SPL FINANCIAL’S QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER
SPRING 2015
A MESSAGE FROM SEAN P. LEE, MSFS
“CRACK!” What was that? The sound of a fresh new baseball hitting the bat? A shiny
Nike golf club crushing a drive down the green? No, no. It’s the sound of a wild little boy
quickly approaching the age of three after being cooped up in the house during (a short!
mild!) winter. It’s the sound that gives my wife and I anxiety and spurs curiosity as to
which fragile thing in our home will be hit (and shattered) next. We just hope the mess is
minimal and that it doesn’t involve one of our dogs…or our daughter’s head.
Our son, Michael, is, well, very much MINE. He loves all things
sports. He spends hours every day throwing a baseball, kicking
a soccer ball or launching golf balls throughout the house, garage
and yard. One of his favorite things to do with me on the weekends is to go to Scheel’s or Uinta Golf to hit golf balls on their
in-store putting greens. He’ll be three in July. It’s only going to get
better (or worse, if you ask my wife).
With summer just around the corner we have realized our little
kindergartner, Coraline, will soon be a first grader! How did that
happen?!? And sometime during the past few months she grew
three inches, learned how to read and do basic math, and shed all resemblance of that little
baby we swear was just here a few minutes ago. Her passion is art. But she is enjoying playing soccer with her friends and preparing for the big end-of-year ballet recital. We can’t
wait!
If you live in the Salt Lake area, you’ve probably noticed a little extra energy in the air. The
MLS soccer season began in March. This is our third season as season-ticket-holders,
which translates to a guaranteed date night for Erika and I every couple of weeks. And we
always have a great time cheering on REAL Salt Lake!
To all of you, I wish a fun Spring and relaxing summer without little tiny sports enthusiasts running through your house
breaking things.
CLIENT CORNER - KEVIN & LISA
Originally from Salt Lake City, Lisa worked many years as an office manager but recently retired and is busy spending her days biking, hiking, and cleaning out 30 years
worth of treasures in her home. “Maybe we’ll finally get those baby books done now
that the kids are in their 30s!” She also enjoys spending time with her husband, Kevin
traveling, walking their dogs and their Friday “date nights” at the gym followed by a
take out and a movie rental. Kevin, originally from St. Louis, is currently employed as
corporate trainer and adjunct math teacher at Salt Lake Community College.
Kevin and Lisa recently spent two weeks in Ireland taking in the history, beautiful
scenery, amazing/friendly/fun-loving people, music, food and, of course, some Irish
whiskey. They traveled the country by bus and train, staying in B&Bs and brought
with them only a carry-on bag and backpack. “If you can’t carry it up two flights of
stairs, you need to lighten the load!” Best
advice ever !
Kevin and Lisa stay healthy and active by visiting their two sons: one
is currently flying helo’s for the Navy and the other is in the Merchant
Marine traveling to the Antarctic. They intend to take an epic adventure
every year, including visiting National Parks. This year they are checking Acadia National Park in Maine off their list. And the big trip is going to be a 10-day river cruise.
