Major General Frederick M. Padilla, USMC
President
Major General Padilla was born in April 1959 in
Torrejon, Spain, to a career Air Force officer. He
is a 1982 graduate of East Carolina University
and was commissioned in 1983.
Major General Padilla’s assignments in the
operating forces include Platoon Commander,
Company Commander and Battalion Adjutant, 3d

General Padilla’s first General Officer assignment was as the Commanding General Marine Corps
Recruit Depot, Eastern Recruiting Region, Parris Island, South Carolina.
Major General Padilla was promoted to his present rank in July 2013 and before coming to NDU as 15th
President was the Director of Operations with Plans, Policies and Operations, Headquarters Marine
Corps.
Major General Padilla is a graduate of the Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School, Air Command and
Staff College, Armed Forces Staff College and Naval War College. He has a B.A. in Geography and an
M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies.
His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (with Combat V and two gold stars), Defense
Meritorious Service Medal (with oak leaf), the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service
Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with gold star), the Navy and
Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with gold star), and the Combat Action Ribbon (with gold star).
Ambassador Wanda L. Nesbitt
Senior Vice President
Ambassador Nesbitt joined the National Defense
University as its Senior Vice President in
November 2013, and served as its Interim
President from JulyNovember 2014. She is a
career member of the U.S. Foreign Service and
holds the rank of Career Minister. Prior to NDU, Ms. Nesbitt served as U.S
Ambassador to the Republic of Namibia from
November 2010 to October 2013, where she was
well known for her commitment to environmental
and wildlife conservation.

From October 2007 to August 2010, she was the
U.S. Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, and was
deeply involved in efforts to promote democratic governance.
In Washington, Ms. Nesbitt served most recently (2005–2007) as the Principal Deputy Assistant
Secretary for the Bureau of Consular Affairs. She is a consular cone officer with a vast array of
experience with policy and management issues. She was also Director of the Senior Level Division in the
Bureau of Human Resources’ Career Development and Assignments Division (20042005), where she
handled assignment issues for the Department’s most senior career officers; her division was the
Executive Secretariat for the Chief of Mission and Deputy Chief of Mission/Principal officer selection
committees.
As U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Madagascar (2002–2004), Ms. Nesbitt devoted particular
attention to resolving a political crisis while also promoting environmental preservation and protection,
and increased private sector involvement to address poverty reduction.
Ms. Nesbitt has twice served as a Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassies in Rwanda (1997–
1999) and Tanzania. She was Chargé d’Affaires in Tanzania from January to November 2001.
Ms. Nesbitt joined the Foreign Service in 1981 and is the recipient of numerous awards, including two
Presidential awards for outstanding performance. She is 1997 graduate of the National War College and
holds bachelor’s degrees from the University of Pennsylvania in International Relations and French.
She is married to Mr. James Stejskal, a decorated Special Forces veteran and military historian.

Former Commander
United States Southern Command
General Kelly served as the Commander, United States Southern Command, Miami, FL, from November
2012 until January 2016. He retired from active duty after 45+ years of service to the nation as a United
States Marine—both as an enlisted infantryman and infantry officer—on 1 February 2016.
Born and raised in Boston, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1970. He was released from active duty as a
sergeant of infantry in 1972. Following graduation from the University of Massachusetts (Boston) in 1975,
he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps and assigned an infantry occupational
specialty. In addition to attaining an MA degree from Georgetown University in National Security Affairs
(1984), and an MS from the National Defense University in National Security (1995), his formal military
education includes The Basic School (1976), the U.S. Army’s Advanced Infantry Officer’s Course (1981),
the Marine Corp’s Command & Staff College (1991) and School for Advance Warfighting (1992), the
National War College (1995), Capstone (2004), Joint Force Land Component Commander Course (2006),
and Joint Flag Officer Warfighting Course (2007).
In his many assignments to the Fleet Marine Force as a company and field grade officer, General Kelly
qualified in various infantry battalion staff assignments as well as commanding a number of infantry platoons
and companies. He also commanded the 1st Light Armored Vehicle Battalion (LAR), Camp Pendleton, CA,
as a major and lieutenant colonel. Finally, during formative years he was a proud “sea going” Marine
serving aboard the aircraft carriers Forrestal and Independence (1979-1980).
General Kelly was also a trainer and an educator at The Basic School, Quantico, VA, first as the head of the
Offensive Tactics Section, Tactics Group, and later as the Director of the Infantry Officer Course (19871990). After three years of instructing, shaping and mentoring some of the very finest young men and
women this country produces to be Marine Officers, he then attended the Marine Corps Command & Staff
College and the School for Advanced Warfare, both located at Quantico (1990-1992).
After completing two years in command of 1st LAR (1992-1994) and duty under instruction at the National
War College, he was selected by the Commandant of the Marine Corps to serve as his personal liaison to the
U.S. House of Representatives, Capitol Hill (1995-1999). Promoted to colonel while on the Hill he next
served on joint duty as the Special Assistant to the Supreme Allied Commander (Generals Clarke &
Ralston), Europe, Mons, Belgium.
Returning to the U.S in 2001 he was assigned to a third tour of duty at Camp Lejeune, now as the Assistant
Chief of Staff for operations (G-3) with the 2nd Marine Division. Then the Trade Towers and pentagon were
attacked. Selected for brigadier general that year he was transferred for duty with the 1st Marine Division as
the assistant division commander assisting the commanding general in preparing the unit for the war we
knew was coming. The majority of the two years with the division (2002-2004) was spent fighting in Iraq
most notably participating in the “March Up” to Baghdad, then as Commander, “Task Force Tripoli,” that
liberated the Baghdad – Tikrit – Baiji corridor of operations, then back with the division main executing
counterinsurgency operations in al Anbar Province including the cities of Fallujah, Ramadi, Hit, Rawah, and
al Qaim.
Returning home from the war zone General Kelly was assigned duties as the Legislative Assistant to the
Commandant of the Marine Corps, and Deputy Assistant Legislative Assistant to the Secretary of the Navy
(2004-2007). During this time in the pentagon General Kelly was promoted to major general and returned to
Camp Pendleton, CA. He now assumed duties as the Commanding General, I Marine Expeditionary Force
(Forward) deploying back to Iraq in early 2008 for a 12+ month tour in the west (al Anbar and western
Ninewa Provinces). Almost immediately after his return in 2009 General Kelly was nominated, confirmed by
the senate, and promoted to lieutenant general. He was privileged to take command of Marine Forces
Reserve and Marine Forces North, New Orleans, LA (2009-2011). A second assignment as a lieutenant
general brought him back to the pentagon as the Senior Military Assistant to Defense Secretaries Gates and
Panetta until October 2012. Again confirmed for promotion he was subsequently promoted to the rank of
general assuming command of United States Southern Command on November 19, 2012. General Kelly
relinquished command on 12 January 2016 and transferred to the retired list on 1 February.
CSM Patrick Alston, USArmy (Ret)
Command Sergeant Major Patrick Z. Alston is a native
of Columbus, Georgia. He is a graduate of Columbus
High School. After graduation, he subsequently enlisted
into the United States Army where he completed Basic
Training at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
His initial assignment was at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, as a
Medical Specialist. Subsequent assignments include
Medical Specialist with 3rd Battalion, 325th Infantry
Regiment, and 82nd Airborne Division. In 1984 he
reclassified to the Chemical Corps and was assigned as
a squad leader with 4th Chemical Company, 2nd Infantry
Division; NBC NCO and Squad Leader with Alpha
Company, 3rd Battalion, 73rd Armor, 82nd Airborne Division; Battalion NBC NCO with
3rd Battalion, 73rd Armor, 82nd Airborne Division; Senior NBC Operations and Staff

Command Sergeant Major John Wayne Troxell
Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
Army Command Sergeant Major John Wayne Troxell is
the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff, and the senior noncommissioned officer
in the U.S. Armed Forces. In this role, he serves as the
principal military advisor to the Chairman and the
Secretary of Defense on all matters involving joint and
combined total force integration, utilization, health of the
force and joint development for enlisted personnel.
CSM Troxell enlisted in the U.S. Army in September
1982 as an armored reconnaissance specialist and
graduated One Station Unit Training at Fort Knox, Ky.
CSM Troxell has served in the Army over 30 years in
numerous units throughout his career. They include the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment
in Fort Bliss, Texas; two tours in Germany with the 3rd Armored Division, and the 3rd
Infantry Division; two tours in the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C. with
deployments to Panama, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq; Campbell University ROTC in Buies
Creek, N.C.; and the Special Operations Division of Joint Task Force Six (Counter
Drug) in El Paso, Texas. He has served as the Command Sergeant Major of the 3rd
Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y., and in Iraq;
the Regimental Command Sergeant Major of the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment in both
Fort Polk, La., and Fort Lewis, Wash.; the Command Sergeant Major of the 4th Stryker
Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, WA., and in Iraq; the 21st
Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army Armor Center and Fort Knox, Ky.; the
Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army Accessions Command and Human
Resource Center of Excellence at Fort Knox, Ky.; the Command Sergeant Major of I
Corps at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.; the Command Sergeant Major of the

CSM Troxell’s five combat tours of duty include making the combat parachute jump and
service in Operation Just Cause in Panama, Operation Desert Shield/Storm, two tours
in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
CSM Troxell’s military education includes Ranger, Airborne, Jumpmaster, Pathfinder,
the Primary Leadership Development Course, the Basic Noncommissioned Officer
Course, the Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, and the First Sergeants
Course. He is a graduate of Class 51 of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy and
the Command Sergeants Major Course. CSM Troxell is also a graduate of the National
Defense University Keystone Joint Command Senior Enlisted Leader Course, the U.S.
Army War College Strategic Leader Development Course, the Army Strategic Leader
Development Program (Intermediate) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,
and the Army Strategic Leader Development Program (Advanced). Additionally, CSM
Troxell is a Fellow at the Asia Pacific Center for Strategic Studies in Honolulu, Hawaii.
CSM Troxell’s civilian education includes a Master’s Degree in Business Administration
with a concentration in Strategic Leadership from Trident University in California.

Major General Andrew B. Davis, U.S. Marine Corps (Retired), assumed
the duties of senior director of Capstone, Pinnacle and Keystone courses
on 19 October 2015. General Davis retired from the Marine Corps in
October 2008 after a 38-year military career as an infantry officer including
tours in three wars: Vietnam, Desert Storm and the global war on
terrorism. He has combined careers as a Marine officer, journalist, media
executive, educator and professional association CEO. Most recently, he
retired from a three-year tour as executive director of the Reserve Officers
Association of the United States, the congressionally- chartered policy
advocate for all uniformed services of the United States.
Davis commanded Marines at all levels from rifle platoon to infantry
battalion to combatant command component force. He was the director of Marine Corps Public
Affairs at the Pentagon from 2001 to 2003. There, he led the development of the embedding
program for frontline journalists in the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts. Davis subsequently
commanded U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa from 2005 to 2007, and then the
Marine Corps Mobilization Command until his retirement.
His personal decorations include the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior
Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Navy-Marine Corps
Commendation Medal.
In his civilian profession, Davis worked in the newspaper industry as reporter, editor, publisher,
and educator. Davis began his career in journalism as an award-winning reporter and editor for
Copley Newspapers. Then, for 10 years, he was group publisher and newspaper operations
vice president of a 41-newspaper group based in the suburbs of Chicago, vice president of The
Sun-Times Company and president of Chicago Sun-Times Features, Inc. He launched
Performance Media, a custom-publishing division he conceived and developed into a multimillion dollar venture. Davis joined the Media Management Center at Northwestern University as
Director of Innovation and Business Development and became a clinical professor of media
management at the Medill School of Journalism which conducted mid-career development
programs at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. He authored a prescriptive manual
for new product development in media companies and consulted internationally on innovation.
He was a presenter annually at the Scandinavian International Management Institute Leaders
Course in Copenhagen.
Davis served as president and executive director of the American Press Institute from 2003 to
2011. At API, he conceived the Newspaper Next project, which pioneered concepts for new
business models for traditional media. He was a frequent presenter on innovation and the media
industry at the Eisenhower Industrial College of the Armed Forces of the National Defense
University. He holds a Bachelors of Arts cum laude in English Literature from Princeton
University, a Master’s degree with distinction in Journalism from Northwestern University’s
Medill School, and is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College.
Bonnie Swanson

Bonnie Swanson is a native of Ellington, CT
and a graduate of Ellington High School. After her
freshman year at the University of Connecticut, she
enlisted in the USMCR. Upon completing recruit
training at Parris Island, SC, Bonnie returned to
UCONN to continue her studies and reserve service
with 6th Motor Transport Battalion, Providence, RI.
In 1988 she graduated from UCONN with a Liberal
Arts degree (Sociological and Educational Behavior
Development) and accepted her commission in the
USMC. After completion of The Basic School in
1989 and her assignment as a Military Police
Officer, Bonnie reported to MCAS Cherry Point, NC for duty as a Platoon
Commander and Services Officer.
In 1992, Bonnie was assigned as the Operations Officer for Recruiting
Station, Baltimore, MD. Serving as an OpsO for 3 years, Bonnie was selected as
the 4th Marine Corps District Contact Team Officer, Harrisburg, PA. Leading a
team of three Master Gunnery Sergeants, the Contact Team trained over 350
recruiters and command group members within a 7 state area.
In 1997 Bonnie received orders to MCB, Camp Lejeune, NC as the
Operations Officer, Provost Marshal’s Office. She simultaneously served as the
Commanding Officer, Military Police Company (330+ Marines) during this tour.
In May of 2000 after 11 years of service, Bonnie resigned her commission to
accompany her husband, CWO4 Bret Swanson, USMC on his orders to
Washington, DC. Bret retired from the military in 2002 and now serves as the
Assistant Sergeant at Arms for Operations, US Senate.
In January of 2001, Bonnie was hired by the National Defense University as
the Executive Officer of Capstone. Over the years her position has evolved into
the Deputy Director of Pinnacle (3 star course), Capstone, and Keystone
(Command Senior Enlisted course).
Bonnie has numerous military decorations and has attended many military
schools, including the Basic Law Enforcement Academy at Lackland AFB, TX and
the Advanced Military Police Academy at Fort McClellan, AL. She is still a
record holder at UCONN for many soccer goalkeeping statistics, including the
most shutouts in a career (41.5).
In 2005 Bonnie completed a Masters Degree in Organizational Management
from the University of Phoenix. In 2008, she and Bret built their retirement home
in Capon Bridge, WV – where you can find them EVERY weekend.

Biography - Warrant Officer J Alpert
Station Warrant Officer RAF Halton
My career started 26 years ago in 89 with 15 Squadron RAF Regt at RAF
Hullavington; during this time I completed my first operational tour to Northern
Ireland. Whilst with 15 Sqn RAF Regt I volunteered for parachute duties and
completed my Pre-Parachute Selection Course and Basic Parachute Course in Mar
90 before moving to II Sqn RAF Regt, also at RAF Hullavington before moving to
RAF Catterick and then RAF Honington. I spent 11 years with II Sqn RAF Regt
completing operational tours of Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Kuwait, Bosnia, Kosovo
and Sierra Leone, during which time I was promoted to Cpl.
In 2001 I was posted to the RAF FP Centre at RAF Honington. After 14 months in a training position I was
promoted to Sgt and posted to 27 Sqn RAF Regt part of the Joint NBC Regt. I applied for the exchange
position with 45 Commando, Royal Marines and completed the All Arms Commando Course in 2004. My
appointment was as Troop Sergeant on a Close Combat Company in the role of a Company Platoon
Weapons Instructor. I completed various tours with the Royal Marines in Iraq, Norway and Afghanistan.
I was then posted to 2 RAF FP Wing HQ at RAF Leeming and immediately deployed on Operation TELIC 10
alongside 34 Sqn RAF Regt. On promotion to FS in September 2008 I was posted back to II Sqn RAF Regt
where I deployed on Op HERRICK 10.
On promotion to WO in Nov 2010 I moved to RAF Shawbury as the SWO. In Apr 2011 I was posted to II
Sqn RAF Regt, completing Op HERRICK 15 as the Sqn WO. In Apr 13 I deployed on Op HERRICK 18 as
the KAF GSM. In Mar 2014 I was appointed Officer Commanding Training Assurance Cell for the RAF
Regiment Training Wing at RAF Honington. I am currently serving a RAF Halton as the Station Warrant
Officer under Project TITAN.
I have two daughters, Paislee 16 and Mia 11, from a previous marriage. I am married to Jessica, we now
live in married quarters at RAF Halton and partake in as many social events as work allows. A keen
sportsman, I enjoy boxing, going to the gymnasium, running and the occasional military physical challenge.

Sergeant Major Steven Bishop Jr. was born and raised in Richmond, IN. He enlisted in the United
States Army Reserve on February 12, 1992 and entered active duty on June 16, 1993. SGM
Bishop transitioned to the Army National Guard on January 2nd , 2001. He has held duty positions
as Fire Support Specialist, Forward Observer, Company Fire Support NCO, Small Group Leader,
Battalion Fire Support Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, Operations Sergeant, First Sergeant,
Operations Sergeant Major, Battalion Command Sergeant Major and Garrison Command
Sergeant Major.

Command Master Chief Shaun Brahmsteadt (AW/SW/IDW) U.S. Navy
Master Chief Shaun Brahmsteadt is currently assigned as the
Command Master Chief of Naval Air Systems Command in
Patuxent River, Maryland.
Brahmsteadt entered naval service July 3, 1985, attending Recruit
Training in San Diego, California. He next completed Radioman
‘A’ School, also in San Diego.
Brahmsteadt’s first sea tour was on board USS Truxtun (CGN
35) from 1987 to 1989. He then commissioned and served on
board USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) from 1990 to 1991, and
followed this up with another sea tour on board USS Mississippi
(CGN 40) from 1992 to 1993. His next sea tour was on board USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) from
1996 to 1998. He also served at sea on board USS Duluth (LPD 9), where he was the operations
department senior enlisted leader, from 2001 to 2004. His first tour as a command master chief
was with the Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 14 “Tophatters” from 2006 to 2009. While assigned
to VFA-14, he earned his Plane Captain qualification, to include brake rider, duct diver, and final
checker qualifications. His next tour as a command master chief was with Carrier Air Wing
(CVW) 11 from 2009 to 2010. His most recent command was as the command master chief for
the USS George Washington stationed out of Yokosuka, Japan
His shore duty assignments include Naval Facility Pacific Beach, Washington, from 1986 to
1987, Head Quarters, Allied Forces Southern in Naples, Italy, from 1993 to 1996, and as a
recruiter for Naval Recruiting District San Diego, California, from 1998 to 2001. He also served
as the assistant communications officer for Commander, Naval Forces Pacific, San Diego,
California, from 2004 to 2006. He has also been assigned as one of four command master
chief/chief of the Boat class facilitators at Command Leadership School in Newport, Rhode
Island, from August 2010 to April 2012.
Brahmsteadt’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious
Service Medal (3 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy Achievement Medal

CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT TERESA R. CLAPPER
Chief Master Sergeant Teresa Clapper is the Command
Chief Master Sergeant, 47th Flying Training Wing,
Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas. She serves as the
principle advisor to the wing commander on all issues
affecting the health, morale, welfare, professional
development and readiness of nearly 2,600 military and
civilian personnel engaged in executing more than
51,000 annual aircraft sorties in support of Laughlin’s
Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training mission. She
advises unit commanders, group superintendents and
first sergeants on quality of life issues impacting a
community of 5,700 personnel and provides direction
pertaining to the proper training, utilization and
development of the wing's 473 enlisted Airmen.
Chief Master Sergeant Clapper grew up in Colcord,
Oklahoma. She entered the Air Force in April 1992.
After basic military training, she served as a Supply
Journeyman until 1999 when she retrained as a
Manpower Analyst. Her assignments include bases in
Nebraska, Utah, North Dakota, Illinois, and Virginia.
Chief Clapper also served overseas in the Republic of
Korea and Turkey.
Chief Clapper completed numerous temporary duties at several locations in Southwest Asia supporting the
development of the Air Expeditionary Force from 1995-1999. She also deployed to Southwest Asia in support of
Operation Enduring Freedom.

CMDCM (SW/AW) Lateef N. Compton
Command Master Chief Petty Officer Compton was born in Hartford, CT. He graduated from
Bloomfield High School in 1993 and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1994. Following Basic
Training in Great Lakes, IL, he attended MS “A” School in San Diego, CA.
Upon graduation from CS “A” School, he reported for duty to the USS GEORGE
WASHINGTON (CVN 73) in Norfolk, VA as first a cook-on-watch, then quickly promoted to
Watch Captain. This is where he helped his team of Mess Specialist win the Edward F. Ney
Award for food excellence.
Ashore, Master Chief Compton was stationed at NETC Newport, RI from December 1998 to
January 2002. Here he served as the CBH manger and the Front Desk Supervisor. In his short
time ashore he helped Naval Station Newport earn its Five-Star Admiral Zumwalt accreditation
for excellence in hotel hospitality.
In 2002 he returned to sea-duty assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron- EIGHT-TWO (VFA-82)
where he was named “Junior Sailor of the Year” in 2002 and “Sailor of the Year” in 2004. He
completed two deployments onboard the USS ENTERPRISE and one onboard the USS
ABRAHAM LINCOLN for Operation Enduring Freedom. In September 2005 he helped
decommission VFA-82.
In November 2005 after attending Enlisted Recruiting Orientation (ENRO) he reported to NRD
Philadelphia were he served as Recruiter-in-Charge and Zone Supervisor. He also served as the
Command Managed Equal Opportunity (CMEO) Manager and the Command Assessment Team
(CAT) Leader.
In November 2008 he reported to class # 142 of the Senior Enlisted Academy (SEA).
In January of 2009 he transferred to the USS O’KANE were he assumed the duties as the Supply
Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. Only after three weeks onboard he assumed duties as
the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the retired CMC.
In March of 2010 Master Chief Compton was selected by the Navy to serve as a Command
Senior Chief and was directed to attend a joint training school at the Army Sergeants Major
Academy - class # 62.
In July of 2011 he made his third trip back to Naval Station Newport to attend the CMC/COB
course – class # 91.
On August 11, 2011 Command Master Chief Compton reported to USS CORONADO LCS4 to
serve as the CMC and the 3M Coordinator.
On October 15th, 2014 Command Master Chief reported to NCTS Naples, Italy.
Master Chief Compton has an Associate of Science Degree in Management and a Bachelor’s of
Science Degree in Management from Park University. He completed his graduate degree with
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in Arts with a leadership concentration.
His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four
awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), the Military Outstanding
Volunteer Service Medal, and various unit citations. Additionally, he is authorized to wear the
Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS)
designations.
CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT ANTHONY CRUZ MUNOZ
Chief Master Sergeant Anthony Cruz Munoz is the 100th Air Refueling
Wing Command Chief Master Sergeant, Royal Air Force Station
Mildenhall, England. He is the senior enlisted leader responsible to the
commander for the professional development, military readiness, and
mission effectiveness of over 3,000 Airmen. He advises the commander on
concerns, attitudes, morale, welfare, and effective utilization of the enlisted
force. Chief Cruz also promotes quality of life initiatives to improve living
quarters, dining facilities, and recreational activities for all assigned Airmen
and their families.
Chief Cruz entered the Air Force in September 1990. His background
includes diverse duties within the personnel career field serving at the unit,
base, Air Force Major Command, Joint Command, and Headquarters Air
Force Personnel Center levels. He also served as a First Sergeant for four
years with duties at the squadron and group level. As a SMSgt, he was
competitively selected to retrain into the contracting career field. He
deployed as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Defense Contracts
Management Agency, Afghanistan and led personnel in 29 Forward
Operating Bases, providing contracting support to the warfighter and coalition forces. Before assuming his current
position, Chief served as the Interim Command Chief for the 18th Wing, Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, the largest

CMDCM(SW) Christian D. Detje
CMDCM Detje, a native of Danbury Connecticut, enlisted in September
of 1989. He completed Recruit training in Orlando and Basic Electronics
School. Upon completion, he transferred to Electronics Technician A
School in Great Lakes, IL.
His first Duty Station was USS OLDENDORF (DD-972) stationed out
of Japan, Long Beach and San Diego, California. His Duties included
work center supervisor for Communications Repair. In September 1995
he transferred to ALLIED COMMAND ATLANTIC COMMUNICATIONS
LOGISTICS DEPOT in Yorktown, VA, where he served as a high-speed
data technician and installer.
In January 1999 he reported to USS OBANNON (DD-987) homeported
in Mayport, Florida where he was assigned as workcenter supervisor and Leading Petty Officer of CE
Division. His success during this tour earned him selection as the Sailor of the Year for Commander
Naval Surface Group Two.
In August 2002 he report to Naval Personnel Command and was assigned as a detailer for Special Sea
Programs where he oversaw the manning and training of numerous DDGs, LPDs and CNO Special
Projects. In September of 2003 he was selected to Chief Petty Officer.
In June of 2005 he reported to USS Gettysburg (CG-64) homeported in Mayport, Florida where he was
assigned as LCPO of CE Division and Combat Systems Department. He was advanced to Senior Chief
Petty Officer in 2007.
In August of 2008, he reported aboard Training Support Center Great Lakes, where he was assigned as a
Student Division Commander. From August 2009 to April of 2010, he served in Afghanistan as an
Individual Augmentee and was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer in April of 2010. He was selected
to the Command Master Chief Program in February of 2011, completed Command Leadership School
and was assigned to Hawaii’s Destroyer USS CHUNG-HOON (DDG-93).
While assigned as Command Master Chief of the USS CHUNG-HOON , the ship completed 2 successful

7 Fleet Deployments, RIMPAC 2012 and multiple National and Multinational Exercises, culminating in
the USS CHUNG-HOON’s selection as the Battle “E” ship for DESRON 31 in 2013.
In March of 2014 He reported onboard as the Command Master Chief of the Navy’s Ceremonial Guard in
Washington DC.

CMDCM Detje has completed numerous deployments to the 5 Fleet, 7 Fleet , UNITAS Deployments
and Counter Narcotic Drug Operations. In July of 2008 he graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy
(class 139). His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps
Commendation Medal (five awards), the Joint Service Achievement Medal Commendation Medal, and
the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT MICHAEL R. DITORE
Chief Master Sergeant Michael R. Ditore is the 432d Wing
and 432d Air Expeditionary Wing Command Chief Master
Sergeant, Creech Air Force Base, Nevada. He is the
principal advisor to the commander and senior staff on
operational matters and issues affecting the morale, welfare,
safety compliance and effective utilization of more than
3,700 Active duty, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve
government civilians and contract personnel across a wing
staff and two groups.
The 432d Wing is responsible for the operations and
maintenance of more than 130 Remotely Piloted Aircraft
(RPA) and is the Air Force’s first RPA Wing. The wing
deploys and employs MQ-1B Predator, MQ-9 Reaper and
RQ-170 Sentinel RPA performing operational combat
surveillance and attack operations world-wide while also
conducting the Air Force’s only MQ-1B Predator pilot and
sensor operator formal training course. In addition, the
432d Air Expeditionary Wing has operational command
over more than 625 Air National Guard personnel located
in New York, Texas, Arizona, California and North Dakota.
Chief Ditore entered the Air Force in October 1991. He graduated from the tactical aircraft maintenance
specialist course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, in February 1992. He has an extensive background in
aircraft maintenance on various weapons systems including the F-15, F-16, MQ-1, MQ-9, and HH-60.
Throughout his career he has filled numerous roles to include a special duty tour with the United States Air
Force Air Demonstration Squadron (Thunderbirds), and leadership positions at unit, squadron, and group
levels. His assignments include bases in Germany, Nevada, Alaska, Idaho and South Korea.

CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT KENNETH E. EASON
Chief Master Sergeant Kenneth E. Eason is the Squadron
Superintendent of the 914th Logistic Readiness Squadron,
Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station (ARS), New York. He
oversees training forecasts, medical requirements and
performance standards in the Logistic Readiness Squadron;
verifies that personnel are trained and equipped properly
ensuring consistent unit readiness. Chief Master Sergeant
Eason advises the Squadron Commander and Flight
Superintendents on disciplinary corrective measures and
assists with the leading of 85 Logistics personnel in 6
different flights, Quality Assurance and Command Support
Staff.
Chief Master Sergeant Kenneth Eason enlisted in the Air
Force 31 March 1998, graduating from Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base,
Texas and Fire Technical School at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas both as an Honor
Graduate.
Chief Eason excelled as a Firefighter in the 914th Civil Engineering Squadron and was soon
appointed as Assistant Chief of Operation before deciding to apply for a First Sergeant position.
He was chosen to join the First Sergeant Cadre facilitating mission requirements of over 100 Air
Reserve Technicians, Traditional Reservists and civilians for the Force Support Squadron
Commander, Mission Support Group Commander and Air Wing Commanders simultaneously.
After his 3 year tour as a First Sergeant, Chief Eason returned to his roots in Civil Engineering
and was selected to the Deputy Chief of Fire position. He served in that position for one year
before being recruited by Logistic Readiness Squadron Commander challenging him to be the
Materiel Management Superintendent. Because of his work restructuring Materiel Management,
Chief Eason was then selected to be Logistic Readiness Squadron Superintendent.
Chief Eason serves as facilitator and evaluator for the Non Commissioned Officer Leadership
Development Course and Senior Non Commissioned Officer Leadership Development Course.
He used his unique abilities to facilitate over 30 leadership classes assisting in the development
of approximately 500 Non Commissioned Officers and Senior Non Commissioned Officers
across Air Force Reserve Command.
Chief Eason has volunteered to serve on several deployments in support of Deployed Operation
Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom earning an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

CMSgt Paul M. Elliott III is the Command Chief for the 374th
Airlift Wing, Yokota Air Base, Japan. As the senior enlisted

Chief Elliott entered the Air Force in August of 1994. His

including the Chief, Vice Presidential Transportation and
superintendent at squadron and group levels. His assignments

CSM Alan Ferris was born and grew up in the Western
Highlands of Virginia. He enlisted in the Virginia Army
National Guard in February of 1981 and attended Basic and
Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia.
CSM Ferris earned Associates Degrees in Administration of
Justice and Business Management and is currently enrolled
in Liberty University’s on-line bachelor’s degree program.
As a Civilian, he is a Police Lieutenant in the Covington, Virginia Police Department as the
department’s Operations Commander. His duties there have included Emergency Management,
E911 Operations, Investigations, Drug Task Force Investigations, Tactical Team Commander,
General and Firearms Instructor and numerous training events and conference.
His assignments include serving in enlisted positions as a Infantry Rifleman in Co A 2-116th
Infantry, Auto Rifleman, Grenadier, Machine Gunner, Team Leader, Squad Leader and Platoon

CMDCM Kevin Goodrich
Command Master Chief, Expeditionary Strike Group Two
Born in Quincy, Mass. and raised in Kissimmee, Fla., Master Chief Kevin
Goodrich enlisted in the United States Navy in May 1991. After
completing Recruit Training and Electronics Technician “A” school phase
one at Recruit Training Command and Service School Command in
Orlando, he transferred to Naval Training Center Great Lakes Illinois to
complete his training. Upon graduation, he completed several “C”
schools in San Diego, Calif. and Norfolk, Va. before reporting to his first
ship in November 1992.
Master Chief Goodrich’s previous sea duty includes tours in USS
SAGINAW (LST 1188), USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71), USS
CAPE ST GEORGE (CG 71), USS NASSAU (LHA 4), USS WHIDBEY
ISLAND (LSD 41) and USS BATAAN (LHD 5). He has seen multiple deployments to the Indian Ocean,
Persian Gulf, Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea and operations and port visits in both the Northern and
Southern Hemispheres, as well as Hurricane Relief efforts in Galveston, TX following hurricane Ike.
Ashore, Master Chief served at Fleet Training Center, Norfolk as an instructor, Fleet Technical Support
Center/Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center, Norfolk as a field service engineer and as the
Command Master Chief of Naval Support Activity, Hampton Roads. He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted
Academy and the CMC/COB Courses in Newport, RI. He is currently serving as the Command Master
Chief of Expeditionary Strike Group Two.
Master Chief Goodrich is designated as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare
Specialist and Master Training Specialist. He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards),
Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4
awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal (8 awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
Scott N. Haymaker

Sergeant Major Scott N. Haymaker is a native of
Johnstown in the south central region of Pennsylvania.
He is currently serving on a tour of Active Duty as the
European Command J5/8 Senior Enlisted Leader,
Stuttgart Germany.
SGM Haymaker was born in DuBois, Pennsylvania and
entered into active military service with the U.S. Army
in August of 1988. He attended basic combat training
and advanced individual training at Fort McClellan,
Alabama as a military police Soldier. He completed his
initial enlistment on active duty in September of 1993
and after a brief break in service joined the
Pennsylvania Army National Guard in June of 1996.
SGM Haymaker’s military education includes: Primary Leadership Development Course,
Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course,
First Sergeants Course, Military Police Investigators Course, Non-Lethal Weapons
Instructors Course, Air Assault Course, and the Protective Services Course. He is a 2012
graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy and a graduate of the
NATO Command Senior Enlisted Course. He holds Bachelor of Science Degree in
Criminology from Colorado Technical University and is currently pursuing a Masters
Degree from California University of Pennsylvania.
SGM Haymaker has served as the SEGA to Cadet Command Fort Knox, NATO
Headquarters Sarajevo CSM from 2012- 2013, 28th ID Provost Marshal SGM, and has
deployed for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Iraq, Operation Joint Guard in
Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq. SGM Haymaker has also
served at the National Drug Intelligence Center as the National Guard Counter Drug
Program subject matter expert in the field of counterdrug operations and as a criminal
analyst.
His awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious
Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4th
Award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct

Robert Hill
Mr. Robert L. “Rob” Hill is a retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant (E-9), having spent over 30 years of
his active duty career in Logistics. During his military career he served in almost every Air Force Major
Command and served at every level of command except at the Pentagon. His final assignment was as
the Air Force Materiel Command Career Field Manager for over 3,000 military and civilian Supply
personnel. Following his military career, Mr. Hill entered civil service in July 2006 and has served in his
current position as Chief, Supply Chain Integration at Headquarters Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA) since August 2008. In that capacity, he is responsible for the cradle to grave
management of emergency response resources. Those emergency response resources include
perishable commodities such as meals, water, as well as infant and toddler meals and formula. Also
included are numerous other non-perishable commodities required to provide support to sheltered and
non-sheltered survivors during presidentially declared national emergencies and disasters. He received
his B.S. in Management from Park University and his M. A. in Procurement and Acquisition Management
from Webster University. Mr. Hill serves as the Program for the Inter-Agency Agreements (IAA)
between FEMA and US Army Public Health Center, Defense Logistics Agency, and General Services
Administration. Mr. Hill is extremely passionate about ensuring that 100 percent of the subsistence
commodities shipped in support of disaster survivors are fit for human consumption. Mr. Hill is a
Certified Level II Acquisition Program Manager, a Certified Government Contracting Officer, and a
Certified Level III Contracting Officer Representative. He is also a graduate of University of North
Carolina’s Advanced Program in Logistics and Technology as well as Duke University’s Institute for
Defense and Business Cooperation in Stability Operations Program. He is FEMA Logistics Management
Directorate’s first and only Chief of Supply Chain Integration to date.

Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Pierrot Jetté
CWO J.O.P. Jetté was born in the province of Quebec and prior to joining the Canadian Forces,
in July 1983, he lived mostly in the Montreal area.
Following his graduation from the Canadian Forces Recruit School, language training and his
Mobile Support Equipment course in May of 1984, CWO Jetté commenced his operational career
with a posting to 8 Wing Trenton, Wing Logistics and Engineering Branch, Transport Squadron.
While in Trenton, he worked mostly on the airfield as a refuelling and heavy equipment operator.
He completed his QL5A, Airfield Special Purpose Vehicle Operator qualification and participated
in Exercise Rendez-vous 87 and 89 with the 1st Forward Surgical Hospital.
In 1989, he was posted to 4 Service Battalion, Lahr, Germany, where he completed the Combat
Leaders’ Course, a number of field exercises and, during the Gulf War, a four month logistic
support task at the US Air Force Base of Ramstein, Germany. In July 1992, he was promoted to
MCpl and posted to 15 Wing Moose Jaw. While at 15 Wing, he deployed to Haiti on Operation
Pivot as a transport section commander.
He returned to 8 Wing Trenton in July 1997 and was promoted to Sgt in May 1998. On promotion
to WO in May 2001 he was posted to Area Support Unit London as the Area Transportation
Officer and while in London he deployed to Bosnia with the 2nd General Service Battalion
Petawawa as Transport Platoon WO. On promotion to Master Warrant Officer in July 2005, he
was posted to the Canadian Forces Joint Support Group (CFJSG) Kingston where he was
employed in different staff positions. While with the CFJSG he deployed to Croatia and in 2006
he deployed to Turkey as the Intermediate Staging Team Sergeant Major.
In July 2008, he was posted to El Gorah, Egypt as the Canadian Contingent Sergeant Major and
Vehicle Fleet Management Advisor for the Multinational Force of Observers. Promoted to CWO
in July 2009, he was posted to CFB Borden as the Base Technical Services CWO. In 2011, he
was selected for the NCM Executive Professional Development Program at the Royal Military
College of Canada and in 2012, he assumed the role of 14 Wing Greenwood CWO. In 2015
CWO Jetté was appointed as the 2 Canadian Air Division CWO.
CWO Jetté enjoys golfing, is married to Tracey (Smith), they have two daughters and two granddaughters.

CMDCM (SW/AW) Jeffrey A. Kirby is a native of Ft.
Lauderdale, FL born in 1969 and entered the Navy in Sep
1987. He completed basic training at Recruit Training
Command Orlando, FL and Aviation Storekeeper (AK) "A"
School in Meridian, MS. His first duty station was NAS
Adak, Alaska, where his primary duties involved supply
support for the P-3B Aircraft. He then transferred to Patrol
Squadron Twenty-Two (VP-22) in Barbers Point, HI
completing two deployments to Okinawa, Japan and Cubi
Point, PI where he was advanced to Second Class Petty
Officer. Following this sea tour he joined the "Scorpions"
of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light Four Nine
(HSL-49) in San Diego, CA working as Tool Control
Coordinator and IMRL Manager.
He accepted a challenging overseas tour at NSA Souda Bay, Crete, Greece where he was
assigned as Hazardous Material Control Program Manager for the installation. He transferred to
USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV-67) home-ported in Mayport, FL in 1997 and was promoted to
First Class during the first of three med cruises on JFK. At NAS Jacksonville, he was assigned
to Aviation Support Detachment (ASD) where he was selected as the NAS Jacksonville and
Commander Navy Region Southeast (CNRSE) Sailor of the Year (SOY) in 2000 and was
promoted to Chief Petty Officer in 2001. After the horrific events of SEP 11th, Chief Kirby,
terminated shore duty to join the JFK once again. He immediately departed for the Middle East
in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom where in 2004, he was advanced
to Senior Chief Petty Officer and assigned as the (S-8) Material Division LCPO.
He graduated with honors from the Senior Enlisted Academy Class 117 (Green) in Newport,
RI before reporting to Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL. He commanded two recruit
divisions before holding various LCPO duties, most notably, RDC "C" School LCPO, the Navy's
only Drill Instructor School. He was selected to the Command Senior Chief Program in 2008
and after graduating the CMC/COB (Class 48) Course he was assigned to USS KLAKRING
(FFG-42). He completed two independent deployments onboard KLAKRING, visiting 40
foreign ports, including a circumnavigation of South America. He was promoted to Master
Chief in May 2009. He then transferred to Patrol Squadron SIXTEEN (VP-16) in March 2011
and completed a deployment to Okinawa Japan with the “War Eagles”, before leading them
through the first ever P-8A Poseidon transition. His current assignment is at Training Support
Center, Great Lakes, IL as the Command Master Chief.
Master Chief is a qualified Master Training Specialist, Aviation and Surface Warfare
Specialist and is entitled to wear the Navy Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy
Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (6 awards) and other various unit
and personal awards.
Chief Petty Officer First Class (CPO1) Derek Kitching
CPO1 Derek Kitching grew-up in Sudbury Ontario and in June 1988, he joined the Navy as a Marine
Engineer Technician. After completing recruit training he spent his first three years in the Navy
attending college St. Lawrence College in Cornwall Ontario under the Marine Engineering
Technologist Training Program (METTP).
In 1991, after successfully completing METTP, Derek was promoted to Master Seaman and posted to
HMCS YUKON, a Destroyer Escort, where he obtained his Boiler Room Watch Keeping Certification.
After decommissioning YUKON in 1993 he was posted to HMCS CALGARY, a Canadian Patrol
Frigate (CPF) as part of its Commissioning Crew. While on CALGARY, Derek obtained his
Combination Gas Turbine or Diesel (CODOG) Certification Level 2 as well as having the honor of
being the President of CALGARY’s Junior Ranks Mess at the time of its commissioning. He also
deployed with CALGARY to the Gulf of Arabia and Mediterranean Sea which included
circumnavigating the globe.
Derek was promoted to Petty Officer 2nd Class in 1996. After being posted to Canadian Forces Fleet
School Esquimalt (CFFSE) as an instructor and computer support specialist, Derek joined the CPF,
HMCS OTTAWA in 1998. There he deployed with the ABRAHAM LINCOLN Battle Group to the
Arabian Sea. During this deployment Derek successfully challenged his (CODOG) Certification Level
Three Certification and was promoted to Petty Officer 1st Class in 1999.
In 2002 Derek was promoted to Chief Petty Officer Second Class and posted back to CFFSE, but this
time as the Regulating Chief. Derek remained at the school until he was posted to the CPF, HMCS
REGINA as its Chief Engineer. While onboard REGINA he deployed for numerous exercises
including RIMAPC ’04, and WESTPLOY. In 2006 after serving on HMCS REGINA he was posted to
Director Maritime Equipment Program Management (Submarines) (MEPM(SM)), in Ottawa as the
Deputy Project Manager for HMCS WINDSOR’s Refit; Canada’s newly acquired submarine.
In March 2009, Derek was promoted to Chief Petty Officer 1st Class and assumed the role as First
Level Policy Officer. In June that same year, he was posted to Director General Military Personnel in
Ottawa and assumed the position of Career Manager for the Marine Engineering Trade. In the
summer of 2011, Derek was appointed COXN (senior non-commission member) of HMCS CALGARY
and in 2012 was appointed as COXN of HMCS REGINA and deployed for the Arabian Gulf for nine
months as part of OP ARTIMIS. Upon his return in 2013, Derek attended the yearlong French
Course. While attending this course, he was invested into the Order of Military Merit. In 2014, Derek
was posted to Personnel Coordination Centre (PCC) as its Unit Chief.
Derek, along with his lovely wife, two children and faithful greyhound share a house in beautiful
Victoria BC. This summer, Derek will take-over the position of Fleet Chief for the Canadian Navy’s
West Coast Fleet.

Chief Master Sergeant Chris Lantagne is the Command
Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Test Center, Air
Force Materiel Command, Edwards Air Force Base,
California. As Command Chief, he is principle advisor to
the commander and senior staff on all matters pertaining
to morale, welfare, professional development, training and
effective utilization of the center's 18,000 military and
civilian personnel across 3 military installations and 30
geographically separate units. The Air Force Test Center
is a $31 billion enterprise that provides developmental test
and evaluation of experimental and research manned and
unmanned air, space and cyber systems for the military
services, DARPA, NASA and international partners; as
well as operates the Air Force Test Pilot School.
Chief Lantagne was born in Sanford, Maine and entered
the Air Force in July 1990. He’s held numerous
leadership positions in the Health Services Management Career Field, served as a base Career
Assistance Advisor and a Mission Support Squadron First Sergeant. He’s been stationed in
California, Texas, Maryland, Germany and Florida as well as deployed to the Sultanate of Oman
and Afghanistan. Prior to his assignment to Edwards Air Force Base, California he was the
Command Chief Master Sergeant for the 325th Fighter Wing, Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida.

Chief Master Sergeant Sonia T. Lee is the
Command Chief of the 28th Bomb Wing, Ellsworth
Air Force Base, South Dakota. Chief Lee leads the
wing's enlisted force and serves as the primary
advisor to the commander on matters concerning
the morale, welfare, war-fighting effectiveness,
operational utilization and professional
development for more than 3,100 enlisted Airmen

Master Chief Edward Lewis
Master Chief Edward Lewis assumed duties as Command Master Chief
for District Fourteen on 01 June 2016. His primary responsibility is to
advise Admiral Vincent B. Atkins, the Commander of Coast Guard
District Fourteen Office in Honolulu Hi, on issues and initiatives
pertaining to all Coast Guard Members and their families within District
Fourteen. The district includes a 12.2 million square mile area of
operations extending from the Hawaiian Islands, Guam, American
Samoa and activities in Saipan, Singapore and Japan. Most recently
Master Chief Lewis led the Coast Guard’s largest engineering rating as
the Machinery Technician Rating Force Master Chief.
Master Chief Lewis’s previous assignments include engineering and law
enforcement duties at Station Destin, Florida, the USCGC MIDGETT,
Seattle Washington, and USCGC POINT DORAN in Everett,
Washington; engineering department head positions at Station Galveston
Texas, USCGC POINT SPENCER and the USCGC MANOWAR;
instructor at the Chief Petty Officer’s Academy and Command and Operations school in New London,
Connecticut; the Coast Guard Academy as one of the first four Company Chiefs; Sector Guam in the
Northern Mariana Islands as the Sector Command Master Chief; and the 11th School Chief of the Chief
Petty Officer’s Academy in Petaluma, California.
In addition to being a graduate of the Chief Petty Officer’s Academy Class 76, Master Chief Lewis
graduated from the Command Master Chief course Class II and from the Army Sergeant’s Major Academy,
class 57. He served two years on the Coast Guard Commandant’s Leadership Advisory Council, the
Advisory Board for the New London Salvation Army, the Advisory Board for the USO on Guam, as an
analyst on the Outlook Vision Team (10 year Strategy) and the core team for the Evergreen Project (25
year Strategy). Master Chief Lewis holds a Master’s in Human Service Counseling / Military Resilience
with Distinction from Liberty University.
Master Chief Lewis is a Permanent Cutterman with awards including the Coast Guard Meritorious Service
Medal, two Coast Guard Commendation Medals, Coast Guard Achievement Medal, Army Achievement

Lawrence R. “Larry” Linton II

Command Master Chief Linton, the middle son of Phillip
Ray and Kathleen Ann Eddy, was born in Okinawa, Japan.
Although a native of San Angelo, Texas, he enlisted in the U.S.
Navy in July 1987 from Cicero, New York. He attended basic
training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois,
immediately followed by Basic Enlisted Submarine School,
Groton, Connecticut.
Command Master Chief Linton has completed 13
deployments and submarine deterrent patrols in the Western
Pacific Ocean, Eastern Pacific Ocean, Northern Atlantic Ocean, Southern Atlantic Ocean, Arctic
Ocean, Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while serving on various ships and submarines
throughout the Fleet – USS JOHN ADAMS (SSBN 620)(BLUE); USS JAMES MONROE

CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT BRIAN J. MARCHESSAULT
Chief Master Sergeant Brian J. Marchessault is the Command Chief
Master Sergeant, 158th Fighter Wing, Vermont Air National Guard. He
reports directly to the Wing Commander of the 158th Fighter Wing on all
enlisted issues, to include professional military education, enlisted
readiness, force management, promotions, mentorship, morale, family
and community relations, as well as esprit de corps. Chief Marchessault‘s
scope of responsibility includes 1100 Airmen across 1 flying wing,
2 geographically separated units encompassing the 229th Information
Operation Squadron and Civil Support Team, as well as 2 state
partnerships. He is the New England Region 1 representative for the
Enlisted Field Advisory Council and advisor to the Strategic Planning
System for enlisted development.
Chief Marchessault enlisted in the Air Force in September 1985 with the
60th Military Airlift Wing, Travis AFB, CA. He joined the Vermont Air
National Guard in 1995, balancing his civilian employment as a
production superintendent at Rock Tenn Paper Mill. Throughout his
military career, Chief Marchessault served as a Command and Control
Specialist, Airfield Manager, Operations Superintendent and Wing
Command Chief. He was activated in support of Operation NOBLE EAGLE
in 2001, and in 2004 deployed overseas in support of Operation IRAQI
FREEDOM as the Operations NCOIC, Al Udeid AB, Qatar. He then deployed to Balad AB, Iraq in 2006 and
2007. His most recent deployment was to United States Central Command in support of Operation ENDURING
FREEDOM. He assumed his current position in November 2012.

Command Sergeant Major Patrick L. McCauley serves as the Command
Senior Enlisted Leader, Special Operations Command Central.
He entered the U.S. Army in August, 1988 as an Intelligence Analyst.
Upon completion of his initial training as an Intelligence Analyst, CSM
McCauley was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company,
Combat Aviation Brigade, 2nd Infantry, Korea, where he served as an
Intelligence Analyst. In 1989 CSM McCauley was reassigned to
Headquarters and Headquarters Company 2nd Infantry Brigade, Fort
Riley, Kansas, where he served as a Personal Security NCOIC.
Command Sergeant Major McCauley went to Special Forces
Assessment and Selection and the Special Forces Qualification Course
in 1990. He was then assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group in
October 1990, where he served as a Special Forces Communications Sergeant until May 1994. In
1995 CSM McCauley assessed for a Special Mission Unit and served as a Team Member, Assistant
Team Sergeant, Team Sergeant, Troop Sergeant Major, Operations Sergeant Major, Squadron
Command Sergeant Major, and Unit Command Sergeant Major.
Command Sergeant Major McCauley has deployed multiple times throughout his career, supporting
Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, and INHERENT RESOLVE.

Christa Montani
Senior Policy Advisor, Field Operations Directorate, FEMA
As the Senior Policy Advisor for FEMA’s Field Operations Directorate, Christa is responsible for
establishing, maintaining, and assessing policies pertaining to the Agency’s disaster workforce as well as
advising Directorate leadership on efforts to improve the Agency’s operational readiness and ensure
integrated operations.
Christa joined FEMA in 2013 as a management and program analyst in the Incident Workforce
Management Division. Prior to this assignment, Christa served as a Special Assistant on the White
House National Security Council Staff. In this role, she coordinated the review of State requests for
disaster assistance across the Executive Office of the President and provided situational reporting to
senior White House leadership during national disasters and contingencies. Her work experience also
includes multiple years of contract support to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency on both foreign and
domestic Consequence Management issues.
Christa received her Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Service (’08) and her Master’s Degree in Security
Studies (’15) from Georgetown University. She’s a native of Buffalo, NY and currently resides in
Alexandria, VA.

Command Master Chief Harlan B.
Patawaran is a native of San Fernando,
Pampanga, Republic of the Philippines.
He enlisted in the Navy on March 15,
1991 at Subic Bay, Naval Base. Upon
completion of boot camp at Recruit
Training Center, San Diego, he attended
HM “A” School at Naval School of Health
Sciences (NSHS). Upon graduation, he was
assigned to Naval Hospital Corpus
Christi, Texas from October 1991 until
March 1993. After his successful tour,
he proceeded to HM “C-school” Operating
Room Technician NEC 8483 at NSHS San
Diego, California.
Upon completion, he transferred to
Naval Medical Center San Diego from
October 1993 to January 1997. In January
1997, he transferred to Fleet Surgical
Team Nine onboard USS Boxer LHD-4 from
January 1997 to January 1999 and deployed Western Pacific in 1997 and RIMPAC
in 1998.
In January 1999, he transferred to Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton and
assigned as the Leading Petty Officer for the Main Operating Room and Sterile
Processing Department.
In 2002, he reported to Field Medical Service School enroute to 1st Marine
Division. He reported to 3rd Battalion 1st Marines as the Leading Petty
Officer for Operation Iraqi Freedom I in 2003. He transferred to 1st Marine
Regiment, Regimental Aid Station in September 2003 and later redeployed in
February 2004 for Operation Iraqi Freedom II under Regimental Combat Team-1
in Fallujah, Al Anbar Province. Upon return from OIF II in September 2004, he
proceeded to 5th Battalion, 11th Marines Artillery until his transfer.
In August 2005, he proceeded to Naval Medical Center San Diego and held
numerous positions as Senior Enlisted Leader, Navy Medicine West Retention
Coordinator, Command Career Counselor, Asst. Plans Operations Medical
Intelligence (POMI) and Manpower Chief. In 2008, he was augmented to support
Cobra Gold 2008 in Korat, Thailand as the Senior Enlisted Leader for the
Joint Medical Cell leading Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen.
In March 2009, he transferred to Expeditionary Combat Readiness Center FWD
Afghanistan and deployed to Afghanistan later that year as the Senior
Enlisted Advisor for all Embedded Training Teams in Afghanistan Regional
Security Integration Command-West and Senior Enlisted Leader for Joint
Medical Operation Cell leading Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen in Herat,
Afghanistan.
In March 2010, he reported to 1st Marine Logistics Group as Senior Enlisted
Leader for Combat Logistics Regiment-1 and Acting Command Master Chief.
In July 2010, he transferred to Field Medical Training Battalion West as
the Command Master Chief.
In February 2014, he was selected to the Command Master Chief Program
(9580) and assumed duties as the Command Master Chief for 1st Marine
Logistics Group.
Command Master Chief Patawaran’s qualifications include the Enlisted Fleet
Marine Force Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist. His
personal decorations include Meritorious Service Medal 2nd Award, Navy
Commendation Medal 4th Award, Navy Achievement Medal with Combat “V” and three
stars, Combat Action Ribbon, U.S. Army Combat Action Badge, Military
Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Navy Pistol and Rifle Expert as well as

Command Master Chief Patawaran is a graduate of the Navy’s Senior Enlisted

CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT SHANE H.PILGRIM
Chief Master Sergeant Shane H. Pilgrim is an
Operations Group Senior Enlisted Advisor at an Air
Force Special Operations unit. He is responsible for
enlisted supervision of multiple geographically
separated squadrons and ensures effective
utilization of over 500 military and civilian personnel.
CMSgt Pilgrim entered the Air Force in August, 1991
as a Vehicle Mechanic and later retrained into the
Aircraft Loadmaster career field. He is a veteran of
numerous contingencies including Operations
Restore Hope, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi
Freedom. He has amassed close to 4000 hours of
aircraft flight time including over 700 hours of
combat time, in multiple aircraft including the
C130E, AC130U, C17A, UH-60 and CN-235.

State Command Sergeant Major Edward Santiago
Command Sergeant Major Edward Santiago was born in
Manhattan, New York. He entered military service in
November 1979 to August 1985- Assigned to 4th Division 314 Gulf Battery, United States Marine Corp Reverse
(USMCR) West Trenton, NJ.
On November 1987, Command Sergeant Major joined the
New Jersey Army National Guard and was assigned to HHC
3/102nd Armor Cavalry and then to Troop C 5-117th
Cavalry. Through his 26 years assignment in the Cavalry, he
held various leadership positions to included First Sergeant of
C Troop, 5/117th Cavalry.
After Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) 2008-2009 deployment, Command Sergeant Major was
assigned to the 50th Brigade Special Troop Battalion (BSTB) B Company Military Intelligence
as the First Sergeant and in 2010; Command Sergeant Major was selected and appointed as 50th
Brigade S-3 Operational Sergeant Major. Then in 2011, he was assigned to the 114th Infantry as
the Operational Sergeant Major and later the Battalion’s Command Sergeant Major.
On February 1, 2013, Command Sergeant Major was reassigned and designated as the new
Brigade Command Sergeant Major of the 50th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT). On March
1, 2014, Command Sergeant Major was selected as the new incoming State Command Sergeant
Major.
Command Sergeant Major military education includes all four Noncommissioned Officers
Development Courses culminating in his graduation from the Sergeants Major Academy in May
of 2011. Command Sergeant Major Santiago has earned a Bachelor of Science (Criminal Justice)
from Thomas Edison College, a Master Degree (Human Resources Training and Development)
from Seton Hall University and a Graduate Certificate (Fusion Center Leader’s Program) Center
for Homeland Defense and Security, Naval Postgraduate School.
Command Sergeant Major Santiago’s awards and decorations include: Order of Saint Maurice,
Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2), Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Army

CSM Santiago retired from the New Jersey State Police as a Major where he served in various
assignments to include Counter Terrorism Bureau, FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, Regional
Intelligence Fusion Center Deputy Director to finally Field Operations Section, Troop “A”
Commander. He is married to the former Gail Przybylek from Kenilworth, NJ. They have three
children, Edward, Caroline, Christian, Daughter-In-Law Carli and three grandsons Ryan, Noah
and Gavin. The entire family resides in Vineland, NJ.
CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT SAMUEL J. SHAW SR.
Chief Master Sergeant Samuel J. Shaw Sr. is the Air Force Reserve
Command Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Directorate
MAJCOM Functional Manager and Chief Enlisted Manager, Robins Air
Force Base, Georgia. He manages the health of enlisted ISR and Scientific
career fields, guides force development, training and utilization of Airmen
in those fields, and is the Command Language Program Manager
CMSgt Shaw was born in Nampa, Idaho in 1968, and graduated from a
home school course of studies in Eastern Oregon. He reported to Lackland
Air Force Base, Texas for basic military training on January 30, 1989
before beginning his first active duty assignment in Berlin, Germany. In
1998, he transferred into the Air Force Reserve. As a reservist, CMSgt
Shaw has directly supported National Security Agency/Central Security
Service, US Space Command, US Northern Command and US Strategic
Command. In 2010-2011, he served as Superintendent, United States
Forces – Iraq, Joint Intelligence Directorate, Document and Media Exploitation, Camp Slayer,
Iraq. During 2013 he served full-time as the 544th Intelligence, Surveillance and
Reconnaissance Group Superintendent while his active duty counterpart was deployed. His
previous assignment was as Reserve Senior Enlisted Leader and Individual Mobilization
Augmentee to the Senior Enlisted Leader, USSTRATCOM/J2.

United States Navy
Command Master Chief Tocorzic is a native of
Warren, Ohio and a 1989 graduate of Lincoln High
School in Shinnston, West Virginia. He entered
the Navy through the Delayed Entry Program and
arrived for basic training at Recruit Training
Command, Great Lakes, IL in December 1989.
Following Recruit Training, Naval Aircrew Candidate School and
Aviation Structural Mechanic (AMS) “A” School, He reported to VP-30
in Jacksonville, FL. During this tour he was designated as a Naval
Aircrewman (NAC) and completed the Flight Engineer Apprentice
Program. He then transferred and qualified as a P-3 Flight Engineer
with the “Fighting Tigers” of VP-8, Brunswick, ME. His follow-on
tours as an Instructor Flight Engineer included: VP-5 and VP-30 in
Jacksonville, FL where he served as an FRS Instructor and Fleet
NATOPS Evaluator and VP-47, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. After deploying in
support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM he
transferred to Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL. While
assigned to the “Quarterdeck of the Navy”, he served as a Recruit
Division Commander (RDC), Ship’s (Barracks) LCPO and Recruit Division
Commander “C” School LCPO. He was selected into the Command Master
Chief Program in 2009 and served as the final Command Master Chief
onboard USS JOHN L. HALL (FFG 32), which decommissioned in March
2012.
Additional Command Master Chief tours include: Strike Fighter
Squadron 213 (VFA-213), Carrier Air Wing ONE (CVW 1) and USS
THEORDORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71). Following the first ever three carrier
hull/crew swap, Command Master Chief Tocorzic assumed the duties as
CMC of USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) in December 2015 where he
currently serves.
He is a graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy and Command
Leadership School, Newport Rhode Island. His personal awards include
the Meritorious Service Medal, Air/Strike Medal (two awards), Navy
and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine
Corps Achievement Medal (five awards) and various other unit awards.
Master Chief Tocorzic is authorized to wear the Enlisted Aviation
Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Naval
Aircrewman and Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare Specialist
breast insignias; he is also a designated Master Training Specialist.
Master Chief Tocorzic is married to the former Abigale Weeks of
Plymouth, Indiana and resides in Virginia Beach with their two
beautiful daughters.
Master Chief Petty Officer Brett VerHulst
Command Master Chief, 17th Coast Guard District
Master Chief Brett VerHulst assumed the duties as Command Master
Chief, District 17 in June 2015. His primary responsibility is to advise
Rear Admiral Dan Abel, the Commander of the Seventeenth Coast
Guard District, on issues and initiatives pertaining to all Coast Guard
members and their families.
The Seventeenth District encompasses over 3.8 million square miles
and more than 44,000 miles of shoreline and serves and safeguards the
public, protects the environment and its resources, and defends the
Nation’s interests in the Alaskan maritime region. Most recently Master
Chief VerHulst served as Command Master Chief for Coast Guard
Sector Columbia River, headquartered in Warrenton, OR.
Master Chief VerHulst has served in afloat assignments aboard Coast
Guard Cutter (CGC) BITTERSWEET in Woods Hole, Massachusetts,
and as a Quartermaster aboard CGC WOODRUSH in Sitka, AK and
CGC SPENCER in Boston, MA.
Master Chief VerHulst has also served at various shore assignments
including watch supervisor at Vessel Traffic Service Berwick Bay located in Morgan City, Louisiana; as a Search and
Rescue Controller at Group Humboldt Bay in Eureka, CA and as the Maritime Domain Awareness/Collaboration Tools
Subject Matter Expert at the Atlantic Area C4IT Branch in Portsmouth, VA.
Master Chief VerHulst is a proud graduate of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Academy (Class 120) and the Coast
Guard Senior Enlisted Leadership Course in addition to the Air Force Senior NCO Academy (Class 08C). He also has a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Sciences from Western International University.
Master Chief VerHulst’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Coast Guard Commendation
Medal, five Coast Guard Achievement Medals (with Operational Distinguishing device) and the Commandant’s Letter
of Commendation (with Operational Distinguishing device).
CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT MICHELE L. VOGEL
Chief Master Sergeant Michele L. Vogel is the eleventh Maryland
Air National Guard State Command Chief. She serves as the
personal advisor and key advocate to The Adjutant General and
the Assistant Adjutant General for Air for the state of Maryland on
enlisted issues concerning training, readiness, morale welfare,
proper utilization and the professional development of the Maryland
Air National Guard’s enlisted force consisting of over 1400 Airmen.
Chief Master Sergeant Vogel enlisted in the Air National Guard and
reported for Air Force Basic Military Training in September 1989.
Her background includes numerous leadership roles at flight,
squadron, group and wing levels serving in Financial Management,
Counter Drug Operations, Airfield Management, Personnel,
Commander Support Staff, and as a Group and Wing First
Sergeant. Chief Vogel previously served as the Financial
Management Career Field Functional Manager for the Air National
Guard. In this role she supported over 1,100 financial management and financial services professionals in
more than 88 flying wings and 200 geographically separated units throughout the United States, the District of
Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands. Her actions provided financial support to more than
105,400 Guard members serving nationwide and enabled strategic planning and leadership for all aspects of
financial management in support of the Air National Guard’s State and Federal mission. Chief Vogel was hand
selected by the Command Chief of the Air National Guard to facilitate the Air National Guard’s Command
Chiefs’ Orientation Course and Chiefs’ Executive Course. Before assuming her current position, Chief Vogel
served as the 175th Wing Command Chief, where she served as the principal advisor to the Wing commander
and his senior staff. Chief Vogel accepted her current position at the Maryland Joint Force Headquarters in
March 2016.

Biography
CSM Weedon, a native of Bryan, TX, graduated from Bryan High School in
1986 and joined the United States Army in January of 1988. He married his
wife, Shelli, in 1988 and they have 4 children: Stefani, Kyndal, Alan, and
Arin; 3 grandsons Jayden, Jaryn, and Chandler; and 2 sons’ in law, Chris
Cortez and Nathan Green. He attended Basic Combat Training and the Army’s Nuclear, Biological, and
Chemical Advanced Individual Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama.
During 26 years of service, CSM Weedon has held numerous leadership positions to include Fire Team
Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Operations Sergeant, First Sergeant, Sergeant Major, and
Command Sergeant Major.
His previous command sergeant major assignments include: Commandant 136th Regiment (RTI),
Command Sergeant Major Texas Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion, and
Command Sergeant Major 1st Battalion 141st Infantry Regiment.
Command Sergeant Major Weedon’s other assignments include: 95th Chemical Company, Giessen,
Federal Republic of Germany; 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Fort Bragg, N.C.; HQ 49th
Armor Division, Camp Mabry, Austin, TX; and 4-112th Armor Battalion, Bryan, TX.
CSM Weedon was deployed to Iraq during Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1990-1991, and again to Iraq in
2009-2010 during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Command Sergeant Major Weedon is a graduate of all the Noncommissioned Officer’s Education System
Courses including the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 34), Air Assault School,
Airborne School, Army National Guard Basic Recruiting Course, M1A1 Armor Crewman Course, Senior
Management Course, and the Lean Six Sigma Process Improvement Course. He holds an Associate
Degree in Applied Science from Central Texas College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business
Administration from Franklin University, and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Marriage and
Family Therapy from Amridge University.
CSM Weedon has been awarded numerous awards and decorations including the Bronze Star,
Meritorious Service Medal (4th award), Army Commendation Medal (4th award), Army Achievement
Medal (6th award), Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service
Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Texas Faithful Service Medal, Texas Combat Service
Ribbon, Texas Outstanding Service Medal, the German Armed Proficiency Badge, and the Master
Recruiter Badge.
CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT JERRY L. WILLIAMS, JR.
Chief Master Sergeant Jerry L. Williams, Jr. is the Command
Chief Master Sergeant of the 15th Wing, Joint Base Pearl
Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. He serves as the principal adviser
to the wing commander on enlisted issues. His
responsibilities include advising the commander on all
matters affecting the health, morale, and welfare of assigned
enlisted
personnel.
The
wing
supports
C-17A,
C-37A, C-40B, F-22A, and KC-135R operations, while also
providing command functions to operate the airfield at Joint
Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The wing, in partnership with
the Hawaii Air National Guard and US Navy, employs Total
Force combat and peacetime joint base support to
operations across Hawaii and throughout the Pacific Theater.
Chief Master Sergeant Williams was born in Indianapolis,
Indiana and graduated from North Central High School in
June 1989. He enlisted into the Air Force on 25 May 1990
as a Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
(HVAC/R) Apprentice.
Throughout his career, Chief
Williams has served in multiple capacities within the Civil
Engineer functional community, ranging from junior HVAC/R
apprentice to MAJCOM Functional Manager serving on Air
Force Global Strike Command’s Logistics,
Installations and Mission Support A4/7 staff. His assignments include bases in Indiana, Florida, Texas,
Louisiana, Guam, Korea, Qatar and Italy. Additionally, Chief Williams has deployed six times supporting
diverse operations throughout Southwest Asia.

CSM Bill Woods began his military career in October 1986. He
attended basic training and advanced individual training at Fort
Mc McClellan, Alabama where he graduated from the military
police school. His first duty assignment was the 21st Military
Police Company (Airborne), Fort Bragg North Carolina. During
his three year tour at Fort Bragg, he served as a Military Police
fire team member, team leader and Military Police Investigator
and was deployed to Panama and Honduras. When his
enlistment was complete in 1989, he joined the Army Reserve
and was assigned to the 805th Military Police Company
(Combat Support). On September 20, 1990, he was mobilized
for Operation Desert Shield/Storm with the 805th Military Police Company where he served in
the liberation of Kuwait and the invasion of Southern Iraq as a fire team leader, assistant squad
leader and platoon operations sergeant.
In November 1992, CSM Woods moved to Colorado with his family, joining the 220th
Military Police Company, Colorado Army National Guard, where he served as a Fire Team
Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant and Detachment 1SG. In April, 1999, he joined the
U.S. Air Force Reserve’s 310th Security Forces Squadron at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado.
On October 1st 2001, he was mobilized and assigned to the 10th Security Forces Squadron,
United States Air Force Academy, Colorado. While assigned to the 10th Security Forces, he was
the Chief of training and operations for the Special Weapons and Tactics Team where he was
detailed as Personal Security for the Secretary of the Air Force, Chief of Staff U.S. Air Force and
numerous general officers and their families. In January 2003, he was demobilized and rejoined
the Colorado Army National Guard, assigned to Centennial Training Site where he served as
NCOIC of range operation and later as Operations Sergeant for the Centennial Training Site. In
December 2003, he was selected as the 1SG for Headquarters Detachment, 168th Regiment. In
November 2007 CSM Woods was transferred to C company 1-157th Infantry Grand Junction
CO. In March 2008, he was promoted to Sergeant Major and served as Operations Sergeant for
the 193rd MP BN, preparing the unit for Civil Disturbance Operational Support for the
Democratic National Convention held in Denver in August 2008. During the DNC Support
Mission, he served as the Acting CSM for Task Force 193. In December 2008, he was selected
as Command Sergeant Major for the 193 MP BN. Following the mobilization and deployment
of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 193 MP BN in January 2010, CSM Woods
served as the CSM of Task Force Rocky Mountain, a multi-component/multi-service task force
of 1,000 Army and Navy personnel conducting detention operations at the Detention Facility in
Parwan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Task Force Rocky Mountain provided
custody, control and care of over 1,500 detained persons in support of the 16th Military Police
Brigade, 46th Military Police Command and Combined Joint Interagency Task Force 435. In
December 2010, CSM Woods was selected as the Command Sergeant Major of 89th Troop
Command. In June 2015 CSM Woods was selected as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for
the Colorado National Guard where he is currently serving.
CSM Woods has completed the U.S. Army Airborne School, the U.S. Air Force Basic Freefall
Parachuting Course, the U.S. Air Force Rappel Master Course, Combat lifesaver course and U.S.
Army Combatives Instructor Level 1. He is a graduate of PLDC, BNCOC (Honor Graduate),
ANCOC, 1SG Course, Battle Staff NCO Course, U.S. Air Force Senior NCO Academy, Total
Army Instructor Training Course, Small Group Instructor Course and is a graduate of the United
States Army Sergeant’s Major Academy class 32.
His decorations include: The Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army
Commendation Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with 1

departments of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Breckenridge, Colorado and currently the Aurora,
Colorado Police Department where he recently celebrated his 21st year of employment. CSM
Woods has three times been awarded the Aurora Police Departments Distinguished Service
Cross for valor, several commendations and campaign awards. CSM Woods is currently
assigned to the Patrol Division and has been a member of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team
for 19 years.
