SISTER PARISH UPDATE
Since the September 20th date for the
dedication was postponed, there is one
question asked by everyone: “What is the
new date?” After our meeting with Fr.
Philippe, PROCHE (the oversight agency),
and the construction engineer it was
proposed that the church be completely
done before setting the date. All agreed. If there are
no additional delays, the dedication could be in
January 2016. You will be kept updated. See the
photos on our church bulletin board.
There is now an adult literacy program called ALFA in
the village. Between 25 and 30 people are in this class
that began in July.
Stay tuned, more updates will be shared. God bless
you!

Dear Parishioners and Friends at
St. Patrick-St. Anthony and St. Genevieve,
May the Lord give you peace.
I thank you for your participation in our celebrations of
the feast of St. Francis. The Transitus on Saturday evening was
lovely and the Masses were lively celebrations of God’s loving
presence. I was amazed at the stuffed animals and at the faces
of children and adults who brought them for blessings! We
also had a new piece of music composed by Benjamin Rauch
from our choir. We heard it at the Transitus and again at the 10
AM Mass. I thank Benjamin for this lovely and rousing hymn
of praise. I also thank our choir and director, Gabriel.
I ask your continued prayer for the victims of violence,
especially those affected by the shooting on the campus in
Oregon, those affected by the bombing of the Doctors without
Borders Hospital, and the military helicopter crash.
Monday was a busy day. In the morning we hosted a
press conference with Senator Blumenthal, representatives
from IRIS, the Muslim community, and the Land of Peace. A
woman who has recently been to the Syrian border and has
been to the refugee camps shared her experience. Senator
Blumenthal outlined a proposal to expedite the processing of
those who flee their homeland due to extreme poverty,
violence, or oppression. We will continue the conversation at
the Berlin mosque on Sunday. I ask your prayers for all who
suffer the loss of home and roots due to the chaos in our world.
I am especially aware of children who are unable to go to
school as they spend their days seeking safety, shelter, or food.
There are children, now orphaned, who struggle day to day for
the basic necessities of life. I also thank Senator Blumenthal
and his staff for taking the lead on a process of compassionate
assistance to our sisters and brothers around the world.
Monday evening, Sr. Caryn Crook led us through a
presentation of the papal encyclical Laudate Si´. It was
enlightening and challenging. We will begin to use portions of
encyclical during our Vesper services on Tuesdays. We will
also begin a conversation group to discuss the work. Pope
Francis spoke clearly of the responsibility we all have to
demonstrate our love for God through our love for God’s
created world.
Our contract for heating in the church is still a couple of
weeks from starting. I do apologize for the low temperatures
as we shift into the fall season. As Sr. Caryn invited those who
came to her talk, I encourage you to bring a sweater if you are
sensitive to the cooler temperatures.
Fr. Andrew is away this week visiting his sister in Geneva,
NY. This is a good break for him and an opportunity to spend
time with his family. I thank you for your love and support for
Fr. Andrew.
Once again, my thanks for all that you are and do to create
a home at St. Patrick-St. Anthony for so many who desire to
live the Gospel with a community of compassion.
Many thanks to everyone who
helped make our Transitus and
Feast Day celebrations last
weekend a success!
STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
In today’s Gospel, Jesus asks the rich young man to
give away all that he has in order to have treasure in
heaven. But he is unable to free himself from his
possessions, and so he goes sadly away. Does what I
own keep me from following Jesus?
LIVING STEWARDSHIP
We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish
who keep attachments, of any sort, from distracting
them from their spiritual work.

beautiful, multi-year time-lapse videos of vanishing glaciers across the Arctic, while delivering
fragile hope to our carbon-powered planet. Film is 75 minutes in length.
