Behind the Scenes of
Project Graduation
by Maya Jones
As the school year comes to an end,
Graduation Day for the senior class
approaches. These students have been
through a lot to get to this point, with all
of the classes and homework, the early
mornings and late nights, and the stresses
of requirements and grades. Soon, all of
those things will be put behind them and
they will continue on the adventure of life;
wherever it may take them. People will go
in all different directions and friends will
part ways. With all these things in mind,
Project Graduation is the perfect way to
say goodbye.
Project Graduation was created to allow
the seniors to have a great time in a safe
way. It is an all-night, alcohol and drug
free celebration on the night of graduation. Students will have time to spend with
loved ones, or time to rest up for the long
night ahead before having to check in at
the high school at 10 pm. Then they will
be transported to the Rowan University
Recreation Center. There they will have a
night full of activities, awards and good
memories. The celebration will conclude
with a breakfast back at the high school
cafeteria and a parent pick up at 6 am.
Attending this celebration is a great idea
because there will be an activity for
everyone. Activities include things like
basketball, volleyball, inflatable games,
Zumba and competitions. Students can
also use the Olympic-sized pool, the
photo booth and the gym throughout the
night. If that does not excite you the
prizes will. For starters, every attendee
wins a gift card of $25 and a chance to
win an even larger prize, such as a $750
or $1,000 Visa gift card, laptops, E-readers, and much more. It will be easy to
win because every hour 6 winners will be
called. Finally, there will be an unending
supply of food, music and surprises that
will be revealed that I cannot give away!
In order for this event to run smoothly,
there is a lot of planning that is required.
Faculty, parents and even students work
very hard to make Project Graduation an
awesome night. They have held many
fundraisers like elementary dances, tux
rentals, Braves apparel and so on, to raise
the money that is needed. For the Class of
2016, the targeted amount is $50,000!
According to Christine Scarpulla, the
treasurer of Project Graduation, we have

$38,000. There are current fundraisers and
donations that will help get to the goal. It
may seem like a lot of money, but that is
the needed amount. “The goal is to give
$100 per student,” stated Scarpulla. With
numbers like that, graduates are going to
leave Project Graduation feeling like
winners. For more information on Project
Graduation or on how you can help, you
can go on the Project Graduation page on
the school page at www.monroetwp.k12.

Graduation may seem like a time to be
sad, but it is the opposite. It is a time to be
proud of yourself and all of your accomplishments. It is a time to be excited for
the future that lies in front of you.
Graduation is a time to celebrate and end
your high school career with great memories, and there is no better way to do that
than to go to Project Graduation.

Out with the old...
In with the new GRADING POLICY
D
by Rasaaq Shittu
If you have not heard the news, there will be a change in the grading policy next year at Williamstown High School.
The school will be changing to the “ten-point” system. That means that the requirements for an “A” go from 93100 to 90-100 and the requirements for a “B” will go from 92-86 to 80-90, and so on. While some people have a
positive outlook on the change, others are worried about how the change will affect them. I interviewed a teacher,
and multiple students on the issue.
Richard Terruso-Senior
X
Q: As a senior, how do you feel about the change
happening now?
A: " It seems a little late now. I would have appreciated
the change earlier in my high school career.”
Q: How do you feel about the grading policy
change?
A: F
or the people who were already getting A’s, it
weakens the value and achievement of that grade.”

Q: Why do you think the change took place?
A: W
e are degrading our school for the sake of sports.
I believe the change was made so that star athletes
could still play sports with lower grades.
Q: Do you support the change?
A: N

and our “A” will not have a greater value.”

Mike McIntyre-Freshman
Q: What’s your opinion of the change?
A: O
ther school districts have the “ten-point” grading
policy, and I think it makes it easier for students to
get a higher GPA. I am personally all for it.

Jason Carl-Teacher
Q: Are you a supporter of the grade policy
change?
A: Negative. It lowers the standards of our school
system. Other high schools should raise the
standards instead of lowering them.
C
Connor Anderson-Junior
Q: What is your view on the grading policy
change?
A: It lowers the standards of the school. We should be
the pioneers, encouraging others to raise standards.
I believe the purpose of the change is to please
parents.
B
Jared Radsheil-Junior
Q: How do you feel about the change?
A: I am slightly indifferent towards the change in
policy, but I think it is good we are finally doing
what other districts have been practicing. Since I
am approaching the end of high school, I don’t
care as much.

Mr.WHS
by Kah Wilson
As always, Mr. WHS was filled with energy and excitement. Acts
ranged from rapping, dancing, singing and even ventriloquism. All of the
performers were great, but this show could not have been done without
each member of student council taking their time to make the show truly
incredible. Anya Napier put forth her time and effort to create the dances
for the night. The night ended with Jeff Goodwin winning Mr. WHS.
Here is a list of each candidate and their escort for each month.

Achievement Night was held
on May 11th in the halls of
our high school. Each year,
teachers and students come
together to display the best
work from the school year.
Projects come from nearly
every course offered in the
school which also includes
live performances by the art
department in the theater.
Mr. Zane, once again, did
an amazing job organizing
and putting the night together. Many parents, teachers,
administration, students and
friends attended the event. It
is a great night to see all the
hard work students have put in
throughout the year.

You wait for him to give you answers.
You don't know what answers you want,
Or what answers you need,
But you do know you want him to know.
He gives you nothing.
Perhaps you could turn this around and say that's what you needed.
What you wanted.
Nothing.
But lying has never been your strong suit.
And it has never been his either,
But concealing,
Deceit by omission,
Were trades he so proudly utilized.
All is quiet,
As he stares down at you in a way only someone like him could understand.
Blank and unfeeling.
Empty and gray-eyed.
And the two of you simply exist in the span of time together
Although all has told you you should not.
For if there is you,
There should be no him.
And if there is him.
There should be no you.
And yet...
Or perhaps,
You,
Or him,
Are not sharing this space,
Perhaps what is happening currently is your own desperate dream.
Your own twisted final hope.
And he,
And maybe even you,
Are a figment of some imagination.
It's still silent,
Except this strange echoing breeze,
And he continues to stare,
And in your own stubborn way,
You stare back.
But he still gives you nothing.
And perhaps,
You don't care enough,
To ask for more

LOVE LETTERS TO THE DEAD
by Ava Dellaira
It begins as an assignment for English class: write a letter to a
dead person. Laurel chooses Kurt Cobain because her sister,
May, idolized him. Cobain also died young, just like May. Soon,
Laurel has a notebook full of letters to people like Janis Joplin,
Amy Winehouse, Amelia Earhart, Heath Ledger, and more -though she never gives a single one of them to her teacher. She
writes about starting high school, navigating new friendships,
falling in love for the first time, learning to live with her splintering family. Eventually, she writes about the abuse she suffered
while May was supposed to be looking out for her. Once Laurel
has written down the truth about what happened to herself, she
can truly begin to accept what happened to May. And only when
Laurel has begun to see her sister as the person she was – lovely, amazing, and deeply flawed -- can she begin to discover her
own path in this stunning debut from author Ava Dellaira, titled
Love Letters to the Dead.

BLAZERS
Even though it’s warm out it doesn’t mean that you can’t still
dress fancy. Although they are not widely used, a blazer is
essential when you are going out for a night on the town, a
play or some formal business events. You can wear them with
black or gray jeans and a t-shirt or dress pants and a striped
button up, but never should be worn with blue jeans.
SWEATPANTS
Now for the seniors, college is coming and you know what that
means: sweatpants time! You don’t need to dress fancy and
impress that person so they will go to prom with you anymore.
You can schedule your classes for when you wake up! If you
have clean sweatpants, you can sleep in them and then wake
up and take a shower and throw the same pants on. The best
part is that no one will care if you do! You can wear them when
it's sunny or when it's cold. Sweatpants don’t discriminate.
CROCS
Now I know what your thinking: Crocs? Really? No one wears
crocs anymore, but they are very versatile. If you work at a job
and you need some non-slip shoes, Crocs have got your feet.
For the ladies who want to show some personality, they sell
buttons to go with them and give them some flavor. Also, those
holes are not just an accessory! They allow for air flow so that
your feet don’t stink. Those are just some of the uses for
crocs. Crocs are not a fashion don’t, they’re a fashion do!
SPANISH
APHORISMS
COURTESY OF THE NATIONAL
SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY
“Aunque la mona se vista de
seda, mona se queda.”
~
This month’s Spanish aphorism
literally translates to “Although a
monkey is dressed in silk, she is still
a monkey.” It is supposed to be in
reference to the age old adage “Fine
feathers don’t make fine birds.” It
means that one’s personality and
decency is not based on their
outward appearance or the show they
put on when you first meet them.
One’s personality and decency are
based on something much deeper,
and the time taken to know them.
