Holdenville TRIBUNE
VOLUME 13, NUMBER 19 HUGHES COUNTY, OKLAHOMA 1 SECTION 50¢ WEDNESDAY, APRIL 24, 2013
Yeager Reunion June 1st at Pallmer Inn
Doors Will Open at 10:00 a.m.
The annual Yeager school
reunion is always a great time
for taking a trip down memory
lane. Today, we want to journey
back to 1905 and see what was
printed in the Yeager Record.
June 16: “Roy Clawson has
launched The Yeager Record, a
five column quarto and is a neat
publication. Yeager is a patriotic little place and the patriotism
of its people demanded a home
organ to sing its praises and reflect its energies. The Record
fills the bill for its first issue appearing last week, set a fast gait.
It was handsome, breezy and
dignified. The Tribune (Holdenville Tribune) welcomes the
Record to the rank and counts
it one more soldier in the battle
of human rights and statehood
for this territory. La Viva, The
Record.
June 16: Brush arbor: “An
arbor near the school house was
completed Saturday in time for
the picnic Sunday. Dr. Grissom, John Peters and others put
in a great deal of time on this
work, but the results more than
paid them for their labor. It is a
good one and no mistakes.”
July 21: “Prof. Smallwood is
teaching a very successful writing school here at the school
house. He is considered a very
able instructor in penmanship.”
June 30: “Yeager witnessed
the sight of a tractor engine on
the streets Monday evening. We
predict that it won’t be many
years till this will be a common
occurrence. The farmers will
be raising lots of small grains
ere many years.”
“The Council met Tuesday for
the purpose of selecting an appropriate site to make arrangements for a cemetery for this
place. Five acres was deemed
a sufficient amount of land for
the purpose, and J.L. Brittain
and J.C. Grissom and W.R. Burton were selected a committee
to look the surrounding country
over and select a site. They selected a plot of ground just west
of the town about three quarters
of a mile, across the road from
where Mr. Cross lives. It is high
and a beautiful piece of land.
This is one thing Yeager has
needed for several years. Heretofore interment has been made
either at the graveyard at Holdenville or at the Fairview school
house. (Note: The expression
“at the Fairview school house”
Fairview cemetery). The plot
selected by the cemetery committee is the S ½ of the SE ¼ of
the SE ¼ of the SE ¼ of Section
16, T89, R9E. Arrangements
have been made to sell 20 lots at
once at $5.00 each to raise $100
the money to be used in defraying the cost of the ground and
having survey made, etc.”
The first party to be buried in
the Yeager Cemetery was Mrs.
Belle Bryant. This seems to be
so for the following sequence
of events as found in the paper,
dated January 12. 1906, which
was on a Friday: The Council met on Tuesday, January 9,
and the site was selected. On
Wednesday, one Mrs. Belle
Bryant died and was buried in
the Yeager Cemetery on Thursday, January 11, 1906. These
events were reported in the Yeager Record on Friday, January
12, 1906.

commodated in that way.”
It is not a Yeager reunion is the House “boys” are not there. Pictured are Francis, Charles, Ken, and Bennie.

My favorite story of the week . . .
A local 80-ear-old man recently went to the doctor. He was complaining
of not being able to get to sleep. His doctor put him through an entire
battery of tests, including lab work, and yet finds no reason why his patient
should not be able to sleep properly.
“Mr. Wilson, there is no medical reason for your insomnia,” the doctor
says. “My suggestion for a good night’s sleep is, you need to learn to stop
taking your trouble to bed with you.”
“Oh, that will never work,” answers the old man with a sigh.
“My wife refuses to sleep alone.”
—CC—
Speaking of doctors . . . Thanks to recent advances in medical technology,
as well as an effort to keep expenses down for the patient, more and more
surgical procedures are now being performed in doctors’ offices instead of
in a hospital.
Now, anything that will reduce the soaring cost of medical care is probably
a good thing, but caution is still recommended. I recently read an article
that said in some states, health boards are not required to regulate doctors’
offices as vigorously as they would a hospital setting. If this is true, should
something go wrong during the procedure, a patient’s well-being could be
jeopardized if the doctor’s staff are not adequately trained or prepared, or
if the office lacks the necessary equipment to handle the crisis.
While most doctors probably do their best to meet the government’s
standards, I’m sure there are some doctors’ offices where caution would
be highly suggested. Because of this, I thought it might be a good idea to
issue the following warning as a public service:
Do not allow your doctor to operate on you in his office if . . .
· Any of the surgical tools have the words “The Home Depot”
printed on them.
·
He has to clear off his copy machine to make an operating table.
·
His procedure room has a drive-thru.
·
His anesthesiologist is holding a hammer.
·
His oxygen mask says “Property of American Airlines.”
· Anywhere on his medical license you see the words “For
entertainment value only.”
·
Everyone in his waiting room is a malpractice attorney.
· His EKG machine has only two knobs and the words “Etch A
Sketch.”

We are so proud of our cousin
Russell Ingram, who recently ran
in the Boston Marathon. He placed
in the top 1% of around 24,000
runners. This is an incredible feat.
We are also very thankful that he
and his entire family, including his
wife, Tracey, daughter, Reagan, son,
Landon, parents, Jumper and David
Ingram, and his sisters, Krisi and
Kelsey, were all safe and sound after
the bombings took place. Russell
finished the race in 2:37:24, which
was a couple of hours before the
terrible event took place.
Our hearts go out to the victims
of this horrendous terrorist act and
we are praying for their healing,
both in body and in spirit.

Glenda Swift called me a
couple of weeks ago and she and her
husband found an old headstone in
their back yard on South Oak street.
The name engraved on the stone
is Laura B. Minnix, 1850-1929. If
anyone has any information about
this family, please let us know.
—DD—
Our good friend Randy Harrod
stopped by recently to visit. We are
so proud of his family. He has three
children attending Wes Watkins VoTech and they are all doing very well.
This is a wonderful testimony to their
upbringing and I know Randy is very
proud of them!
—DD—
I talked to my special friend
Samantha McNaughten today. She
informed me that she is going to be
26 on the 26th, which is this Friday.
I want to wish Sam a very Happy
Birthday! She is one of the sweetest
girls I know. The Lord uses her in
a very special way. I’ve never been
around her that she hasn’t lifted my
spirits and I know she does the same
for everyone she meets. I love you,
Sam!!
—DD—
We had some good news this
week. Our dear friend Reba Lovelace
has returned to her home after a
lengthy recovery from the injuries
she received in an automobile
accident in December 2012. We are
so happy she is back and praise God
that she is so much better. We love
you, Reba!
—DD—
I had a call from Evelyn Webb
recently. She was happy to see the
picture of the Aguirre family in
the paper. She went to school with
Frances and has many fond memories
of her. She said Frances was always
laughing and having fun. She said
that in the 6th grade, Francis would
go to sharpen her pencils and would
step into the trash can while she was
sharpening them. Invariably, when
stepping out of it she would fall
down and would laugh and laugh.
The teacher, Louis Gregory would
always say, “Not again, Frances!”
It was so good to visit with you
Evelyn! We hope to see you at the
upcoming school reunion.
—DD—
Speaking of the HHS Alumni
...Country Comments
Reunion, we learned that it will be
held on Friday, June 28 and Saturday
June 29. There will only be visitation
in the cafeteria on Friday afternoon
and Saturday morning. We would
love to hear from special classes
about what they have planned so we
can get the word out to our readers.

jobs for people in the community.
She loved her family more than anything
in this world. She took great pride in being
a part of their lives and could be found
at nearly every activity that her children

Even though she was very strict, most of
the students loved her and appreciated the
goodies she would always bring.

Game Night News
We started out with 8 people and then it just grew to 14 players. We were glad to have Jean Phillips back with us. And we had two new members: Shirley Carpenter and Anita Lorney. Welcome,
Ladies!
Lynn, Norma and Arjean were playing three-handed moon when Lynn shot the moon and made
it! Yea! Glenda came in and she became Arjean’s partner. Then, Shirley came in with some no-bake
chocolate cookies and she called Anita to be her partner. And so it went.
Playing as partners were Jean and Joyce Yates; Rusty Jones and Naomi Tomlinson; Arjean Williams and Glenda Swift; Sharon Dilday and Loita Sharp; Lynn Marquis and Norma Summy; Sue
Wood and Geraldine Ingram; Anita and Shirley.
Jean and Joyce won 3 games. Rusty shot the moon! Yea, Rusty! Rusty and Naomi won 5 games. Arjean and Glenda won 2 games. Sharon and Loita won 5 games including Sharon shooting the moon
and making it! Way to go, Sharon! Lynn and Norma won 5 games including Lynn shooting the moon
again and making it again! Yea!! Sue and Geraldine won 2 games and Anita and Shirley won 1 games
including Shirley shooting the moon and making it! Ladies, if this isn’t right, it isn’t for the lack of
trying to figure all of this out!
Naomi was afraid that we didn’t eat enough chocolate, so she went around with bite size candy
bars! Yum! Thank you Shirley! Thanks you Naomi! When we lose our mo-jo, chocolate is just what
we need.
Come and join us and you will see what all the fun is about!
See ya next week!

Sharon Stafford Carpenter was
by the office this past week and we
had a good visit. Sharon was my
high school English teacher and
was excellent. She told us that her
sister Jane has retired and was really
enjoying retirement.
Many of us remember when
their parents owned the DeSoto and
Plymouth Agency in Holdenville.
They had customers from all over the
state and everyone hated to see them
retire.
Bill’s uncle Elbert Langdon
worked for them for many years and
said they were really good to work
for.
The Stafford family was and
continues to be a blessing to our

We recently visited with our good

Also, Max Williams of the 1963
class called asking the same thing.
We have not heard anything
about their class, but hope they will

I have an apology to make to

know what I was thinking, but I know
I meant it in a good way! Ha Ha!
Sorry, Max!

Speaking of Jerome, he told a
great story about himself and his
friend and classmate David Peercy.
Near the end of their senior year, they
decided to skip school and go fishing.
Mr. Daugherty called their folks to
check on them and see if they were
sick. Obviously their parents did not
know about their “skipping”.
The next day, Jerome and David
returned to school. Mr. Daugherty
called them into the office and asked
where they were yesterday. Jerome
and David being the honest young
men they were, told him, “we went
fishing.”
Mr. Daugherty asked “were they
biting?” “yes” was the reply, “we
caught a big mess of them, cleaned
them and fried them last night.”
Mr. Daugherty gave them an
excused admit and sent them back to
class!
There was no one like John
Daugherty. He helped so many
people in so many ways. He has been
gone for many years, but will never
be forgotten.

Our good friend Jan Harris called
this week. She has had some major
health problems in recent months. We
miss her coming by the office to visit
and hope in the near future she is able
to be out and about again.

Here is our monthly Old Geezer’s
report straight from our pedaling
reporter Mike Agan.
Hi ya Robinson’s! Nice pics of
Eddie Troup in the Trib! Here’s the
latest from Ada........It was a good
gathering of the Old Geezer’s group
at the Rib Crib in Ada on Monday,
April 8th, with a dozen “Wolverine’s”
in attendance! Those making the trip
and enjoying the BBQ were: George
Kernek, Guy Pryor, Vic Pryor, Jim
Brewer, Roger Sweeney, Johnnie
Treat, John Bill Martin, Vernon
Robinson, Charles Stanford, Maxey
Carter, B. R. Gordon and your
pedaling reporter, Mike Agan. There
were a few good stories floating
around the table, but George’s tale
of being paddled by Mr. Slavin (who
had no remorse or held any “grudges”
afterwards), but did say he avoided
one by Mr. Daughtery and was a
happy boy!

I saw this post on Kay
Ellingsworth Wilbourn’s Facebook
page and wanted to share it with our
readers. It is a conversation between
two of her children.
Conversation at my house
(Kay’s)
Katelin, age 13: “Tyler, you’re
never gonna get a girlfriend”.
Tyler, age 15: “Yes, I will, I
could get one right now if I wanted.
There are a lot of desperate girls out
there”…
I’ve learned since this posting
that Tyler does indeed have a
girlfriend. I’ve also learned that he
is a very talented guitarist and likes
to make up songs about anything and
everything. He even made up a song
about a utility company customer
service representative that wasn’t too
nice to his mother when she called
about an outage of service. Sounds
like this family has a great sense of
humor, and have lots and lots of fun
together.

The Moss archery team will be
in the First United bank parking lot
on Friday selling ribeye sandwiches
starting at 10:30. You won’t want
to miss this fundraiser, it sounds
scrumptious!!

We had a nice note from our
good friend Alex Lesueur in regards
to Andy Robinson. He writes:
Dear Bill & Dayna,
I was sorry to read about Andy
Robinson’s passing. One thing
that the obituary didn’t mention
was that his father was the Rev.
Harry Robinson and that he was
the Rector of St Paul’s Episcopal
Church there in Holdenville.
Their family was very attentive
to my mother when she was in her
later years as Secretary of the Red
Cross office. Whenever there was
a tornado or threat of one, Harry
Robinson was there to stay with
her. He knew that she was on 24
hour call. After Andy came back
there he painted her living room for
her. They were very important to
our family and to our church.
Best wishes,
Alex Lesueur

LEGAL NOTICE
IN THE DISTRICT COURT
OF HUGHES COUNTY
STATE OF OKLAHOMA
Case No. PB-2013-20
In the Matter of the Estate of: ROGERS W. CABOT, SR., Deceased.
COMBINED NOTICE TO CREDITORS AND NOTICE OF HEARING
TO: All persons interested in the Estate Rogers W. Cabot, Sr., deceased:
You are hereby notified that on the 18th day of April, 2013, the Petitioner, Kelly
Evans, 3657 N. 369 Road, Holdenville, Oklahoma 74848, filed in the District Court of
Hughes County a Petition For Summary Administration. The Petitioner has alleged that
Rogers W. Cabot, Sr., died on May 1, 2008, aged 80 years, domiciled in and resident of
Barnstable County, Massachusetts, and the total value of decedent Rogers W. Cabot,
Sr.’s Oklahoma property is less than $175,000.00.
In an Order for Summary Administration, the Court found that it should dispense with
the regular estate proceedings prescribed by law and order notice to creditors and issue
an order for hearing upon the Petition For Summary Administration, Final Accounting and
Petition for Determination of Heirs and Distribution.
Pursuant to the Order for Combined Notice, all creditors having claims against Lloyd
Douglas Porter, deceased are required to present same, with a description of all security
interest and other collateral, if any, held by each creditor with respect to such claim, to
the Petitioner, Kelly Evans, 3657 N. 369 Rd, Holdenville, Oklahoma 74848, on or before
the 20th day of May, 2013, or the same will be forever barred.
Notice is hereby given that a hearing will be held on the 11th day of June, 2013, at 1:30
p.m., at the Hughes County Courthouse, 200 N. Broadway, Holdenville OK, before Judge
Allen. At the hearing the Court will decide whether to approve the Petition for Summary
Administration and the Final Account and Petition for Determination of Heirs and
Distribution. The Final Account and Petition for Determination of Heirs and Distribution
will be filed herein on or before the 21st day of May, 2013.
You are hereby advised that you must file objections to the Petition for Summary
Administration and the Final Account and Petition for Determination of Heirs and
Distribution at least then (10) days before the hearing and send a copy to the Petitioner’s
attorney, Linda G. Evans, or you will be deemed to have waived any objections. If you
have no objection, you need not appear at the hearing or make any filings with the
Court.
If an objection is filed at least ten (10) days before the hearing, the Court will determine
at the hearing whether summary proceedings are appropriate and, if so, whether the
estate will be distributed and to whom the estate will be distributed.
