WFI SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS ANNOUNCED ...
Congratulations to Jill Baugher and Laura Sloan, the
1982 recipients of the two university scholarships an­
nually awarded by our division.
Laura, recipient of the Verne E. Minich "Founders Schol­
arship" - named after Wheelabrator's founder and first
president - plans to concentrate on a pre-law program
with an emphasis on language. Ranking 16 in a class of
468 at Penn High School, Laura served as treasurer of the
National Honor Society; was a member of the French
Club; concert choir; Powder Puff team; and cheerleading
squad.
Ranked sixth in a class of
373 at Mishawaka High School,
Jill will enter the College of Science at the University of
Notre Dame as the recipient of the Otto A. Pfaff Scholar­
ship, named after our company's second president, where
she plans a double major in math and computer science.
She served as president of the National Honor Society;
vice president of the Spanish-Latin Club; and treasurer of
Scholarship Committee Chairman Tom Burmeister (r)
makes the presentation awards to Jill and Laura with
committee members Jack Trant

District Manager Frank Filkins (r), himself a recipient of
the award, told us about the excellent presentation Jeff
made at the Grand Rapids Industrial Productivity Con­
ference sponsored by the Society of Manufacturing En­
gineers. Jeff's paper was entitled "High Energy for De­
burring and Finishing."
Joe Ponteri (I), Sales
& Marketing V. P., is often pictured
making presentations to members of his team. Recently,
the tables were turned when Marketing Manager Brown
Sanders (r) recognized Joe for his presentation, "Surface
Preparation: Systems and Technology," given at the
American Institute of Steel Construction Conference
held in St. Louis in mid-May.

YOU BILINGUAL? Saint Mary's College is
preparing to compile a linguistic-ethnic directory
which will list, according to the languages involved,
those residents who can use in some way or other­
and to any degree - those languages. The directory
should provide a valuable service to any private or
public institution or citizen in need of an interpreter,
translator, or an ethnic-cultural informant.
Within the next week or two, our International Ad­
ministrator John Stewart will contact each depart­
ment for the info needed to have our employees (who
would like to be listed) participate in this project.
