JULY 2015 - Club Travel
JULY 2015
We not only comply with, but fully support all Laws and/or Acts which have been promulgated with a view to promoting
ethical and transparent business practices in the best interests of clients, employees, suppliers and shareholders, as well
as the community at large.
To this end, we remain committed to our Skills Development Programmes, Social Investment Initiatives, Environmental
Responsibilities and our passion to develop our people to their fullest potential.
SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
THE PDI EQUITY STUDENT PROGRAMME
This programme allows for Travel and Tourism College graduates, or graduates with any other relevant qualification, to
be trained in-house over a 3 month period. This training and exposure to the actual workplace is of significant benefit to
the student.
During this time the student is exposed to all aspects of working in a travel/tourism environment and is expected to attend
relevant training courses in order to reach a level of proficiency which would ensure that they are job ready on completion
of this training programme.
As at April 2011, 54% of the students who successfully completed this programme have been permanently employed by
us with a significant percentage of the balance being employed in the greater travel and tourism industry.
THE LEARNING CYCLE
We strive to provide an environment for our employees to develop and grow through our training and career
development programmes.
The Learning Cycle supports our employees to maximise their skills and potential from the day they join our company.
JULY 2015
PERFORMANCE APPRAISALS
Performance Appraisals are conducted on a regular basis, each one with a development plan that includes training
requirement/s for current role and career development.
The Key Performance Indicators are linked to our DNA, broken down into measurable specifics dependant on role.
The development plans form part of our Workplace Skills Plan.
TRAINING
Our in-house training division consists of a specialised training team and is equipped with state of the art technology,
equipment and facilities. Our investment and commitment in this endeavour has been realised through our career
development and promotions of our PDI employees.
As at April 2011, 29 of our previously disadvantaged employees have been developed and promoted from entry level
employment to specialised key and managerial positions. 644 Employees have participated in our training programmes
which consist of, but are not limited to:

JULY 2015
EMPLOYMENT EQUITY
In order to eliminate the unfair discrimination in employment and promote economy development and efficiency in the
workplace, we are committed to Employment Equity in terms of race, gender and disability, thereby striving to promote
the constitutional right of equality and true democracy.
To ensure that we achieve a diverse workforce broadly representative of the South African people we have implemented
industry leading processes in terms of recruitment, training and employee advancement within the company. These
efforts have not only proven to increase long service but have also realised our belief that Employment Equity is key for
true transformation.
EDUCATIONALS
We recognise and understand that our team members from a previously disadvantaged background may not have had
the opportunity to travel by air, stay in a hotel or experience the cultures of different countries, therefore we have
formalised an Educational Policy and together with the support of our suppliers afford the individual the experience of
travelling first hand. The company provides more than R500 000 annually for this purpose.
EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE
We believe in encouraging each employee to reach their full potential and in-line with our career development
programme we offer financial educational assistance for those who wish to further their career and qualifications.
EDUCATION TRUST
We are in the process of establishing an Education Trust for the sole purpose of providing financial assistance to previously
disadvantaged employees’ children to enable them to follow their chosen career. The criteria for selection is not
dependant on furthering a career in the Travel & Tourism realm as we feel strongly that education is a basic right and
should be available to all. Therefore the Education Trust will not limit its selected based on entry into the Travel and
Tourism industry, but will support education in other fields.
CORPORATE SOCIAL INVESTMENT
It is our belief that education speaks to the mind and social upliftment yields the heart.
We are passionate about caring for our community and we show this by each member of our staff not only making a
financial contribution out of their own pockets but also giving of their time to be actively involved in making our initiatives
a reality.
The Company matches the employees’ contribution Rand for Rand and together we enrich the lives of those in need.
JULY 2015
Nicolas Mtaki - June 2015
It was a dream come true for Nicolas Mtaki, when Club Travel
recently donated four used computers in aid of setting up a
community computer centre. Mtaki, an ADT security officer, has
taken on the task of establishing a small IT centre in Kayalitsha. His
vision has always been to create a safe place for children to come and
learn some essential computing skills, whilst keeping them off the
streets. “If young people have something to do, a place to go and
learn computer skills and be entertained they are less likely to do no
good, “said Nicolas.
The next step for Nicolas is to get the centre online. Should you wish to assist, please visit www.flyingkites.co.za. Click
here for more information/feedback.
702 Sun International CEO SleepOut Challenge – June 2015
This event sees CEO’s spend a night on the street, joining the global movement of
looking beyond profits to purpose. The movement has raised millions worldwide and
continues to grow through the launch of the event in South Africa.
Club Travel sponsored Clifford Ross from City Lodge. Thanks to CEO’s like Clifford, the
inaugural event will raise some much needed funds for The Girls & Boys Town
Foundation of South Africa.
Monwabisi Ngeyakhe – Waves For Change - May 2015
Through our ongoing partnership and support of the Waves for Change Foundation, Club
Travel recently sponsored Monwabisi Ngeyakhe to attend a course on Social Work.
Monwabisi is now a registered Child & Youth Care Worker with the South African Council
for Social Service Professionals. This qualification empowers him to actively give back to his
community, whilst assisting in his personal development.

The CHOC foundation - May 2015
In an effort to raise awareness of cancer, Club Travel recently purchased 300 CHOC wristbands, which we handed out to
all delegates at our national conference.
The wristbands are sold by CHOC, The Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa, to raise funds for their ongoing
support of children and families affected by this dread disease.

Dance Trax Irish dancing troup - March 2015
The Irish South African Association hosted a St. Patrick’s Day event at The Ballroom - Kelvin Grove in
Newlands. Performing on the night was a spectacular Irish dancing group, consisting of 12 boys & girls, from Du Noon.
The troupe attends Irish Dancing classes at the Dance Trax school in Parklands. The dance school is dependent on
fundraising for transportation, costumes, competition entrance fees etc.
In celebration of our MD’s Irish heritage, Club Travel did not hesitate to get on board by sponsoring flights to Dublin for
a raffle towards Dance Trax’s fundraising efforts.
Baby Nicela Fund - March 2015
Club Travel has a long running relationship with Nicela and the Naude family. Nicela
suffers from a rare condition which causes abnormal growths on her arm and torso.
Her family has been fundraising to help pay for the much needed surgery to remove
the life-threatening growths.
Nicela, with her warm disposition and sunny smile, has crawled into all our hearts
and it was with great pleasure that Club Travel contributed not only funds, but also
towels and water bottles to a fund raising event held at Tygervalley Shopping
Centre.
For more information on the Baby Nicela Fund and her progress, follow her on
Facebook or on her website, here.

CANSA Shavathon - March 2015
Club Travel employees showed their support to either shave or
spray their heads for cancer, in the CANSA Shavathon. As one of
the most popular fundraising events on the South African calendar,
Club Travel partnered with Holiday Inn Express yet again and
hosted the event at our Head Office in Cape Town. Holiday Inn
Express provided the equipment and staff to do the spraying and
shaving and Club Travel donated R50 to CANSA for each staff
member who had their hair shaved or sprayed.Thank you to all
who supported, R3 200 was raised!
Reach For A Dream – Daniel Holgate - March 2015
Club Travel, through the Reach for a Dream Foundation, made young
Daniel Holgate’s dream of attending the Cricket World Cup a reality.
Daniel, who has muscular dystrophy, is BESOTTED with cricket to the
point that, despite being unable to play himself, he is the scorer for his
school's team.
Daniel and his family were thrilled to have the opportunity to travel to
Melbourne, Australia to attend the ICC World Cup in March 2015, and
he even had the opportunity to meet some of his cricket heroes.
Shop For A Stranger - February 2015
Shop For A Stranger is about just that - shopping for
someone you don't know, but you know needs it. By
adding one item to your trolley when you go
shopping, you can make a huge difference. A small
gesture will feed kids and animals who are
desperately hungry.
Shop For A Stranger currently supports a settlement
in Grabouw where an incredible woman call Aunty
Poppie feeds 200 children as many times a week as
she can.
Club Travel donated breakfast oats, jam & peanut
butter, canned food and treats.
JULY 2015
Beading for Empowerment And Development (BEAD) - December 2014
Every year Club Travel hosts its valued suppliers at Kenilworth
Race Course, for what has now become a highlight on the
travel calender - Club Travel's 'Day at the Races". This year's
event saw all table bets & winnings on the day being donated
to our chosen beneficiery, BEAD.
BEAD (Beading for Empowerment And Development) is an
organisation that empowers women with limited means to
support their families through the creation of beautifully
beaded gifts and jewellery. The program is run by NPO “Little
Lambs” in townships throughout the Western Cape. A total of
R9 064 was raised this year, which Club Travel handed over to
the organisation.
For more information on BEAD and Little Lambs click here.
Waves for Change Organisation - November 2014
Club Travel’s Financial Director, Gary Mulder, along with 128 other ardent golfers turned out to support the 10th annual
Club Travel JDI Golf Day held at Westlake Golf Course, on Friday 21st Nov 2014.
The JDI Foundation consists of various groups worldwide which encompasses a diverse group of individuals whose ethos
shies away from making nameless donations, opting rather to foster a culture of change in individuals and organisation
which benefit from their contributions. In close partnership with Club Travel, this year’s beneficiary was the
Masiphumelele - based organisation ‘Waves For Change’. Their aim is to turn previously disused township beaches into
hubs for skills training and social justice. The organisation trains local community members and equip them with surfing
skills as well as provide programmes where vulnerable youth receive social, health and educational support.
The day was a huge success, seeing us raise our highest amount to date, a staggering R108 975 through the tremendous
support from our players and friends at Turkish Airlines.
‘Waves For Change’ used the funds raised towards opening a container “office” in Muizenberg. Club Travel, through our
Club Cares initiative, have several on-going initiatives helping ‘Waves for Change’ which include upskilling the coaches
with sales and interviewing training.
JULY 2015
94.5 KFM wish – Nikolas - November 2014
We were contacted by KFM to once again partner with them in
their annual 'Xmas Wish' initiative.
Nikolas was born a healthy and happy little boy, when two
months later tragedy struck. A terrible fall resulted in brain
damage. Nikolas was left blind, paralyzed, and unable to
communicate with anyone.
His devoted mother Nicoleen looks after him. She has to carry him up two flights of stairs to get to their flat.
One of the hardest physical challenges is bath time. Nicoleen has been trying to save up money for a special bath lift to
help Nikolas. Club Travel volunteered to assist by giving Nicoleen the bath lift, valued at R21 000. We also assisted with
a R5 000 Canal Walk gift voucher, so that Nicoleen can buy something for Nikolas and hopefully something special for
herself. Have a listen to this special moment here.
Baby Nicela Fund - November 2014
Baby Nicela was adopted by a wonderful couple who met her when she was three
weeks old, after being discharged from hospital into the care of an emergency mother.
She was new-born and fragile without a mothers touch or love for the first weeks of her
life in this strange new world. Nicela’s life expectancy was around 1 month, and she is
still going strong. After meeting her the first day, her mother knew that she was meant
to be part of her family and they could not imagine life without her.
Nicela has a growth on her left upper body which extends around her back to her spine,
about the size of a dinner plate. Her left arm is also affected, twisted, enlarged and
almost not functional at all. Nicela will need surgery to have the growth removed as
well as plastic surgery for her arm.
Club Travel was honoured to have been able to contribute promotional items for their goodie bags for Baby Nicela’s
“Carols by neon light fundraiser” on the 30 Nov 2014.
Flying Kites - November 2014
Having partnered with Flying Kites in the past, director Nic Dupper approached Club
Travel for sponsorship of goodies for Garth. Garth runs a boot camp and fitness
training program in Worcester, where he keeps young people active and healthy and
off the streets through his outreach program. As gangsterism is a major problem in
some of these communities, Club Travel felt privileged to contribute towards Garth's
efforts, under the support of Flying Kites. For more information Flying Kites, click

JULY 2015
Youth Group from Oudtshoorn - November 2014
This dynamic youth group attended a Youth Conference titled "Who I am?" One of the topics discussed was 'Empower,
Enlarge, Motivate, Change & Encourage,' and the Club Travel Team were given the opportunity to assist them with their
need for accommodation at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel. These kids all come from nothing and encounter
challenges daily. They were amazed and so grateful for the opportunity to stay in the hotel, and could not be more
grateful for the opportunity to spend a night at this luxurious property. The youth decribed their stay as “a day in
heaven.” You can read for yourself what they had to say about this experience, by reading their "thank you" letter.
Reach For A
Dreams’ Gala Dinner - October 2014
Reach For A Dream enriches children's lives by making
dreams come true and as a result, distracting them from the
needles, medication and hospital environment. These young
children are under extreme pressure to deal with these
medical issues and are in desperate need of our
encouragement. In addition to all the work Reach For A
Dream does, the foundation's main purpose is offering the child a magical moment to regain their childhood that is
being lost to an illness. They celebrated their 12th Annual Gala Dinner on 25th October 2014 at the Cape Sun in Cape
Town.
Club Travel contributed to the event by donating a travel voucher as a fundraising prize.

Madiba Day at Sisters Incorporated - July 2014
Club Travel staff rallied behind Mandela Day and the “67 Blankets for Madiba” campaign by using nearly 50km of wool
to craft blankets, which were auctioned. The money
raised was used to buy 67 winter warming blankets for
abused women and their children at the Sisters
Incorporated shelter in Kenilworth. Sisters Incorporated
provides full board and lodging, three meals a day,
clothing, toiletries and bedding. They empower the
women in their care through skills training and support
by operating a full-time crèche for their children. They
also help the women to find employment and access
legal assistance as well as medical care.
“A heartfelt thank you to Club Travel for blessing us on
this Mandela Day. You have helped us to assist the many
woman and children and victims of domestic violence, who live at our shelter. From our staff, thank you for
holding our arms up!” said Linda Fugard, Manager at Sisters Incorporated.

rewards the amazing efforts of our young reporters who
broadcast youth-produced content weekly. Their voices
