time telling the tale of four intersecting fates in a soon-to-be railroad boomtown.
Henry Fonda is cast against type as the exceedingly ruthless villain, Frank.
Bronson enjoys taking over the spotlight from Clint as the wandering, nameless
gunslinger ‘Harmonica.’ And Cardinale and Robards are superb as the mismatched widow-in-danger and her n’er-do-well protector. The real stars, however,
are Leone’s bravura mise-en-scene and Ennio Morricone’s gripping score.

and cinemas – today. If you’ve ever picked up an issue of Giant Robot, watched
Kids, bought clothing designed by Obey, or seen an ‘Andre The Giant Has A
Posse’ sticker, you’ve likely been influenced by them too!

elves, dwarves, orcs, wizards, walking-and-talking trees, and sundry other magical

and Jackson does an admirable job translating this daunting work to the screen
with a dazzling array of visual effects. Jackson developed most of the technology
solely for the purpose of adapting these books – some long before the deal was
made to allow him to do it. Many of the actors in the film lobbied hard to get the
parts they wanted (star Elijah Wood even went so far as to wear a hobbit costume
to one audition) and they truly shine on screen. Join us on the epic journey as we

detective who finds himself obsessed by (at least) two versions of

In this sumptuous, Technicolor masterpiece Jimmy Stewart plays
L.B Jefferies, a photographer confined to a wheelchair by a broken
leg, who begins to spy on the other tenants in his apartment complex. A hobby born of boredom turns to obsession when Jefferies
begins to suspect that he has inadvertently witnessed a murder.
With the help of his girlfriend Lisa (Kelly), Jefferies begins to
engage in a potentially fatal game of cat and mouse with the
maybe-murderer (Burr). REAR WINDOW is an intense meditation
on voyeurism and one of Hitchcock’s finest works.

aspiring young actress (Wyman) shelters a fellow actor (Todd)
from the authorities as he is accused of killing his mistress’ husband. He insists that his lover Charlotte (Dietrich) is the real killer
and claims his innocence. However, things become complicated
with Charlotte fingers Jonathan as the real killer. A classic case of
“whodunit”, this film will leave you guessing until the very end.

A terrific confluence of talent, STRANGERS ON A TRAIN features
an adaptation by Raymond Chandler of a novel by Patricia
Highsmith for director Hitchcock. Chandler’s sharp dialogue is
front-and-center in this classic tale of two strangers who meet on a
train and conspire to “trade” murders to get rid of each other’s
human baggage and, supposedly, get off scot-free.

The Wrong Man

A true story of mistaken identity, Henry Fonda is Manny
Balestrero, a man who can’t seem to catch a break. While at a
bank attempting to borrow on his wife’s insurance policy, Manny
is mistakenly identified as the man who robbed the bank twice
before. He is arrested and the film chronicles his incarcertaion and
trial. Hitchcock beautifully details the deterioration of not only
Manny, but also his wife who slips deeper and deeper into depression, complimenting the horrors of Manny’s imprisonment with
her own.

A tale filled with murder, blackmail and mistaken identity, Father
Logan (Clift) finds himself in the middle of a murder after his caretaker confesses to him that he has killed a man. Because of the
nature of the confessional, Logan cannot go to the authorities
about the crime. However, they soon come to him but for altogether different reasons. Coincidentally, the man who was killed
had been blackmailing Logan’s former girlfriend, a fact which
points the finger of the law directly at Father Logan. Logan must
battle both the justice system, his religious vows, and the angry
public in order to bring the true killer to justice.

Released in 1960 Hitchcock’s PSYCHO capped a remarkable
decade for the director and set the mood, tone and style for just
about every serial killer film since. Unassuming Norman Bates
(Perkins) is the proprietor of the roadside Bates Motel where
unlucky beauty Marion Crane (Leigh) stops off for the night. What
follows is one of the most memorable scenes in any thriller ever –
and the rest of the film is nothing to scoff at either.

firsts: Shirley Maclaine’s screen debut and Bernard Hermann’s first
score Hitchcock.

(Kelly). Cary, Grace and the French Riviera are all eloquently ravishing and at their peaks in this Technicolor caper.

allow him to surpass the fad and create a film that works in both
regular and 3D projection.

If there's a better blaxploitation movie than TRUCK TURNER we
haven't found it – and we've looked! The late great Isaac Hayes
turns on the charm as a legendary bounty hunter with a short
temper. When he takes down a psychopathic pimp named Gator,
he inadvertently creates a power vacuum in the Los Angeles prostitution scene. Then Gator's bottom woman Nichelle ("Lt. Uhura")
Nichols (who should have gotten the Oscar, seriously) offers
Gator's orphaned whores to any mack who can take down Truck
Turner. Soon there's an open war in the streets between the wisecracking, beer-guzzling Turner and a coalition of over the top
pimps, the most dangerous being Yaphet Kotto's intense Harvard
Blue. Every line of dialogue in this movie is suitable for framing.
With over 75,000 instances of the N-word, and the most creative
use of profanity in movie history. To top it off, there's an Isaac
Hayes score and Scatman Crothers as an elderly, but still active,
pimp. It just can't get better than this. It can't! Rated R; Also

The crowning jewel of the Don'tsploitation cycle so memorably
parodied by Edgar Wright in his Grindhouse trailer. While the title
may now carry humorous echoes, it's damn good advice. It's the
story of yet another Norman Bates with yet another mother fixation but it departs from convention in one very unusual way… His
murder weapon is a flamethrower. If it sounds hopelessly cheesy,
hang in there because this movie really smokes. There are several
shots in this film that I'd rank with the best the horror genre has
ever produced and I can pretty much guarantee that you'll be
crying like a little bitch by the end. Rated R

Cullivan [86 min]
This made-in-Florida poultry-monster extravaganza represents the
outer limits of what man can hope to achieve in the arena of bad
cinema. Like Michelangelo's frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine
Chapel, we can understand easily enough the means by which the
work itself has been accomplished. What we cannot fully comprehend is the genius which pervades every frame of this remarkable
piece of crap. Steve Hawkes stars as a sideburned Elvis-look biker
with a drug problem who is recruited as a guinea pig by two
unscrupulous poultry technicians to eat an experimental turkey of
some sort. Not surprisingly, he turns into a giant turkey-headed
drug addict with a thirst for blood, blood, and more blood. In
between the brutal and hilarious murders are scenes in which the
turkey-man gets laid, shoots up, and finds Jesus. Say no to drugs,
OK? Rated R

Nunsploitation's finest hour and a half. The great, misunderstood,
but undeniably gifted Jess Franco is the most prolific film-maker
of all time (over 200 so far and still cranking them out). And for as
long as he's been making movies he has been derided, dismissed
and, most of all, ignored by virtually all mainstream critics. But
such notables as Fritz Lang, Orson Welles, Pedro Almodovar and
Quentin Tarantino have sung his praises and over the past few
years his inexpensive and surreal visual aesthetic has gained him
many new adherents. Make up your own mind about Franco:
genius, hack, or both but by all means don't miss it. It's a visually
arresting, delirious kaleidoscope of sex, torture and sacrilege
replete with the foxiest nuns you've ever seen, all set to the
accompaniment of grossly incongruous screaming psychedelic

This hilariously misguided and fun ‘exposé’ of the youth problem is
definitely a bad movie but as bad movies go it's sublime. Gorgeous
Mimsy Farmer, a walking tornado of virginal innocence and sex
appeal if there ever was one, plays the estranged daughter of
police captain Aldo Ray. When she falls in with the wrong crowd of
hot-rodding, pot smoking kids, there's going to be trouble on the
Sunset Strip. This movie is ludicrously old fashioned but it's also
strangely vital and exciting. A lot of the credit goes to Mimsy,
whose LSD freakout dance sequence is a highlight of human history. If there was a drug that could make life exactly like this movie I
would smoke it every day. Featuring The Chocolate Watchband,
The Standells and The Enemies. Miss this and you're just stupid!

This is a really top-notch sex comedy, that has some of the best
dialogue you'll ever hear and legitimately funny situations.
Against all odds, it really IS a movie about teenage hitchhikers,
their lives, loves, trials and tribulations. Plus there's a wacky
rapist! It's like a good-times intravenous drip. But if you need to be
talked into seeing a movie entitled TEENAGE HITCHHIKERS then
maybe you need to take a long look at your life and priorities. Just

Here's a movie that takes everybody off guard, even hardened
grindhouse vets. It's just impossible to believe that anyone would
be sick and depraved enough to make this movie, let alone release
it, let alone watch it. So needless to say we consider it a very great
honor to present it. It's one of those melodramas where things get
worse and worse for the heroine as she gets closer and closer to
the source of her odd sexual obsession, in this case, an unhealthy
relationship with her toys. As the story develops she spirals farther
and farther down into the nightmarish pit of her dark and convoluted fantasy life, losing her job, her husband and her dignity as
she becomes a high priced New York prostitute, specializing in
kinky roleplay. The ending of this movie is so shattering and unexpected that it leaves audiences completely stunned. I won't spoil it
for you but trust me, you want to be there to see it. Rated R

surprisingly close to the reality of a media-driven political world while peppering
its Oscar-winning script with satirical zingers. Hauntingly reminiscent of the
Kennedy years while eerily prescient about the present, this film is not to be
missed in this current politically charged climate.

Underappreciated filmmaker Giulio Questi took the approach, in
DEATH LAID AN EGG, of turning the surrealism up to 11 and letting the plot fend for itself. Most of the film takes place within a
futuristic industrial chicken production plant. Trintignant (one of
the world's most highly respected actors) and Lollobrigida star as
the husband and wife proprietors of the plant, who are developing
a new form of super-poultry (headless, wingless… a metaphor for
the human condition?). Soon Trintignant's hobby of murdering
prostitutes threatens to catch up with him and things start getting
really, really strange. As weird as it sounds, it's much weirder. The
music, camera angles and strangely clashing acting styles build to
a kind of hysterical, ridiculous intensity. Seriously recommended.

now and the first extreme snowboarding championship in Hell.
Achingly bodacious Dagmar Lassander stars as an ingénue learning the ropes (literally) from satanic Phillipe Leroy, whose whole
crib is like Six Flags for perverts. The door into and out of the sex
gym is in the shape of a giant vulva between two giant sculpted
legs! Now that our whole country seems to be slipping into some
kind of Puritan Dark Age, those of us with sex drives need to pick
up the slack for the rest of America. Won't you join us in our crusade? Not Rated

In the 60s and 70s a typical newsstand would feature rows of
cheap, colorful paperback novels. There were tons of romances
both contemporary and gothic for the women. And for the men
there was "man-pulp," detective and adventure novels featuring
lone-wolf alpha-dog heroes who typically travelled to exotic locations, engaging in fistfights, copulating freely with the green-eyed
lovelies and generally avoiding messy entanglements. Man-pulp
was eventually usurped by espionage and military techno-thrillers
for the few men who still read recreationally. But fortunately for
posterity there is one great man-pulp movie, DARKER THAN
AMBER, based on the novel by John D. MacDonald. The book is
one of the long running and very popular Travis McGee series.
McGee was a kind of proto-dropout "knight errant" who lived on a
houseboat and could only be coerced into action by the death of a
friend, a large sum of money or the pretty persuasion of a miniskirted young lass in trouble. This movie captures the feel of manpulp to a T. You can almost hear the pages turning. With Rod
Taylor, Suzy Kendall and, most memorably, biker movie great
William Smith who damn near rips Taylor's arm off in the climactic fight scene. This movie so impressed Bruce Lee that he insisted
on director Clouse for his American debut Enter The Dragon.

along with her delusional husband (Benny) are engaged in a nightly production of Hamlet at the local theatre. One night Maria meets
a love-stricken young pilot and the two enter into a secret love
affair which is carried out while her husband delivers the famous
“To Be or Not to Be” monologue in the play. However, their love
is threatened when an undercover Nazi spy infiltrates the theatre
and attempts to woo Maria to the side of the Third Reich. Trust us,
it’s a comedy.

attempts to woo her back under his wing for a new show are
rebuked as it turns out that Garland has taken on not only Jaffe’s
talent, but his tempestuousness as well. It’s a race to see what’s
faster: the spitfire dialogue or the streamlined locomotive.

Carole Lombard was one of the great actresses of Hollywood’s golden age.
Despite the fact that her life was cut tragically short in a plane crash at the age of
32, she starred in some of the most perfect comedies of the ‘30s and ‘40s.

unique status and patience to choose only the most interesting roles. She worked

Vietnam POW, Major Charles Rayne (Devane), who comes home
to find his marriage on the rocks and a son who doesn't remember
him. When a gang of scumbags take away everything he has left –
including his hand – he and his Army buddy Tommy Lee Jones hit
the road with enough rage and firepower to destroy a small
nation. It sounds great, right? But can it possibly deliver? Can it be
as good as it sounds? Yes it can – and it's even better. Devane,
Jones and Linda Haynes, as the roadhouse waitress and beauty

surprise comes when the films far surpass any ideas evoked by their oh-so-evocative names. When faced with the daunting task of putting together the cream of
this spectacularly bizarre crop, we turned to the expert, enlisting the aid of the
Alamo Drafthouse’s maestro of mayhem, Lars Nilsen. Lars has been programming the legendary Drafthouse’s ‘Weird Wednesday’ program for seven years
and we truly believe that he has left no stone unturned in discovering the
strangest, most provocative, and downright entertainingly sleazy films in cinematic history. This series flies between micro-genres from women-in-prison, to slasher horror, to Euro-sleaze, to the full range of ‘sploitations (blax-, teen-, hick-, nun-,

Harvard professors Moss and Gallison deliver this thoroughly engaging documentary about the history of government secrecy in the United States. Using a
combination of interviews, archival and artistic footage and interweaving multiple
storylines, SECRECY paints an at-times disturbing picture that still manages to
touch compellingly on all sides of the issue. Though an emphasis is put on the
damage done by and consequences of keeping secrets, there is considerable
attention given to the benefit of the various ‘Alphabet Agencies’ and the sensible
use of the Top Secret stamp. Touching on events from the military incidents that
helped to create many of the laws governing state secrets to Pearl Harbor to 9/11,
Guantanamo, Iraq and beyond, SECRECY’s strength lies in its ability to combine
facts and figures with dramatic stories and characters – notably military lawyer Lt.
Cmdr. Charles Swift who successfully defended Gitmo prisoner Salim Hamdan.

star Tamara Dobson as warring inmates. Kinky Stella Stevens
cracks the whip as the captain of the guards and scuzzy John
Vernon plays the warden (who has a hot tub in his office). Others
may disagree but I think this is a great first-date movie (but be
sure to bring enough for her cabfare home just in case). Either
she'll love it or she'll flee. What better way to separate the wheat
from the chaff? After all, who wants to get stuck with a good girl?

Already a cult favorite among the most discriminating hicksploitation connoisseurs. This is a cheap, sleazy slice of lone-star low-life.
The titular psycho, Wheeler, is one of the most memorable characters in (bad) filmdom. John King III should have at least gotten an
Oscar nomination for his portrayal of the sadistic, mommyobsessed kidnapper with the weird laugh. Wheeler's right hand
man, Slick, is great too. His trademark phrase is "Now I got yo
ASS!" Gotta love it. So if you crave great scummy dialogue, Kmart fashions, mean rednecks, continuity lapses, incongruous
BOING sound effects, long long chase scenes, backwoods country
cuties, a theme song that won't leave you alone and so much
more, then be sure to be here or we'll give Wheeler and Slick your

Total madness! It's a rural gothic snake-revenge movie that's oh
so much more. A demented old kook named Snakey operates a
reptile farm in the middle of nowhere. Through a bizarre chain of
events, he becomes unhinged and kills off half the town with his
trained snakes. We've seen all that a million times. But what
makes SNAKES extra special is all the perverse little sick touches.
For example, the prim local schoolmarm uses Snakey as a reptile
pimp for her sick sex thrills, the brother and sister grocers seem to
have an incestuous relationship, Snakey likes to strip his victims
down to their underwear and best of all, John Philip Sousa marches blare throughout the movie like some sort of demented leitmotif. It's incredible! Rated R; Not Available on DVD

asks if he would marry her again, David answers with a completely honest “no”. As luck would have it, later that day a town official
stops by to inform the couple that due to a boundary dispute they
are not officially married. Thanks to David’s thoughtless response
earlier, Ann leaves him for another man and David must attempt
to win her back with a variety of hapless antics. This film begs the
question, is honesty really the best policy? An uncharacteristically
romantic comedy from the master of suspense.

because of her imminent death, but because she has been told
that she’s going to live. Mistaking her tears, Wally brings her to
New York where she is heralded as an inspiration and even given
the ole ticker tape parade. New York loves her, that is, until the
mayor finds out the truth about her condition and decides to go to
extremes to cover up the mistake.

day. Tickets for each showtime go on sale about
