Potentate’s Message
Nobles,
We had great circuses - elephants, tigers, grizzly bears, the
Chicago Boys, usual circus performers, motorcycle jumpers and, of
course, our clowns. We usually worry about bad weather - this year we
were affected by good weather especially in Bemidji - 75 degrees.
Bemidji attendance was down significantly. Duluth’s attendance, thanks
to a cold, rainy Sunday, was just slightly ahead of last year. Thanks
to all the Nobles and to the many other volunteers who are necessary to
make the circus go.
We will have a detail report on both the Bemidji Circus and the
Duluth Circus at the May 12th Stated Meeting.
Some unknown person once said, ‘the only thing certain is change’
- and whomever he or she was is correct. Some, probably most, people
are resistant to change - a fear of the unknown. In some cases there
are changes over which we have no control. Such was the case at the
end of 2014 when our long-standing Office Secretary of 17+ years
resigned. Also, for the last five months of 2014 we had an interim
Building/Office Manager.
Prior to year end the Divan developed job descriptions for both
positions. After advertising for the position of Building/Office
Manager, three qualified Nobles applied and the Divan, after
interviews, hired Scott Abrahamson. He retired from the University of
Wisconsin Superior where he held a supervisory position. He was hired
for 30 hours per week.
The Divan decided to hire a secretary through Temps as we had
little time to interview a replacement. The Temps referred Yolanda
Eliason to us. She was an excellent fit for our organization and as of
April 20th we hired her as our permanent employee. She was hired for
32 hours per week.
Scott and Landa are, of course, our only two employees. Even
though they received some assistance from our prior secretary, our
recorder, and other Nobles with local knowledge, it is not the same as
on-site, face to face, learning. Fortunately both Scott and Landa have
the attribute of working well together and both have been working hard
to learn the nuances of managing the building, the office, the books
and other things unique to a Shrine Center.
Scott and Landa, thanks for your willingness and eagerness to
learn and your positive “can do” attitude.
Nobles - Have fun - Help kids - Have fun helping kids.

an assisted care facility. Brotherhood is what binds
us together, so help us stay informed.
A NOTE FROM THE SHRINE
OFFICE…
Thank you everyone for your courtesy and patience
during these first few months of the year. I am tackling
something new nearly every day and am working
hard on keeping the day to day tasks running
smoothly. Please don’t hesitate to call the office with
any questions or concerns. Just a reminder to all Units and Clubs, as summer
comes and everyone gets busy, please be sure you have
filled out the Aad Shrine Unit and Club Activities Form
for all activities. The form is here in the office and I
hope to make it available on the Website. For Fraternal
or Charitable fund raisers, please use the Fund Raising
Activity Approval Form.
When you come in, check out our selection of Shrine
shirts, caps, and jewelry. I look forward to meeting
you!
