CFB Edmonton
Community Guide
September 2014 to March 2015
Offering programs, services and community
events to Defence Team members, their
families and the general public.
Des copies du guide communautaire sont disponibles en français au CRFM.
Message from the Base Commander
Even as I write this in the middle of a busy July, I already know that autumn is on the horizon and the end of
what I hope was a memorable summer for all of us. It will for many have been a time for vacation or perhaps
deployment to fight the floods. Some may have given goodbyes to old friends and families departing, and just
as many welcomes to new families arriving in Edmonton, some for the first time, and some perhaps coming
home again. Moving your family across the country, even when it all goes well, is a stressful experience. Equally
anxious for many is the anticipation of moving into a new unit and into a new job. Helping alleviate some of
those pressures brings me to this new issue of the Edmonton Garrison Community Guide. This is your guide
to a broad range of programs, activities, and services all designed to help you and your family relieve some of
the stresses of daily living, and the unique challenges of military life.
In order to serve you better, the staff at Personnel Support Programs and the Military Family Resource Centre
have come up with slightly different format for this issue, which you will see covers a longer period. While
the format may be different, it still contains something for everyone, activities for every taste and interest, all
intended to provide the best for the military families at Edmonton Garrison.
Best Regards,
DM
D.A. (Derek) Macaulay

CHILD CARE SUPPORT IN CHALLENGING SITUATIONS
The Emergency Child Care Service can provide support to CAF families who qualify during times of emergency, absence, illness,
injury or death.
EMERGENCY CHILD CARE
Ages: Birth to 17 years
Emergency Child Care provides access to child care during unexpected situations when your family care plan has failed or is
inaccessible due to the situation. Some examples include: a sudden deployment, a medical problem, family emergency or the
illness of a caregiver. The Emergency Child Care Service offers access to child care which can help you through these times.
The Emergency Child Care Service is accessible 24 hours a day to families who qualify. Weekdays between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm call
6300; weeknights, weekends or holidays call (780) 973-4011 and ask to speak to the Emergency Chaplain or follow the automated
prompts for a personal emergency.
CASUALTY SUPPORT CHILD CARE
Ages: Birth to 17 years
Through Casualty Support Child Care Services (CSCC), the MFRC can provide additional child care services to support families
of military personnel who are ill, injured or have died while serving. CSCC can be used to facilitate the family’s attendance and
participation at appointments that will help in the military member’s recuperation; to provide respite for the family; to allow the
family to participate in repatriation services; to support your family throughout the funeral and bereavement process.
CHILD CARE REGISTRY
Do you provide child care or a day home service and/or are you able to provide child care over a weekend, weekly or monthly basis
while service members are on exercise or deployed? If yes, we’d love to add you to our Child Care Registry. To register, please come
in person to the MFRC to pick up the application form. For more information contact the Child Care Coordinator.
To find out if you qualify or for more information call (780) 973-4011 ext. 6314 or
visit www.familyforce.ca/sites/Edmonton
ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A CHILD CARE PROVIDER OR TEEN BABYSITTER?
The MFRC is often asked for information on available child care, as such, the MFRC maintains a child care registry/
resource binder. Please note the providers included are not screened. Parents are responsible for interviewing
and screening potential child care providers. We also have resources and information to aid in the search for
licensed child care centres, day homes and out-of-school care programs. If you would like to view the “Child
Care Registry” or “Teen Babysitter List”, please visit the MFRC or contact the Child Care Coordinator.

Swimmer 5: These swimmers will master shallow dives, cannonball entries, eggbeater kicks, and in-water backward somersaults. Surface dives

Then they’ll pick up the pace in 25 m sprints and two interval training bouts: 4 x 50 m front or back crawl; and 4 x 10-15 m breaststroke.
Swimmer 6: These advanced swimmers will rise to the challenge of sophisticated aquatic skills including stride entries, compact jumps and
lifesaving kicks like eggbeater and scissor kick. They’ll develop strength and power in head-up breaststroke sprints over 25 m. They’ll easily
