope that
once you have had the chance to try the Nutrigold
experience for yourselves, that you will agree with me
that the team at Nutrigold go the extra distance to
make sure we deliver only the very best products and
services to our consumers.
As our name suggests,
we believe we offer

Who are Nutrigold?
Nutrigold was founded in 1999 by naturopaths,
who jointly share many years experience in the
complementary health field, with the sole objective of
serving the needs of our fellow practitioners. After nine
years of intense development, our unique range of
products and services have gained us the recognition
of being one of the forerunners in the UK’s
Complementary Practitioner Health Market.
encouraging the natural process of elimination,
whilst making available to the body natural, biologically
active food nutrients that your body can recognise
and accept or reject, depending on its requirements. We
believe with the right guidance the body will do the
rest… Remember, it’s what you absorb and how it
reacts in your body that’s important, not the label claim,
or the sales hype that surrounds it.
On behalf of Nutrigold Ltd
Our renowned commercial success over the past nine
years has allowed us to compile an unrivalled level of
scientific research that helps our consumers understand
the best way to get the optimum effects from our
formulations in a safe, responsible manner. We are
particularly proud of our Bioactive Vitamins and high
absorption Citrizorb® Minerals, we believe that these
products set a new industry standard in high quality
food supplementation.
When evaluating food
supplements, always
remember the most
expensive food supplement
you have ever taken is the
one that didn’t work!
As a leading naturopathic company we work with many
of the original holistic principles of The Greek Physician
“Hippocrates”, often referred to as the “Father of
Medicine”, who best explained the most important rule
when he stated a very simple yet sound truth “Let
your food be your medicine and your medicine be
your food”. How true these words still are today…
Although today we do have to question what our food
really delivers in nutritional terms.
He also went on to say “do no harm” which is of course
an important point. We believe you should not do
anything that will directly override the body’s natural
systems; therefore we do not produce any products
that we feel take the right to choose away from
our body’s natural instincts. We strongly believe
that you must work with the body by supporting and

Company Philosophy
What do we promise you, the customer?
Product Quality
As naturopaths, we know how important it is to use
only the highest quality, well-absorbed, natural ingredients
that are suitable for allergy sensitive people. It is for this
reason that our products are, unless otherwise stated,
vegetarian and are free from; GMO, added yeast, lactose,
nuts, wheat & gluten. Please note the key code on all of
our promotional material; this is designed to give you the
necessary information to make an informed choice when
making your product selection.
Quality Control
At Nutrigold we have a highly qualified team of experts
that constantly review all of the latest breakthroughs
in this ever-evolving health market. We have a firm
understanding of market trends and the knowledge to
validate many of the claims that are made for new and
traditional nutritional ingredients. As we are working
in a very controversial market, we are aware of the need
to make sure we vigorously check the quality of our
goods and services. To help us in this area we operate
a state-of-the-art quality control system designed to
secure that only the highest quality products carry the
Nutrigold name. We are also active members of, and
enjoy the support of, the Health Food Manufacturers
Association, known as the HFMA.
“A high quality range of natural food
supplements based on traditional
naturopathic principles”
Ethical Issues
At Nutrigold we recycle wherever possible. For
example; the boxes we use to dispatch our orders in
are made from recycled cardboard and the packing
materials we use in our parcels are made from natural
biodegradable materials. The polypropylene bottles,
although not biodegradable, do not produce any CFC’s
in their manufacturing process. We feel these bottles
are essential from a food hygiene point of view and the
only other real alternative is glass, which has real
drawbacks for mail order companies as there is always
a chance of the glass breaking in transit, which we
feel unnecessarily puts our clients at risk. The use of
glass bottles would also increase our carriage costs
dramatically. We would also like our customers to note
that we do not get involved in animal testing of any kind.
Charitable Work
At Nutrigold we support the activities of “Making a
Difference”, who are involved in caring for and supporting
the Chernobyl Children. If you would like to make a
donation to this cause please call us for more details.
Nutrigold value our environment
and use recycled materials where
ever possible.

Oxycell – This revolutionary
formula has set the complementary
health industry alight by once again

known to help combat
free radical activity.
Menopause Support

complementary health practitioners’
best kept secrets and has recently
been recognised by many leading
health practitioners to be a state-ofthe-art method to support clients
during and after the menopause.
Pro-otic®

product is one of the first room
temperature stable Probiotics to be
offered in the UK with a proven
potency at the time of consumption.
This product offers a wide range

British - Multi
– This amazing
formula is designed from the latest
data compiled by researchers who
looked closely at the average levels
of nutrients found in our everchanging, highly processed foods.
These were then cross referenced
with the typical British diet. The
results of these finding are the basis
for the British - Multi.
Joint Support Formula
– This revolutionary formula
has rewritten the text book on
joint and connective tissue health
by not including chondroitin, as
we believe this is not readily
assimilated by the body. Joint
Support Formula offers a unique
blend of high absorption nutrients
that are designed to support joint
and connective tissue.
Bone Support Formula
– This is a unique
formula that delivers twice the level of biologically
active, organic magnesium to calcium. This is because

Colon support
The philosophy of a naturopathic colon support.
“Colon Support Formula, a
herbal supplement to naturally
support digestion”
Since early medicine many of the world’s leading
naturopaths have been aware of the importance of a
full body and colon elimination. Many of the ancient
civilisations used to advocate a day of self-denial or
fasting. This gave the body an opportunity to reduce
the digestive and toxic load on the bowel and therefore
on many of the other important body organs.
two dessert spoons of Flaxseed Oil and one – two
teaspoons of Superlec, open two capsules of Pro-otic®
and put these in the blender, then simply blend and
serve. Congratulations, you will have created a delicious
and healthy smoothie to start your day. Do this for one
week and see the difference for yourself! Please write
to us with your comments!
In today’s ever-evolving high tech world it is all too easy
to forget the basics of health care, like the importance
of water and the need to create movement within our
lymphatic system. These days we are all looking for the
all-in-one wonder pill and so these simple, yet important
rules are often forgotten and seem too simple to be of
any real value. Don’t be fooled!
Once you have successfully completed a colon support
regime, we suggest the introduction of a carefully
selected range of electrolytes. Electrolyte minerals are
designed to charge the water in and out of the cell,
allowing the natural potassium and sodium exchange to
take place. Products that can help maintain this
important balance are: Supamag Plus, British - Multi and
the Citrizorb® and Actizorb® mineral range.
Dr David Lewis in The Daily Telegraph has reported that
he believes dehydration costs British businesses an
estimated £3.5 billion per year in absenteeism and poor
performance. It has also been suggested that at 2%
dehydration your performance decreases by 20%. In
reality, our bodies are made up of an average of 61%
water. A very large part of ourselves to ignore. At
Nutrigold we believe that you should try and drink
between four and six pints of purified or bottled water
daily to maintain the body’s natural ability to eliminate.
We have also introduced to the Nutrigold Range
a carefully considered range of traditional colon
maintenance products to help support a healthy
digestive tract. These are designed to work in tandem
with our core product, Colon Support Formula.
A nice way to start the day, either as part of a colon
support programme or as a daily food supplement, is
to put Flaxseed Oil, Superlec and Pro-otic® into a
smoothie. To do this, put half a fresh mango, one organic
banana and some blue berries in a blender with one –

Clysmatic and Enemas
Support a healthy digestive system with
the unique, safe and easy-to-use Ledin
Clysmatic regime.
To many people an enema or colonic irrigation is a
strange thing that is only used by quite extreme health
conscious minded people. However, this could not be
further from the truth, as colonics and enemas are
considered normal and commonplace throughout
Europe and are acknowledged to be a natural, safe way
to support a healthy bowel function and our natural
cellular detoxification processes.
The bowel is an area of our bodies we do not often talk
about. Many of us do not even know where our bowel
is, or as it is often referred to our colon, let alone its
important biological functions. The bowel plays a key
role in the breakdown of our food, while also playing an
important role in the assimilation and absorption of
essential nutritional substances. We are often aware of
the bowel’s responsibility for the effective disposal of
residue substances created by the digestion of our food.
However, we are not always aware that if our bowel is
unable to effectively transport the residues of our
digestion through our body, these residues can cause
irritation and discomfort. Did you know that the
average transit time for our food is about 18 – 24 hours,
however, in many cases this can be much longer.
What can affect the bowel
transit time?
It is thought that the bowel transit time can be slowed
down by having a diet with too little fibre in it, ie, a diet
of over processed foods, too little liquid intake, or just
too little exercise or excess stress. These are all factors
that are thought to play a role in the time needed to
digest our food. So at a very simple level, we should
never rush our meals or eat them on the move, or try
and eat while we are feeling stressed, in reality how
many of us do?
So, what is the Clysmatic?
The Ledin Clysmatic regime is a process that was
developed by one of Sweden’s original naturopaths,
Birger Ledin. The Clysmatic is the result of many years
documented work in the area of bowel function and
offers its users a safe regime that can be carried out in
the comfort of their own home in a clean, easy-to-use
format. The Clysmatic regime works by gently
encouraging natural peristalsis and thus supporting a
healthy digestive system in a natural, safe method.
The Clysmatic system is medically approved in Sweden
and can be easily fixed to the toilet and bathroom wall

in a discreet manner that can be just as simply removed
and cleaned away after use. The Clysmatic is a method
of colonics that stimulates and strengthens the bowel’s
natural defecation reflexes that are responsible for the
emptying and cleaning of our bowels. This system will
not weaken the natural defecation reflexes when used
regularly and you should not become reliant on it for
normal bowel function. The effect of using the Clysmatic
system is not that different from a normal visit to
the toilet.
The Clysmatic encourages the bowel to work a little
harder than may normally be the case and it is true to
say that the Clysmatic in some ways is another method
of colonics, but with one major difference, the liquid is
not put in the bowel under high pressure as it is only
gravity fed, unlike many forms of pressurised colonic
irrigation. The Clysmatic focuses mainly on the lower
bowel so there are no real concerns over disrupting the
all-important natural bowel flora of the gut. The
Clysmatic system has been used safely in homes, clinics,
hospitals and institutions throughout Sweden for over
seventy years and is today regarded as an effective
system for clinic or home use throughout Europe and is
currently being used by many of the leading health
retreats in Europe.
Enemas
Enemas are a traditional technique that have been
employed both effectively and safely for many years, by
many of Europe’s leading naturopathic practitioners.
Enemas are now becoming commonplace in the
complementary health industry and are seen as an
effective method of supporting a healthy bowel function.
Warnings: Do not use these products if you
are pregnant or intending to become pregnant
in the near future. Always seek the
advice of a trained practitioner
before attempting an enema
or clysmatic.
At Nutrigold we offer 2 types of enema kit; the more
popular transparent foldaway, sealable enema kit or the
traditional small enema bucket style, both of these
products are gravity fed, so there is no high pressure used
in these methods, unlike some of the more traditional
colonic irrigation methods, which although very effective
can only be administered by a trained professional.

Detox Support Formula
A wonderful way to give your body a helping hand!
Setting the industry standard
This revolutionary detoxification programme has set a
new industry standard for the way we can support and
encourage targeted organ or full body detoxification, in
a safe and scientifically supported way.
What do we mean by the
term detoxification?
To many people detoxification is a vague term loosely
associated with getting rid of toxins. However, we
believe that in a successful detoxification programme
the body needs to convert the toxins into something
else before being able to remove them successfully.
Nutrigold has put together the Detox Support Formula
after identifying a range of important enzymes needed
in the body’s natural detoxification processes. Having
identified these, we formulated a product to deliver the
nutritional co-factors associated with supporting these
important enzyme detoxification activities, in one
easy-to-take formula.
Many people know about the benefits of a good colon
support regime and there are many popular techniques
that can be employed to support this approach:
Clysmatics, retention enemas and colonic irrigation.
Although these techniques are very positive they do not
in themselves directly address the issue of liver and
kidney detoxification.
At Nutrigold we are great believers in these colon
support regimes. However, with modern highly
processed foods this approach in itself may not be able to
support, either directly or indirectly, the important cellular
function of our liver and kidneys. We feel that for any
naturopathic detoxification regime to be truly effective,
one needs to support the natural elimination processes
from many of our key organs. We refer to this kind of
programme as a full body detoxification regime, which
tends to go further than many traditional colon support
regimes. It is for this reason that we strongly recommend
the introduction of our special Detox Support Formula
to any naturopathic detoxification programme as we
believe this formula supports the natural eliminatory
processes of the liver, kidneys and other organs, by
detoxifying and then externalising their toxins.
Why is the Detox Support Formula
so unique?
The Nutrigold detox programme works by supporting
the two steps that need to take place in the body to
detoxify toxins. The first is chemical transformation of
the toxin, usually by oxidation, by which it is converted to
another substance, a derivative of the original toxin. The
second is conjugation, which means attaching the toxin
derivative to another molecule (called a ‘ligand’) to
render it much less toxic. The first step is conducted by
enzymes known as Phase I enzymes, while the second
step is conducted by Phase II
enzymes. Each of these
groups of enzymes
have specific co-factors
required for the enzymic
reaction to proceed and
many of these are
available only through good
nutrition. For Phase II you
need a supply of the ligands that
have to be attached to the toxins.
The ingredients needed to
support these two processes are
provided within the Detox
Support Formula.

How long should you continue to take the
detox support formula for?
At the lower intake level we recommend that you should
continue this for up to three months, at the higher level we
normally suggest four – six weeks, or as directed by your
practitioner (for more details please call our advice line on
0845 603 5675 – select option 2).
Dietary suggestions:
This formula does not rely on the consumer having to
make large dietary changes. However, it is advisable to drink
plenty of filtered or mineral water daily, 4-8 pints during the
day, no more than 1 pint per hour (for a cost effective way
to filter your water see page 52). Eat plenty of fresh fish
(not smoked), fresh vegetables, rice, sprouted seeds, beans
and fresh fruit. We also suggest that you should where
appropriate reduce tea, coffee, soft drinks, alcohol, salt (this
includes products high in sodium), dairy produce, red meat
and wheat.

Golden Aloe
The natural choice for high quality biologically active whole-leaf Aloe Vera.
So why is Golden Aloe recognised
to be such a great product and the
complementary health practitioner’s
natural choice?
We at Nutrigold believe that our Golden Aloe is one of
the highest quality Aloe Vera products on the market. We
manufacture this unique product in only the highest quality
processing facilities and it is produced using only the finest
quality, Aloe Barbadensis Miller plant leaves. In our view it
is important to only source our product from the Aloe
Barbadensis Miller variety of Aloe Vera plant. This is a very
special species that is normally used in high quality internal
use Aloe Vera products. It is also the only species we are
aware of that has a large amount of scientific and safety
research to support its use. At Nutrigold we do not use
any other species of Aloe Vera in our product.
Harvesting & Processing
“A real gold standard in
Aloe supplementation”
We start by carefully selecting only the very best Aloe
Barbadensis Miller plants, that have been grown to well
recognised standards. The Aloe plant begins as a cutting
from the mother plant and is planted in chemical-free soil
in areas of the world that offer a humid environment.
Aloe Vera is not, as it is commonly thought, a cactus, it is
part of the lily family and is a succulent that receives 80%
of its moisture from the atmosphere. The Aloe Vera plant
maintains itself, so fertilisers and pesticides are not needed
during its growth to maturity. It takes an average of
eighteen months for an Aloe plant to reach maturity and
a stage where the leaves are ready for their first harvest.
When we harvest the Aloe Vera plant we will take
between six to eight leaves from a fully mature plant. With
excellent growing conditions, it may be possible to harvest
these plants twice a year. The mature plant will produce
leaves for five to six years before being tilled into the
ground for new plantings. The leaves are harvested by
hand cutting at the base of the plant. They are placed in
baskets and loaded on to a trailer that transports them
to the processing facility. The time from harvest and
transport to the process facility is less than two hours.
Timing plays a critical role in maintaining the biological
activity of the plant leaf.
Why use whole-leaf Aloe Vera?
Many Aloe Vera products are simply made from the inner
gel of the leaf. These are good products in their own right,
but they contain far less of the solids that whole-leaf Aloe
Vera offers. These important solids are responsible for
delivering the properties associated with good quality
Aloe Vera.
The art of whole-leaf extraction
The process we use to produce every bottle of our
premium quality Golden Aloe extract is one of the first of
its kind. It has successfully set a new industry standard in
the way we can now deliver a highly biologically active,
whole-leaf extract, without the normal harsh extraction
processes often used to break down the harder rind of
the aloe plant. Unusually this is achieved without any
significant loss of biological activity, which is what we feel
sets Golden Aloe apart from many of its competition. This
revolutionary process also reduces the levels of an
undesirable component known as aloin (the laxative part
of the Aloe Vera plant) while still delivering the maximum
level of the all-important biological activity and potency.
Golden Aloe Better by design
At Nutrigold, we believe our Golden Aloe is in many ways
superior to many of the other Aloe Vera products offered
in the market place. The specialised process used to
manufacture our Golden Aloe marks a quantum leap
forward in the handling and processing of Aloe Vera
products and once again, Nutrigold are at the cutting edge
of this breakthrough.

is supported by over 200
scientific trials.
What about product potency?
By removing the inner gel from the outer whole-leaf, you
can obtain an aloe extract which contains the minimum
levels of an undesirable substance called aloin (the
laxative component). However, this gel only delivers
approximately 0.5% aloe solids (the part that affects the
biological activity). The gel is therefore much diluted and
thus less potent than a whole-leaf product. Whereas
whole-leaf extract contains 1-2% solids (4 times more
than gel) and hence, if extracted carefully like we do with
Golden Aloe, delivers a greatly enhanced potency.
Why do some products seem cheaper?
It is worth noting that it is cheaper for Aloe Vera producers
to mass process large quantities of Aloe Vera. These
methods are not always the best way to retain the allimportant biological functions of the original Aloe Vera leaf
in the finished product. Many suppliers simply remove all
the fluid and produce what is known as a 200-1 dried
powder and rehydrate it once it arrives at its destination.
This is called reconstituted Aloe Vera, this important fact
is often not mentioned on the label. These products on
the face of it seem cheaper because the companies selling
them will save a large amount of money in carriage costs.
However, we believe that the end product will not deliver
as much biological activity and therefore may not achieve
the result the consumers are looking for. It is for this
reason that Nutrigold do not offer our clients Aloe Vera
capsules or tablets and we never use reconstituted
Aloe Vera.

Pro-otic
®
Support your digestion with this high
potency probiotic
A real first for probiotic
supplementation!
As far as we are aware Pro-otic® is the first full spectrum
probiotic to set an industry standard by delivering a
proven potency at the time of consumption, while
having the convenience of being able to be stored at
normal room temperature.
Probiotics
For many years leading naturopaths have recommended
the use of foods that supply a good level of friendly
digestive bacteria. In more recent years many more people
have become aware of these benefits through high-level
media adverts that promote the health benefits of eating
biologically active yoghurt on a daily basis. It has long been
established that a good level of slightly acid forming bacteria
can help support a healthy digestive and immune system.
Latest research
Recent research indicates that to obtain the very best
from a probiotic product it is important to use a full
spectrum of bacteria. We believe these to be;
• Lactobacillus acidophilus
• Bifidobacterium longum
• Lactococcus lactis ssp lactis
• Bifidobacterium breve
• Lactobacillus rhamnosus
• Bifidobacterium bifidum
Most products offered in the UK today only deliver
acidophilus and sometimes, if you are lucky bifidum, which
although very friendly bacteria, we feel these should be
further enhanced by using other bacteria to support
their function.
Support a healthy digestive system
“At last – a convenient way to store a
Probiotic that delivers the goods”
The key roles of probiotic bacteria are to produce lactic
acid, thereby keeping the conditions in the lumen of the
bowel weakly acidic. In the large bowel or colon these
positive bacteria ensure that undesirable organisms that
promote a more alkaline environment and have a mainly
putrefactive action are inhibited. Long-term naturopathic
wisdom therefore advocates, as a guideline for good
digestive health, maximising the acid producers and
minimising the alkali producers in the intestine. This is
done through using a carefully considered balance of
viable probiotic bacteria in a supplement form, which are
probably best supported by a diet low in animal produce.
Pro-otic® – delivering the goods
Pro-otic® has set an industry standard by delivering to its
consumers a full spectrum probiotic that's proven to
deliver its all important bacteria at the time you take
them, not just at the time of formulation! This is a real
breakthrough as most probiotic products on the market
are unable to promise to deliver the label claim at the
time you take them.
Why is a proven potency
so important?
A major consumer magazine carried out a test on
many of the popular probiotic brands on the market.
This showed that most brands failed to deliver their
declared label claim, so now many suppliers cover
themselves against this issue by using the term “at the
time of formulation” i.e. not at the time you take the
supplement! This means there is no way to know what
you are getting when you take such a product.
Pro-otic® takes the guess work out of probiotic
supplementation by delivering these important bacteria,
which are stable at normal room temperature (4ºC 22ºC), for fifteen months from its date of manufacture.
So unless you are going to expose them to extreme
climates, there is no need for inconvenient refrigeration.
These bacteria have also been noted to be particularly
good at adhering to the stomach lining, so there
is no need to add controversial ingredients like
fructooligosaccharides.

Essential Fatty Acids
EFA’s, or as they are often called Omega-3 & Omega-6
Complementary health professionals have known for
many years about the importance of supplementing the
British diet with essential fatty acids (EFA’s), in particular
a very important group of essential fatty acids called
Omega-3. It is common knowledge that our modern
diets deliver a decreasing amount of this essential
nutrient. The subject of essential fatty acids and the
important role they play in our diet has been getting
increased levels of publicity over recent years, in fact
many high profile pet food producers are proud to claim
in their TV adverts that their products deliver Omega3 (one of the better known essential fatty acids).
However, when it comes to our own diets
we often seem totally unaware of the importance of
these nutrients.
Aren’t all fats bad for you?
Many people think of fats as foods that give us energy
and they may also be aware that too much fat in the
diet is a bad thing. However, less people know that
there are good and bad fats. It is true to say that there
are two very specific types of fat that appear in our diets,
both are considered to be essential to maintain good
health. These vitally important groups of fats are called
Omega-3 and Omega-6 and are also known as
"polyunsaturates".
“Essential fatty acids are known
to support a healthy heart and
immune system”
Omega-3 and Omega-6 (EFA’s) are supported by some
very substantial research which indicates that these
essential nutrients are important to maintain, in
particular, a healthy heart, blood, arteries, immune
system, joints, bones and brain function. They are also
noted to support the production of a distinct group of
hormones known as eicosanoids (of which one group is
derived from Omega-6 and another different group is
derived from Omega-3). These particular fats are
considered essential, mainly because they are needed
to produce these specific hormones in the body which
are known to play a role in our physiological functions.
However, it is not always realised that Omega-3 and
Omega-6 fatty acids are both independently essential,
i.e. there is no way an imbalance in one can be
addressed by supplementing another. These important
Omega-3 and Omega-6 fats need to be clearly
distinguished from the "non-essential fatty acids", which
comprise both the saturated fatty acids (which do not
have an Omega number) and the mono-unsaturated
fatty acids (also referred to as Omega-9). Both these
types can be safely omitted from the diet so long as
there are sufficient energy sources of other kinds and
there is sufficient fat to permit the absorption of the
fatsoluble vitamins. However, most research indicates
that there are health implications from over-consuming
saturated fats.
What is an Essential Fatty Acid?
To understand this fully one needs to appreciate the
difference between "fats" and "fatty acids". When we eat
fatty foods we eat primarily "fats". Each molecule of a fat
is made up from three molecules of the organic acids
known as "fatty acids" and one molecule of glycerol.
Chemists therefore call them "triglycerides". Fats can be
converted into their component fatty acids plus glycerol
either by boiling with alkali or by the action of enzymes
(such as those within our bodies) that break down fats.
It is the component fatty acids that may be essential, not
the fats themselves. Obviously, though, a fat that is rich
in Omega-3 fatty acids yields mainly Omega-3 fatty acids
when it is digested.
It has long been thought that the amazing health records
of the Eskimos living in their traditional style, hunting
marine foods in the Arctic, is down to the positive levels
of these all important nutrients.

What is the natural ratio in our diets
and what ratio should we look to
supplement our diets?
When addressing our overall dietary needs for essential
fatty acids, a ratio of three times more Omega-6
to Omega-3 is commonly suggested. However, there
are currently no official (i.e. Government-backed)
recommendations. Converting this into absolute
amounts usually results in suggestions of about 2g per day
of Omega-3 and 6g per day of Omega-6. Although it is
certainly true to say that we need less Omega-3 than
Omega-6 on a daily basis, it is also true to say that in most
cases Omega-3 is much more likely to be in short supply
from our diets. It is for this reason that many leading
practitioners recommend that we use a supplement that
will provide three times more Omega 3 than 6, as
naturally found in our Golden Flaxseed Oil.
How should we supplement Omega-3
(alpha-linolenic acid and others)?
It is true to say that most people, supplemented with a
good source of flaxseed oil, will convert the alphalinolenic acid from the flaxseed oil to the important
Omega-3 fatty acid. However, some people who do
not convert the flaxseed oil fatty acids efficiently may
well need to supplement with EPA Marine Fish Oils
instead or to take the more cost effective Flaxseed Oil
while at the same time taking some EPA.
OMEGA-3 BIOLOGICAL FUNCTIONS
A healthy dietary balance of Omega-3 can
help maintain:
• A healthy heart, blood and arterial system
• A healthy immune system
• Healthy, flexible, supple joints
• A healthy brain function
• Healthy bones

Essential Fatty Acids
When would you use EPA Marine Fish oils?
This is a popular method of supplementing Omega-3, a
very concentrated form which has been extracted from
the whole fish, not to be confused with “cod liver oil"
which is quite different. The EPA marine fish oil comes
from oily fish, often sardines or anchovies, which are often
sourced from Norwegian waters.
The main benefit of this form of supplementation is that,
in some cases, it can be easier for the body to convert
than the plant forms like flaxseed oil, because it offers
the Omega-3 in a form that is closer to how our bodies
require it. However it is very important to make sure
the fish you process your oil from do not contain any
concerning levels of pollutants, or heavy metals.
Nutrigold’s EPA Marine Fish Oils are custom made from
only the highest quality oils that are constantly screened for
PCB's, dioxins and heavy metals to make sure that every
batch of our EPA Marine Fish Oil capsules are indeed
good enough to eat!! Although the fish oil itself is not
vegetarian, this product now comes to you in a state-ofthe-art vegetarian capsule shell, which means you not only
get a carefully measured intake of the oil but those of you
who wish to take fish oils, but do not like a fishy taste, or
do not want to consume the normal gelatine capsule
shells, can now do so.

EVENING PRIMROSE OIL
RED ALERT

The British diet is rich in linoleic acid, the most common
Omega-6 acid but we feel that many people today

OmegaSmart
A cutting edge formula that marks the start of a
new era in Enzyme triggered EFA supplementation.
One of the industry’s first bioactive,
enzyme triggered, emulsified essential
fatty acid formulations. For those of us
who want to get the most out of our
Essential Fatty Acid formulations…
These days the mainstream media and food industry are
always talking to us about the need to eat foods that
contain high levels of essential fatty acids (EFA’s), these
are often better known to us as the Omega Oils 3, 6 &
9. These important nutrients naturally occur in foods
like oily fish, flaxseeds, evening primrose oil & borage oil
to name but a few of the better known sources.
Although many of us are more than aware these days of
the importance of a regular daily intakes of the essential
fatty acids (EFA’s) the key questions, of how much
should we be consuming daily of each omega oil, what
are the best sources of these and of course the all
important question of, in what balance should we be
consuming these oils, are all too often left unanswered.

Our research shows us that we normally obtain the
correct amount of Omega 6 from our diets, provided
we stick to a diet that avoids too many hydrogenated
fats or high temperature cooking. However, even when
you use your best efforts to consume a healthy diet, a
large percentage of people in the U.K still fall short of
obtaining what we would consider to be an optimum
level of Omega 3. Although we are not aware of any
official guidelines on this subject, leading complementary
health professionals have suggested that an adult should
consume an estimated 2g per day of Omega 3 and
6g per day of Omega 6, hence many supplements on the
market offer products that favour Omega 6, like hemp oil.

What is the right Ratio of
omega oils to supplement?
However, we feel that once you have taken into account
the average consumption of these essential fatty acids
from the diet, you should try to supplement these at a
ratio which is either at equal levels of each or in some
cases this should slightly favour Omega 3. Where one
introduces Omega 6 to a formula, normally for long term
support, we feel that at least some of this should be
offered in the well utilised form of Gamma-Linolenic Acid
(GLA), as found in borage oil.
However, once we have addressed the key questions of
how much should we be consuming daily of each omega
oil, the source, and in what balance, is there anything more
we can do to an EFA food supplement that makes sure
that our body utilises these all important oils more fully?
The simple answer to this question is yes, OmegaSmart is
at the cutting edge of our understanding of essential fatty
acid technology and is therefore one of the few essential
fatty acid products on the market that also delivers
important emulsifying ingredients, like Phosphatidyl
Choline and Monoglycerides which emulsify the oils to
make them more readily available to the body.
OmegaSmart goes one step further than simple
emulsification as it is one of the first omega oil
formulations, we are aware of to deliver the lesser
known enzyme, lipase, that is a valuable enzyme known
to help break down fats in the body.

Antioxidants
The role of antioxidants and free radicals.
Antioxidants are nutrients or other
substances that protect our bodies
from “free radicals”. To understand
antioxidants and their benefits fully,
we firstly need to know what “free
radicals” are.
Free radicals are extremely reactive chemicals that arise
in the body. Some of these are formed naturally due to
the body’s use of oxygen, others are formed due to
toxins entering the body, which may appear through our
food or enter our bodies through air pollution etc.
Nobody can be completely toxin-free but we can
protect ourselves by reducing our exposure to some of
the more unwelcome dietary substances and by
encouraging our natural process of detoxification (for
more information on detoxification see page 10).
As we all have free radicals in the body, we all need a
defense system to minimise the harm they can do if
left unchecked. As luck would have it, during our
natural evolutionary process, we have developed a
comprehensive system which is comprised of selected
nutrients, enzymes and some elements of our immune
system. Evidence shows that free radicals attack the
very structure of our tissues and our ability to generate
energy efficiently. The damage free radicals do is thought
to contribute greatly to the ageing process.
What are antioxidants?
“Oxycell – a refreshing new approach
to antioxidant supplementation”
Antioxidants are natural biochemicals that react with
free radicals and inactivate them in a process called
“quenching”. They may be particular vitamins and
minerals or other special substances, mostly derived
from plant sources. As many of us know we all need a
good level of antioxidant protection to help support a
healthy immune function and to help minimise the
natural signs of aging. But how should we get these
important antioxidants and which ones should we use?
Complementary practitioners have known for many
years that to deliver an effective antioxidant protection
we need to supplement a full spectrum of antioxidants,
rather than just a single antioxidant nutrient, like vitamin
C or selenium on their own. Well respected research
into antioxidant function has demonstrated that vitamin
E certainly works better if supported by its antioxidant
co-factor selenium. At Nutrigold we feel the same is
certainly true for nearly all of the antioxidant nutrients
and therefore we feel the best way to deliver an
effective antioxidant supplement is as a complete range
of carefully considered antioxidants. Oxycell delivers all
of these in the most biologically active forms available,
which is why we feel our Oxycell Formula is a gold
standard in antioxidant technology.
Why is Oxycell the natural choice?
In recent years, because it makes for interesting reading,
the media are constantly reporting, often in our view
unjustifiably, about the concerns they have over the use
of high potency vitamin A, beta carotene, or vitamin E
products. These articles continue to appear even
though these reports should be open to debate,
considering the weight of scientific research that may
indicate otherwise. The health food industry’s governing
bodies often reply to these allegations but the replies
are rarely as newsworthy as the original allegation. We
feel that due to all this media coverage the average
person is becoming more confused and concerned
about the safety of these particular food supplements
and have therefore often decided to forgo the benefits
of such a supplement. We feel this is unjust and a real
shame. To help accommodate these concerns and
because we feel it really adds to the overall effectiveness
of Oxycell, the formula offers the consumer adequate,
but not high levels of the traditionally used beta
carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E and selenium, which are
all delivered in the most biologically active, low toxicity
forms available. We have also made some exciting
additions to this formulation, which now goes one step
further than it did before by delivering a carefully
selected range of high potency natural plant extracts.
We feel these ingredients make Oxycell one of the first
truly, multi purpose, antioxidant products which we feel
in many cases outperforms the traditional nutrients i.e
Vitamin A, C & E, by many fold. Therefore, you can now
deliver high potency antioxidant activity in an easy-totake, one – two capsules formula without the concerns
of mega-dosing nutrients like vitamin C or E etc.

The biological functions of the
traditional antioxidants Vitamin A
and beta carotene
Vitamin A, or as we at Nutrigold prefer to use, natural
beta carotene (a natural source of vitamin A) helps
maintain healthy immune function, skin, vision, hair, nails,
teeth and gums. Vitamin A is also needed for normal
growth and our natural reproductive processes.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E supports healthy blood cells and is involved in
normal blood clotting and promoting good blood
vessel health. Therefore as part of a healthy lifestyle
vitamin E helps support a healthy heart, immune system,
skin and circulation. Vitamin E is also well noted to work
synergistically with a good organic source of selenium
(L-seleno methionine).
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is involved in supporting our bodies
assimilation of iron and is needed for the production of
collagen and hence is involved in the renewal and
integrity of connective tissue. Vitamin C also helps
maintain a healthy immune system, bones, skin, blood
cells, teeth and gums.

B Vitamins
B vitamin nutrients are a group of approximately
sixteen different water-soluble vitamins that
appear naturally within our diets, although there
is some healthy debate about the exact number
of true B vitamins. B vitamins have been used
by naturopaths for many years and first enjoyed
wide spread recognition in the form of brewers
yeast. It is true to say that brewers yeast is still
on offer today although many naturopaths have
reservations over the yeast content, so most
modern nutrients offer natural B Vitamins in a
non-yeast form.
Thiamin (Vitamin B-1)
Thiamin, often referred to as Vitamin B-1, helps maintain
a healthy nervous system. Thiamin is involved in the
release of energy from foods and has been shown to
play an important role in normal growth, appetite and
digestion. Food sources naturally high in thiamin levels
are; pumpkin, fresh peas, wheat germ, pork and
sunflower seeds. As a guideline we would suggest that
a good optimal daily intake of thiamin should be around
10mg daily. However, if you are looking to a support a
specific health issue you can use higher levels. The official
Government recommended daily allowance (RDA) for
Vitamin B-1 is 1.4mg.
Riboflavin (Vitamin B-2)
“Multi B Complex; delivering
a carefully considered
gentle balance of natural
B vitamins”
Riboflavin, often referred to as Vitamin B-2, has been noted
to play a key role in the maintenance of healthy skin, hair
and nails. It is also needed for the natural growth processes
and is necessary for the release of
energy. Food sources naturally
high in riboflavin are; lamb’s liver,
mushrooms, turnip tops and
skimmed milk. As a guide we
would recommend a good
optimal level of riboflavin, to
supplement the average British
diet, would be approximately
10mg daily. However, if you are
looking to a support a specific
health issue you can use higher
levels. The official Government
recommended daily allowance
(RDA) for Vitamin B-2 is 1.6mg.
Niacin (Vitamin B-3)
Niacin is the collective description for nicotinic acid and
nicotinamide. Niacin is a component of the respiratory
chain (NAD) and therefore concerned with tissue
oxidation of food for the release of energy. It is also
concerned with the synthesis of fatty acids and is noted to
help maintain a healthy nervous system and skin. Food
sources naturally high in vitamin B-3 are; anchovies, octopus,
mushrooms, lamb’s liver, chicken, peanuts and brown rice.
As a guide we would recommend a good optimal level of
niacin (B-3) to supplement the average British diet would
be approximately 50mg daily. However, it you are looking
to support a specific health issue you can use higher levels.
The official Government recommended daily allowance
(RDA) for Vitamin B-3 is 18mg.
Pantothenic acid (Vitamin B-5)
(Calcium Pantothenate)
Pantothenic acid (B-5) is involved in protein and
carbohydrate metabolism and hence plays a key role in
the production of energy. Food sources naturally high
in pantothenic acid are; parsley, broad beans, endive,
trout and chicken. As a guide we would recommend a
good optimal level of pantothenic acid to supplement
the average British diet would be approximately 60mg
daily. However, if you are looking to a support a
specific health issue you can use higher levels. The
official Government recommended daily allowance
(RDA) for Vitamin B-5 is 6mg.
Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B-12)
Cyanocobalamin biologically functions as co enzymes
and helps maintain the correct fatty acids in the myelin
sheath around nerves, hence it may be claimed to
help maintain a healthy nervous system and is involved
in the production of red blood cells. Food sources
naturally high in cyanocobalamin are; mackerel, lamb’s
liver, lamb’s kidney and mussels. So this nutrient is often
supplemented by vegetarians and vegans. As a
guide we would recommend a good optimal level
of cyanocobalamin to supplement the average British
diet would be approximately 20mcg daily. However,
if you are looking to a support a specific health issue
you can use higher levels. The official Government
recommended daily allowance (RDA) for Vitamin B-12
is 1mcg.

Pyridoxine hydrochloride &
Pyridoxal-5-phosphate
(Vitamin B-6)
Pyridoxine helps maintain healthy skin, blood cells,
nervous system and is involved in amino acid
metabolism and hence protein metabolism. Many
women choose to take a supplement of Vitamin B-6
around the time of their menstruation. Food sources
that are naturally high in pyridoxine are; leeks, trout,
wheat germ, cantaloupe melon and chicken. As a guide
we would recommend a good optimal level of
pyridoxine to supplement the average British diet would
be approximately 10mg daily. However, if you are
looking to a support a specific health issue you can use
higher levels. The official Government recommended
daily allowance (RDA) for Vitamin B-6 is 2mg.
Folic Acid / Folacin
Biotin
Folic acid is involved in the synthesis of DNA and RNA
and is needed for growth, a healthy digestive system and
nervous system, and plays a role in the formation of
red blood cells. Folic acid is important for foetal
development. Supplements can carry the CMO advice;
The Government’s Chief Medical Officers advise that
all women planning a pregnancy should take a 400 mcg
Folic acid supplement daily from the start of trying to
conceive until the 12th week of pregnancy. Food
sources naturally high in folic acid are; endive, black eyed
beans, lamb’s liver and raspberries. As a guide we would
recommend a good optimal level of Folic acid to
supplement the average British diet would be
approximately 100mcg daily. However, if you are
looking to a support a specific health issue you can use
higher levels. The official Government recommended
daily allowance (RDA) for Folic acid is 200mcg.
Biotin is involved in carbohydrate, protein, fat metabolism
and is considered essential for growth, maintenance of a
healthy nervous system, skin, hair and bone marrow. Biotin
is also considered to help in the utilisation of folic acid and
B-12. Food sources naturally rich in Biotin are; pulses, nuts
and fish. As a guide we would recommend a good optimal
level of biotin to supplement the average British diet
would be approximately 100mcg daily. However, if you
are looking to a support a specific health issue you can
use higher levels. The official Government recommended
daily allowance (RDA) for Biotin is 150mcg.

The term lecithin is the common name used to describe
a very special group of phospholipids, however, the key
one of these is known as phosphatidyl choline, so when
making a choice of which lecithin to purchase, consumers
should always compare the levels of this all important
active ingredient. Many of the products on offer may
look like good value for money, with large bottles of
lecithin at seemingly low prices, however, when you look
closer at how much phosphatidyl choline they contain, it
is often very low, 12% or less. Superlec is one of the
most potent natural lecithins on the market which on
average delivers 32% phosphatidyl choline.

Lecithin has been for many years, and still is today, one of
the most popular food supplements offered in the health
food market. Lecithin plays an important role in the
emulsification and mobilisation of fats in the liver tissue,
offering our bodies the opportunity to combine oil and
water. This allows us to get the most out of the essential
fatty acid sources of Omega-3, 6 & 9 oils. Maybe even
more concerning, considering so much lecithin is sold in
the UK each year, is the fact that so many consumers are
totally unaware of what makes a good lecithin product.

It is important to note that many lecithin products are
bleached to make them more consumer friendly, so they
will not discolour with age and every batch will look the
same for consumer compliance. However, at Nutrigold
we believe this is a bad idea, as there may be possible
issues with the increased levels of peroxides in the
product, which we feel may not be a good idea when
you are trying to support liver function. It is for this
reason that we do not bleach our high phosphatidyl
choline Superlec product. So please note that our
product will change colour with age, this is a natural
process that will not retard the effectiveness of this
product below its stated product shelf life.

Healthy cholesterol levels
Superlec is suitable for vegetarians as it comes from the
soya bean. We are very aware that some people have
concerns over the intake of soya products, because of
possible sensitivities. However, it is important to note
that this phospholipid is just an extract of soya and not
the whole soya bean complex itself. Because of this we
have found that many sensitive people are able to
tolerate this product. We have sold many thousands of
units of Superlec over the years with no reported
sensitivities, however, if you feel you have a definite allergy
to soya you should not take this product. The only real
alternative source of these important phospholipids
would be eggs, although we are currently looking in to
the possibility of using other natural plant sources.

Citrizorb Minerals
A mineral that fits into your natural krebs cycle.
The natural choice for mineral
supplementation
At Nutrigold we are very proud to be able to
make available some of the finest quality
minerals on offer in today’s complementary
health market. We call these ingredients
Citrizorb® minerals. Citrizorb® is a unquie trade
mark we use to describe our natural, biologically
active, high absorption minerals.
How do we make Citrizorb® minerals?
“Citrizorb®; an amazing range of
organic, high absorption minerals,
in a form our bodies readily utilise”
Citrizorb® minerals are formed from citric acid, which
belongs to the group of organic acids known as
"tricarboxylic acids". This is because its molecule contains
three of the chemical groupings "carboxyl" and it is these
that render the citric acid, acidic. Each of these carboxyls
can link to an atom of a metallic mineral, such as
potassium, giving three potassium atoms carried by the
citrate molecule. The fact that three potassium atoms
combine with just one molecule of citric acid gives
potassium citrate a high concentration of the elemental
metal, potassium (meaning grams of potassium per 100g
of potassium citrate). This is helpful when it comes to
manufacturing supplements because it means one can get
more of the metal, in citrate form, inside a capsule of a
given size than would be the case with, say, potassium
gluconate, orotate or so called food complex minerals.
When metals are linked in this manner, the product is
referred to as a mineral citrate (Citrizorb®), whereas
when the metal is absent you have just free citric acid.
Citric acid was first isolated from lemon juice and
crystallised in 1784 by the renowned early chemist,
Scheele. When we realise that this was only about twelve
years after the discovery of oxygen we appreciate that
citric acid has a long and revered history amongst
chemical compounds. Most others were discovered long
after this date. Prior to that the entire chemical world
laboured under an archaic and hopelessly misleading
theory known as the "Phlogiston Theory". The fact that
the discoverer sourced citric acid from lemons forged an
immediate association between the acid and those fruit
known as citrus fruits, namely, citrons, lemons, limes,
oranges and grapefruit. These are, indeed, good natural
sources of citric acid but it can also be found in
pineapples, pears, peaches, figs, currants, cranberries, beets
and some other fruits and plant tissues. Hence the
occurrence of the acid in any substantial concentration in
nature is closely connected with fruit. Most importantly,
it is an entirely natural substance and is so widely
accepted as a natural food additive that hundreds of
thousands of tons of it are produced annually
worldwide and used mainly by the food industry (70%
of world production).
We are used to hearing about food additives of
questionable safety but this particular one seems quite
different and we have never encountered any negative
reports concerning its use, after many years of working in
the field.
The roles of citric acid in the food industry include a main
role as an acidulant and secondary roles as flavour
enhancer, preservative, preventer of turbidity and
oxidation, bestowing a "cool" taste, colour modifier,
inverter of sucrose sugar in confectionery, neutraliser,
emulsifier in ice cream and a producer of effervescence.
It is used mainly for beverages, wines, confectionery, jams
and jellies, frozen foods and dairy products. Non-food
industries that use it are pharmaceuticals (12% of world
production), cosmetics, detergents, tanning and textiles
and it can be used in treatment of boiler water. The
United States and Europe, including the UK are the
principal world producers, since the requirement arises
out of a "sophisticated" food industry manufacturing many
formulated products.

Production of citric acid commercially began in 1860 in
England using calcium citrate as a source, imported from
Italy. The ultimate source of the starting material was
the Italian citrus fruit industry. France, Germany and the
USA had followed suit by 1880, with the Italians still
providing the raw material. Italy began to produce citric
acid itself in 1913 and by 1922 had gained a stranglehold
over world production, of which it accounted for some
90%. Their cartel charged very high prices. This
provided a business incentive to try to produce citric
acid by other means.
As early as 1893 Wehmer had recognised that citric acid
not only occurs in fruit but is also produced by some
micro organisms. Could it ever be that using microbes of
some kind could circumvent dependence upon the citrus
industry? This could be an attractive business proposition
but would require some technology that was simply not
available at the end of the nineteenth century. Although
Wehmer's attempt to produce citric acid with the mould
Penicillium was unsuccessful, he nonetheless established
the basis for the subsequent reorganisation of the citric
acid industry.
In 1923 a plant was opened in New York to make citric
acid by a fungal fermentation technique developed by
J.N.Currie. This broke the power of the Italian cartel and
today Italy is only a very minor producer of citric acid.
The habit of obtaining the acid from citrus fruit quickly
disappeared as being uneconomic and all production
came to be based upon fermentation methods. The
earlier methods of citric acid fermentation were called
"surface cultures" in which the mould was grown upon
the surface of a liquid growth medium containing
nutrients for the fungus. The growth medium contained
sugary mixtures and was spread in a shallow layer in wideopen pans. This was subsequently replaced by a much
more efficient method called "submerged culture" in
which the mould was distributed through the entire
volume of the growth medium in huge cylindrical vats or
"fermenters" kept stirred during operation by fast rotors
driven by very powerful motors. The most successful
fungus to emerge from this development was the mould
Aspergillus Niger and although other organisms have
also been used, this tends to take pride of place within
the industry.
It is interesting to ask why this organism accumulates citric
acid. If one feeds it with sugar (either molasses or beet
sugar) as an energy source for its metabolism, the
organism will gain most energy and support its
metabolism in the best way if it can break down the sugar
completely into carbon dioxide and water. Citric acid is
an intermediate metabolite in the process. For the
organism to stop at that point is inefficient because the
citric acid that it produces still contains the greater part
of the energy available from the sugary starting material.
It emerges that for the first 24 hours of growth the
organism does break down sugar completely and obtains
the full energy available from doing so. However, as this
happens the medium acidifies and the actions of the
mould's enzymes are changed. With acidification, the
enzyme that forms citric acid (citrate condensing enzyme)
increases its activity, while the enzymes that break down
citric acid are inhibited. These are the enzymes isocitric
dehydrogenase and aconitase. These relate to stages in
the "citric acid cycle".
Obtaining citric acid in this way is efficient and yields of it,
based upon the amount of sugar supplied, can approach
quite close to 100%. The acid is really no less "natural"
made in this way than obtained from fruit, since it is still
the product of an organism, not synthetic. Ways exist to
synthesise citric acid but these have never been attractive
to exploit commercially.
Anyone who might be worried about mould allergies can
be assured that the purified citric acid has been passed
through several rigorous stages of separating and
purification and that all traces of the mould itself should
have been removed at the first stage.
So once you have selected only the very finest mineral
raw materials, what are the issues that surround the
design on a nutritional formulation?
There follows a surge in citric acid production together
with a loss of the power for the onward conversion of
citric acid into other products, exactly the conditions
required for citric acid accumulation. The fermentation
techniques have become very sophisticated because the
economic incentives are large. Nowadays certain known
enzyme inhibitors are added to the medium to
accentuate the inhibition of those enzymes that normally
catalyze the onward conversion of citric acid. The
technique requires, therefore, deliberately rendering the
organism less efficient in producing its own metabolic
energy so that it will, instead, make the citric acid we want.
Once the medium in which the organism has grown has
reached an optimum citric acid concentration, the
medium is harvested and the mould is filtered off. Hence
the product contains none of the mould that produced
the acid. The citric acid is then removed by adding a
calcium source and obtaining a precipitate of calcium
citrate. The calcium citrate is removed, again by filtration
and washing, and citric acid is recovered by adding
sulphuric acid. This precipitates calcium sulphate whilst
the citric acid stays in solution, from which it can be
crystallized. The resulting acid can be rendered very pure
and the process is the same for all the Citrizorb® minerals.

Citrizorb® Minerals continued...
We feel that in today’s world of high tech nutrients the
traditionally used minerals are often not given the
respect they deserve, considering that they are the very
basis for our cellular health. Many of the mass produced,
so-called, one a-day multi vitamin & minerals on the
market give the impression that the formula contains a
good level of each ingredient and if all you want to
supplement is the RNI/RDA levels, this may be
adequate, but don’t forget these are the minimum, not
the optimum levels you need to stay healthy. To confuse
the issue more, these levels are often stated as gross
weights, so the product may not give you as much of a
single stated nutrient as you may think (for full details
see the glossary of terms on page 56). Alternatively, it
may be made from cheap, non organic, poorly absorbed
ingredients like carbonates (another word for chalk!!)
which will deliver a competitively priced, impressive label
claim, but without the effectiveness of organic
ingredients like Citrizorb® minerals. So as you can see
the problem with the one-a-day mineral supplement is
that the better absorbed organic minerals are often too
bulky to fit into one small capsule. (For more
information on mineral absorption please call 0845 603
5675 to request our free newsletter entitled “Citrizorb®
– The Truth About Mineral Supplementation”).
The biological role of minerals
To continue it’s life, each cell of the body must maintain
internal concentrations of sodium, potassium, calcium
and magnesium at given values. This maintains the
cellular environment as one in which cell’s enzymes can
function and internal cell structures are stable. In most
situations in Western diets, sodium is often excessive
and calcium intake is more than adequate. The supply
of potassium and magnesium therefore, become
the most important among the bulk metallic minerals.
Working in such an environment makes the
maintenance of cell integrity more difficult. Potassium is
often available from foods but only if the right food
choices are made. We feel that a wide swathe of the
population can benefit from supplementary magnesium,
leaving supplementation with potassium to be a quite
frequently selected option for the nutritional adviser.
The role of calcium – so often
misunderstood
We feel that calcium is widely overused as a supplement
but it may have real value where the diet is poor (and
will remain so) or where the individual is vulnerable to
calcium deficiency, ie females of menopausal age.
Calcium is an aid to maintaining the mineralisation of
bone but in this context it should always be used in
conjunction with magnesium, often 2-1 in favour of
magnesium and the correct balance of trace elements,
as found in the Actizorb® formulae (see page 33-34).
The role of trace element
supplementation
The trace metal elements are required in very small
amounts, as the name implies, and their role is mainly to
act as co-factors for enzyme systems in the cell. They
therefore tend to facilitate the working of metabolic
pathways in nearly all sectors of metabolism. This makes
them key in ensuring the efficient function of intracellular
processes and therefore in cellular health.
Minerals and their individual
biological functions
Calcium (macro-mineral)
Official and suggested dietary intake levels:
The Government’s RDA level is 800mg of elemental
calcium daily. However, we have found that the average
British diet tends to deliver more than adequate levels
of calcium, so the stated RDA level of 800mg is in our
mind an optimum level as this amount is often obtained
from our normal dietary sources. It is for this reason
that we do not normally recommend the use of extra
calcium as a food supplement. However, we would
consider using a supplement of calcium if the diet is low
in greens, or for children with growth issues, in
pregnancy, with women of menopausal or post
menopausal age and the elderly.
Biological functions:
The main biological functions connected to calcium are:
contributing to the maintenance of healthy cell
membranes, contributing to the management of some
physiological processes, particularly blood clotting,
muscle contraction and nerve activity. Calcium is also
noted to be a very important factor in bone density.
Dietary sources of calcium:
Good dietary sources of calcium are: milk, cheese,
green leafy vegetables (except spinach), soya bean
products, bread and other baked products. As for food
supplementation we would recommend our organic
calcium mineral – Calcium Citrizorb® 100mg (elemental
weight), product code: NC028. It also appears in
NC093 and NC095 which can be the foundation of a
comprehensive nutritional regime. You will also find
calcium citrate in our Bone Support Formula, product
code NC110. We do not recommend non organic
forms like carbonates and oxides as we feel they are
very badly absorbed.
Magnesium (macro-mineral)
Official and suggested dietary intake levels:
The Government RDA level for magnesium is 300mg.
However, we feel this is a little low and so we
recommend an optimum level of 400mg of elemental
magnesium daily.
Biological functions:
Magnesium is a cofactor in many enzyme systems
including those for protein synthesis and anaerobic
and aerobic energy metabolism. It also regulates the
movement of potassium in myocardial cells and there is
some evidence of its involvement in the synthesis of RNA
and DNA. Magnesium plays a key role in supporting
the activities of our muscles, nerves, white blood cells,
spleen, thymus, and antibodies.
Dietary sources of magnesium:
Magnesium is present in a wide variety of foods.
Magnesium is found in particularly high levels in shell fish,
with meats and dairy produce containing less. As for
supplementation we recommend our organic, high
absorption magnesium product – Magnesium Citrizorb®
100mg (elemental weight), product code: NC012 /
NC013. Magnesium Citrizorb® is also present in product
codes: NC032 / NC050 / NC093 / NC094 / NC095 /
NC096 / NC082 / NC083 / NC110 and NC084. We
do not recommend non organic forms like carbonates
and oxides as we feel they are very poorly absorbed.

Potassium (macro-mineral)
Official and suggested dietary intake levels:
The Government has not set an RDA for this important
nutrient. However, in their publication ‘Dietary reference
values for food energy and nutrients for the U.K’ (HMSO
1991) they clearly state that they can not find any
negative issues associated with potassium intake below
17,600mg daily. From research we know that the
average person consumes approximately 2 – 3,000mg
daily and we therefore believe that a good optimum
supplementary level over and above the normal dietary
intake would be 600mg – 1000mg of elemental
potassium daily.
Biological functions:
Its key role is in supporting the efficient action of cellular
enzymes and the generation of cellular energy. It also
helps regulate cell volume and the balance of fluid
between the cell and its external environment. Those
who may consider taking a potassium supplement are;
people who do not eat many greens or consume a diet
of highly processed foods, which are normally high in
sodium, those with a stressful lifestyle and people with a
highly physical job, or who partake in sports, and those
who want to support a healthy heart.
Dietary sources of potassium:
Dietary sources of potassium are: meat, poultry, fish,
fruit and vegetables. As for supplementation we
recommend our organic Potassium Citrizorb® 150mg
(elemental weight), product code: NC026. It also
appears in product codes: NC082 / NC083 / NC017.
Sodium (macro-mineral)
Official and suggested dietary intake levels:
The Government has not set an RDA for this nutrient.
However the RNI (recommended nutritional intake) for
adults is 1600mg/day and for chloride is 2500mg/day.
Interestingly COMA recommended a reduction in the
average intake of sodium chloride from food by the
adult population from the current level of 9000mg/day
(150 mmol/day) to 6000mg/day (100 mmol/day)
(COMA 1994). As sodium tends to appear in such
abundance, and an excess has been connected with
hypertension, we do not normally suggest
supplementing this mineral.
Biological functions:
Sodium, together with potassium, is an essential mineral
which helps to regulate body fluid balance. Sodium is the
most abundant cation in the extracellular fluid and sodium
salts account for more than 90% of the osmotically active
solute in the plasma and intestinal fluid. Consequently
sodium load is the major determinant of extracellular
volume. Chloride is also important in maintaining the fluid
balance and is an essential component of gastric and
intestinal secretions.
Dietary sources of sodium:
Sodium chloride occurs naturally as halite, commonly
known as rock salt, which is typically 95 – 99% sodium
chloride. The principle impurity of rock salt is calcium
chloride and magnesium chloride. Most mass processed
foods contain sodium either as a preservative or to
enhance our acquired tastes so we feel there is no need
to offer any form of sodium supplementation.
Selenium (micro-mineral &
antioxidant)
Official and suggested dietary intake levels:
The Government has not set an RDA for this important
nutrient. However the RNI’s (recommended nutritional
intake) are: males 75mcg/μg and females 60mcg/μg.
However, we feel this is a little low and would
recommend about 150mcg (elemental weight) daily, as
an optimum level.
Zinc (micro-mineral & antioxidant)
Official and suggested dietary intake levels:
The Government’s RDA for zinc is 15mg (elemental
weight) and we consider this to be a good optimum level
for supplementation.
Biological functions:
Among the multitude of functions these zinc enzymes
have, they play roles in the synthesis of nucleic acid, haem,
the oxidation of alcohol, bone mineralisation, synthesis of
urea and the repair of DNA. Those who may consider
taking a zinc supplement are people wanting to support
their immune system, sexual potency and reproductive
processes, the elderly and people who have a high level of
highly processed foods in their diets.
Dietary sources of zinc:
Rich sources of zinc are: The foremost being shell fish,
which tend to be particularly high then meat and cereals
and their products. Zinc may also be present in water,
up to 5mg per litre. As for supplementation we
recommend our organic Zinc Citrizorb® 15mg
(elemental weight), product code: NC020. Zinc Citrizorb®
is also present in product codes: NC082 / NC083 /
NC032 / NC050 / NC093 / NC094 / NC095 / NC096
/ NC030 / NC084 / NC110.
Biological functions:
Selenium is intimately associated with the prevention of
free radical damage, as a co-factor of glutathione peroxide
and as a component of the other selenoproteins is
involved in our natural oxidation reduction systems (it’s a
key antioxidant). Selenium is also a key co-factor for an
enzyme needed to support thyroid hormone function.
Dietary sources of selenium:
Selenium occurs in all plant and animal products and in
comparable concentrations in meat, fish, fruit and
vegetables. As for food supplementation we recommend
our organic Selenium 100mcg, product code: NC053.
Other formulae that contain selenium are:
NC029 / NC032 / NC050 / NC082 / NC083 / NC030
/ NC093 / NC094 / NC095 / NC096 / NC070 / NC071.

Citrizorb® Minerals continued...
Chromium (micro-mineral)
Iodine (micro-mineral)
Official and suggested dietary intake levels:
There are no official Government RDA or RNI levels
for this micro nutrient. However, we feel that a good
optimum level of this important trace mineral would be
about 100mcg daily.
Official and suggested daily intake levels:
The Government’s RDA level for iodine is 150mcg/µg.
We feel this is a good optimum level to take daily.
Biological function:
Chromium potentiates insulin action and thereby
influences carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism.
Dietary sources of chromium:
Chromium as found in foods and food supplements are
in a trivalent form. Chromium is present in pulse, grains
and processed meats, these are all at relatively low levels
(0.13 / 0.23mg/kg). The form of chromium we consider
to be best absorbed and is also available on the
EU positive list for food supplements is chromium
polynicotinate. We would recommend our organic
Chromium 100mcg (elemental weight), product code:
NC055. Chromium is also present in product codes:
NC082 / NC083 / NC032 / NC050 / NC093 / NC094
/ NC095 / NC096 / NC030 / NC084 / NC110.
Molybdenum (micro-mineral)
Official and suggested daily intake levels:
There are no official Government RDA or RNI levels
for molybdenum. However, we feel that a good
optimum level for this important trace mineral would
be about 150mcg daily.
Biological function:
Molybdenum is a co-factor for the metalloenzymes that
are oxidoreductases and is involved in the oxidation of
sulphate and aldehydes. This micro mineral also plays a
role in the breaking down of nucleic acids.
Dietary sources of molybdenum:
Molybdenum is chiefly present in plants, particularly nuts
(0.9mg/kg), canned vegetables (90.31mg/kg) and cereals
(0.23mg/kg). As for food supplementation we offer this
nutrient as part of the following product codes:
NC032 / NC050 / NC093 / NC094 / NC095 / NC096
/ NC030.
Biological function:
Iodine is a constituent of the thyroid hormone thyroxine
(T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), which are involved in the
maintenance of metabolic rate, cellular metabolism and
the integrity of connective tissue.
Dietary sources of iodine:
Major sources are sea salt (1.4mg/kg), shellfish
(1.6mg/kg) and sea fish (2.5mg/kg). Cow’s milk is also a
significant source (0.25mg/kg). As a supplementary
source of iodine we would recommend our Kelp and
Nettle 150mcg of iodine, product code: NC049. Iodine
can also be obtained from product codes: NC032 /
NC050 / NC093 / NC094 / NC095 / NC096 / NC030.
Iron (micro-mineral)
Official and suggested daily intake levels:
The Government’s RDA level for iron is 14mg
(elemental weight). However we feel there are
definitely two distinct optimum levels for iron: for males
we would recommend 5mg daily and for women 10mg
daily, with a high requirement for women in their
reproductive years. However, in specific cases where
one is trying to support the body’s haem iron levels, i.e.
in pregnancy you may need higher levels than this. To
obtain the very best out of any iron supplement we
recommend that you take an antioxidant with it,
normally vitamin C. We recommend our Oxycell.
Biological function:
Many of the key biological functions of iron depend
on its high redox potential and the ability to switch
rapidly between the ferrous and ferric forms. The
majority of functional iron in the body is bound to the
haem proteins, such as haemoglobin, myoglobin and
cytochromes, which are involved in oxygen transport or
mitochondrial electron transport. Many other enzymes
also contain or require iron for their biological function.
Dietary sources of iron:
Iron in foods occurs in two main forms, haem and nonhaem. The major sources of haem iron in the diet are
from liver, meat, poultry and fish. Non-haem sources
are flour and breakfast cereals. As one of the better
absorbed forms of iron on the E.U Positive listing, we
would recommend our product code: NC054 Iron
gluconate 25mg (elemental weight), other products that
deliver iron are: NC082 / NC083 / NC093 / NC094 /
NC095 / NC096.

Actizorb Formulae
These specialist formulae have been designed
to offer the consumer a broad spectrum of the
key nutrients we feel form the very basis of a
balanced nutritional regime. These formulae
deliver to the consumer some of the most
biologically active ingredients, mainly minerals
in the Citrizorb® form, in a convenient, cost
effective method. This is why most nutritional
regimes now start with an Actizorb® formula /
Supamag Plus or a combination of Nutrimin /
Multi B Complex / Magnesium Citrizorb® /
Calcium Citrizorb® or Potassium Citrizorb®.
At Nutrigold we feel that many of the more popular,
high profile multi vitamin and mineral formulae on the
market, though they may seem like good value for
money, often try and deliver too many different
nutrients and therefore do not deliver enough of the
important ingredients. Or they use inorganic forms
which may look impressive on a label claim but are
themselves often poorly absorbed, like carbonates
(chalk). Companies often state the gross weight of a
mineral not the active elemental weight (see glossary
page 56), which can make it look more impressive than
it really is. To make our products as effective as possible
we only use the highest quality, bioactive raw materials.
“The Actizorb formulae are the cost
effective, natural choice for any
comprehensive nutritional regime”
®
The less frequently used minerals such as boron and
molybdenum are included in the Actizorb® formulations,
as are the key antioxidant vitamins A, C, E and K. These
formulae can be used quite simply as straight-forward
multiple formulae providing broad-spectrum nutrition
or additionally they are designed to be used within a full
naturopathic regime, that can be supported with EFA’s,
Superlec, Golden Aloe and, where needed, Oxycell.
This system focuses upon the fact that many of the
nutrients in these unique formulae increase the activity
of detoxification enzymes and hence support the body’s
natural eliminative processes. The differences between
the individual formulae influence how strongly and in
what manner the eliminatory processes are supported.
All four formulae have the same basic constituents but
are then modulated by the inclusion of extra calcium
and/or extra choline and inositol. These are the
“modulating nutrients”.

“At last a multi vitamin and
mineral designed for the
British lifestyle”
Many of us feel that a multi vitamin and mineral should
deliver “everything”, meaning all vitamins and minerals
known to be important to health. However, it is true to
say that you can obtain intakes that most orthodox
nutritionalist would consider “adequate” from the average
British diet. Let’s for a moment assume that you eat fish
and chips, white bread, British sausages, fish fingers, baked
beans, instant mash, tea, coffee and the odd bar of
chocolate with the occasional cooked breakfast for good
measure! However, the saving grace in this example is
that you also consume a dinner of meat and two or three
vegetables. Our research shows this listing is not untypical
for the average British diet. Having access to this
information has allowed us to work out the average
nutritional values of this typical diet. This has enabled us
to formulate what we consider to be the most important
nutrients needed to supplement the typical British diet,
UK GOVERNMENT RECOMMENDATIONS
Why do we need to take a multi
vitamin and mineral supplement?
USA GOVERNMENT RECOMMENDATIONS
Most multi vitamin and mineral formulae are designed
and developed in America, or based on American
nutritional research and are therefore often designed to
supplement the needs of the American consumer. We
feel that many of the multi vitamin and mineral formulae
offered on the UK mass market are made from relatively
cheap, poorly absorbed ingredients and often only
deliver the RDA levels, not optimal levels. This can often
make the product seem better value for money than
the higher absorption, organic forms like Citrizorb®
minerals. We feel our British - Multi is in a class of its
own as it is one of the only formulae we know of that
has been designed based on what we consider to be
the optimal supplementary needs of the British diet
using only the highest quality, bioactive raw materials.
while leaving out the nutrients we feel you obtain enough
of or which we consider are not so important to
supplement. The British - Multi has been designed to offer
nutritional support to the whole family, however those
who may gain most from this product are the elderly,
people who drink a little more than they should or those
who do not eat enough greens.

How we calculate your
nutritional needs
Why is there no calcium in the
British - Multi?
Published figures indicate that, for example, British
women consume only 87% of the daily magnesium
recommended by the Government's expert
Committee (270mg/day, referred to as the RNI). The
UK Committee is given to making quite low estimates
of these requirements. The corresponding USA figure
is higher and British women only average 67% of the
USA recommendation. Given that something like half
the population is likely to be below average, one may
conclude that there is quite a considerable risk of
receiving much less than the RNI. Furthermore the RNI
levels are often set much lower than the levels we
would consider to be a good optimal level. We have
repeated these calculations with many other nutrients
we consider important, where needed these have been
included at levels that are often many times higher than
the RDA or RNI levels, however, neither of these have
anything to do with the USL (upper safety levels).
Although we recognise the important role that calcium
plays in our bodies, we have decided not to include
calcium in our British – Multi formula as on average the
British diet contains more than sufficient levels of
calcium, in excess of 1000mg daily, with a Government
RDA level of 800mg.
For more detailed information on the individual ingredients
in this formula see page 22 for antioxidants / page 24 for B
vitamins / page 28 for minerals.

Menopause Support Formula
What do the professionals think about the menopause?
As we are more than aware this is a natural time of life,
which brings with it so many new and interesting
challenges for women’s bodies as well as the mental
effects it may have upon them. These days the media is
constantly reminding us of the concerns that surround
the conventional approaches to supporting these
changes, and although we do not suggest that nutrition
is a direct alternative to these approaches, this is an
opportunity to see natural nutrients working at their
very best. The menopause process tends to take place
in women between the ages of forty five – fifty five,
however, everyone has heard of cases where this
process happens in much younger women. Some of the
leading complementary health practitioners feel that this
may be influenced, in part, by the diet. However,
orthodox views would tend to disagree with this idea.
Why is the menopause seen as
such a landmark?
It is unfortunate that in our western societies the onset
of the menopause is often viewed as an undesirable
period of ones life. We feel that these views and in many
cases the jokes that are made about this process often
add to the concerns a women has, not only about the
changes that are happening to her body, but also how
this process is seen by her partner, family and friends.
“Menopause Support Formula marks
a new understanding of how to
naturally support the menopause”
The results of our research
Nutrigold have researched this area in great depth and
based on our findings have put together a carefully
considered blend of natural nutrients that we feel are
important to support these processes. One of the key
areas people always associate with this time of life is the
need to maintain strong bones. Many products that claim
to support the menopause or bone strength focus nearly
all of their attention on supplying high levels of calcium,
often delivering this calcium as an inorganic mineral which
are known to be poorly absorbed, like calcium carbonate
(chalk) or calcium oxide. We feel the reason calcium is
included in nearly every nutritional formula which claims
to support this time of life is because calcium has a very
high profile in the media and so the consumer has
become convinced that any formula which can help them
during this period should contain high levels of calcium.
Although we totally agree that calcium is very important
to bone strength, we strongly disagree that there is a real
need to supplement this nutrient unless one has a diet
that is very low in greens.
The logic behind our formula
The Menopause Support Formula is one of the only
formulae on the market that breaks with the tradition of
focusing on the supply of calcium. We have done this
because our research clearly indicates that the average
British diet delivers an abundance of calcium. In our
view we can clearly see the need to supply, in amounts
that we consider to be more optimal levels, other
important nutrients and their co-factors which are
known to support this time of life and bone density.
One of the key nutrients we feel is in particular need of
supplementing is magnesium, which we have put into
this formula as a well absorbed organic Citrizorb®
mineral, so as to ensure its maximum uptake. Another
such nutrient we feel to be important to support bone
density is the often-forgotten trace mineral boron. Both
of these important nutrients are delivered with a
carefully considered blend of ingredients known to
encourage the deposition of bone and hence the more
efficient use of our dietary calcium. This comprehensive
formula also delivers a biologically active form of the
important soya isoflavones which are noted to help
support phytoestrogen activity.

Page 39
39
What foods can help support this
time of life?
Other products that support the
actions of this formula
In the past women would have had a diet that contained
a great deal less highly processed food. This would have
normally contained far higher levels of foods which we
feel offer important nutrients with estrogenic properties.
In particular these are; fruits (apples, cherries, olives,
plums, coconuts), legumes (soya beans, peanuts), tubers
(carrots, yams), members of the night family (eggplant,
tomatoes, potatoes, peppers) grains (cereal grains,
especially wheat germ, but not rye, buckwheat or white
rice). Similar components are found in yeast, fennel,
anise and liquorice. All of these foods contain
compounds with estrogenic properties. However, the
concentration of these foods differ greatly and none of
these foods deliver a comparable level in the
concentration found in the soya isoflavones, which are
included in the Menopause Support Formula.
To offer the body what we would consider to be the
optimum nutritional support we would recommend
you take along side this formula some form of essential
fatty acid product, normally our EPA Marine Fish Oil,
Golden Flaxseed Oil or our all-purpose, essential fatty
acid and antioxidant formula Red Alert. In the early part
of the menopause we recommend the introduction of
one – two capsules of our Dong Quai, product code
NC039 (see page 51).

Children’s Nutrition
Multi vitamin and mineral formula.
At last, comprehensive nutritional
cover for children of all ages:
This formula has been the result of many months
research into the important subject of our children’s
health and welfare, which has of course focused on their
daily nutritional needs. The results of our findings are
found in our new all-in-one Childs Play Formula.
These days many of us are aware of the need to address
the nutritional requirements not only of our unborn
children during pregnancy but also the importance of
addressing our children’s nutritional requirements as
they develop though their childhood into adolescence
and in particular during puberty.
“Deciding which supplement to give
your child is not Child’s Play”
From the moment we become parents we are
expected to make informed decisions on a wide variety
of issues from, should we breast feed the child, if not
which formula do we chose to replace the breast milk
to other more contentious issues like making an
informed decision on our child’s current and future
vaccinations; should this be as the commonly used MMR
vaccine, or as separate vaccinations, or as more people
believe these days none at all? Even choosing the best
schools for our children has become more confusing
than ever before, with the new school league
comparison tables, let alone the increasing need to
educate our children about the choice of only the best
foods for their daily diets, while so many of their friends
are eating fast foods. Let’s hope Jamie Oliver’s work
with school meals will help make good food a really
important lifestyle trend for our children. However,
as parents we have so many issues to deal with
concerning our children’s futures, let alone thinking of
our own needs.
Although we know the needs of children are different
depending on their diet and lifestyle, we at Nutrigold
thought it would be a good idea to develop a good
quality multi vitamin and mineral product that will
deliver a broad spectrum of the key vitamin and
minerals needed to help support our children’s health
and development throughout their childhood and
into adolescence.
We feel that our Childs Play Formula will take the
guesswork out of supplementing our children’s needs and
is offered in an easy to swallow low potency capsule, so
you can increase the daily intake as the child grows up.
Childs Play has been formulated to deliver a carefully
considered, balanced blend of the key vitamin and mineral
nutrients which have all been sourced from only the very
highest quality, well absorbed raw ingredients.

The Pregnancy Formula
These days the need to understand what is good or bad
for us nutritionally has never been more at the forefront
of our minds with such mixed messages coming from
the mainstream media, how are we meant to know
what is good for us? Even the Nanny State seems to be
telling us more than ever how we should or shouldn’t
be living our lives and yet there always seems to be so
much controversy and hesitation when it comes to
implementing these changes to our lives.
When it comes to taking nutrients this hesitation may
well be due to the fact that all too often when you take
a supplement to help maintain a healthy heart and never
actually develop this problem, how do you know if it
really had the desired effect?. Even though we are
surrounded by high quality research papers, to support
our thoughts in this area, so often people
with no interest or little knowledge of nutrition simply
dismiss these ideas as “old wives tales”.
“These days more and more people
are turning to nutrition to support a
healthy pregnancy…”
Even in today’s climate where everyone approaches
fertility, preconception, and pregnancy care with
extreme caution most of us naturally recognise the
importance of good nutrition, which has been
successfully used for many years in this area of health.
Even the Government acknowledge the need to
increase the intake of key nutrients like folic acid (with
their recommendation of 400mcg of folic acid / three
months before pregnancy and for the first three months
of pregnancy) and most of us are more than aware of
the need for the mother to have good levels of omega
3 during her pregnancy, normally supplied as fish oils.
However, we feel that there are other nutrients that
are as equally important to these processes, like the
minerals magnesium and zinc etc. In truth most
practitioners that apply nutritional changes at this stage
understand that our nutritional standards should not
only be good to give us the very best chance, they need
to be really excellent from the moment when a
pregnancy is first contemplated.
More often than not it’s advisable not to wait until
conception has occurred to introduce these changes,
but to have a period of careful preparation to elevate
the levels of the key nutrients that are considered
important in these processes like the micro nutrient zinc
or essential fatty acids before attempting conception.
The reason for this is that one’s nutritional status at the
moment of conception is critically important in deciding
the prospective mother’s fertility, her health and the
health of the foetus.
There is really strong evidence to suggest that good
nutrition plays an important role in supporting a healthy
pregnancy. A good pregnancy requires a reasonable
freedom from heavy metals and other toxins while also
having the luxury of a regular supply of a broad
spectrum of key related natural vitamins and minerals
before, throughout and immediately after the pregnancy.
The essential minerals include magnesium, calcium, iron,
zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, chromium and
molybdenum. Sodium and potassium are vitally
important too but these are bulky and best adapted
through the diet. Among the vitamins we should
consider are; Vitamin A (although very controversial, if
delivered as a straight Vitamin A -often in the form of
Vitamin A acetate). However, you can deliver this
Vitamin A as a natural source beta carotene, which is
non toxic and does not share the health concerns of
normal Vitamin A acetate)/ the other groups we should
consider at this time are the B vitamin group and

43
vitamins C, D, E and K. The physiological and
developmental functions of these extend over the
widest possible range, touching upon growth, the
maintenance of the blood, the oxygen supply to the
tissues, and the development of the brain and the
reproductive organs. It is so important to consider
this wide range of micronutrients. When people are
pregnant they will often ask, “should I take a certain
nutrient to support the pregnancy, for example 400mcg
of folic acid”. The simple answer to this question is yes,
it can be helpful for three months before and for the
first three months of pregnancy. However we should
bear in mind that almost all the cells and tissues of the
body require the same wide range of nutrients. These
may be in different ratios in different tissues and some
tissues have special needs, like the thyroid’s requirement
for iodine. But if we focus upon the mother’s overall
supply of the key vitamins, minerals and essential fatty
acids (mainly Omega 3), we would be offering the
mother and unborn child a truly comprehensive
nutritional regime.
It is a rather small proportion of mothers today who
apply anything like the fullest measures to ensure healthy
pregnancy and healthy babies. Ideally diet, detoxification
and exercise should all be applied for 6 months before
conception and should all be maintained afterwards.
The Pregnancy Formula is designed to provide the
necessary input of micronutrients. Note that the
prospective father also requires nutritional attention to
optimise his fertility.

Joint Support Formula
A well balanced approach to healthy joints…
With today’s ever evolving lifestyles and dietary changes
there is a growing need to look at natural ways to
support our all important joint and connective tissues.
Orthodox approaches, although they have a more
immediate effect, tend to be used once you have a
problem, which normally come in the form of painkillers,
anti-inflammatories or steroids.
Nowadays there are a growing number of people who
are looking into natural ways to support their joint and
connective tissues through dietary supplementation.
When you look in to the subject there are so many
different ingredients recommended to help, how could
you possibly know which ones to take?
To help our consumers make an informed decision on
how best to support their joints and connective tissue,
we set our technical team the task of reviewing all the
available research and then challenged them to
formulate the ultimate, well balanced, natural nutritional
formula, using only the highest quality ingredients. This
they did,and we call this product Joint Support Formula.
“Joint Support Formula,
offering a more flexible
way of life”
This unique formula contains the key nutrients that we
feel are specifically needed to support the structural
tissues such as bone, muscle, cartilage, tendons etc. We
believe you should not just address one single nutrient
at any one time, but rather supply several nutrients
together as they work synergistically to support the
health and durability of these tissues.
The nutrients in this formula deliver a precise
programme of faster and slower-acting elements, in
which each of these nutrients underpin and support the
action of the others. By combining these key nutrients
we feel the consumer has a complete planned approach
to supporting joint health, that is safe to use on a longterm basis.
MSM – Methylsulfonylmethane
MSM is a very popular natural ingredient, which has
been successfully used to support joint and connective
tissue for many years. It is naturally widespread in many
natural foods and is also found in water, and is not, as so
often thought, a new chemical gimmick. Research
indicates that this wonderful ingredient may play a key
role in the biochemical processes that are known to
support the skeletal system, especially joints.
Glucosamine HCL
In recent years glucosamine has become one of the most
popular scientifically researched natural supplements
offered in the complementary health market to support
joints and connective tissue. Glucosamine is noted to
help support the body’s important structural tissues,
especially those that need both carbohydrate and
protein in combination, these are called proteoglycans.
Although our bodies naturally create glucosamine,
we feel it is important to supply some ready-made
glucosamine as a nutrient rather than relying solely on
our bodies’ natural production processes.
Manganese
A natural trace mineral which has many different
functions, however the one we are particularly
interested in on this occasion is its role in supporting
the growth and integrity of connective tissues.

45
Therefore it is important to make sure we have
sufficient manganese in any comprehensive joint and
connective tissue regime.
A balanced approach to
nutritionally supporting joints
and connective tissue
Boron
Every day the media is full of reports telling us about
the latest ingredient that can help support our joints and
connective tissue. However, we feel the truth is that
you need a balanced blend of several key nutrients that
are known to address the short and long term health
needs of the joint and connective tissues. Many of these
key nutrients tend to work synergistically – that is to say
– having more effect when used together than in
singular form. That means a combined formula has
distinct advantages over single nutrients and this is why
we recommend Joint Support Formula for all of your
nutritional joint and connective tissue needs.
A natural trace mineral; boron has recently been shown
to play an important role in supporting healthy calcium
and oestrogen levels in women of postmenopausal age
and is noted to be a key nutrient for supporting the
structural integrity of bones for all ages.
Niacin
Niacin (vitamin B3 as nicotinamide) is one of many
vitamins known to support general cell metabolism and
energy production and is required for this purpose
throughout the body. The literature reports that this
nutrient may also help to support the skeletal system
and so it is thought to be a wise idea to supplement
this nutrient.
NUTRITIONAL TIP
This product works very well in
combination with essential fatty acids,
particularly omega-3. We therefore
recommend you support its use with
OmegaSmart, EPA Marine Fish Oils,
Golden Flaxseed Oil, Red Alert (see page
16). To further enhance its activities we
also recommend the use of our Golden
Aloe Vera (see page 12).

Consumer note
You will note that this formulation does not contain
chondroitin, which in itself is quite unusual, consumers
have often asked us why this nutrient is not included in
our product. Our research indicates that this very
expensive nutrient is often not well absorbed, and it is
for this reason that we feel it is not a very cost effective
ingredient to use in a formula. Even if we did, you would
need to use much larger amounts than is often delivered
by normal food supplements.

Bone Support Formula
The backbone of an effective bone support regime.
Women over the age of forty five and many of the U.K’s
senior citizens may benefit by supplementing their diets
with this remarkable new product, which supplies
important nutrients to support bone density.
The approach of protecting your bone density naturally
is a well documented approach, which is supported by
a large amount of scientific research. This approach has
gained great respect and is now considered to be
common place in the complementary health market.
Because of this more and more people, especially
women, prefer to use these natural regimes. Another
good reason to supplement our diets is to nutritionally
support certain modern western diets, which
sometimes offer relatively low levels of important
micronutrients.
Populations that largely enjoy freedom from such issues
generally use very few highly processed foods. Often
this is a diet that leans more to the ideals of organic
agriculture, where as many of our western diets are high
in protein and dairy products. These factors can
discourage the uptake of natural minerals from our diet
into our bones. Western diets are often also found to
be low in flavonoids, such as the proanthocyanidins,
which have the ability to stabilise the ground substance
in bone onto which bone mineral is laid. Lastly, western
diets can be low in the Omega-3 fatty acids, unless a
substantial amount of fish is eaten. These acids are
needed for optimum retention of bone mineral.
“A natural approach to supporting
healthy bones for most ages”
Dietary factors involving phytoestrogens seem to
influence the very different experiences of western and
eastern women at the time of the menopause and
people of both sexes require a range of micronutrients
to help ensure continued bone health.
Calcium
As many of our consumers know, at Nutrigold it is very
rare for us to supplement extra calcium and for this
reason most of our formulae do not deliver this nutrient
as we feel most people get more than sufficient levels of
this mineral from their diet. However, we have opted to
included calcium on this occasion, as a well absorbed
organic form, calcium Citrizorb®. We feel this natural,
organic form allows the body to decide for itself
whether to use or reject this mineral, as some people
with poor diets, the elderly in particular may need to
address this nutrient.
Magnesium
Magnesium is a co-factor for the enzyme alkaline
phosphate, a particularly important enzyme in bone.
Magnesium also supports the conversion of vitamin D
to its active form. There are several scientific trials that
demonstrate the importance of magnesium in bone
health. As an important nutrient for bone health and
because we feel that the average British diet could do
with a little extra magnesium so we have decided to
include this important mineral in our formula.

Page 47
47
Zinc and Manganese
Zinc and manganese are natural minerals that are
necessary for bone formation and mineralisation and this
has been reconfirmed many times in scientific studies.
Vitamin K
Research has uncovered a link between a woman’s
status in vitamin K and her ability to deposit bone
mineral.Vitamin K is naturally found in green vegetables.
Other ingredients and nutrients that have been
demonstrated to play a role in bone health are: horsetail,
chromium, copper and Vitamin C.
A supportive combined supplement
formula for helping maintain
bone strength
A nutritional formula specifically able to provide
supportive nutrition for the skeleton is a great step
forward. Many people choose to supplement their diet
with individual nutrients rather haphazardly. By contrast
the Nutrigold Bone Support Formula brings together
combined nutrients, most of which have been shown
through published data to be individually supportive of
various physiological processes. Several of these are
primarily aiding bone mineral density (like zinc,
manganese and vitamin K), others help with the nonbone-related processes too (like vitamin E) and still
others seem to affect both these aspects (like boron
and chromium). Similarly, by directly providing extra
supplies of phytoestrogens, either through the diet or
by a supplement of soya bean isoflavones, one can also
expect to benefit the maintenance of bone mineral.
Our Bone Support Formula is based on this cuttingedge research.
Relevant lifestyle changes
All aspects of dietary care should preferably be
observed. People vary in their willingness to follow diets.
The Nutrigold Bone Support Formula is designed to
support the maximum percentage of users. However,
the supportive effects will be greatest when the diet and
lifestyle precautions are followed, as set out below.
• Eat plenty of fresh unprocessed vegetables and fruit.
• Limit or avoid processed foods.
• Women are recommended to use soya products in
the diet or to take a supplement of soya isoflavones in
addition (see product NC001 for more details).

Hair, Skin & Nails
In today’s high pressure society, where our very
appearance is thought to make a real difference
to our potential careers and social life, many of
us spend a large percentage of our disposable
income on a wide array of cosmetic and beauty
products, to help maintain an image of health
and wellbeing, from the more intense
approaches plastic surgery, with tummy tucks
and facelifts to specialist everyday consumable
products like special shampoos that give your
hair an extra natural shine.
The cosmetic industry has to hand the resources to
invest in research to help them understand the
properties of many well known natural ingredients like
Aloe Vera for skin and hair quality, in fact Aloe Vera is
still better known as an ingredient that is found in
toiletries like soap and shampoo. However, these
natural substances often have an equally important role
to play if consumed internally.
“As many of us know, true beauty is
more than just skin deep, it comes
from within”
How many of us really stop
to consider that by making
the right dietary choices
and even considering
supplementing our diet
further with a specialist
multi vitamin and
mineral formula that
we might be able to
reduce the signs of
early aging from within.
You have to remember
that our skin is the
largest organ of the
body and is used to excrete large amounts of waste
matter from the body on a daily basis. Therefore, when
considering our overall skin health, surely we should at
least spare a thought for the internal functions of our
body that can affect our hair, skin and nail quality.
To help us address these basic nutritional needs, we have
developed a specialist multi vitamin and mineral
formulation that provides only natural active raw
materials that supplement the needs of our hair, skin and
nail growth, by supporting collagen synthesis, an
important substrate for hair and for our scalp tissues.
This formula also contains important antioxidants that
are well known to help protect our skin tissues, and
amino acids which are needed to support our hair and
scalp health.
As always with any Nutrigold product, all the ingredients
we use in the formula are provided in forms which are
demonstrated to be readily absorbed and assimilated
by the body, these ingredients are also all suitable for
both vegetarians and vegans.

Water Filters and Juicers
If your healthy lifestyle means only the purest water is good enough, why not
take a look at Nutrigold’s wonderful range of water filters and distillers?
There is no doubt the quality of the water you drink
each day makes a vital contribution to your health,
fitness and wellbeing. Environmental pollutants present
water treatment plants with ever increasing problems.
Each day they try to remove up to 800 different residual
chemicals, from oestrogen to rust.
Did you know that over half of British adults now prefer
to drink bottled mineral water? But many of these
people would be shocked to learn that European
standards for factory bottled water are actually lower
than for ordinary tap water.
We feel the reality is, very little of the water we drink meets
the standard that we should be able to expect. The real
difficulty is, that the consumer is seldom in a position to
know a good quality product from a lesser quality product.
However, with the introduction of home water filtration
one can overcome this concern in an economical manner.
Bottled water – How fresh?
How pure?
To address any concerns over the quality of our bottled
water, more and more people are turning to the one
solution that is firmly in their own hands – installing a
water filtration and purification unit into their own home
water system.
Nutrigold’s SP118 Water Distiller &
SP121 Dol-Fyn Distiller
These are water purifiers by steam distillation and
carbon filtration effectively removes in excess of 99.8%
of most tap water impurities such as bacteria, dissolved
solids, heavy metals, chemicals, pesticides, insecticides,
cryptospiridium giardia etc.

Water and your health
“Addressing the quality of our
water is an important part of
any health regime”
• We feel that most people do not drink enough
water for optimum health.
• We feel the average person needs to drink at least
3-6 pints of water every day or more if it is hot or
you exercise.
• Drinking water helps your body to eradicate
drugs, toxins and other pollutants (even caffeine)
more quickly.
• Dehydration may reduce your concentration levels.
• Water is needed to help maintain a healthy
digestive system.
• Water is needed to help maintain a healthy
immune system.
• Water is needed to help maintain good skin and
hair quality.

These filters give the added peace of mind that you have
chosen the leading British water purification system. In
fact, UK scientists are acknowledged world leaders in
filtration technology and the SP123 has been designed
to incorporate the most advanced purification
technology perfected in this country. It is also specifically
configured to match our own national water quality
situation, retaining minerals and trace elements (essential
for good health) whilst removing more pollutants than
any other single cartridge system. These systems carry
a 10 year guarantee.

Whole House Filters
Nutrigold’s SP130 Reverse Osmosis
(RO) Distiller
Bringing Juicing in to the
21st Century
Washing with unfiltered water can be harmful to
sensitive people. The chlorine and other chemicals in
water can dry the skin causing itching, flaking and
cracking. This can be particularly severe for people
suffering from eczema and psoriasis. The whole house
unit is designed to remove the most common
contaminates from all the water in the house: these
include chlorine, pesticides, herbicides, phenols
and sediment.
Reverse Osmosis is the method of purifying liquid by
pushing it through a semi-permeable membrane. In the
case of tap water, the membrane allows pure water for
the provision of a constant supply of contaminant and
mineral free drinking and cooking water. Using R.O.
membrane technology, it is possible to remove
suspended solids, up to 98% of all dissolved solids, as
well as virtually all bacteria, pesticides, insecticides
and viruses.
The average person uses 150 litres of water per day for
drinking, bathing and washing. The wholehouse system
comes in two sizes.
The RO System offers:
• An unlimited supply of pure, fresh water for less than
3p a litre.
• Improved taste, odour and appearance of your water.
• You can use 30% less coffee and still enjoy the taste
you like. Concentrated fruit drinks are fresher
and tastier.
• No more limescale in your kettle or coffee machine.
Improves the taste and texture of vegetables, soup
and sauces.
The Green Star 1000 Juicer will juice anything from
carrots and apples to wheat and barley grass, herbs
and even pine needles. This revolutionary design
incorporates twin helical gears rotating at 110 rpm
which grind, and compress the raw produce, expelling
the juice and pulp into separate containers. Unlike
ordinary juicers, little or no heat is generated by this
single step process, therefore the precious enzymes and
vitamins are retained in the drink. At the core of each
gear is an inline series of magnets totalling 2600gauss
that enhances the extraction of more minerals from any
produce that is juiced. The juicer comes fitted with a
fine screen for separating maximum pulp from juice for
use when juicing carrot, parsley, kale, angelica utilis, other
leafy vegetables and herbs
The smaller unit (SP306) has the capacity for 300,000
litres per year and is suitable for any average 4
person household.
The larger unit (SP308) has the capacity for 600,000
litres per year and is suitable for 5 or more people.
All units are designed to be plumbed in where the mains
water enters the house. We recommend that an under
sink filter unit should be fitted as well to remove possible
bacteria from drinking water.

Nutritional Regimes
for all ages...
In today’s high pressure, cut-and-thrust world, we
often forget to address our personal welfare and
although we know the importance of good health, we so
rarely seem to get time to address our personal needs.
There is an ever-increasing amount of scientific research
that indicates the growing need to supplement our diets.
In particular this research suggests the need to focus our
attention on our daily requirements for minerals, vitamins
and essential fatty acids. As a company we are very
aware of the amount of conflicting information that
surrounds nutrition, it’s sometimes over-exaggerated
benefits or the often over-hyped issues about its safety.
So we thought it would be a positive step to compile
some basic regimes for the most common issues that
our consumers may want to address. However, we feel
it is important to point out that we strongly believe the
most effective regime will always come from a
personalised nutritional consultation, with a qualified
practitioner. In the absence of this, these are some very
complete and safe-to-use regimes:
AGE GROUP REGIMES
“A natural, balanced approach
to supporting the whole
family’s needs”
CHILDHOOD (5 – 12 YEARS OF AGE)
Always take care when supplementing small children’s
diets, their body weight will need much lower levels of
supplementation in particular minerals like zinc.
• Suggested regime: Child’s Play (vitamin and mineral) 1 –
2 capsules daily, OmegaZest from 1 – 5 yrs, 2.5ml (half
tsp) daily, from 5 yrs, 5ml (1 tsp) daily and from 10 yrs,
10ml (2 tsp) daily, Golden Flaxseed Oil 1 teaspoon daily
or one EPA Marine Fish Oil capsule daily, or alternatively
Red Alert one teaspoon daily. To help digestion; 1 capsule
daily of our multi strain probiotic, Pro-otic®.
• Remember to drink plenty of purified or bottled
water daily and if needed reduce the intake of
soft drinks.
ADOLESCENCE (13 – 21 YEARS OF AGE)
As we develop through puberty there is often a need
to slightly increase our daily nutritional requirements.
• Suggested regime: British Multi (vitamin and mineral)
2 capsules daily, OmegaSmart 1 – 3 capsules daily or
Red Alert 10ml daily or EPA Marine Fish Oils 1 – 2
capsules daily. Pro-otic® and/or Golden Aloe can also
be used to support a healthy digestive system.
• Remember to drink plenty of purified or bottled
water daily and if needed reduce tea and coffee
and alcohol.
• Please do not use Golden Aloe if you are pregnant or
intending to become pregnant.
ADULTS (21 – 60 YEARS OF AGE)
Your nutritional needs have normally stabilised from
adolescence, however, there is still a necessity to
supplement our basic nutritional needs.
• Suggested regime: British - Multi (vitamin and mineral)
two capsules daily, OmegaSmart 1 – 3 capsules
daily or Red Alert 10ml daily or EPA Marine Fish Oils
1 – 2 capsules daily and Superlec 1 – 2 teaspoons daily.
Golden Aloe and/or Pro-otic® can also be used
to support.
• Remember to drink plenty of purified or bottled
water daily and needed reduce tea and coffee
and alcohol.
• Please do not use Golden Aloe if you are pregnant or
intending to become pregnant.

55
SENIOR CITIZENS (60 YEARS PLUS)
Your needs do start to change as you age however,
these are often supplemented on a more
individual basis.
• Suggested regime: British - Multi (vitamin and mineral)
two capsules daily, OmegaSmart 1-3 capsules daily or
Red Alert 10ml – 15ml daily, or EPA Marine Fish Oils
1 – 2 capsules daily, and Co Enzyme Q10 30mg 1
capsule daily. Golden Aloe and/or Pro-otic® can also
be used to support digestion. Another product that
can be useful at this time in life is our Phosphatidyl
Serine 100mg 1 – 2 capsules daily.
• Remember to drink plenty of purified or bottled
water daily and if needed reduce tea and coffee
and alcohol.
CONCEPTION AND PREGNANCY
PRE-CONCEPTUAL
To help support a healthy conception, we would suggest
doing some nutritional groundwork.
• Suggested regime: Calcium Magnesium Complex
(Actizorb®) 2 – 4 capsules daily, EPA Marine Fish Oils
1 – 2 capsules daily, and one capsule of Folic Acid
400mcg daily.
• Remember to drink plenty of purified or bottled
water daily and if needed reduce tea and coffee.
PREGNANCY
In pregnancy the mother’s nutritional needs are very
closely linked with that of the baby, this is one of the few
times we sometimes recommend the introduction of a
calcium supplement.
• Suggested regime: Calcium Magnesium Complex
2 – 4 capsules daily, EPA Marine Fish Oils 1 – 2
capsules daily, and for the first three months of
pregnancy we would recommend one capsule of Folic
Acid 400mcg.
• Remember to drink plenty of purified or bottled
water daily and if needed reduce tea and coffee.
DIGESTIVE SUPPORT
To help support the often challenging role of digesting
our ever increasing fast food diets.
• Suggested regime: Golden Aloe 20 – 40ml daily and
Pro-otic® 1 – 2 capsules daily.
• Remember to drink plenty of purified or bottled
water daily and if needed reduce tea and coffee
and alcohol.
• Please do not use Golden Aloe if you are pregnant
or intending to become pregnant.

JOINT AND CONNECTIVE
TISSUE SUPPORT
To help support healthy joint and connective tissue in
all ages.
• Suggested regime: Joint Support Formula 1 – 3
capsules daily, OmegaSmart 1 – 3 capsules daily or
EPA Marine Fish Oils 1 – 2 capsules daily and
Golden Aloe 20 – 40ml daily with water.
• Remember to drink plenty of purified or bottled
water daily and if needed reduce tea and coffee
and alcohol.
• Please do not use Golden Aloe if you are pregnant

Glossary of terms
Throughout this catalogue you will
find technical terms or industry jargon
which may not mean anything to you.
To help you follow their meanings fully
we have laid these out in an easy to
understand format.
Citrizorb® –This is Nutrigold’s brand name for citrate
minerals. Citrates are natural, organic minerals that are
generally acknowledged to be one of the highest
absorbed forms of mineral supplementation. These have
been used safely by complementary practitioners for
many years and are one of the few mineral forms that
are backed by many high quality, scientific research
papers. Citrates are a very popular mineral source
because they have a low toxicity and are readily
absorbed by the body’s natural processes. They are
one of the few forms of mineral supplementation to
be approved by the new EU Positive listing for
food supplements.
Bioactive – This is a term we use to convey the
message that the products you buy with this term will
be made from some of the highest quality, biologically
active nutrients available in today’s health market.
Actizorb® – A unique range of carefully balanced
nutritional formulae, which have been designed to support
nutritional practitioners by delivering a broad spectrum of
natural, bioactive supplementation in one cost effective,
easy to take product. For flexibility we have developed
several such formulae. These now form the basis of nearly
every nutritional regime we recommend.
Batch Number – A unique combination of numbers
and/or letters which specifically identify a batch or lot and
from which the production and distribution history can
be determined.
ISO900 – This a term that describes a certification
program to judge the companies overall competence.
Many of the leading manufactures use this process to
manage their daily business processes.
Bioavailability – The efficiency with which any
dietary nutrient is used in the body.
Identity Protected (IP) – An auditable trail of
testing from source to end product to identify that a
product has not become contaminated i.e. Genetically
Modified ingredients.
Elemental Weight – The weight of the active
element of the capsule ie Magnesium Citrizorb® 625mg
of which the elemental weight of magnesium present
is 100mg.
Essential Amino Acids – Amino acids that
cannot be synthesized by human and other vertebrates
and must be obtained from the diet.
Microgram (mcg or µg) – A unit of weight
1000mcg/µg = 1 mg.
Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs)
The group of polyunsaturated fatty acids required in the
human diet.
Milligram (mg) – A unit of weight 1000 mg =
Excipient – A more or less inert substance added in
a capsule or tablet as a dilutent or vehicle, or to give
form or consistency i.e.microcrystalline cellulose.
Nutrigold actively looks to reduce, and where possible,
eliminate the use of excipients.
RE – Retinol equivalents in mcg, a unit of potency used
to compare equivalent forms of Vitamin A.
product has been manufactured in a facility that is bound
by the Good Manufacturing procedures, a well
recognised high quality industry standard.
Gross Weight – The total weight of ingredient
not the active element of the ingredient (see
elemental weight).
RNI – This indicates the official Reference Nutrient
Intake levels, which are quite different to the more
normally referred to RDA levels.
International Units (iu) – A unit of potency
usually applied to vitamins which vary from vitamin to
vitamin and the form of a vitamin. IU can be converted
to mcg and mg values.
GMP – Good Manufacturing Process. This means the
Manufactures’ Association (HFMA) and were correct at
the time this catalogue was produced.
I gram.
RDA – Recommended Daily Allowance, an adequate
intake of all nutrients is essential for health and activity
in addition to growth, pregnancy, lactation and stress,
such as infection. To compensate for variable factors
such as age, sex, height, metabolic rate, RDAs have been
set for many essential nutrients and provide criteria for
a minimal level of food provision and nutritional security.
The RDA levels therefore set the minimum levels you
need to stay healthy and have no connection with the
optimum or upper safety levels. It is not unusual for a
practitioner to recommend many times the RDA in a
nutritional regime. The RDA levels stated in this
catalogue have been sourced from the Health Food
Nutrigold value our environment and
use recycled materials where ever
possible.
