Dear friends of Isabel Bloom,
When purchasing a handcrafted piece of work,
whether it is pottery, jewelry, art for the wall; most
of us like to meet the artist. It gives the piece we
purchase more meaning, and if it’s purchased for
a gift, it gives us a story to tell the recipient.
Many of you come to our signing events for this
reason, and I’ve enjoyed meeting you.
I hope you also take the opportunity to
experience our free tour of our handcrafted
process, and see our talented artisans in action,
as they cast and put the finishing touches on each
sculpture. We all love meeting our customers!
You give our sculptures added meaning. So, we’d
just like to say a very heartfelt thanks for being an
important part of the Isabel Bloom tradition.

Our founder, Isabel
Bloom
Born in 1908, Isabel Scherer studied painting at the Art Institute of Chicago
before studying sculpture at the Stone
City Art Colony under
Grant Wood in the early 30’s. It was there she met a
gifted artist, John Bloom whom she later married in1938.
American Master,
Inspired by her experience at Stone City, Isabel continued sculpting. Her
subjects ranged from animals and children to whimsical figures of mermaids
and strong portrayals of women. Later, Isabel began experimenting
with her art, replicating the bronze sculpture of the Victorian era using
concrete or cast stone. She developed the technique of “greening” by
mixing blue and green dyes with water and fine white powdered cement to
resemble the bronze
and green shades of garden sculpture.
Today, the Isabel Bloom collection rests in the talented hands of designer,
Donna Young, Isabel’s long-time protégé who continues to preserve
Isabel’s unique style.

Isabel’s husband, John Bloom (1906),
a native of Iowa drew inspiration from
his immediate surroundings and
personal experiences. During his
sixty- year career as an artist, Bloom
produced work ranging from large
murals to intimate studies, sculptures
to lithographic prints and easel
paintings. His interest in depicting
local, American subject matter reflects
his life-long commitment to
Regionalism, a movement popular
during the Great Depression.

Giving Back to the Community
This year, Isabel Bloom has once again partnered with
not-for-profit organizations local to our showrooms and
created exclusive designs to help raise funds in support of
causes such as the arts, breast cancer research and the
fight against domestic violence. Featured below are
some of the highlights from 2014.
2014 Annual Race for the Cure
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure held in Moline, Illinois and
Des Moines, Iowa. Both events are affiliates of the Susan G. Komen
Foundation and breast cancer research.

Festival celebrating the lives of John and Isabel Bloom hosted
by The Village of East Davenport spotlighting sculptures designed
and created with recycled materials by local school children and
