WHEN
THE
Spring 2012
WORK IS DONE, IT’S TIME TO HAVE FUN!
GABE, MERISSA, BRANDON, MATT & TYLER
(Above) earned Presidential Physical Fitness Awards
At least one hour daily the children have time to participate in some kind
of physical activity, so they can build points toward Presidential
Physical Fitness awards. These activities could be at the local ice skating
rink, the Vesta Sport Court, or in the Lee Paden Wellness Center.
BARRI, JULIA, BRANDON & MALACHI (Above) had the
highest grade point average in their cottage for the second quarter.
Grade point averages in school were higher than normal over the winter
months. At the end of each quarter the student with the highest G.P.A. is
given a trophy. Barri, Julia, Brandon, and Malachi were the G.P.A.
winners in their cottage at the end of the second quarter of school.
WINTER DOESN'T
SLOW DOWN THESE
CHILDREN
Winter activities kept everyone busy.
Extracurricular school activities, 4-H
projects, snow, farm work, and many
other seasonal activities accounted
for a lot of productive time.
Sledding and tubing are welcome
activities by the children. Last winter
did not provide many days of snow,
but enough to have some fun.

Dear Friends,
The children were elated with their Christmas gifts! Your
kind gesture provided a special Christmas memory for them.
The children and staff traveled to Plattsmouth, Nebraska to
the Masonic Home to sing Christmas carols to the residents.
The staff at the Masonic Home provided supper and treat
bags for the children. Everyone had a great time.
Each child at the Home strives to experience success in the
classroom. The Home provides tutoring and a positive
learning environment for the children. I am proud to report
that the children earned respectable grades in school during the first three quarters of the
school year.
The 4-H Chili Supper fundraiser was well attended. The Chili Supper helps financially
support 4-H projects that do not involve animals at the Home. The Purple Ribbon Club
is our only financial support for 4-H projects involving animals. Thank you to those who
gave to the Purple Ribbon Club.
Children select numerous 4-H projects at the beginning of each 4-H year. Historically,
children were encouraged to select a 4-H project related to their career choice. This is
still true. In an effort to promote service/trade related careers the children are now
offered electrical, welding, and wind generation projects. Each project should be fun and
grant them knowledge that they might need in the future.
All of the children are busy preparing for the spring and summer 4-H season. The public
speaking contest is in the spring and the fairs are in the summer. Everyone is invited to
recognize the children's 4-H achievements on Achievement Day. It will be held August
12th this year at the Home.
Your support is greatly appreciated.
