Its summertime and pets need to be protected.
Never leave animals or children in a closed car.
It is illegal to do so. Every year, children and
pets die in vehicles. Inside, within 20 minutes,
the temperature may reach up to 125’.
Cracking the windows does not help. Nevada
State Law NRS 574.195 prohibits leaving a pet
unattended in a parked car, with up to a $1,000
fine. Call City of Fernley Animal Control Officer
at 775-784-9801 or the Lyon County Sheriff’s
Office 24 hour Dispatch at 775-577-5023 if you
observe this. Backyard pets need shelter plus a
source of food and water. Take care of those
you love. A responsible suggestion from Animal
Rescue Group of Northern Nevada (ARGONN).

OUR FIRST ADOPTION FAIR
According to associates and organizers, Barbara
and Lillian, “ARGONN’s first pet adoption fair this
past Saturday proved the importance of working
together for the welfare of our pet population.”
The local non-profit wants to extend a thanks
to Dr. Laura Remson, DMV, for the use of Fernley
Animal Care’s parking lot for the Main Street,
Saturday event. Enthusiastic volunteers, drawn
from both Fallon and Fernley, included 6
members from the newly formed Fernley 4H Cat
Project leader, Mrs. Jana Ruck. A team from
Fallon Animal Welfare Group (FAWG) shared an
impressive selection of adoptable adult lap cats,
complete with detailed biographical sketches at
the fair.
Visitors to the tented display took home half
a dozen new pets, as well as invaluable
information on spay and neutering, tips on
protecting animals during the summer months
and how to play a role in regional programs.
“We feel that our new supporters will help us
spread the word about local pet projects, and
how to find adoptable pets in our region,”
observed ARGONN president, Vanessa Stuart.
Public Relations associate, Pam Doerr, thanks
members of the business community and the
Fernley Chamber of Commerce for their
invaluable support in communicating
details about the event.
Information on 4H activities in Fernley may
be obtained from the University Cooperative
Extension Agency office in Yerington by calling

CAT of the Month.... SIMBA
Simba was dropped off at our mobilhome
park in Dec 2011. He quickly found our place
and the ferals that we feed. We named him
because with his winter coat he reminded us
of Simba the lion. He was obviously a very
tame 2 yr old that wanted lots of attention.
We have had him neutered and he is current
on his shots and
ready for adoption.
However he has become attached to us and
we to him, so he is our outdoor cat for now.
He hangs around our yard and helps us
whenever we are out working in it.
